Tauni and Karas moved north after the half-orc sorcerer who had ambushed the party inside the house. Anarya turned and headed back toward where she had last seen Anevia, which was exiting the front door of the house. Avelina and Franti hurled insults and challenges from the SW corner of the house.

Avelina's eyes widened at the villain's vicious threats. The fight was not yet over.

She rushed back towards Anevia, almost tripping over her own feet as she scrambled faster than her feet could manage.

Franti looked back as Ellena and Karas passed him. With the two of them heading with Tauni, someone had to look after the smaller blondes. The fool swayed between the two of them, raising his saps defensively.

"Is he invisible again?" The fool pauses, looking at Avelina and Anarya. "The frog/croak bit was funny, right?"

Avelina continued on past Anarya, eyes darting about in search of the villain.

Anarya is up. Karas will want to remind himself of the modified charge rules in the house rules section of the campaign header.

"You will not hurt her!" Anarya cries, as she rushes forward. There is no thought of the danger she is putting herself in as she throws herself bodily in front of her friend, arms spread wide. Her halo bursts with light, flooding across both her own injuries and Anevia's.

Anarya moves to be directly between Anevia and Vagorg, provoking an attack of opportunity from his ranseur. After that attack is resolved, she channels positive energy, excluding Vagorg.

Anevia heals 9 hit points, Anarya heals 13 due to her Fey Foundling feat.

Anarya's defense of Anevia was rewarded by a stab from Vagorg's ranseur (for 5 points). Immediately after her wounds started to bleed, her halo flared and the wounds healed as light flowed from them. Anevia's wounds also closed, leaving only a few superficial remnants. Vagorg howled with rage as his revenge continued to be thwarted.

Karas is up.

The nausea subsided and the anger redoubled. Karas rounded the corner as Anarya let out a gasp of pain from the ranseur. Red clouded his vision and he charged the man, claws bared.

Karas charged at the sorcerer but his attack failed as his claws found no purchase in the force field surrounding the arcane caster. He would have to do better to wound him.

Tauni is up

Tauni rounded the corner of the building, charging ahead blindly after the half-orc. When it registered with her that he was just ahead among her friends, she raised her crossbow and fired.

Tauni approached the increasingly beleaguered sorcerer, her crossbow ready to fire. She was about to pull the trigger when she had a brief vision that showed the large humanoid pausing as Karas did his best to drive his claws into the half-orc. A moment later, as she was reaching the point close enough to fire without being in range of his weapon, Karas swung his claws at him. The claws were deflected by a force, likely mage armor and shield, but in that moment, the sorcerer began to brace for the attack, as she had foreseen. She aimed at the spot she predicted he would be when he paused and fired. The arrow drove true, sticking in his shoulder, just an inch from a major artery. 6 points.

Vagorg stepped away from the reach of Karas' claws and Anarya's mace. Anevia was staggering near Anarya. The sorcerer lifted both hands high in the air as he said an arcane word, "ਸਾੜਨ". He pointed both hands at Anevia and from each set of fingers came a ray of violet flame that headed right toward Anevia.

The flames would have surely reduced her to cinders, but each one missed her, singing her hair and armor but not harming her. Vagorg howled in rage as his attack failed.

The first ray would have put her negative, while the second would have killed her. Iomedae smiled on Anevia.

Vagorg is probably doomed, so post in any order. Effects will be resolved in initiative order, however, so if you are posting out of order, spoiler your post. I will copy and paste the text and results at the point where the action takes effect. Do your worst.

Edit: You've all attacked Vagorg enough to know the following, just to speed the process. Vagorg has AC 21 for the next three rounds at least. He has taken 24 points lethal + non-lethal combined. He has 42 hit points and a constitution of 14. He has orc ferocity, so he can keep fighting for one round after he goes negative.

Tauni continued to close, moving slower and more deliberately now that their quarry was in sight. As she stepped forward, she reloaded her crossbow, raised it to sight in again, and fired.

Franti attempted to take advantage of the chaos. Noticing that his friends have now found the enemy, he dashed towards him recklessly. Saps in hand, he cut off the half-orc. Franti stretched a smile, not at the caster in front of him, but at Karas with his claws primed for another attack. "Already gave 'em the last chance, Silver! All yours!"

