Hi everyone! Sorry I went quiet the last week. Father in law had a moderate medical emergency. He's fine and everything is good now, but it I spent most of my free time that week as an extra pair of hands/gofer to take some of the pressure off the family.
Back now!

GM, I didn't realize the ooze could make an AoO while engulfing somebody. If possible, Liamae would have taken a 5 foot step instead of moving fully and provoking.

I didn't see anything under Engulf that says a creature can't still attack or make AoOs. The only thing I can thing of is that Pinned is a more severe version of Grappled, but only the engulfed creature is pinned, not the engulfing creature. I know you run a lot of games, so correct me if I'm wrong.
A 5 ft step I think would still have had you in its 10ft reach, and so the telekentic projectile would have provoked the AoO, unless you can cast that defensively.

Hi y'all. I've a bone to pick with ABP. It's something that's been bugging me for a while, and I'm not sure if we've discussed it here before or not, but I'm bringing it up now.
I really like ABP, except for one line: Items that only grant bonuses to AC, saving throws, and ability scores don't exist in this variant...
This one line actually gives me a headache as a GM, for many reasons. I think an elegant solution is this:
These items do exist, but the bonuses offered by the item don't stack with the bonuses from ABP.
So, for example, at 3rd level you all have Resistance +1 through ABP. If you were to find a Cloak of Resistance +1, it'd basically be redundant and useless. But, if you were to find a Cloak of Resistance +2, the higher bonus would be beneficial. That is, until you reach lvl 8 and gain Resistance +2 through ABP. Then, your magical cloak would become useless to you as an adventurer. You could sell it then and get something cool like a Cloak of Elvenkind. The same would be true for enhancement bonuses to weapons and armor.
I hope that makes sense, and I hope it eases my pain.

I'm not going to complain if you want to give us goodies on top of goodness. Not a big ABP fan myself, so.
It's funny, all this treasure and all I can think of that Moira really wants is a few scrolls of Decompose Corpse and a few scrolls of Restore Corpse. Just because they would have been darn handy...
...I'll think of other things.

I'm sure the good folks at the House of Abadar will be willing to help.
I'm also sure at least ONE item in that pile is desirable to someone, so speak up!
Unless the vote swings the other way, it looks like we'll be returning back to Belhaim with all haste. I'll get us moving in that direction shortly.

A spell-storing item is like a pearl of power that can make anyone into a mini-magus. So great. I think they are especially fun to hand to martials because it gives them a tactical option they usually lack (spellcasting).
If I didn't already have one, I'd want that dagger badly. As it is, Moira's offer to charge it (when convenient) still stands, but if nobody wants it...

How are y'all feeling about the current party situation? We've lost Iagon and Attai has been unresponsive. Returning to Belhaim now is a good opportunity to recruit a new PC, or we can continue merrily along with a party of four. Totally up to y'all.

Heya! Sorry! Was sidetracked for a little while.
I think our group is pretty solid, but I'm of the opinion that five is the optimal group size. I think we're probably weakest on healing and defensive buffs? Although with Iagon leaving we're loosing a big hitter.
I don't really know anyone else on the boards too well. I know some great players through other channels, but I don't know how interested they'd be in a play by post.
If no one else feels they need it, Fenchurch could take that Adaptive Longbow and probably never have to upgrade for the rest of her career since it will scale as her Strength goes up.
If we're doing that adjusted version of ABP, Fench could definitely use that Amulet of Natural Armor.
The armor is nice, but unless we know we're specifically going up against giants I'm probably better off with my mundane banded mail for now.

You could check with Terapin. I have a few other players that I've really enjoyed gaming with that I could dig up, too. There was also one person who cold-called me to join the other game who never got in, but it worked out when you did, so.
Also totally fine running x4, especially as you're developing the game. I don't mind investing in a few cleric-replacing items and playing smart.

Fench, the bow and amulet are yours.
Moira gets the dagger. Always good to have a backup.
Túrante, as far as I understand, you can copy spells out of this book into your own at the cost of time and money. Or you can prepare your spells using this spellbook, and get the boon of doing so. I guess you could copy spells from your spellbook into this one as well.
I'll reach out to Terapin, or Moira and Fench if you dont mind I can make a post in your games to see if theres any interest.
I had a work retreat all weekend so I havent had a chance to post but I'll get to it.

Oh, I completely forgot about the quivers and arrows. I'll take one of the Efficient Quivers too, and half of the Giant Bane arrows if no one objects. I figure the other quiver and five arrows can go to someone else with a bow.
I don't plan to ever be much of an archer, but can't hurt to max out my secondary weapon for the foreseeable future.

Liamae or Túrante, do you want the Cunning Longbow?
Also, the group has battled a cave troll, and the Hangtooth kobolds were sent here to find a weapon to help in their fight with a tribe of ogres, so, we may not be playing Giantslayer, but there are giants about.

TBH I’m kinda surprised. I was thrilled to get one, stressed to get more. I hate having to choose, when I have good reason to pick any of the applicants.
My criteria are:
A) someone who will gel well with the table, which is difficult to do through the forums, but at least I can review their play styles, history on the forums.
B) a PC who fits the campaign and has the potential for interesting group dynamics.
C) a PC that fits the need of the party. I’m nudging peeps towards Cleric, but I’m getting a few very compelling alternative submissions.
D) a character idea I can easily write into the campaign. Again, nudging peeps towards Cleric to this end.
Again, having to choose one and reject all the others is tough.

If there's a tie by those criteria, go by first contacted/to contact and all will understand.
I'd hate to ask someone to join the party just to be the bandaid, and we can probably afford a wand of Lesser Restoration for condition clearing, which seems to be our need at the moment.
But it would be nice. Doesn't have to be a cleric, either:
Restoration, Lesser
School conjuration (healing); Level alchemist 2, cleric/oracle 2, druid 2, inquisitor 2, paladin 1, shaman 2; Mystery life 2

The weirdest/coolest recruitment I was ever part of was competitive. To have a chance, you had to show up and roleplay in the recruitment. That was Moira's first appearance. Everyone was RPing their hearts out to get into the game, and it was the best month of DnD I've ever had. The campaign itself didn't last long, but I kinda want to steal the idea for my next PbP as GM.

One of my first recruitments was like that. The GM appreciated everyone’s role play so much they ended up using everyone and running three simultaneous tables. Of course, that burnt out pretty quick.
For this recruitment I had everyone interview with the Marquis. I thought it was a good means of feeling out the characters. It wasn’t an easy pick, and at the end, I felt like I was making a solid choice. Of course, I lost one player almost immediately. Thankfully Attai was there to step in. Hope they’re doing well.
I’ll take this moment to express my appreciation for all y’all who’ve shown up consistently and enthusiastically, despite the bad rolls and whatever life has to offer. Special kudos to Liamae, who’s been here since day one.
If we were a group playing at the table, I’d buy y’all a pizza.

Well, here’s a benevolent GM gift for y’all. While I work on selecting a new player, go ahead and get ready to level up. Technically, you’ll level up after delivery of Arnholde is made and the treaty is signed and you get some well earned rest. But, go ahead and figure out what Level 4 looks like so we’re ready to go.
Congrats!

Túrante, I sent you a PM a few weeks ago about using the Fractional Base Bonus rules from Unchained. As a multiclasser, it should help to keep your BAB in line. Won’t help with the dice, but should give you a slightly better edge.

Yeah, at level 3 it makes zero difference, because the wizard's two-level "fractional" BAB is +1 and the ranger's one level BAB is +1, which means that nothing changed. :)
Basically fractional accounting only matters if you have multiple classes with fractional BAB, which is not the case here.
