Jim resists the urge to roll his eyes. Idiots. Get that complacent and stupid at sea, and you die. "Dingus? Groom? Mind carrying Kaul? Unlike some folks, we don't leave our mates behind."

Jim will look around for a street food vendor as the party heads back to the house. Anything that can be carried in one hand and has some meat in it, and he's not too picky about what kind.

He'll murmur to Dibbets at some point, "I'll take the ocean, thank you very much. This place is like navigating shoals when you don't know iffin' the tide's in or out...."

I mentioned we only had time for the ring....any thing else the guard or scavengers must have taken. ;-)

Background and appearance updated on profile, my Captain.

The Groom will spit a gush of salt water into Kaul face (Create Water). If that does not revive him, he will struggle to get the half-orc to his feet. "Will definably require assistance," he manages to mutter.

An unusual smile crosses the Grooms's face. He is glad to be going back....so much left unanswered.

As Dingus and the Groom struggle to get the densely muscled half-orc off the ground, Jim finds a nearby vendor selling fried shark on a stick for 4 pennies. Vinari ambles over while Jim is buying his meal and demands, ”Hey, get me one of those, too.”

perception DC 20:
You notice a bit of strangeness at the edge of the Field of Honor. There is the faint sound of a magical invocation while several strollers in the area look around confused by the unseen voice. Their gaze then drifts eastward across the Field as if following something.

penny = brass or copper coin of lowest denomination.
sail = gold coin as per the Chelish sail which makes up the bulk of Freeport's plunder.

edit: lowered the perception DC to gives ya a better chance.

Yeah, no chance on that first one, this one is pretty tough too.

Jim looks at Vinari, looks back at the vendor, wordlessly hands over a skull, and holds up two fingers.

How does the vendor react to Vinari's presence?

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14

Dibbets is walking alongside Kaul, periodically giving him a light slap to see if he'll come round.

As the vendor makes change, Jim catches his eye to see if he reveals any particular reaction to the overbearing Taldan. If any ill will exists, the man keeps it well hidden behind a façade of professionalism.

Dingus and the Groom manage to get the half-orc in a vertical position and stagger back up the wide street at about the same rate that Dibbets can hobble. Eventually Kaul comes back around still blinded and incoherent for a moment, but shaking his head and blinking he rejoins the world of the conscious with a slight headache.

As the group approaches the house again the door remains open and a small knot of five Watch members confer in front. You see a couple of Easterners watching from across the street or peering from their windows. Upon spotting the Hell Hounds in the lead, the leader of the Watch holds up his hands in front of him. ”Hey, Hey, Dolo, Vinari, we don’t want any trouble. We had to respond here. A runaway cart ran down a couple in front of us and then this fat bastard comes running down the street wailing like a banshee. We followed the trail of piss back here and find this mess. I think that’s Goyne in there, but the body was already looted when we got here. You know what’s going on?”

At about this moment Kaul notices he feels a bit less encumbered than before and realizes the ring and the bag of loot from the witch’s chest are missing…

Male Half Orc Rogue (Thug) 7+5 | HP 70/70 | AC 21/14/NA | F+5, R+9, W+2 | IP 1 | Perc +10 (+11 Freeport), Darkvision 60ft | Init +3 | Move: 30ft. | Status: Bleedin' 3, Rage 2/6 & -4 with Claw arm

Kaul gives his noggin a couple of bumps as if emptying seawater from his ear, then squints suspiciously at the scene unfolding before him...

He brushes himself down, unslips his brass knucks and stows them (using the opportunity to see if anything else is missing).

Kaul sports his gargoyle grin as he wryly mumbles "Good to be back lads... hur-hur-hur. Close my eyes fer a damn'd second and we's up to our hairy pits in Hounds and Watchdogs hur-hur-hur!"

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

"Thank the sky lord we're back Kaul, methinks they'd a tired o carryin ye after a while" he says with a genuine grin of relief.

Addressing the guard "See anythin else in there but Goyne?"

