Karas and Ellena led the charge into the garrison. Ellena blocked the doorway before any of the enemies could mobilize to get through. Two lightly armored tieflings swung short swords at Ellena but the blows were no threat to her in her plate armor and shield.

Karas' eyes lit up again as he tried to shoulder check the tiefling out of his way into the next room.

I'd like to attempt a Bull Rush on the one in the doorway. Will roll the attempt and if it is possible

When Ellena heard Karas approaching, she let him pass and one tielfing slammed into the other. The rogue tried to stab him as he got close, but the blade was turned aside by his armor. Karas drove the lightweight back ten feet. His surprised partner at the door was so taken aback by the move, he lost his grip on his sword and failed to take advantage of the opening available as Karas drove past him into the room.

If Karas does not want to move the extra 5 feet, he can stop just inside the door.

Another rogue put down his playing cards, grabbed his short sword, and nimbly skirted around Karas to come at him while his partner provided flanking assistance. But he too could not stab Karas. They were yelling but there was no one in the room across from the foyer to respond.

Anarya entered the garrison and gave a divine command to a rogue, who appeared like he was going to drop his weapon in response.

Then Raine entered and sent two arrows into the fray. The first expertly avoided Ellena and another enemy to puncture the throat of a rogue still just reacting to the attack. 12 damage, unconscious, bleeding. Her second arrow missed any targets.

Another tiefling rogue joined the fight, attacking Karas, but without success.

Avelina followed the others in, a little bewildered at the directness of their approach. She had expected more cloaked-figures-dropping-on-unsuspecting-villains-before-dragging-them-off- into-the-shadows from this whole sneaking mission thing. She certainly couldn't complain; she couldn't exactly call her attacks properly otherwise.

Avelina enters the foyer and uttered a dreadful command that to one rogue sounded like his head was hit with shards of glass, leaving him bleeding from the ears and fingertips. 5 damage to rogue 2, dazed.

The last rogue to rise to the fight instead of attacking reached down and touched his fallen comrade. This tiefling looked a bit different than the others, more sickly, with grey skin and no hair. After touching the falling one, he stood, appearing a little stronger, while the one on the ground spasmed and lay still, not even bleeding.

Karas, Raine, Tauni:
The tiefling used death knell on his comrade, which killed rogue 6, gave rogue 1 some extra hit points and +2 strength.

Tauni continued to follow Ellena as she charged into the building.

Seeing the two warriors ripping through their foes, she decided to hold back on the power of the wand she held. Instead, she shot a simple spell of cold at one of the rogues.

My interpretation of the Moment of Greatness effect is that it gives you a one time doubling of an existing morale bonus. So if you are using it on your bless bonus, currently +2, then you can double the bonus to +4 on one to hit roll. It can't be transferred to a damage roll. So the first attack does 7 instead of 11. Consider the MOG bonus unspent.

On the Table:

I think Karas might be talking about using it for his damage not via bless, but because the bonus conveyed by his bloodrage is a morale bonus. Karas can correct or clarify, though.

Raine has it correct. I have not modified my above rolls for MoG at all though. Karas' class do 1d6+5+4 when power attacking base. Bloodrage is a morale bonus and I thought was clarified to work to double my morale to strength for the damage of 1 attack? Avelina was the clarification source though. Regardless the above attack is at least 11 damage.

Yeah, I had previously suggested Karas use a tactic I use on my Skald in PFS to double the morale bonus to strength from bloodrage (not bless) on the damage roll.

Seeing that no one had received any major wounds, Anarya stepped into the room, moving to the left of the door. This left her open to a counterattack from the closest tiefling, but Anarya took the risk and swung her weapon at him, surging with strength from Avelina's boost to her wand's magic.

(That brought up a good question. Does an evil-aligned tiefling count as an "evil outsider?" They are "evil" and they are "outsiders" but they don't have the evil subtype. I'd imagine the exact same answer would apply to an evil ifrit, or an evil aasimar. Do they take damage from holy water? The rules are unclear and I've found no consensus online.)

(I don't think so because they're native outsiders, but also as you say they don't have the 'evil' subtype; evil's a choice they get to make, instead, but it doesn't qualify them for mechanical things aimed at EOs. Otherwise I'd be figuring in my F.E. bonuses. ;) )

Raine's second arrow will also hit provided she chooses another target, as the rogue she hit first will fall prone, adding a -4 penalty to hit him. Which gets the 2nd arrow, Rogue 1 or 4?

I did not realize that the bloodrager Str and Con bonuses were morale bonuses, so I that the bless was the only morale bonus affecting Karas. I was also confused because the post said the MOG would be used to boost damage, but nothing was actually added in the damage roll beyond the normal strength bonus and Power Attack bonus. If he did 11 points of damage without the moment of greatness bonus, then he puts the rogue down and the details about how the MOG affects the situation are mainly to determine how negative the rogue will be. I don't think it will be an important as you guys are cutting through these rogues like a lawnmower through daisies. If this is something that's going to get used a lot, we should work out exactly how Karas can use it with his bloodrage ability bonuses.

The rogue near the back first was hit by Raine's second arrow and then by two missiles from Avelina's wand. His feeling of superiority over his fellows evaporated as he fell backwards and moved no more. Total of 13 damage, rogue 1 is prone, unconscious, dying.

I would just do the standard procedure of placing all the modifiers separated by commas in the dice roll and add the modifiers to the roll in the same order. It is the easiest way for me to review what is being applied.

Ellena noticed the rogue next to her still on his feet. She used Radiance to attempt to remove him, so the group could concentrate on more serious threats deeper in the garrison.

