Given the generally reduced posting rate of some (not judging, just saying), when we have at least two posts pointing at a similar decision, I'm going to assume the party is going along with that decision in order to get the game going a little faster.
I will say now that starting next game day, I've got a plan in mind to pick up the game's energy and pace a bit. It'll (probably) be a surprise for you. ;)

Didn't the deceased lass mention something about a 'Young' relative?
A younger relative, specifically the older woman's younger brother. They both looked very young at the time their portrait was taken.
How might the fellow in the chair have accessed/worked the clunky-sounding door?
That... is a good question. :)
The 'Other' door? Would it lead into a different room? Or might it lead to the back of the house/cottage?
The cottage is small, so you'd have easily noticed it must lead to another room.
Wait? We don't know the deceased lass' name, do we? Maybe the fellow is giving us a test?
You did not catch her first or last name. You did catch her speak the name "Angelov", however.
A test? Perhaps... :)

Oh wow, again? At least you didn't revert back to Windows 7 again this time! Best of luck.

Wishing everyone all the very best.
Computer is baaaack. *Does happy dance*
Is developing into a rather wet and cold winter here
Which, given that MOST of the country is actually a desert? Is not quite a bad thing. The localised flooding? Yah, well. It's Australia. If it isn't trying to burn you to a cinder. It's making you swim for your life. 'Beaut place we got 'ere, Mate. XD

Glad it's back!
But wow, sounds bad. Good luck, Sunny!
It's starting to warm up for spring here in the US, though you probably don't want to hear about my nice weather right about now, LOL.

Looks like most of us are busy dealing with stuff. I'll move things along within the next 24 hours.

Sorry.
When talking about 'Home' it might sometimes come across as 'dismissive'.
"Familiarity breeds contempt", as they say.
So. It seems that this year the overall weather is shifting from 'Hot and dry' to cool and wet. Not a meteorologist but there are a few large, long-cycle weather effects that roll over/across Australia. (El Nina etc)
I live sort on the edge of one of the major cities. (Yah, urban creep and all that) So the infrastructure is kind of okay with things?
Long-winded way of saying, "Beware Australian larrikinism" when I talk/mention things. Like the Crocs, or the ants, or the birds, or the killer trees, or the spiders, or the sharks, or the jellyfish, or the 'Roos, or the... Uh, I suppose it's like Canadians off-handedly mentioning things about their big Elky-deer critters.
Some of our humour is far closer to British.
Looking forwards to everyone being great. (^_^)

No need to apologize, Sunny. I figured there was sarcasm in there as well as a legitimate complaint. :)

About a month ago, I posted that I had a plan to pick things up. I was excited to make it a surprise. But it has since occurred to me that for a particular reason (which I will divulge another time), it would be better all around if I just reveal the plan before proceeding.
The Plan. I'd like to recruit a few new players to join this game. You may have noticed that I'm currently NPCing more than half of the party, LOL. Going forward, I'd like to stop that. It's time-consuming, but more importantly it understandably turns off some players (not that anyone's complained, but I've seen this happen elsewhere). So in effect, my plan is to replace the NPCs in the party with PCs, and soon.
More on recruitment in the near future.

I am good with new players as well. I thing you are doing a great job as gm and I appreciate all the work you do to keep yhe game going

So right now it looks like active players are Sunny, Zelda and myself, until you recruit?
Looks like Christoph's last post under any alias was 2 months ago and Istivan's last post in this game was a year ago.

Two months is a very long time. I recently reached out to Christoph, and am awaiting a response. Last he posted here, it sounded like his computer was gone and his life was hectic. I'm hoping he is both able and wanting to return soon. But if I don't hear back from him by the time we select the new recruits, I'll have to assume he cannot continue and I would recruit accordingly. Hopefully he can, though! I really like his character, especially the background we came up with together.
Istivan is definitely out, unfortunately. A year is far too long. I had reached out to him a couple of times, way back, but no response. I hope he's well.
I'm thinking of shooting for two new recruits, possibly three, bringing us to a total of five (or six) if it's just Sunny, Zelda, and you left. I like a range of 4-6 players, but I always recruit high in case of the inevitable MIA or two.

I just realized I'm not sure how much the group might have shared with me about the Professor's death, given when I joined. I'm sure I'm aware that he's dead, but it might be better for someone else to fill Sunny in.

Sorry for the extended absence! I did have some computer problems/work stuff/health issues but I think I'm back in a better place. I'm going to try and get caught up here tomorrow/Weekend. I wrote a big catchup post back when I last posted on discussion and lost it and then the rest kind of cascaded. :(
I really like his character, especially the background we came up with together.
I'm glad! I really like him too. He's probably my favorite character background that I've played. Looking forward to getting going again.