The sergeant looks down at Dibbets and then sheepishly at the other Watchmen. ”Um, we didn’t really look around much. The place just doesn’t feel right. Some folks were saying it’s haunted, you know, being a witch house and everything.” he mumbles.

Dolo, the tall Bekyar makes the spiral of Pharasma across his chest and spits. Vinari chuckles and taunts the sergeant in his nasally voice, ”Ooooh, spooooky!”

The sergeant turns a little redder and stands aside, ”Well, have a look yourselves. It’s your business anyway!” he growls.

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

Aside to the Groom "Whats yer skull sayin? Said in a quiet voice so the hounds and watch don't hear.

Male Half Orc Rogue (Thug) 7+5 | HP 70/70 | AC 21/14/NA | F+5, R+9, W+2 | IP 1 | Perc +10 (+11 Freeport), Darkvision 60ft | Init +3 | Move: 30ft. | Status: Bleedin' 3, Rage 2/6 & -4 with Claw arm

Kaul flashes an ugly smile at the halfling: "Good ta be back Dibbs"

Then attempting to take the attention from Dibbet's conversing with the Groom and his boney oracle Kaul bundles up to the guard sergeant: "You flat feet notice any o' my kind around? With the fat-man per'aps?" he queries in his grumbling tongue.

Male Human (Chelaxian) Inquisitor of Besmara 6+2 | HP 46/46 | AC 20/Flat 17/Touch 13 | CMD 17/Flat 14 | F+5, R+5, W+8 | IP 0 | Perc +12 | Init +6 | Move: 20ft.

With Keelhaul off his shoulder, the Groom reaches into his satchel and pulls out his sheet-wrapped bundle. To Dibbits, as he peeks in at the contents, "Let's see if she is awake."

Male Human Sorcerer 7, Cleric 1: HP 46/(46); AC-16/14/12; F+5, R+5, W+5/+4. (Spells:3: 6/6, 2:8/8, 1:8/8) IP-17

"You could stand to lose a few pounds". Dingus grunts to Kaul as the man regains control of his senses. "And a bath wouldn't kill you" .

The man then withdraws further into his hooded cloak, and watches events unfold. He would like another shot at this place.

The sergeant lifts an eyebrow at Kaul's question, "No, not many of your kind around. Mainly keep wharfside or in the Bloodsalt where they belong," he adds pointedly.

As the Groom pulls back the sheet he is greeted by a reddish glow rekindled in the skull’s eye sockets.

Male Human (Chelaxian) Inquisitor of Besmara 6+2 | HP 46/46 | AC 20/Flat 17/Touch 13 | CMD 17/Flat 14 | F+5, R+5, W+8 | IP 0 | Perc +12 | Init +6 | Move: 20ft.

the Groom drops the sheet back. In a low voice to Dibbits, "We have her attention. Keep yer eyes peeled."

Passing Kaul, "I retrieved this while you dirt napped in the street. Needed to show them a gesture of good faith. It's why they wanted to come here." He places the ring in his hand. (I think I still have it, I showed them, but there was no exchange.)

Male Half Orc Rogue (Thug) 7+5 | HP 70/70 | AC 21/14/NA | F+5, R+9, W+2 | IP 1 | Perc +10 (+11 Freeport), Darkvision 60ft | Init +3 | Move: 30ft. | Status: Bleedin' 3, Rage 2/6 & -4 with Claw arm

Kaul grins back at the sergeant - all sharp teeth, scars and a belligerent glint in his eyes: "Heh. Ain't too many of yoursort neither in the Bloodsalt flatfoot... well not breathin that is... heh.heh.heh."

He then eyes Dingus cautiously... and leans in, with a course whisper: "Big and stinking I may be mate... but thems handy traits when I be rippin a man a new smile on yer say-so... keep that in mind eh? Hur-hur."

His thought broken by the Groom placing the ring in his hand. Kaul looks up his amber eyes glinting as he addresses the Hellhounds...

"So you boys comin or are we the spook bait?"