With the battle well in hand, Tauni moved across the room. She stood in the opposite doorway, keeping watch in case the noise drew more foes.

A bracket showed where a longsword once hung over a stylized gold sunburst affixed to the south wall. Lines of strange runes were carved into the walls on both sides of the sunburst. Dried blood and excrement had been smeared across the sunburst and a short bench for kneeling that sat on the floor.

As the battle ended, the heroes finally got a good look at this room.

The faces of the portraits that hang on the walls of this room had been slashed. Two marble planters lay smashed in pieces on the ground, and mud streaked across the white stone floor. The rogues had been playing cards around a large table, apparently using severed body parts as chips.

Raine moved to the door to scan for anyone else in the room even as Karas dropped the last one. She snapped her head to left and right but the threat was neutralized.

Her eyes flickered over the pointless desecration of the portraits, the pointless destruction of the planters, and the gruesome display on the table.

"Normally I'd say we try and wake one to see what else is ahead, but interrogations take time and you gotta stop 'em shouting to bring more," she said bluntly. "My advice is we keep moving, fast clip. Anyone hurt?"

She turned the other way, sliding past Tauni to the next room (barring anything from the GM's rolled checks for her that might show it being dangerous, of course!). Arrow on the string still, she listened intently for any sounds of footsteps above them, or ahead.

(As I understand it I'm letting you roll her active perceptions, Clebsch, but let me know if I have it wrong.)

Karas leaned heavy on a wall for 30 seconds before nodding to Raine.

Scowling at the gruesome game on the table, he kicked one of the corpses. "Bastards like them are the reason I have a hard time in the streets."

He picked up his sword and followed Raine to the next front. He couldn't look Anarya in the eye as he passed by.


When Raine moved up into the next room, Tauni slipped back. She cast a quick spell across the room, looking for any innocuous item that they may need as they advanced. Then she quickly went from rogue to rogue, quickly checking with a pat for bulges in their clothing or gear that could be keys. If anyone else is standing around the fallen, she'll tell them "If any of them have keys, it could help us move along more quickly and maybe surprise some of them."

Avelina walked over to the rogues and pulled out her characteristically smug smile from her repetoire.

"And that's why you don't indulge in gambling on the job!"

At Tauni's suggestion, she began rumaging through the rogues' gear using Long Arm of Justice Mage Hand.

Ellena stood by, ready for anyone who might try to ambush the group while they were still exploring the spoils of the recent battle. "They know we are coming, so there's no reason to rush. Maybe there's something here to use deeper in the place..."

Anarya breathed a sigh of relief as the last tiefling fell, and looked around the room. She shuddered as the gruesome tokens on the table, and took note of the mindless vandalism of the portraits. I hope someday this fortress is in righteous hands once more, she thought. It boiled her blood that the filth who consorted with demons and murdered their own allies held a fortress once consecrated to the goddess of valor.

She tried to meet Karas's gaze to offer him a smile as the group moved on, but he kept his eyes downcast. She was surprised for a moment, but realized what was bothering him. The people of Kenabres must have never let him forget what they thought of him, she thought. She set her jaw and pushed her way right beside the muscular tiefling and grabbed his clawed hand with her own. She waited until he met her gaze and smiled. "I'm glad you're with us, Karas."

The rogues were armored in studded leather and had short swords, daggers, and light crossbows for weapons. Nothing masterwork or magical. No keys, either.

Looking into the room to the east of the foyer, the room was perhaps once a shrine, allowing crusaders a place to kneel and pray before proceeding further into the garrison.

Two closed doors lead to other rooms.

Upon entering the defiled shrine, Karas, Tauni, Ellena, and Raine notice faint conversation coming through the walls from somewhere nearby. Once alerted, even Avelina can hear it and a few moments shifting about the room reveals it is apparently coming from the room to the east. The conversation is in a language some do not understand. The voices are high pitched but it might be a kind of falsetto, or else from relatively small creatures.

Celestial:
Voice 1: "Why won't my spells work?!"
Voice 2: "I keep telling you, that handsome demon lord Deskari killed your god!"
Voice 1: "Impossible! Gods can't die!"
Voice 2: "How do you know?"
Voice 1: "Because I know!"
Voice 2: "Do not!"
Voice 1: "Do too!"
Soft slapping sounds.
Etc. It goes on like this.

Irabeth looked into the garrison from outside. She did not say anything, just observed that everyone was alive.

Once people move out of the foyer, she signals and her squad of mongrelfolk quietly move into the building and take up positions in the meeting room, bows ready to provide back-up fire or cover.

When Anarya grabbed his hand Karas was dumbfounded for a moment, the act breaking into his bubble of self hatred. He stared at the angel's hand clenching his bloody claw, her perfect radiant skin marred by the enemy's blood but as he slowly met her gaze he saw the sheer resolve and care in her eyes.

After she spoke he stayed motionless a bit longer before a small smile broke and he embraced her. He held this hug for a few moments before drawing back so she could see his lips. "Thank you, that means the world to me."


Disgusted by the desecration, Tauni cast a simple spell, using its limited power to clear away some of the blood and excrement smeared there. Knowing they were limited on time, she only did this for a few moments while the others regrouped.

When she heard the voices and they were able to narrow down where they seemed to be coming from, she listened near the door.

She turned to the others and says quietly "They're speaking celestial, maybe prisoners?"

Ellena silently took her nonmagical long sword and placed it in the empty spot on the altar, where the other one once hung. "We will clean this right on our way out of here.". She gave Tauni an approving nod and smile after her magic quickly cleaned a good bit of the grime away.

"Let's hit them quickly, before they know we are ready for them!"
