You don't know how handy it actually is :)
Also, feel free to post long, because it's a PbP :) I try to write meaningfully, but in combat it gets harder ("Yea, that guy attacks that girl again" keeps coming up)... Still, it's praiseworthy that you pulled off a long post during a combat.

Haha thanks. Both, actually... I found this, but haven't had much chance to find anything more comprehensive about Lovecraft's Aklo language. So (in the meantime at least) I'm borrowing words there, and adding my own made up words (influenced by the sounds of Tolkien's incomplete Black Speech).

Oooooo cool! Thanks for sharing :3

Thanks Ulrik, to you as well. :)

I want to try outlining the tone for the scenario.
These are uneducated men. You are fighting very ignorant people. Their ways of life are simple, and they have never even seen an orc or a gnoll in their lives. All they have seen are farms, and even any arcana that may have happened in Ravengro has been performed in secret from them. They have absolutely no idea what a necromancer is. To them, it is just somewhone who decided to slay an animal and place it on a crossing, to claim that he had some arrangement with a fiend. They have no idea what a fiend is. For all it is worth, if they saw a wolf surrounding the fields in the night, they would say they saw a fiend. They think that magic and other arcana are hexes that people can cast on other to bring good or ill fortune, to cause them to succeed in an enterprise, or to undergo disaster.
In fact, you have barely seen an orc, if ever. You may have seen parts of aberrations at universities or freak shows, but for all you know those could be forgeries or parts of malformed animals. You have never seen undead; in fact, to you undead are just speculation that existed in a mythic time, older than the time of your fathers. What they saw as undead must have been very sick people, or abandoned corpses, rotting on a battlefield. They have heard an occasional creak in their houses, sometimes a possum which entered the cuboards, and they attributed to activity to supernatural forces, ghosts, and so on.
Zelda has tragic memories of her village with a limited amount of detail about the disease itself.
Naught has buried the memory of the Vargouille so deep in her that she almost sees the creature in her mind as a humanoid with physical traits similar to hers.
Cellawyn has seen a bunch of theory and books during her courses, while most of her military work was more in the insurgents and mad cultists, with the encountering undead being a sole, looming promise that she had never see come true. One in her situation would have almost been convinced that undead were a general misconception of the real threat, which were evil (living) people.
Though Aliseya may have experienced a few oddities now and then from her way of life, they were oddities -- mysterious people, strange dreams, eerie landscapes. Perhaps her strange dreams had been stranger than life, but, then again, some individual do have some very strange dreams.
Mirelinza is the one who's had it the toughest, because she actually murdered a man.

We're on the same page.

I have +2 for my Persuasive Feat and +2 for my Ability Modifier. Have I missed something? I tend to rely on sCoreForge to get it right - but it never hurts to check.
Whoa, I missed this post. Sorry, I didn't see your persuasive feat, so I was reverse-engineering it into three ranks plus ability modifier. My bad.

Ulrik of Belkzen |

My only concern would be if it was entirely based upon the roll of a dice. I once lost a character because of two dice rolls (not mine) that meant she drowned. All those levels and time and investment gone in two posts. As you can tell, it still hurts (and it was over 12 months ago).
Naught and you seem to be against permadeath. If it will kill the game for the players, then there's not much sense to do it :) I will just have to use my creativity to punish failure in other ways -- that, of course, after excluding failure that is caused only by randomness.

If I chose to walk into the lair of a dragon unarmed, then I deserve death and would be surprised if you allowed anything less.
If I lose an even fight but a series of events conspire against me, and I die - then that's the life of an adventurer and I would accept the fate with good grace.

*sigh* I miss the Frenzied Berserker.

Ulrik of Belkzen |

The Frenzied Berserker was too much, especially with the Power Attack from D&D 3.5.
(By the way, one of my friends played a Barbarian on D&D 3.5, and when he got to level 20 he was asked to roll some skill check, and he responded "How many ranks do I have?" Only then did we realize he had not picked any skill ranks since character creation...)
I actually think the Invulnerable Rager is already quite powerful.

Aliseya Belododia |

I didn't want to ruin the surprise during second recruitment, but I did suggest another healer in the party would be a good idea. ;)
And we do have another, thankfully.