Avelina took a place next to Anarya, keeping herself between Vagorg and his target. The spot also had bonus of being close enough to provide much better dramatic staging.

"I have absolutely had ENOUGH of you, you fanatical fool! All shall hear of how you trembled in your final moments."

With an intense focus, Avelina took care to not leave an opening for the villain. She could hardly have him attacking her and ruining such a dramatic finale.

Anevia staggered away to the south and stepped so the stinking cloud obscured her from the current position of Vagorg, making it impossible for him to target her again with a scorching ray or other harmful spells.

"Anevia, get to safety!" Anarya said, worried for her friend. This villain seemed fanatically obsessed with her, and the oracle wanted Anevia out of the line of fire.

"Submit, and raise not your weapons or spells against the righteous!" Anarya commanded.

If the sorcerer were not already dazed, he would be still be unable to move or act as he became ensorcelled by Anarya's commanding magic.

But with her allies gathered around the sorcerer, her shot went wide out of an abundance of caution.

The half-orc now stood dazed, enchanted, and battered. While he still defended himself as best he could, he was uniquely vulnerable.

Karas is up.

Karas stepped forward with frost on his breath even in the heat of the city and death in his glowing eyes. He went for the throat.

Karas' rage was only encouraged as his claws drove with seeming inevitability toward unarmored flesh and then suddenly lost all force as if his claws had sunk into invisible leather an inch thick. The sorcerer's magical armor protected him, but he was still unable to manage to do anything more than defend himself.

"Finally," Ellean called out, as she made it to melee range on the sorcerer. She held Radiance high above her head before letting it fall in a broad swath, trying to remove the threat from her friends.

I'll post a dramatic summary of events once everyone has posted. Meanwhile, Ellena hits for 6.

Again, Tauni stepped forward methodically, loading her crossbow and trying to anticipate her allies movements to get in a clean shot.

Franti swings his saps in hesitance, seeing the energy wane from Vagorg as they began their assault. Already with his attack mid-motion, the fool hops away slightly, hoping to shy away from the half-orc's vitals.

Ellena's bright blade cut into Vagorg's side, while Karas' claws finally found a place to rip into him. By the time Franti swung his sap into the big guy's head, the sorcerer was reeling. The sap sent him into dreamland, unconscious but not dead.

Shortly after that, the stinking cloud Vagorg had cast dissipated and Anevia could be seen still sick to her stomach watching with wide eyes to see if she was going to be attacked again.

Wenduag stepped out of the house a moment later, having spent the whole melee just out of range of the spell effect, trapped in the bedroom. She stood looking at everything, not clearly showing any emotions.

Once Anevia recovered her ability to communicate, she looked down at the half-orc and told a story. "I met Irageth in the River Kingdoms. I had been a refuge from Nisroch in Nidal. I had been saved from that foul place by a cleric of Desna and so as I looked for adventure, I always checked with Desnan leaders to see if I could do anything of service. In Tymon, a Desnan scholar told me about a ruin that he wanted to search for relics of Desna. He said he needed someone with my skills to deal with any dangers that might be there."

Anevia paused, sighed, and resumed. "The scholar turned out to be a spy of the Silent Shroud, still tracking me four years later. The ruin was just a place where this agent's mercenary band was waiting to capture. They were about to torture me when Irabeth and a band of her own allies attacked. She had been working in the same area, tracking down bandits and such. She had begun to track this scholar, who was really a kyton-blooded tiefling, and was able to kill him and rescue me. I began to travel with Irabeth then. While we were in Tymon, she discovered this ..." Anevia did not say any word to describe the fallen half-orc, but the sneer on her face showed she had no merciful terms in mind.

She used her sword to move the robe aside to reveal a holy symbol on his belt. "He was a worshipper of Xoveron, and he was going to burn down an entire neighborhood, just for the thrill of killing and destroying. Beth stopped him and he had been placed in prison, or at least the gladitorial pits that passed for prisons. He obviously survived and escaped. I guess he decided to track down his captor and get revenge. The destruction of the city must have given him hope of doing so."

