Background:
Selja was born the daughter of an orc warchief father and a slave mother, growing up in what Taldans call the Fogpeak Mountains and what her people called home. Life in the mountains was harsh. Survival was based on strength, and in this respect, Selja could not compare to the full-blooded orcs. But with guidance from her loving Mama, Selja made up for her weaknesses using guile and charm. It was Mama who taught Selja to appreciate the softer things in life and to retain her humanity. It was always a precarious existence, but Mama's favor in the eyes of the warchief gave Selja a place in the tribe.

Yet human youth and beauty are fleeting, and as Mama aged, her influence with the warchief waned. Little did Selja expect that her father's affections toward her would take a dark turn. As she sensed the warchief's growing interest, Selja knew that she had to escape. One fateful night, she kissed her sleeping Mama goodbye, grabbed a spear, and slipped away. And so she began a life in the hinterlands, living between worlds and subsisting on hunting, foraging, and the occasional fur pelt traded with those who would tolerate a wild, scraggly half-orc. Life was lonely. To fight the despair, she would sing songs of lamentations that Mama had taught her.

One day, Selja was hunting a group of deer when she overlooked a hidden spiked pit trap. Falling within, Selja found herself trapped, her body broken and her thigh pierced. To her great fortune, though, Selja soon found help. The man, Nilos, went down into the pit, and with just a touch, the wound on Selja's thigh miraculously closed!

The remainder of Selja's healing would need more time in the care of Nilos, who Selja would learn was a follower of Shelyn, the Eternal Rose. Once Selja was better, she insisted on repaying her debt to Nilos by serving as a bodyguard. It was a selfish offer, as Selja desperately wanted the company. Yet Nilos too, wanted this--in truth, Nilos had been following Selja in secret after hearing the half-orc's beautiful voice, which was why he was so close by to help. Surely, the Eternal Rose herself was at work in their encounter.

With Nilos's guidance, Selja awoke to a new reality--one filled with beauty, grace, and hope instead of struggle, violence, and cruelty. Through worship in the ways of Shelyn, Selja slowly learned to trust others and, more importantly, to trust herself and believe in her own self-worth. Having been set on a new path, Selja now feels her goddess calling her to take flight and find her own path of redemption in the world.

Appearance and Personality:
Selja is tall and, by human standards, rather muscular for a woman. She bears patterned ink tattoos on her face, arms, and legs, but the most prominent feature is the holy symbol of Shelyn tattooed on her chest--a bright, rainbow-colored songbird. She speaks with ordinary alto tones, but those fortunate enough to hear her sing experience a resonant, wide-ranging and poignant voice.

Selja is organized, insightful, and a true friend to those she trusts. As she's matured, Selja has learned how to look within to recognize her value and worth, but the habits of old have not gone away--she still yearns for the acceptance of others that was lacking in her prior life. She has a soft spot for things that she views as unconventionally beautiful.

The art piece need be neither large nor complex, but heartfelt and made to the best of your ability. Gift the piece of art to a stranger and pay her a sincere compliment as you do so. If there are no suitable individuals around to receive the gift, leave it in an obvious place with a note praising Shelyn and asking whoever finds it to take it with your warmest wishes.
