Avelina of House Galfrey
|
Avelina steps over to the bottom of the staircase, her glowing sword held high. She pulls it back like an arrow in her all-too-familiar casting motion, pointing directly towards the goblin at the top of the stairs.

Avelina's arrows of 'divine' magic penetrated the rogue's armor, but he was not down yet. 6 to rogue 7.
Two scythe wielding cultists of Deskari stepped up to threaten Karas but they were unable to penetrate his armor.
A tiefling rogue with a crossbow stepped up next to the goblin and fired at Raine, but the banister deflected the bolt.
The goblin at the top of the stairs fired off another crossbow bolt but it hit the wall next to Raine and missed. The goblin ran back away from the top of the stairs, leaving an open spot to the first brave crusader to fill.
Just south of Karas, a rogue who was affected by some of the itching powder thrown by a comrade stepped back to pour water from his canteen on the affected areas to wash it off. This left an open space for Karas to move into, although he'll be surrounded.
Karas is up, followed by Anarya. I'll allow them to coordinate so if he wants to Karas can push off the wall and once he's no longer over the stairwell, Anarya can dismiss the levitation effect and Karas can consider it all part of a move action. It bends the rules a touch, but makes for a great image. He can go for the spot just south of his current position or can try to soar over the line and land behind, but he'll be vulnerable to AOOs if he does that.
| Karas Argentus |
oh I'm totally crashing their party lol. I love the imagery. Pardon this post for errors I'm on my phone in an airport lol.
Karas grinned as the assembled cultists threw weapons in a panic. He kicked off the wall and landed in position left vacant by the shuffling group.
As he landed, the silver dragonblood roared at all comers as his countenance shifted and the bloodrage took over. He lashed out with shining claws at the nearest enemy.

One of the rogues shifted from the banister to attack Karas, but he missed.
A rogue who had been hiding behind the southwest corner of the landing stepped out with a whip and tried to trip Karas. He might have succeeded but one of his allies got in the way.
The pillar of fog dissipated as Anarya dismissed the levitation and Karas slipped over the banister into the upper landing.
Those below heard a tiefling voice cry out in pain, but it was not Karas' voice.
Round 3 actions for the rest of the PCs come next, starting with Raine, followed by Tauni, Ellena, and Avelina. Anyone who wants Anarya to levitate him/her (assuming she is willing to do so) should know that it will take two rounds to get up: 1 to wait for Anarya's next turn to arrive, and another while the person is lifted at a rate of 20 feet per turn. Those opting to climb the stairs either move at half speed through the top two squares of the stairs where the caltrops are or if moving at full speed, roll a d20 for each square moved through: a 12 or more and the PC has stepped on a caltrop, takes 1 damage, and stops, with limits on further movement until the wound is treated or healed (see entry for caltrops).
| Raine a'Thiel |
"Karas is surrounded up there! I'll try and clear a path!" Raine shouted, loosing two arrows at the figure atop the stairs.

Ingrit's first arrow gets stopped by the man's chain shirt, but the second hits a weak spot and draws blood. 5 to cultist 3.
Tauni, Ellena, and Avelina are up.
Avelina of House Galfrey
|
Avelina will wait until Ellena moves up the stairs onto the landing before acting.
| Tauni "Rabbit" Desba |
Tauni weaved her way up the stairs, nimbly stepping past her friends and carefully crossing the caltrop trapped stairs. Once on the next level she stepped aside, taking in the situation and looking for a way to help Karas.
Double move, reflected on the map. Slowing through the caltrop squares. She may incur AoOs from the two that are now adjacent to her icon, but she is counting on the scale's Sanctuary to protect her.
| Ellena Lovain |
Ellena slowly completed her movement up the stairs, as she picked her way over those blasted caltrops threatening to cut right through her boots. As she crested the stairway, she bellowed a challenge to the demons ahead of her. "I'm coming to Smite you, demons! Iomedae's heroes will take this place in her name!"
Would someone move me up on the map, please? Thanks. I figure it'll take a double movement for me.
Avelina of House Galfrey
|
Avelina tred carefully through the caltrops until she took up position near the top of the stairs. Peeking through the railing, Avelina's eyes popped at the concentrated melee mere inches from her. She threw her arms to the heavens as she called upon her new favorite spell.
"Be Blinded by the Radiant Dawn of the Inheritor!"
Avelina should be able to hit the goblin, 3, 4, and 5 with a single Burst of Radiance
Radiant Dawn of the Inheritor Burst of Radiance: 4d4 ⇒ (4, 3, 2, 1) = 10
Blind/Dazzled duration: 1d4 ⇒ 3