Cap'n:

Skipper know you mentioned giving us a levels worth o' time to settle our characters... well been thinking about Kaul. Much as I like the Falchion as a weapon (whoring big cutless/cleaver) had originally wanted Kaul to wield a big boarding hook/meat hook type weapon... never thought about the Ogre Hook... (Know its an Exotic Weapon but wondered if I could swap it out for the "Weapon Familiarity" of Orc weapons/Great Axe & Falchion?). Bess would just be a Big feckin hook which just seems more Kaul... dunno what you reckon though? Stick with cleaver?? :S

Male Taldan Human Free-Hand Fighter/5 Inspired Blade Swashbuckler/2+5 | AC 22 T 16 FF 17 | HP 42/62 NL0| F +5 R +7 W +5 | Init +3| Perc +8

After finishing his shark on a stick, Jim will help with Kaul as much as he can.

Is Jim still fatigued?

In response to the guard, Jim asks, "Witch house? I'd credit that, after what we saw--how long since anyone lived there?"

"Keelhaul" Kaul wrote:
"So you boys comin or are we the spook bait?"

The sergeant frowns at Kaul and shrugs at Jim’s question. “I dunno, you should probably ask someone who lives around here. I think there was an old lady selling herbs and remedies here pretty recently.”

”Spook bait.” Vinari sneers and getting a lantern from the sergeant leads the way. Dolo follows Vinari into the building stooping a little to clear his formidable height augmented by his traditional Bekyar hair sculpture, in this case his hair dyed red and shaped into a pair of inward curving horns.

Inside the interior door remains open and kettle and corpse remain undisturbed in the kitchen. A close inspection of the kitchen however finds that a stone from the floor near the fireplace has been pulled up revealing a small empty hole beneath.

Male Taldan Human Free-Hand Fighter/5 Inspired Blade Swashbuckler/2+5 | AC 22 T 16 FF 17 | HP 42/62 NL0| F +5 R +7 W +5 | Init +3| Perc +8

"Watch out for any more of those flying bloodsuckers--they're what got your buddy. Would've done for me, too, if they'd all hit me at once."

Jim looks back at the rest of the crew. "I don't remember that stone being pulled up. One of you do that while I was squashing bugs?"

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

Spitting to the side Dibbets says"No Jim, don't think that were us"

He also recasts light on his staff and watches the hounds warily.

Male Half Orc Rogue (Thug) 7+5 | HP 70/70 | AC 21/14/NA | F+5, R+9, W+2 | IP 1 | Perc +10 (+11 Freeport), Darkvision 60ft | Init +3 | Move: 30ft. | Status: Bleedin' 3, Rage 2/6 & -4 with Claw arm

Kaul peers over Dibbs and sucks in a involentary gasp at the sight of the stone being moved:

"Ghaa...... Whadi say eh? Eh!? Bad damn ju-ju!

His paw slips up to his scrimshaw symbol at his neck and he whispers a few warding words to the Drowner...

Vinari walks over to the corpse and pulls it away from the wall to check the back. ”Routine around here.” he sniggers. ”Yep. Look at this. I think your spook was probably alive and carrying a sharp knife. “ He points out the blood stain on the wall from a neat stab wound in Goyne’s upper back.

Dolo looks at the hidey hole under the flagstone that has attracted your attention. ”Wonder what was in dere.” As if in reply a faint hissing comes from the glowing skull. ”Lossst...”

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

Dibbets pulls out the skin bag from his flower sack and holds it up for Vinari, "Well this was floatin around last we were here too." before being cut off by the skulls utterance...

Male Human (Chelaxian) Inquisitor of Besmara 6+2 | HP 46/46 | AC 20/Flat 17/Touch 13 | CMD 17/Flat 14 | F+5, R+5, W+8 | IP 0 | Perc +12 | Init +6 | Move: 20ft.

Looking at the corpse, the Groom gives the overturned and dented cauldron a kick. "Blood-bugs did that...after he was a corpse. It was the cauldron that laid out him with the cut-nose, and unless he ran into it head first, the spook did have something to do with it."