Anarya, Avelina, Ellena, and Tauni have a general notion of the locations of the cities of Nisroch and Tymon and the nations they are in, Nidal and The River Kingdoms. They are far from the Worldwound southwest and southeast, respsectively. Nidal is supposed to be a place of fear, ruled by worshipers of evil gods. The River Kingdoms are near Taldan, a relatively lawless place ruled by various strongmen and petty kings.

Roleplay the aftermath of the fight. I will post what you find on Vagorg and in the house next.

When the party searched Vagorg, they found the following valuable items:

Tauni identifies the potion as Invisibility and the wand as magic missile at caster level 3, with 11 charges left.

Both Anarya and Tauni recognize the Ranseur as a weapon usually called the Ranseur of the Gargoyle.

A ranseur of the gargoyle appears to have a head crafted of obsidian, but is in fact as hard and resilient as steel. This weapon functions as a +1 ranseur that grants a +4 bonus on disarm checks rather than the typical +2 bonus a ranseur grants. Up to 5 times per day as a swift action, the wielder of a ranseur of the gargoylecan cause its skin to harden for 1 round, gaining a +2 enhancement bonus to its natural armor score.

"Using a real war to try and take petty revenge is terrible. You should be ashamed," Ellena admonished the half Orc. "Where is Irabeth? Did you sneak up and lay her low? I bet she was much stronger than you, you foul cur.".

Ellena stood close to the Orc making sure that no one struck him down, in his current state. If he had freely given surrender, she was going to take it, and prevent his execution.

Karas was leaning in for that very kill but the shining warrior interposing herself snapped him out of his bloodthirst. He rolled to a sit on the ground and breathed heavily as Anevia told her story while his draconic features faded.

Avelina clasped her hands as she leaned in, enraptured by Anevia's story. At its conclusion, she ran up to Anevia and took her hands. A fine dew of sparkling tears of joy covered her eyes.

"How glorious! How beautiful! How valorous! A tale of the Triumph of Good and Love! My dear darling Anevia, I had no idea you came from such a Despicable, Vile, Loathesome land as Nidal! How could you stand growing up in such a place?"

Avelina would love that wand, unless Tauni has her eyes on it. Of course, Avelina would need to be told she can use it if it's given to her

I forgot about Vagorg's Orc Ferocity trait, which gives him one last gasp. Although he is negative, he does not go unconscious but is disabled. His only real option is to run and that will provoke multiple AOOs, which I will roll below just to determine his final status.

Since the half-orc is unconscious, he can't answer any of Ellena's questions unless and until he is healed.

Wenduag checked out the house and reported there were no hiding enemies. The scent of the stinking cloud lingered for a while and it was not helped by the stench of the corpse in the bed. Assuming the group took Vagorg into the house and everyone spent some time there, out of view of wandering demons and cultists, the group had a secure place to recover, heal wounds, and search the house for any indication of what really happened to Irabeth. The corpse in the bed was merely meant as a decoy and was some human woman who was killed with a nasty wound to her stomach, probably from Vagorg's ranseur.

The thumping noise was a rope tied to the bed and threaded up through a hole in the ceiling and down again near the SE corner behind a decorative wall hanging. Apparently, an invisible Vagorg stood there and pulled on the rope to give him time to summon his monstrous assassins. Tauni hypothesized that he must know the ways of casting spells silently and without components.

When the group got inside, Anevia checked a secret compartment in a corner of the bedroom where she and Irabeth kept important valuables. There she found Irabeth had left her 2 potions of cure moderate wounds and 3 potions of invisibility plus a note.

The note was apparently written in haste. It said:

Dearest Anevia. I am at the Defender's Heart with what's left of the crusaders. Password is 'Silverstrong.'

The note was not signed, but Anevia recognized her partner's handwriting. As soon as everyone was healed and the disposition of Vagorg was decided, she was anxious to get to the Defender's Heart, which is nearby.

Avelina clasped her hands as she leaned in, enraptured by Anevia's story. At its conclusion, she ran up to Anevia and took her hands. A fine dew of sparkling tears of joy covered her eyes.