Great to see you back, Christoph! :)
Work is driving me nuts lately too... Speaking of absences, sorry for mine! I had quite the busy week. Though I'll probably wait for Christoph to post...
And it looks like you have some inter-PC discussion going on, too...
Sunny mentioned she's looking for a "Master Lorrimor" (Professor Lorrimor?) Which of course I think all of you know who that is. As a reminder, Zelda and Ali attended his funeral at the start of this game (back in 2014!). And one or more of you also might happen to know him, too...
Zelda is asking who might know about the dead noble's family. As a reminder (it's been a while...), Zelda was able to make out part of a name (his, presumably) written on a writ to Ascanor Lodge (where you're headed). Also, Rhia's spell revealed he was seeking a Cilas Graydon, whom Sookie identified as the "Margrave of Sturnidae". Though you may want to refresh your memory on what Sookie had to say about him.
GM Kartari |
Zelda looks to the old man. "We found another victim with this nobles signit ring. Do you recognize it. Do you know who his family might be?"
That's a good question, Zelda. It would take a tough Knowledge (nobility) check vs DC 25 (would be 30 I'd say, but I'll give +5 for getting the partial name "Ech... D...") to recognize the signet because he is really a very minor noble. Someone who grew up in a region where he was prominent might know more easily, but I don't think anyone here has.
If anyone could make that tough check though, they are free to try. :)

*Nods* As I detailed to GM Kartari back when I was seeking to join.
My thoughts were of Sunny and her Kin having met the late Professor waaaay back when he was 'Just' a lad out doing his 'Darwin Beagle of discovery' days on his growth to becoming a Professor.
The Professor's estate sending out missives to a whole range of former contacts etc. The message gets to Sunny's people and (Given their rather alien perception of 'Time'.) here she is doing her best to hold up her Kin's level of appreciation for the good late Professor.
(^_^)
Much cheers and best wishes to all.

It seems like a great plan given the number of missing folks and that it's got to be a lot of work for you. You've done a great job with it, by the way. Are you thinking about seeing off all of the DM PCs or only a subset?
Mechanically, 2 add ons with some arcane/front liner coverage seems like our biggest missing gap.

Thanks! I have been contemplating the possibility of keeping one NPC on. I will keep it a secret who I am leaning towards until the moment comes. But you are all free to make suggestions, if desired. :)

Agreed. I tend to go with character feel and back story first, but that would cover the gap for sure.

Speaking of recruitment, I'd like to keep with what a previous GM of this game came up with a while ago, and let you, the players, take part in recruitment. You only need do so as you each are able to, it's not required.
I think it's important that the players as well as the GM like the characters joining their game. So if we get more candidates than slots to fill, I'd like you each to vote for your favorites. Feedback elaborating on your choices would also be welcomed. When the time comes, you should probably PM me your votes and feedback (to avoid the potential for hurt feelings). I'll get a vote too, and will also be the final arbiter should there be a tie. But I will go with the collective choice.
Also, I recall from past recruitments that the Recruitment tab can get fairly busy with new faces and many questions. I am not generally able to login and post here as frequently as I'd like to. I will point recruits to the guidelines I've had in the Campaign tab for character creation, so all questions should (probably) be already answered for them as far as character creation requirements go. But if you have the time to contribute responses to any questions you can answer, please feel free to do so.
I'm thinking next weekend I'll open recruitment up. We'll look for two new players then.
GM Kartari |
I just updated the posting requirements, actually. I've not been able to keep up with the rate I had originally posted some years ago, so I shouldn't expect it from others, LOL.
*Sunny* |
Looking forwards to interacting with all the new people. Heck, all the people actually. (^_^)
So.. how long has Sunny been 'On the road' as it were?
More than a month? Less than twelve?
Chauncy is pretty much the "All terrain snek". There's not much they can't swim across or climb over. Inniitallyit would have been 'Straight swimming'. The only complicated bits would have been cities and towns once Sunny and Chauncy hit land.
Just asking to get a feel for how far away you might think Sunny's people's island is/might be.
Much cheers to every one! (^_^)
GM Kartari |
Great!
BTW regarding Professor Lorrimor and the funeral that started it all, I'd say it's been about five weeks since the funeral of the late professor. In case this becomes important to know for some reason.
Of course, only two surviving (N)PCs attended that funeral. But more of you at least received word of his passing, and had intended to make it.
*Sunny* |
It's okay. Was just wondering. I was thinking since Sunny's people are more a 'Fan-made thing', they'd be waaay off the maps.
So, three months? Almost four at this point? Plus, now Sunny is going in completely the wrong direction to boot. XD
She's happy to tag along, especially once she learns about the poor Professor's passing and how 'Not an accident' it was.
Am going to try and have Sunny give off some darker undertones. Elven life spans have always intrigued me when it comes to thinking about things like 'Revenge'.
After all, say some one is friends with an Elf. Some other nasty fekker comes along, and 'BAM' Elf friend goes away.
Now you've made an enemy of a creature that can literally outlive you, your children and your children's children. (Assuming said enemy is of the 'Other' creature types.)
Think Peppe Le Pew... Just instead of wanting to smooch you into oblivion... well...
Much cheers and best wishes for/to everyone! (^_^)
GM Kartari |
Yeah, that actually reminds me of "younger" Galadriel in the Rings of Power series on Amazon Prime. I don't want to spoil it if you haven't seen it yet, but it's apparent from the first episode she's hell bent on tracking down Sauron to murder him for what he'd done.
*Sunny* |
Though, um yes, Pepe's other attributes were always played up as well. I do like the few times the cat (Did she ever get a name?) lost her sense of smell, and oh how amusingly did the tables turn. :)
Much cheers to all. (^_^)