After Dolo's question was answered, in a low voice, "Gentlemen..the Spook." the Groom then pulls back the sheet revealing the skull. "You of the Glowing Eyes, what has been lost here?"

Vinari glances at Dibbets’ pride and joy, ”What the- get that away from me, you little freak! That’s disgusting.

In response to the Groom, Vinari continues yapping, ”What? You telling me I don’t know what a knife wound looks like? I think I’ve seen enough of those. Maybe someone bashed him with the cauldron while someone knifed him from… Hey, was that you? That’s you making them noises. Wow, what a bunch of crazies we got here, Dolo.”

Dolo holds up a hand to silence Vinari and watches the Groom handling the glowing skull. The skull responds with a fainter hiss, "boooxxxx…"

Male Half Orc Rogue (Thug) 7+5 | HP 70/70 | AC 21/14/NA | F+5, R+9, W+2 | IP 1 | Perc +10 (+11 Freeport), Darkvision 60ft | Init +3 | Move: 30ft. | Status: Bleedin' 3, Rage 2/6 & -4 with Claw arm

Kaul's eyes narrow at the scene and he nods knowlingly..."Heh. Looks like we know what happened tae the Bloodsalt boy now... nailed Goyne with tha pot and bled him... bugbats did the rest.... I meself would hav used a sap, then Bess but its good bloodwork... Hur-hur-hu..."

Kaul's gloating laugh is cut short by the skull's sudden communication and he steps warily away from its gaze.

Cap'n:

Kaul will try and recollect anything about the big half orc that nodded at him:

Knowledge:Local 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

Kaul:
Aye, now that you put your mind to it, half-orcs tend to notice others of their kind, at least outside of the Bloodsalt. You have seen that bloke around the Docks, one of Scarbelly, the infamous orc pirate’s spawn. You believe he’s a freelancer and pusher who lives on a boat tied up somewhere on the Docks. btw, did you see my note on your big hook in the OOC thread?

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

Grinning with manic wild eyes at Vinari's reaction, Dibbets casts the skin-bag off to the side.

"Why don't you boys talk to bony there, I'll check upstairs to see if anythin else is where it wasn't." he then moves up the stairs and checks the bedroom for any changes.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Male Taldan Human Free-Hand Fighter/5 Inspired Blade Swashbuckler/2+5 | AC 22 T 16 FF 17 | HP 42/62 NL0| F +5 R +7 W +5 | Init +3| Perc +8

After they reach the house, Jim attempts to lean against a wall as unobtrusively as possible while he catches his breath from the walk back.

Are any of the dead bug-bat bodies still around?

Male Human (Chelaxian) Inquisitor of Besmara 6+2 | HP 46/46 | AC 20/Flat 17/Touch 13 | CMD 17/Flat 14 | F+5, R+5, W+8 | IP 0 | Perc +12 | Init +6 | Move: 20ft.

The realization comes to the Groom, he turns the skull to look into its eyes. "So you did not do this? He of the Red Face, killed this one, and ran? But this stone was not moved when we left. Did he come back? or did someone else do this?....Who took your box"

He looks up to the others. "That Wizard Vagrant seemed to think the One called Dibble carried something he did not have. Could that one have returned here, once discovering we did not have what he sought?"

Jim closely watches to make sure that those nasty bug-bats stay dead as Dibbets steps over their battered remains and heads upstairs to find nothing changed since his last visit except perhaps a curtain pushed to the side.

Despite the flurry of questions from the Groom, the hissing sound from the skull fades into something like a sigh. Suddenly in your midst a small presence is felt and with a rustling of wings that you feel more than hear a shadow darts out the front door.

Dolo again draws a spiral over his chest as Vinari looks confused. The red gleam in the skull’s eyes winks out.

Male Taldan Human Free-Hand Fighter/5 Inspired Blade Swashbuckler/2+5 | AC 22 T 16 FF 17 | HP 42/62 NL0| F +5 R +7 W +5 | Init +3| Perc +8

Jim chuckles slightly at Vinari's apparent confusion. "Seems like there's a little more going on here than you might have thought. As long as we're back here, there's something else I want to get a look at."

