The bat's bite just misses the flying Barbarian!

Yep. That's gonna leave a bat-bite-shaped mark! >_< Even with a SHIELD spell up, My max AC is 26! (I think) ;P
HP now 84/105 (into my 'Real' HP. ThenkYew False Life!
Justin screams as the bats fangs penetrate the protection of his mystic armor spell.
"That's what I get for making PUNNY so early in the fight!" Justin growls as he swipes ineffectually at the giant bat with his blasting rod.
FORT Save vs DC:20 ?!?

Round 2
Hamar swings around and moves towards the remaining foe swinging both blades at either side of its wing connectors. Probably not moving far enough for the skirmish bonuses this round.
Scimitar Keen, Planar - 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (5) + 14 = 19 - Damage 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Scimitar Keen, Planar - 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13 - Damage 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Dungeon Monkey |
Hamar's acumen is slightly off with his flying condition. He misses his flapping foe. Merle, however, has no issues with her always-hitting magical force bolts. They slam into the creature, send it squealing down into the darkness
End of combat. Good job all!
As the sounds of battle fade, another sound can be discerned coming from the darkness below. A slithery, crunchy sound that raises the hairs on the back of the party's necks
Justin Case |
Justin's eyebrows raise in obvious appreciation of the Sorceress' swift casting of multiple spells. He nods his head in respect to Merle.
"Nice! Out of the frying pan,..."
As the sounds of battle fade, another sound can be discerned coming from the darkness below. A slithery, crunchy sound that raises the hairs on the back of the party's necks,...
"AND into the proverbial frying pan. Time to go!" Justin adds hastily with a pained smile.
Trying to recall, there IS an exit path other than where we came in, yes? :) Probably further into the depths? ;P
"Karrin! Would you be so kind as to lead the way?" Justin asks, bowing her forward in a most gentlemanly manner. (Especially considering the suspiciously fear-inducing noises now headed their way. Particularly if you are a squishy-caster-type-person.)
"Hamar, that fly spell should last a while, Rear guard please? If you get the chance to ID,... WHATEVER is making that noise, please let us know. Just try not to get too close."
"Everyone, Ladies first!" Justin gives a clenched smile as he gestures towards the path again.
Hmm,... Justin is getting WAY to used to giving 'instructions' (IE=Orders) lately. Just sayin'. ;)
Hamar of the Hyena Tribe |
The Barbarian nods, he hovers in place and attempts to peer into the darkness to identify this new threat.
Perception 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (12) + 19 = 31
Justin Case |
"Sounds like whatever's up ahead is on the crawling, slithering side." Blayze says, reloading as she moves forward.
Justin nods.
"One of my favorite sides. To avoid!" The wizard says earnestly.
Justin raises back off the ground with his own long-term flight spell, and takes his usual place towards the middle of the group. Using his height, and his flight spell, to give him the best view of his next spells' target.
Dungeon Monkey |
The Barbarian nods, he hovers in place and attempts to peer into the darkness to identify this new threat.
Perception 1d20+19
Hamar can see the chasm is deep. The sides of it are stained with pale streaks of guano. There seems to be a slowly moving mass farther down. It is just on the edge of his perception, but he gets the impression of a mass of writhing ... something on the chasm floor
Hamar of the Hyena Tribe |
"There is something down there... but at the edge of my vision..."
The Barbarian hovers in place, raising his level slightly up and down so as not to be a moving target in case this thing has a ranged attack.
Moving up and down 15" to take advantage of Wind Stance to gain 20% concealment against ranged attacks.
Dungeon Monkey |
Hamar lowers himself and sees a disquieting sight. The bodies of the slain bats have disappeared under an undulating mat of grubs. These maggoty creatures write in a tangle along the bottom of the cave, a carpet of pale wriggling meat.
Along the edges of the cave are drifts of brownish pupae, about several inches long. A few have broken open, and new scarabs similar to the ones that attempted to eat the party earlier flutter their wings in an attempt to harden them
Hamar of the Hyena Tribe |
The Barbarian grunts, "The slain foes have become new unslain foes born of some filthy dirt horrors. Why can we not just fight goblins and orcs hey?!"
Justin Case |
"WhaaaaaaaaT?!?!?" Justin drawls out slowly as he stops his urging of the others to move along.
The wizard slowly turns to look back towards Hamar, clearly having trouble deciding whether to follow his innate wizardly desire for self-preservation, and leave the immediate area post-haste,...
,...OR to satisfy his intense wizardly curiosity, and go examine exactly WHAT Hamar is talking about!
Memnon floats into Justin's field of vision. The crystal skull peers at the wizard, then rotates to look towards Hamar, then back to Justin.
"You have GOT to be kidding me!" The mimir declares.
"You have the intelligence IF you can call it that! to understand and memorize the intricate and delicate shaping of interplanar forces into a 6th level Merlinscale Evocation. But NOT enough Intelligence to realize that when you see something odd, in an previously unknown and hostile environment, You DON'T go and poke it with a stick!"
Justin Case |
Sorry! I mis-remembered. (WHat else is new?) ;P I thought there was a path or something. THIS room is just a landing ending above the chasm. We did pass another split in the tunnel right before we got her though. (I went back and re-read. Memory not what it used to be!) :)
Justin shakes his head, as if to clear it.
"Memnon. When you're right, you're right." He tells the floating mimir.
The wizard turns and gestures grandiosely towards where they entered.
"OK! NOW we know the source of the smell. Curiosity satisfied. All those who do NOT want to tangle with more of the,... Scarab-Grub-Bat-things, back the way we came! We passed a split in the tunnel. We'll try THAT direction!"
Justin would prefer NOT to tangle with the grub-scarabs. They are not as powerful as the group, individually, but they might be able to overwhelm us with numbers. (The fighters may be able to swing a sword all day, but Justin gets the idea that he will run out of spells long before the pit runs out of grubs! :( He just wants to find the mummies and consecrate the remains. Other nasty-undead-critters-be-danged! ;P