"How glorious! How beautiful! How valorous! A tale of the Triumph of Good and Love! My dear darling Anevia, I had no idea you came from such a Despicable, Vile, Loathesome land as Nidal! How could you stand growing up in such a place?"

Anevia frowned at the memories. "It was hell. My father died before I was born and my mother was a member of a gang of outlaw artists and thieves. My mother taught me to love freedom and art while the gang members taught me how to survive the mean streets of Nisroch."

She paused and looked meaningfully at the group. She swallowed hard and seemed to make a difficult decision and then continued. "I don't usually tell people this, but I was born a boy. I did not feel like a boy, though. When I read stories of heroes and heroines, it was always the women I identified with. Anyway, my mother was being hunted by the authorities and she sent me to a cleric of Desna for safety and I never saw my mother again. In order to better hide me, Veerah disguised me as a girl. I felt more like myself in that guise and became convinced I was born into the wrong body. Well, all that happened when I was 12 and I was not able to make my escape from Nidal until I was 18."

"After that I continued to pretend I was a woman and when I met Beth and we fell in love, it did not matter to her my body. But she knew it mattered to me and recently she bought me an expensive potion that permanently changed my body into a woman's. I think she may have sold her father's sword to be able to afford it." Her eyes teared up and she fell into silence for a spell before rousing herself and urging everyone to move on to the Defender's Heart. "It is just north of here, about a ten minute walk. Maybe 15 with me in tow."

"If she sold her sword, that is quite an expression of true love, all right," Ellena smiled. "Almost nothing is more precious to a warrior than her blade. Almost...," the paladin reflects on Irabeth's sacrifice. She again focused her thoughts on reuniting the two lovers, for something beautiful in the awfulness of the town's current situation.

Tauni listened silently to Anevia's tale, fighting back tears at the poignant sacrifice. Pushing herself to stay busy so that doesn't show too much.

Looking at the arcane possessions of their foe, she pauses after she realizes what the wand is. She considered for long moments the power that it held, and then stood, Aravashnial's words echoed in her memory. She approached Avelina.

"Dear Avelina, hold this, will you? And listen to me for a minute." Tauni handed her friend the wand, and then foldered her own hands over Avelina's and the wand. "Can you feel the power in it? This was created by wizards for wizards. However, I believe Iomedae has blessed you. Not all of her champions wield swords in her honor; I believe you can wield wizard tools in her honor. If you try, you could channel the arcane energy in this wand in the same way you summon Iomedae's Volley of Holy Arrows. But use it sparingly; its stored energy is finite. I believe by using this, you may be able to learn more about the gifts the Inheritor has bestowed upon you to use for her cause. And if you harness this gift, imagine the might you could contribute to Her sacred goals! Will you accept it? Will you try?"

Another like myself saved by a faithful of Desna. Certainly they travel enough to do good all around. Franti nods as the others seem to understand the places Anevia has been. Even had he known Nidal, would the fool see it any different than his Ustalav? Would he label it as misunderstood or simply different as he does his own home?

Franti held back jokes has Anevia went into her history. He realized there was a time and place for such things, and in this circumstance, likely never and nowhere. He did, however, wonder once more if he could swap his gender through the powers of the scale, though dismissed the notion before he acted upon it.

Franti took quick inventory of the half-orc's belongings, grinning as he realized they now had five invisibility potions. The fool was sparing his personal potion for a moment of need, but with four more, he could hardly conjure a reason not to be invisible.

"Yes, yes, 'love is the most powerful force' and so on." Franti winks playfully at Anevia. "Two of you seem blessed to have each other. It is so nice to see others who've realized their love." Franti shoots a look at Karas. Then Anarya. Then Avelina. Then Ellena. Franti sighs, giving a light slap on the shoulder to their newest captive. "Well, we have a new friend to tend to, don't we?"

Karas sat catching his breath and listening to to everyone. "I... um... don't really know about many places beyond the wound but that is something to learn later. Terendelev was pretty focused on her duties the last couple years."

As Franti spoke of the powerful force that is love, Karas blushed staining his silver cheeks rose and looked down. "So um... what are we doing with the Orc?" he asked, attempting to distract everyone from himself "Take him to defenders Heart and strike out from there for the remaining places of interest?"

