Mido approaches Mata Ryuu and studies him for a moment to see whether or no the man is at all awake or responsive.
Mata Ryu. So we meet again. It looks as if you are deeper involved in this scheme than we first assumed. Alas it appears you are merely a pawn, one that does not even play his own turns... merely one being moved by others.
Diplomacy 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26

![]() |

Giltman prepares to lead the party up another level of the tower, knowing there may be things which need taking care of.
I would suggest we simply tie Mata Ryu up and gag him for now, so that we're not carrying his unconscious body while we deal with whatever else awaits us.

![]() |

It will take magical healing to bring Mata Ryuu back around, but assuming you do that, someone can mark off a wand charge.
Mata Ryuu regains consciousness. Starting blankly at Master Mido.
You may have stopped me, but you will not stop my lady. He says with some affection.

![]() |

"A lady, you say? Sigh... simple-minded men will do so much for the wrong woman..."

![]() |

She is beyond your reach, you can not undo what is now set in motion!
He glances up the stairs.

![]() |

Well coming from yourself who just a few minutes ago proclaimed to be our undoing that doesn't sound overly convincing...
Mido studies the man for any signs of uncertainty and then goes on hoping to provoke him further.
But why don't we take you along to see her...one the one hand she will be very proud of your accomplishment in stopping us and on the other hand you will likely cherish the moment when Beuregards breaks her neck...
as on que Mido snaps his fingers right before Ryuu's nose.
So what do you say... shall we be off?
As the big boss fight seems to be coming up do folks have any buffs like Protection from Evil they can prepare ahead of time?

![]() |

Mido (or anyone) go ahead and give me a sense motive roll, if you want.
As I said, she is beyond your reach, but I would delight in watching her end all of you.

![]() |

I'll get my shield of faith up just before we head into the fight.
Miyako turns to look at Mata Ryuu.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
"He's really convinced she'll beat us, isn't he? Guess we'll just have to disappoint him."

![]() |

Bo will flop Matu onto the ground, trying to read the meaning behind his words.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
He'll then pull out a potion of Enlarge person and hold onto it, ready for battle.

![]() |

Bluff: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Beauregard gets the feeling that Mata Ryuu is actually very nervous about the fate of Jujanil. Ryuu squirms at Bo's words.
-------
Feeling you've gotten about all you will from Mata Ryuu, you ready yourself and head up the stairs.
At the top twin braziers disperse the scent of jasmine oil throughout this bedchamber. A yeti pelt is draped over a futon near an arcane circle carved into the floor. North of the circle, a teak box overflows with jade figurines. A hollow in the eastern wall is bordered with a marble carving of wolves stalking a hare amid grave markers. Words are carved in a spiraling script around the hollow.
If you have other questions for Mata Ryuu feel free to post them.

![]() |

"He is worried about his mistress fate, I can see the sweat building up, if we could defeat him with ease, we'll have no problem with this lady and he knows it!"

![]() |

"Hmm... I was expecting his 'mistress' to be here. Perhaps this person is hiding?"
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

![]() |

Master Mido steps into the room and examines the scrypt on the wall.
Is it Aklo? Sadly my comprehend languages has expired...

![]() |

Giltman does not find anyone hiding in the room.
Master Mido examines the script, his comprehend language expired awhile back, but luckily this is written in a language he understands Tien.
"Only by destroying my brother could I walk safely into the grave, and emerge before the undead who worship me."

![]() |

Bo will walk over to examine the script, he recently learned Tien so he will read it to himself, pondering its meaning.

![]() |

Elska and Nuk follow. "What's it say Bo?" she asks, before continuing on toward the teak box. "What are these jade figurines?"
Perception: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (2) + 14 = 16

![]() |

"I think that that lady we are looking for is dead, or rather undead."
Bo will also look around the room, expecting a ghost to jump out at any second now.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12

![]() |

Elska examines the teak box and finds it contains 18 jade figurines depicting the following animals: eagle, fox, butterfly, horse, raven, ox,dog, crow, jackal, rat, snake, whippoorwill, crane, songbird, carp, monkey, tiger, and ram.
These as the sacred animals of 18 of the 20 major deities of Tian Xia. Two animals are missing: the wolf of Fumeiyoshi and the hare of Tsukiyo.
Bo doesn't notice anything other than already noted.

![]() |

Knowledge (religion): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11 No idea!
I wonder if they are magical?
Elska casts detect magic and looks at the figurines, then looks around the room.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22 <-- just in case

![]() |

Elska casts detect magic. The figurines are not magical, however as she looks around the room she finds that the arcane circle on the floor radiates a moderate conjuration aura.