Tauni slipped past the tiefling rogue at the top of the stars, who seemed about to attack her but then let her by as if she were an ally.
Ellena made it to the top of the stairs and prepared her attack with a threat.
Avelina reached near the top of the stairs and directed a magical flash of light into the back ranks of the defenders of the space. The rogues near the SW corner of the landing avoided being blinded, but the cultist west of Karas took in the full light of righteousness and lost his sight. All three felt the burn as their evil intents interacted with the light to cause them to suffer burns. Cultist 4, the one west of Karas, blinded for 3 rounds, Rogues 3 and 4 (rogue 4 is the goblin) dazzled for 3 rounds. All three take 10 points damage.
I'll post the actions of the opponents shortly.

During my editing of the previous post, Rogue 7 made the will save versus the sanctuary spell (nat 20) and got a result of 15 on the attack with his short sword, which would be a hit. This completes the rolls for damage.

Ret-con of Tauni's turn in the previous post. I forgot to check to see if the other rogue who had an AOO against Tauni due to her movement. He made the save and his AOO hit. The rolls were lost when I ran out of time to edit the post.
As Tauni got past the rogue closest to the top of the stairs, the goblin who had retreated to the south side of the hall saw through the magic of the scale to stab at her as she tried to penetrate behind the front line of resistance. The wound was minor, but suddenly Tauni's vision clouded and she collapsed. 3 points damage.

The goblin near Karas retreated slightly, drawing a whip. He tried to use the whip to trip Karas, but failed.
Another cultist of Deskari emerged from a room east of the staircase and started to drag Tauni's body away from the battle.
The cultist who was blinded by Avelina's spell nevertheless swung his scythe at Karas and managed to wound him before retreating five feet. 8 to Karas.
The other cultist stepped into the place vacated by his fellow cultist and attack Karas with his scythe. This blade also cut into Karas. 6 to Karas.
The rogue at the top of the stairs attacked Ellena but only hit her shield and then retreated west five feet.
The goblin archer stepped west five feet and hurled a tanglefoot bag at Ellena but in his enthusiasm threw too high and the bag splatted against the wall above Ellena and stayed there looking like a giant smashed bug.
The rogue south of Karas uttered a dark sounding word and gestured at Karas, attempting to cause Karas to be scared by the strange act, but Karas was not fooled. Attempted dirty trick to cause the shaken condition that failed.
A second cultist came out of the east room and poised, scythe in hand ready to attack whoever stepped into the hall.
Anarya is next, followed by Karas.

Even through his haze of rage, he saw the little wizard fall and the damned cultist begin to drag her off. He shouted to the others as he tried to carve his way out.

Oh boy. How the hell do I rescue Tauni. Taking the stairs cautiously would mean I'd get stuck behind the others, so... Anarya is going to ignore the caltrops and risk stepping on one. *wince* Her AC against them is 12.
If she does step on one, Anarya is going to immediately (as soon as she's passed the second square of caltrops) spend a Hero Point to channel positive energy to heal herself and the others, negating the movement speed penalty. Selecting out up to 5 injured cultists as usual.
As she mounted the first steps, Anarya caught a glimpse of Tauni collapsing after taking a mere minor wound, and saw the wizard's body begin to be dragged out of view. Her heart plunged into fear, and any thought of cautiously avoiding the spiky hazard vanished. She pushed her way past Raine, Avelina, and Ellena, and found herself suddenly at the top of the stairs.
In other news, I finally figured out how I want to fluff Anarya's sound burst spell now.
"UNHAND HER AT ONCE!" she shouted point blank, her voice amplified to utterly deific proportions by her righteous fury. The sound shook the cultists' bodies, split their eardrums, and rattled the very walls of the solid stone fortress. Even Anarya could feel the vibrations in her very bones.

Anarya's feet raced up the stairs, missing all the spikes of the caltrops, perhaps by divine guidance, putting her at the top of the stairs. There she was met by a cultist with his scythe poised to strike. As soon as she was in range, he attacked her. The weaponized version of a farmer's harvesting blade cut deep into her side 8 damage.
She cannily avoided any attacks that the goblin and the cultist would have liked to make while she cast her spell. Her voice boomed with a terrible intensity, warning the cultist to release her friend. The sound was loud but did not have the devastating effect she had hoped for. All, including Tauni suffered minor bruises but it did stun the cultist who was starting to drag the unconscious wizard away from the stairs into a side room. Anarya had hoped Tauni might just be asleep and that the sound and pain of the sonic damage might wake her. Tauni remained still, though breathing.
I'm assuming the targets of the spell were the two cultists (icons with the scythes #1 and #2) and the goblin rogue (#7). Tauni and these enemies took 1 point of damage. Cultist #2 is stunned.
Karas began to fight his way toward Tauni, slicing through the rogue afflicted by itching powder, and attacking the one behind. The second rogue dodged the deadly claws with a cackle of glee.