Jim takes a look at the cauldron, trying to figure out what happened to it and how it got dented. Are there any traces of anything that might have been in the cauldron before it was tipped over? (For that matter, any sign of where the bug-bats came from?)

Seeing the skull animate again, Dingus quickly utters his Detect Magic cantrip, and studies the skull more carefully. Before releasing it, he also scans about the room.

Kaul warily watches everyones movements, then as the skulls eyes fade he recovers his composure and addresses Jim's detective work;

"Jim...I's tellin ye... the half orc... one like me? Know of him and reckon he did fer Goyne... Clocked Goyne with the pot, then as he stumbled he knifed him - quick an nasty like. Clear as chum on the tide that's what happened."

Kaul chuckles to himself at a private joke... "Hur-hur-hur... I should be a flatfoot...hur-hur-hur!"

Cap'n:

Dingus:
Ah, new icon : ) I'll asssume you are taking 10 unless you give me a Spellcraft roll. For that, you find that the skull has a fant aura of divination magic. Other than a couple potions on folks, I don't think there is anything else magic in the room.

Jim:
The cauldron does not have anything inside it. It does appear to have been hurled from the fireplace with great force. The surviving (well fed) bug-bats flew into the room at the entryway of the bulding.

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

Coming down the stairs Dibbets relays "Upstairs don't look like anythin new happened.". He then leans against a wall and takes a swig of grog from one of his flasks while his shipmates continue investigating.

"Aye, you may have the right of it, Kaul. But I'm wondering--looks to me like this pot was thrown hard, not picked up and slammed into someone. We heard the crash upstairs, you remember. An' it happened fast enough that Goyne didn't have a chance to draw, so he had to have his back to th' half-orc...seems to me that seeing someone wind up to throw that pot would be just a mite on the obvious side. I think we're not seeing something, but I don't know what. Dingus, you gettin' anything off the skull? That might be a piece of the answer, and I think I know who might have another piece of it.

"Vinari, Dolo--the fat man said he worked for Finn. Why would Goyne go along with that, if the man was spinning a yarn?"

Vinari thinks a minute and grins, ”Not that it is any of your business, but this block is part of Goyne’s territory. If Mr. Finn had something going on here most likely he was working with Dunbar and Goyne would have been in on it. If that’s true than I’d guess the fat man was one of Trask’s enforcers. We don’t usually work with them much. Doesn’t really explain what you bunch are doing here though. Believe me if I thought any of yous could get the drop on Goyne, I’d gut you now.”

He looks apppraisingly at Dingus. "This quiet guy is kinda suspicious though. You another spell slinging rat like Beedle?"

"Fat man hired us to clear out the building, an' when it all went ass-up we all figured it were best to make sure our side of the tale was heard in case he wanted to pin Goyne's death on us. So we went lookin' for...other folks that work for Finn, an' found you right after Beedle caught up with us. Dingus is right, y'know...that Beedle, he's not much of a spell slinger if he couldn't take down more of us at once.

"Funny thing--he thought you were with us."

Something in Dingus' tone strikes a nerve and Vinari drops his swagger, "Hey, no offense there. I said you guys are OK with me. I don't even have to mention you to Dunbar if you don't want me to. As far as I'm concerned it was ghosts. I’m sure the big guys can figure this all out. Whatever happened here is the fat guy's problem now."

He nods to Dolo as he heads for the door, "I could use a beer. Should we hit Strebeck's?”

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

Piping up from the corner "Maybe the sea salts crusted me ears up, but I don't remember any mention o' this Dunbar and Trask before. Where do they come intae it?"

Vinari laughs nervously, "Dunbar's the head of the Hellhounds and Trask is Mr. Finn's second in command. He runs-"

Dolo butts in,"I tink you say plenty, Vinari. Wait for me outside." Looking at the crew the towering Bekyar adds, "You might not want to ask too many questions. Sometime knowledge is dangerous."

"Assad's seems as good a place as any."