![]() |

Only by destroying my brother could I walk safely into the grave, and emerge before the undead who worship me
Kn. Religion to identify figurines1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
These as the sacred animals of 18 of the 20 major deities of Tian Xia. Two animals are missing: the wolf of Fumeiyoshi and the hare of Tsukiyo.
Does this have anything to do with Fumeyoshi and the mural we examined earlier? Would a Kn. Religion check help here?

![]() |

Miyako recalls that the tapestry on the first floor showed, in the first panel, someone who is clearly Fumeiyoshi is shown sundering a piece of jade armor off another combatant. Then in the second panel, the Lord of Envy gloats over the fallen figure with the shard of jade held high, while in the final panel, Fumeiyoshi thrusts the shard into an arcane circle where it crumbles to dust, activating a nearby portal in a graveyard.
Elska recalls that she noticed the torn piece of jade in the second panel resembled a hare.
Tsukiyo, Prince of the Moon, and the hare is Fumeiyoshi brother.

Kn. Religion1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Kn. Religion Reroll1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Mido stands around dumbfounded for a moment before he can make sense of all this.
Of course...Tsukiyo the Prince of the Moon is Fumeiyoshi's brother and slaying him was Fumeyoshi's entrance to undeath. Whether or not our foe has stepped into the realm of undeath I could not say however...
I bet this is a puzzle of sorts...I hate puzzles....

![]() |

Miyako picks up the figurine of the fox and inspects it from different angles before putting it back.
"I like foxes."
She turns to the magic circle on the floor and inspects it for spots where the figurines would fit in.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18

![]() |

Giltman doesn't have anything to add to the investigation, it would seem.

![]() |

Bo will walk over to the Teak box and pick up the Crow jade figurine "Maybe I should throw this into the ritual circle?"

![]() |

"Yeah, let's see what that does," encourages Elska.
I started to caution that we should think on this more, but Elska is much more rash than I am. So her response doesn't necessarily represent what I think we should do.
That said, I am not seeing the answer to the puzzle.

![]() |

Bo will walk over, step inside the arcane portal, kneel down saying, "Wish me luck" and proceed to thrust the jade figurine into the the ground.

![]() |

Miyako studies the arcane circle and notices it contains crushed jade dust within its grooves.
The arcane circle can be used to produce a portal; you feel you can create the portal with a 1-minute ritual.
Studying the room, you also note the following, which you noticed when you entered, but now seems more relevant... the hollow in the eastern wall is bordered with a marble carving of wolves stalking a hare amid grave markers.
Beauregard picks up the crow statuette walking into the circle he crushes it, jade shavings disperse from the impact and nothing seems to happen.

![]() |

"Let's see if we can find the wolf or hare figurines," says Elska before she begins thoroughly searching the room.
Perception, take 20: 20 + 14 = 34

![]() |

Not only does the arcane circle produce a portal, but you can tell that the circle has been set-up so that the performer of the ritual will be instantaneously pulled through the portal once it is completed.
Elska thoroughly searches the room for wolf or hare and finds that the hare and the alpha wolf in the hollow carving are actually jade figurines. And they look as if they can be removed.

![]() |

"Ah," she smiles as she plucks them out of the carving. "Here they are."
Elska turns on her heel and walks back over to the others. "Try these, Bo"

![]() |

Bo will take the figurines from Elska, "Thanks, should we all get inside the circle together before I try this?" Noticing that Master
Mido seems rather intent and interested in the arcane lines, "Have you discovered something of this portal's secret, Master Mido?"
Unfortunately, to hold both figures, I had to put my Potion of Enlarge Person away

![]() |

Wait! From the look of it this device will likely immediately teleport you once activated. We should all step into the circle...

![]() |

Miyako bags the figurine of the fox, just because she likes it, and steps into the circle.
"This will be my first portal trip! Aren't you all just as excited?!"

![]() |

"Bo, let me help you with one of those, so that you may be properly prepared. Mido, you seem to know enough about this... how is this ritual performed? I would hate for us to smash these icons if they are needed in some other way beforehand."

![]() |

Scenario doesn't provide a lot of details other than the ritual takes 1 minute and involves smashing (a) figurine(s). Well free to roleplay some details or we can just leave it at that.

![]() |

Elska leads Nuk into the circle. "It's ok, boy. I know it's scary, but it's ok. You'll be ok. I'll be right here with you."
She takes out her longbow and her wand of gravity bow, turns to her friends and says, "We're ready."

![]() |

Thank you, Giltman. . . Drawing his potion of Enlarge Person back out, "Alright, let's get close guys, huddle together, its a small circle and there are a lot of us"

![]() |

Nuk trumpets and gently nuzzles Bo with his trunk.