Hamar of the Hyena Tribe wrote:Hamar hovers, "Is there a way to know the right way?"Alessia wordlessly wheels around, pushes roughly through the middle of the group, and marches back down the hallway toward the other path.
Justin shrugs, and points after Alessia.
"Follow the leader?"
The wizard turns and does exactly that.
Hamar of the Hyena Tribe |
Hamar hovers behind the rest of the group, enjoying the weightlessness. He stays in the rear allowing the undead tank that is Alessia to take the lead in this place.
Dungeon Monkey |
Apologies folks, but my map is stored on my home computer.
Alessia whirls and stalks away from the ledge, headed back into the frescoed tunnel the party had emerged from. The others form up and follow the implacable warrior
Take the weekend to RP if you wish. Shake out a marching order. I’ll drop a hint below

That'll work! ;)
As the team forms up behind Alessia as the undead warrior stalks back the way they came, Justin blinks, and squints at the walls and floor of the hall he floats through.
"Huh. Hey Memnon. Remind me to get the name of their cleaning service. This is the most immaculate underground tomb-tunnel-(insert your favorite underground lair name here)-etc that I have EVER seen. I use cleaning spells that don't do this good. If I didn't know any better,..."
Justin blinks. "Hoo-Boy."
Memnon pauses in his flight, and turns his floating skull-self to look around, then up and down as well.
"Huh. Not bad monkey-mage. Your perception of the obvious is quite acute. For a change."
"Hey! Alessia!" The wizard hisses, ignoring Memnon's jibe. Justin gestures, sending his floating candle-mage-lights scooting ahead to catch up to the warrior.
"Slow down a bit! And watch where you're going! This MIGHT be benign. Maybe the resident Mummies are just clean freaks. But if there IS a 'Gelatinous Cube' around, you do NOT wanna walk straight into it!" Justin tries to stage whisper so Alessia can hear him, without raising his voice to 'Here I am! Come and get me!' levels of volume.
Hamar of the Hyena Tribe |
Hamar flies over, "A what cube?"
Alessia of Keoland |

Alessia doesn't acknowledge him and keeps walking.
High Perception, doesn't need to breathe, immune to paralysis, decent DR, high CMB... she's not worried.

It’s a bold strategy Cotton, let’s see if it pays off for her
I mean, so far the strategy of "walking into traps, setting them off, and soaking the damage" seems to be working pretty well...

THIS is why Justin makes friends who wear more metal on their person than he owns in his entire collection of cookware. ;P
Justin Case |
Hamar flies over, "A what cube?"
"Gelatinous Cube." Justin repeats, adjusting his own flight spell so he is even with Hamar.
"Basically a big, living blob of acid. Destroys and eats anything organic, like flesh and leather, but usually leaves metal, glass and such alone. Called a 'Cube' because it's usually large enough to fill an entire section of tunnel or hallway. ,..."
"Like the one we're in now!" Memnon interjects cheerfully.
",...AND the result makes it looks like a cube. Sometimes. Certain tomb and dungeon designers actually place them in their constructions on purpose once completed. To help keep the place 'tidy'. I guess."
"And they are transparent. SO they're Easy to walk into, and Hard to get out of without help."
Hamar of the Hyena Tribe |
Hamar mutters, "Civilized people are the true barbarians...".
"How then do we see this invisible monster?"
Justin Case |
Hamar mutters, "Civilized people are the true barbarians...".
"How then do we see this invisible monster?"
"It's not invisible, just hard to see in dim lighting. So don't go rushing headlong into the dark,... Alessia! Wait up!"
The wizard flicks his fingers, sending half of his floating magic candle-lights speeding ahead to catch up to the armored, undead warrior-ess.

I still need a marching order
Manhayth follows Alessia down the corridor, as does Mel. The warrior wight strides past the raised dais of spikes she had fallen on. She strides through the four-way intersection, going striaght
It seemed like what Alessia would do, I'll retcon if you would have turned
She comes upon yet another raised dais of spikes in the tunnel. Looking up, she sees a dark shaft. She assumes this is yet another pit trap from the upper level
OK. I'm going to halt things here until we get some sort of marching order in ... umm order. Also, I need to know if this is the way y'all want to go
Justin Case |
Well, Following Alessia, Justin would prefer to be behind at least Manayth, Mal, and KArrin. (Always put as much armor between you and certain death as you can when you are a squishy Wizzie!) ;P Merle can be in front or behind Justin, whichever she prefers. And Hamar is a currently flying rear guard, I think? Is that alright guys?
ACX! I missed Blayze! Ranged attacker can be mid or rear. SO Ladies choice. :)
Hamar of the Hyena Tribe |
Hamar will remain flying in the back next to or slightly behind Merle.