Are there street markings and such? - or any reference in the house such as a name or the like?

street numbers? that's far too organized for Freeport. they usually go by districts and landmarks. There are maybe four named streets, but you're pretty sure you could find this place again at this point. It looks like there was a shingle hanging out front, but it has been removed.

You hear raised voices outside and Dolo strides back in with a curse. He looks at Goyle's body and back at Kaul. "You help me get heem to de temple of Pharasma and maybe I forget where hees blade went to, eh?"

Dolo explains,"Fool Vinari just want to dump Goyne off a dock, but I say man die here good chance come back. So better take heem to de temple."

"We go tru de Drac's End. Not takin' too long. He look about ready for de temple, too." Dolo indicates Jim.

Thanks VC. Will finish up tonight GMT-7, as I am at work.

Hello to the crew. I game with Keelhaul in another PbP here on the boards (The BrambleKnight says hi), so I know we got the beginnings of a great team.

Shiver me timbers if it ain't me old mucker... (Skane says help!)

Agree - am loving my other PbP experience, so hoping this will be just as fun.

I'm on GMT+0 in Scotland but post pretty regularly as the Groom can testify.

Carrying a duffel bag over his shoulder and looking a bit out of place among the more gaudily dressed Freeporters in his plain sailor's tunic and trews, a slender brown-haired man approaches the ship and makes his way up the gangplank, his rolling gait mute testimony to years spent at sea. "James Patterson, present. Thanks for picking me, Cap'n."

GMT-6 here. If you need to reach me outside the boards, my yahoo user name is jbwoodford; email should be obvious from that.

Dingus raises his oddly shaped eyes from the cowl of his hooded robe, and acknowledges the presence of the others with a sharply accented...."Yessssss". "Thissssss ssssshould be fun".

Will work on background tonight hopefully :-)

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

"Heh, well I guess we be a strange sight together, but I suppose the Cap'n must be desperate. Where is the filthy creature? - or is the tiller to tend to itself?"

Howdy one and all, and I am too looking forward to the coming shenanigans. GMT +8 in Malaysia here.

"Oi, stop looking at me flasks - get your own."

All present and accounted for! Stand up straight, you scalliwags! Well, at least you can find your way to the Docks. I'll give you a moment to gather your duffels and we'll get this boat in the water.

I'm at GMT -7, most of the time. Arizona don't play no daylight saving time. Not much in the way of water out here either, but I've worked Alaska's Inside Passage a couple seasons so I'm looking forward to a bit of virtual maritime recreation. I'll let Dingus and the Groom finish up their characters and we'll shove off soon!

Male Human Sorcerer 7, Cleric 1: HP 46/(46); AC-16/14/12; F+5, R+5, W+5/+4. (Spells:3: 6/6, 2:8/8, 1:8/8) IP-17

Hatches are battened, and sails are reefed. Dingus Mack is ready to sail.

Ha! Like I'd let any of you miscreants on my ship! You'll have to prove your worth in salt pork and grog before I'll have any of you aboard!

Opportunity knocks

Have at it.

Is pathfinder guide to Freeport fodder for this game?

Good question. The Pirate's Guide to Freeport would probably be good information although I might use a couple of the Adventure Hooks. I put my own spin on things though, so don't take anything as set in stone. For example, I've tossed out the Sea Lords and have power split between the nominal governorship of the Captain's Council and a couple large underground organizations.

As for the Freeport Companion: PF RPG Ed. that might have some spoilers in the back half.

That said depending on which direction y'all go we may be heading to sea pretty soon anyway. So I would say perhaps avoid them for a level or two to remain totally spoiler free and not confused.

Profile is done. Went with the Inquisitor, haven't played one yet, so that was the draw.

I am at my RL game currently, but will check in on the game thread.

I guess I was asking more about the Crunch....Spells, Feats, Equipment, classes etc...

I guess normal really is all relative. : )

@scranton- I mainly use Freeport for the fluff and I'm not sure everything has been playtested as well as Paizo's crunch, but I'll give that a tentative yes while reserving the right to modify things a little if need be by GM fiat. ; )

That said, I encourage you all to develop your characters as you like and feel free to tweak things as needed through first level. I usually find it takes a level to get my character concept set the way I really wanted it.