She should be able to hit all the enemies west of Karas with one ten foot burst

Blind/Dazzle Duration: 1d4 ⇒ 3

Since Avelina is peeking up around a corner and there's the banister there, I'm guessing she has cover relative to Cultist 1 and thus doesn't need to cast defensively. If I'm wrong about that, just let me know and I'll roll it
| Clebsch GM |
I'll post results soon. I need to clarify something. Ellena cannot step and attack because Anarya moved ahead of her. Ellena could move south into Anarya's Square, then East into Tauni's square and attack enemies from there. She'll take AOOs rogues 1, 2, and 7 and cultist 1 (Cultists are the ones with the scythes).

Raine sent two arrows at one of the cultists threatening Tauni and Ellena #1. The first threaded the posts of the banister and around Anarya to hit him. The other ricocheted off a post and missed.
Ellena moved around Anarya to get to a place from which she could defend Tauni. Weapons swung at her from many angles and all either bounced off her armor or missed her entirely, except for the one. A short sword slipped into a joint of her armor and inflicted a nasty wound. The wound burned as if there were poison on the sword, but it did not hinder. Her glowing sword slashed out at the goblin, but his small form made him harder to hit and he was able to dodge away from the attack. Rogue 2 hit her for 9 points. His blade was poisoned, but she saved.
Avelina caused a burst of divine light to flash among the rogues and cultists to the west end of the landing. The blessed light struck down 3 of them and badly wounded the other two, blinding one and dazzling the other. The cultist who was about to drag Tauni away let go of her robes when Anarya's sonic attack stunned him. He held his hands to his ears and rocked back and forth, trying to recover. Check the stunned condition for effects on his AC.
The dazzled cultist at the west end of the landing retreated around the corner and cast a spell out of sight, so no way to know what he cast.
The unfortunate rogue who found himself between Karas and Anarya stabbed at him with his shortsword. He took exceptional advantage of the distractions the other opponents near Karas provided, even though there was no one flanking Karas on the other side of him. He slipped past Karas' guard and armor with a deep wound that introduced a weak poison into Karas, but the tiefling was made of stern enough stuff that the poison didn't even slow him down. 9 points damage from rogue 1. Karas made the fort save vs. poison. This rogue has the gang up feat.

Raine's first arrow missed due to the lack of a clear path, but her second arrow drove into the cultist threatening Ellena to the south, 6 damage.
Ellena attacked the stunned cultist who had started to try to drag Tauni away. Her sword easily cut into the hapless cleric, cutting through an arm which immediately began spurting blood as the cultist collapsed. 16 damage, dying.
Avelina's magical frost hit the goblin in arm, but it did not appear to harm him at all, almost as if he were a tiefling in disguise.
One of the cultists who had retreated into a hall to the southwest returned and spoke in a dreadfully raspy voice, "Flee the wrath of Deskari!"
Raine felt as if a swarm of insects was buzzing in her head, but her resolve held and she did not flee. The effect passed quickly.
The goblin (rogue 7) swore and smirked at his enemies and tumbled along the wall, evading Karas' claws and Ellena's sword and ran to the end of the hall, dropping his sword and readying a light crossbow.
The rogue who was blinded by Avelina struggled along the wall to the relative safety of the hallway just past the cultist who tried to enchant Raine.
The cultist fighting Ellena shifted east and paused in his attack and uttered, "Deskari take you all". A strange symbol on an amulet around his became dark and buzzed like flies around a corpse and a burst of darkness spread over all.
The attack had relatively little energy and only Tauni, Karas, and the rogue next to Karas took any real damage [1 point of damage, all others (Ellena, Anarya, Raine, Avelina, and Rogues 6 and 7) take 1 point nonlethal].