Avelina stood, mouth agape, as Anevia recounted her story. By the end of it, Avelina's misty eyes had turned into a gushing stream.

"Oh my GODDESS..." *sob* "...I had no idea..." *weep* "...I was traveling with such..." *sniffle* "...an amazing and astounding woman...."

She rushed up to Anevia and embraced her, holding her tight as she would a lifelong friend. Her words gushed out as the tears did moments before.

"Men are utterly and completely terrible, and I couldn't imagine being expected to act like one! I'm so happy you found someone to love! And that you're here with us!"

Avelina pulled back and rested her hands on the sides of Anevia's arms. Avelina gazed into Anevia's eyes with that fierce gaze that had only come out in battle before, that fire that shows when she has oriented her whole self towards a goal.

"You have the power of True Love on your side. I shall never let anything stand in the way of it. I swear it by reforged blade of Heart's Edge."

Avelina listened to Tauni with a sober expression, her mouth occasionally moving as if to begin speaking, only to shut itself. She began pacing back and forth, deeply focused as she began talking things out with herself at a whisper.

"Yes, I think I understand? I can do wizardy things without being a wizard, right? But it's from the Inheritor, so they are still divine wizardy things? Just like a different kind of divine? And she still loves me?"

She finally smiled her irrepressible smile once more, sighing to the clouds.

"She can do anything, can't She?"

She turned to Tauni and stood at attention. She takes the wand with a precise flourish.

"Yes, I think you are quite right. I'm glad we got matters cleared up!"

When Avelina accepted the wand and stood at attention, Tauni leaned in and hugged her. "I think you are meant for important things, my friend." Then she stepped away and added "And what She can't do, Abadar certainly can." She gave Avelina a wink for good measure, then turned her attention to their unconscious captive.

"What shall we do with him? A champion of Xoveron? I dare say we aren't equipped to deal with a captive now. I don't know what organized authorities we can turn him over to at this point." She picked up the wicked ranseur that he wielded. "A ranseur of the gargoyle. A powerful item; further proof of his favor in the eyes of Xoveron."

Karas blinked at Avelina for a moment and let out a small laugh, "That... might be the first time I've been called terrible just for being a man and not for being a tiefling."

He glanced at Franti and Anarya before looking down and dusting himself off a bit.

"There has to be some makeshift jail in town. Bind the sorcerer's hands and let's take them with us. Perhaps Irabeth has an idea of where prisoners are kept."

"Some arcane spells can be cast with just a word. We must gag him as well."

That makes sense, Tauni thought. I'm sure any surviving Abadaran soldiers have set up a garrison with cells.

"Were do we begin to look for something like that?"

"All fellows are foul, Silver, fiends and fools alike," Franti smiled, pocketing a second Invisibility potion before putting the rest on a table for the others. Franti drew his scale, giving it a quick polish, attempting to see his reflection in it before putting it away. "Gods, I'm starting to smear..."

Franti was quick to answer Tauni, having not an answer for her, instead responding with sarcasm. "Ah, yes, let us find another prison for him to escape from." He turned to the corpse in the bed, dismayed. "We should bury her, shouldn't we?"

I'm just waiting on a decision about what to do about Vagorg. If it helps, the party could secure Vagorg in the house, which is farily sturdy and has no damage from recent events. The NW room is a storage room/pantry big enough to hold him. The door could be secured with a craft(carpentry) skill roll. The result of that roll will become the DC for escape if the opportunity presented itself to a conscious Vagorg, with suitable penalties depending on how he is otherwise secured.

You have evidence that he can cast spells silently, since he was in the room with you casting summoning spells without anyone hearing anything.

You could, of course, take him with. You could either heal him enough that he can walk or you can carry his unconscious body. It is not a long walk to the HQ building.

If there are crusaders near, they could be alerted and send a unit over to collect Vagorg. Your best estimate from examining him is that he'll be out for at least hours if he is not healed with magic.

Karas straightened and looked over the situation. "I um... I think we should go to Defenders heart. See if the crusaders there are holding up, and head back out as needed from that base. We can give this sorcerer to the crusaders for trial and such and maybe get a little rest?"