Ulrik of Belkzen |

Yea, folding someone like a tablecloth is the best way to execute a successful Heal check.
I have awful handling of personal and demonstrative pronouns in English, because interpreting them is highly cultural, and, being a native speaker of the radically-different Portuguese, I don't have any sense whatsoever of how native speakers will actually parse some of my texts.
A large amount of going back and forth between ideas within a terribly long sentence and across paragraphs is common in Portuguese, even natural, in my opinion, and it usually drives "English readers" nuts too, but you should expect that kind of writing from me :)

Ulrik of Belkzen |

Just consider my rationale: a Vargouille is the head of a fiend, so technically, Naught has the head of a fiend. A tiefling would be a reasonable explanation, but at the same time she doesn't quite look like one overall (no crazy blank eyes).

Lol yeah I was just making a joke, neat observation on Kendra's part, I'm interested to see how this plays out.

Aliseya Belododia |

Oh okay :3 when I first read it I read it as putting Ali's legs over her shoulders and I was like wait, WTF!? What are you making me do DM?!?! Lol
In the first run with Yog, Naught whistled at Aliseya. In this second iteration with Ulrik, Naught is grabbing Aliseya's legs, hoisting them over her shoulders, and carrying her in her arms...
If we have the misfortune of needing a third rerun, I fear Naught's actions will call for this game to be placed on an "18 and up" forum, lol. ;D
...
Looks like I'm a bit behind... will post within the next hour or so.

Hmmm our healer faints at blood or violence. This will be interesting in the future.

Aliseya Belododia |

Moreso she seems to be admitting a strong aversion to violence in particular. Not so much the sight of blood (on its own).
But yes, while not entirely practical for a healer, I think she will prove very interesting... ;)

Aliseya Belododia |

Perv, make yourself ready."
Yes, his father calls him Perv.
I for one am not too keen on wanting to see "Perv" make himself "ready..." O.o
Yep... this game certainly has great potential to head for the "18 and over" forum after only two pages of posts... :D
EDIT: Either that, or my head is way too far in the gutter (true story).

Ulrik of Belkzen |

In certain circumstances, unlike the current one, but similarly to the farmers' disturbance -- and with this I apologize for mishandling the beginning of the encounter -- you will have to roll Diplomacy as a group. Please elect one to be the official Diplomacy roller, and the rest will roll aid another. RP will be as usual, please write as if your character is trying hard even if mechanically she is just aiding.
For the Diplomacy check aid another bonuses will not stack -- by the way, the +2 aid another bonus from grappling stacks! :O Can you believe it? A raging Naught can grapple at CMB +13 if everyone jumps in to help (and the other ladies don't even need to roll anything) :) That's more than a 50% chance of successfully grappling with a Troll!
Tying up the target is even more interesting! Oh... exploitation...

Naught |

The two military and the younger acolyte approach Aliseya. Gharen Muricar says, dazzled by the Varisian's looks, "So... I take it that you knew the Professor?"
What a horrible pick-up line.
Imitating Ali's voice: "Oh no, I just, like, really love going to, like, funerals. And puppies!
...
Sorry.

Aliseya Belododia |

It seems the dice gods are not my ally this night. Lol.

Like, oh my gods! You know, that's so, like, not fair. Like, you know, I don't, like, talk like that. Like, really!

Ulrik of Belkzen |

This, ladies, is our Professor Petros Lorrimor.

Aliseya Belododia |

"Oh my gods Perv. Like, some words should, like, remain unspoken..." ;D
I'm bad, I know... totally joking with ya Ulrik. ;) Sorry, sorry everyone! Okay, no more potty mouth jokes from me... for another 24 hours at least...

Aliseya Belododia |

I was hoping Aliseya would say "EEEw-uh!"
Ah! How could I forget... fear not, this majestic phrase shall grace our pages soon enough I'm sure.

Ulrik of Belkzen |

Waiting for me... I was very busy with work until today :( (I kept updating the announcements in the campaign page).
I am now free and I started writing the post in response to everyone. I am sorry for the delay, but these last days have been pretty intense in front of the computer for work, with very little time for (quality) typing for the RPG...
By the way, would you guys please choose a diplomat for the group?