Anarya and Karas are up
| Karas Argentus |
Karas felt the fatigue start to set in, he knew his rage would only holdout so long. However, he knew he couldn't let down his friends and he still have to get his claws on that goblin for daring to stab Anarya. The thought gave him a second wind as he tore at the tiefling in his way. Spend 1 hero point for 6 rage rounds

While waiting for Anarya to post, can Karas clarify which enemy he is attacking? Tiefling 2 is the only enemy Karas threatens in his present position, so I'll go with that unless corrected.
| Clebsch GM |
Still waiting on Anarya. I still don't have my home computer fixed, so I'll wait a bit longer before moving on.

R2: Short sword: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Gonna have to 'bot Anarya.
Anarya, distressed at seeing Karas so badly wounded, touched him and healed some of his wounds. Heals Karas 3. Then she carefully picked her way past Avelina and Raine, avoiding the caltrops, to give her allies room to bring the battle to the enemy.
Karas slashed at the relatively unhurt tielfing and changed his status to badly wounded. 11 to Rogue 2.
The tiefling still had some fight in him, but not enough to hit the raging silver tiefling. After attacking, he stepped away, forcing the invaders to split up if they wanted to attack both threats, such as they were.

Ellena was facing one remaining standing enemy. She took a powerful chop at the thug immediately in front of her. (#1). She felt enhanced in some way, and used those blessings to take a blow with all of her might yet again.

Raine bulled up the stairs past Avelina, grabbed Tauni's limp form by the ankle, and unceremoniously hauled the unconscious wizard closer. "Keep cutting 'em down! We'll get her out of danger!"
Move two squares, so I believe the caltrops get an attack on me, and standard to reposition Tauni into my square.

Raine only has to move through 5 feet of caltrop infested territory. She can move at half speed through that square to avoid the "attack" roll. She has enough movement to do what she wants without risking injury from caltrops.

Ellena cut down the remaining cultist of Deskari with extreme prejudice, his scythe clattering to the floor.
Does Ellena want to take a move action? I'm working from an iPad at the moment. I'll adjust the map to show that cultist 1 is down. There are currently just four enemy combatants still standing: the goblin to the east (rogue 7), rogue 2 near Karas, and two near the southeast, one of whom is currently out of sight.
| Ellena Lovain |
Seeing the enemy fall, Ellena moved toward the remaining foes, determined to help defend her friends.
| Clebsch GM |
Which foe? The closest is the goblin at the East end of the hall. Or Ellena can help Karas with the tielfing near him.
Avelina of House Galfrey

Avelina drew her crossbow and fired a bolt at the nearby rogue. She could not completely restrain some grumbling about cold resistance.

She hurriedly reloaded the crossbow.

Just moved into my new home and only got my computer set up yesterday. Can I retcon the healing I did on Karas slightly? I don't think it's even possible for Anarya to heal someone for only 3 hit points, even with cure light wounds. She would definitely use a cure moderate wounds, which has a minimum healing of 6.
If it's alright: Cure Moderate Wounds (Karas): 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (7, 1) + 4 = 12

I used her Healer’s Way supernatural ability, which is 2d6, rolled 3. But I used that because I did not want to expend a spell if Anarya might have been saving that for later. She can use the spell instead. I'll adjust the damage on my next post.
I'm still without my home computer, but I'll try to get something updated later today, even if it takes me longer using my iPad. Hope everyone had/is having a happy holiday season.

Raine pulled Tauni to relative safety, still unconscious.
Ellena cut down the cultist in front of her and advanced on the goblin with the crossbow. 17 to cultist 1, who is now dead.
Avelina fired a crossbow bolt, which did not hit.
The last cultist advanced close enough to transfer a spell effect to the rogue in the middle of the landing Rogue 2.
The goblin rogue at the end of the hall looked up at the advancing paladin and tucked and rolled past her to a spot in front of the open doorway to a room to the north, aimed his crossbow at Karas, and fired. The bolt hit Karas in the calf, but did not penetrate very deep (Used acrobatics to tumble and avoid AOO from Ellena, 3 damage to Karas).

Whoops! That's what happens when you have six ways from Sunday to heal somebody - you forget some occasionally! Quite right. I still do want to have used the stronger spell though considering how injured Karas was. I appreciate you taking the effort to conserve resources for me.
Seeing that Karas had mostly cleared the top of the landing, Anarya gathered her light once more and joined him atop the stairs, healing his wounds with another touch as she took a stance back-to-back with the tiefling, facing the goblin with her battle aspergillum drawn. Encouraged by seeing Tauni safe, her eyes met Karas's for a moment and she grinned with determination as she turned to face the goblin, opening his defenses for Ellena to flank.
Cast cure light wounds, move between Karas and Goblin #7, deliver cure light wounds to Karas as a free action.