Normality is indeed relative... Kaul as you can see is slightly mad hisself... he talks to his sword for one lol.

@ Dibbets - we ain't tall, just seems your closer to the Drowner's Locker than the rest of us... sorto' like an anchor!

joking aside great bunch of characters and cannae wait to see where all this goes...

Speaking of normal...
I have a question for you all. Freeport has a nice little Insanity mechanic. Basically, when exposed to something mind rending you get a save and if failed you gain a couple of Insanity Points. Insanity Points are subtracted from your Wisdom score for determining your modifier for things like skill checks, ability checks and Will saves. However, they are added to your base Wisdom score for everything else (bonus spells, DCs, monk abilities, etc).

The list of things that can inflict Insanity Points on a PC in Freeport is really wide, including all mind affecting spells and any creature beyond humanoids and animals. I think this is too much. Certainly, outsiders and magical beasts and undead are a not uncommon occurrence in Golarion.

If used it would only apply toward possibly fear effects, aberrations, and maybe certain awful deathly horrors. Possibly texts and things relating to the "old cults".

I wasn't planning on bothering with this mechanic, but seeing as all the characters are kind of nutters already, I thought you might be interested. : )

Male Taldan Human Free-Hand Fighter/5 Inspired Blade Swashbuckler/2+5 | AC 22 T 16 FF 17 | HP 42/62 NL0| F +5 R +7 W +5 | Init +3| Perc +8

That could be fun...I can see Jim getting more and more OCD about everything as he takes sanity damage, trying to find security in familiar patterns. (The rest of the PCs, though--if they started going around the bend, how could you tell?) Is there a way to cure insanity in the game, though?

James "Madman Jim" Patterson wrote:

Yep, most of it is short term shock and there are remedies. and again I don't plan on using it extensively, just as flavor now and then. I'm at work now so I'll give more details once I get home to my books tonight.

SO it's initiative time. I've found it works best if the GM just rolls and posts everyone at once rather than first waiting for rolls and then waiting for actions. Are y'all ameniable to that system or would you rather roll your own? I'd just post all the rolls in dicebot and then list order of action.

...but I'll have to wait until I get home to start everything 'rolling' : )

Male Half Orc Rogue (Thug) 7+5 | HP 70/70 | AC 21/14/NA | F+5, R+9, W+2 | IP 1 | Perc +10 (+11 Freeport), Darkvision 60ft | Init +3 | Move: 30ft. | Status: Bleedin' 3, Rage 2/6 & -4 with Claw arm

Aye-aye Cap'n

I'd be definately up for the insanity mechanic being used as n' when required. Sounds like it could make for some interesting moments (and decents into further madness lol). As Jim rightly says how would we know?

Personally think this game will end up best described as "One flew over the Crow's Nest"!

As for initiative - yeah happy having you roll the lot skipper - quicker and cleaner.

For what its worth loving the game - knew no good would come with messing with the skin dress!

Bad ju-ju right enough!

Oh, I love the insanity concept. Hope to use it on foes too. Fear and Intimidation is my primary weapon..(wait, two main weapons are... :p )

DM rolling initiative is preferred.

I just love that there is something this creepy here. the Groom would have been disappointed if he was unnaturally drawn to participate in a dried flower robbery. Ha!

Male Half Orc Rogue (Thug) 7+5 | HP 70/70 | AC 21/14/NA | F+5, R+9, W+2 | IP 1 | Perc +10 (+11 Freeport), Darkvision 60ft | Init +3 | Move: 30ft. | Status: Bleedin' 3, Rage 2/6 & -4 with Claw arm

+ knock on effect is that Kaul will listen to the Groom's forebodings even more acutely!

Will make for some great interplay methinks...

You have no idea : O

flower shops can be kinda creepy. did you ever see 'The Town' or 'Little Shop of Horrors' for that matter?

A Cure for Insanity!

Three way to remove Insanity Points:
1. Restoration spells- easy but spendy.
2. Therapy- -1 Insanity Point/ week of Heal check DC 25
3. MADNESS! burn off points of Insanity with short and long term psychoses.

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

I am all for DM rolled initiative as well as for insanity. Looking forward to getting my first insanity points :)

Dibbets needs some new psychoses! He gets awful lonely up atop the mast for hours on end with naught to talk to but himself.

..... Maybe you should make an exception and curse us with sanity points instead?

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

Normal is boring - I'm a firm believer that everyone needs a bit of crazy to keep them on the level. Its the ones that don't you have to watch out for....

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

Cap'n - just a quick question:

How are we going to handle xp? - will you state values for us to track?, or just tell us when we can level up?

Dibbets wrote:

Dibs- I was just thinking about that. My preference is to just tell everyone when they level, however I know folks like to track progress so I figured I'd just post an xp-o-meter on my profile page to give y'all an idea of how far along you are with the understanding that it is a generalization and not to be used for legal purposes. (standard small print about GMs being slipperier than a vasolined cephalopod).

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

I'm good with DM tracked XP - gives me one less thing to worry about :)

Also lets you pace the narrative however you like as well.

Dingus:
Don’t worry about it. You may feel a little out of place as the least maritime character in the crew, but you’re still a perfect fit for Freeport and this campaign. Let’s just say you were drawn to the house same as the Groom, but for something different that you can’t quite define. Your serpent blood did feel something in the house though and all will eventually be revealed. Hint: It might have something to do with the little black box just mentioned ; )

You know I was trying not to go there with that, but the song has been in my head.

Good Trip Dibbits!

Bon VOY-yagee, mr. Dibbets! I may be in and out over the next several days as well which might let y'all catch your breath : )

seriously though, how's the pace? I have a tendency to push the pace a bit. speed OK or should I slow it up a bit so you have more time to respond?

Personally speaking the pace is spot on Cap'n... Unless I'm out of town I tend to be able to post at least once a day, so a heady pace suits me [well when Kaul is capable of doing anything lol]

Pace is fine. I like quicker compared to slower.

Ok the ring is out there. Seems they don't know the fat man neither, so we need to make a common enemy of him, especially now that his word is not any better than ours.

In a vain attempt to keep our loot let's not be mentioning anything else we skimmed offa "cut nose" or that we lifted from the skinbag's bedroom eh lads?

Have a suspicion these brutes will strip us like devilfish if we give em cause!

I was thinking that the nice rapiers were standard issue for Hell Hounds, so waving one around in town might draw unwanted attention. We'll see how much we can pin on the guards.

Cap'n Voodoo--did Goyne have his sword out, or was it still in its sheath when Kaul was searching his body?

sheathed. poor bastard didn't know what hit him : )

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

Pace is good for me too... I like the fact that we are spread out across timezones as well, seems to help the pacing.

Thanks for the well wishes, trip is good so far. Shopping is nuts, city is more alive than KL, but traffic is a bit saner than Hanoi. How many of you guys have been through the South East of Asia?

Yeah man - I hit Bangkok some 20 years ago as a fresh faced 20 year old enroute to Oz [visiting friends]...

Shopping was crazy indeed, and there are things I saw there that are burned in my memory for better or worse ;)

Crazy place though... got robbed at knifepoint in a stripclub, got in the ring with a Thai boxer... lol all good... character building they call it!

I thought the traffic in Bangkok was insane so hate to think what Hanoi is like!!!

Cap'n has been up and down the west coast of N America from Baja to Anchorage, around the Gulf of Mexico and into central and south America and the Mediterranean. but not Asia, NZ or Aus yet. maybe this winter. :)

Jim:
Sorry, you're fatigued until you recover a point of CON. So a good night's rest or some divine assistance.

Kaul:
Let me look up the hook stats when I get back to civilization. is it a large weapon? 2 handed? also sorry about getting your swag grabbed, but you kinda egged Beedle on by telling him you had his box! ; )

So i'm in the back country this weekend and won't be able to post until sun night or monday.
