"Keelhaul" Kaul |

Kudos to chapter one and you Cap'n - great characters and fantastic atmosphere...
Yeah the floater should be followed up on and some shopping perhaps? [Kaul wants some more weapons...]
We should also try and recon our fellow to-be crew, size em up like...

"Keelhaul" Kaul |

Agreed - we head back to the Borken Mug, tie up loose ends there, then sometime over the week get any gear for the waves and "introduce" ourselves to our shipmates over a grog or three...
[only thing Kaul plans to get is a "boarding axe"(read: greataxe) by the name of "Mara". Hur. Hur.] and anything else someone smarter than me comes up with ;)
Good work Dibbs... saves on the cleaning bills :)

Dibbets |

Back for good again boys - well handled with Finn. I figure that Dibbs probably would have made a arse of himself in the meeting if he could have. Pity I didn't have a chance to force the spittle grip on Finn himself, but I can't argue with Cap'ns reasoning (accent still needs work though :P)
Cap'n - I'd like to be a bit forward thinking and lay down some cash to get a musket commissioned. I won't be able to take the feat to use it till 3rd level, but I figure I could put a downpayment of 200gp or so - then pick it up next time I'm in port?
We could lay down an IC story hook for it when I'm walking around town with Kaul to get his new hammock-mate?
Did Mr Finn intimate the name of our new ship?

Sounds good on the musket, in fact that would be what I suggest as there is only the one gnome gun maker and a long, long waiting list.
Finn didn't say...

"Keelhaul" Kaul |

Dibbs, even if the gnome gun-smith has a long list, oiling the levers with a few extra coins should allow you to jump the order...
Hell I hope it ain't the ship o' the deaders... :S

James "Madman Jim" Patterson |

aye, was making my bleeding heart wince a bit to see the Garundi (did you get the Jol Totra/ Joel Cairo allusion, huh?) referred to as such... maybe just dilute it a bit with some lubbers and the like :)
Will try. I see it as one of Jim's bad habits, to be honest; I'm kind of modeling Taldan attitudes towards the rest of the world off of 19th century Britain's attitudes in our world.

Dibbets |

O Cap'n my Cap'n - I've found a nice little spell in 'Faiths of Balance' that I'd like to swap out for 'Endure Elements' iffin it's to your liking.
Applies only to normal and natural weather, not magical phenomena.
What say ye?

Dibbets |

Cap'n - just respondin to the question asked in the main thread as to why the musket. The pistol has a pretty poor range increment (only 20ft), so I was worried about how useful it's going to be shooting from boat to boat. Figured I'm probably only going to get one shot with it before battle joins and I'd be fairly useless in close encounters as I won't have any shooting feats (Point Blank / Precise / etc).
I suppose I could end up using the musket as a walking stick - barrel up and loaded, just not primed. Might draw a bit of attention dependin on where we are though ;)

James "Madman Jim" Patterson |

In case you're not familiar with the sharp-beaked dove song reference--see here, e.g. Even though Jim isn't a whaler.

nice. i'm thinking I should put together a sailor's songbook for my own amusement.

the Groom |

the Groom will be looking for a Large Repeating Crossbow and 10 cartridges and a potion of Cure Light Wounds (460 gp). Figure that will go well with his intimidation factor that he has going on.

Cap'n Voodoo |

the Groom will be looking for a Large Repeating Crossbow...
??
Large as in Heavy (vs. light) repeating crossbow or
as in LARGE (Giant-sized) repeating crossbow? (heavy or light?)
you getting all anime on me? a LARGE repeater would have a -2 size penalty and a -4 non-proficiency penalty, that is -6 to hit
... a cost x2 list price.

Cap'n Voodoo |

that's what I thought : ) I would have to require that BFG 9000 be carved on the side of the large model. That might not be a bad idea to get one to mount on the ship, but carrying it around probably wouldn't work so well. Also might take two of you just to load it :P
Hmm, the only place I can think of that might put something like that together would be Kolter's Clockworks again. I do think a repeater would be nearly as unique as a firearm.
Are you planning on taking the Exotic Weapon proficiency next level? just wondering if it is something you want immediately or could put off a bit. I'm cool either way and it does look like you are limited in ranged attacks.

the Groom |

Its a class weapon for an Inquisitor. Simple weapons, Deity's weapon, and all bows including hand crossbows and repeaters.
Yeah, with the fighter and the thug, the Groom will probably be more support, rapier if necessary, but more archer support. With not mush strength, a crossbow seems fitting. And with the free proficiency (It surprised me too when I when back to reread what ranged weapons I could use) the repeater just seems cool. Would definitely like it before we set sail if possible.
If it will take awhile, he will get a light crossbow as a temp. for the trip.

Dibbets |

Cap'n - after another reading over of Faiths of Balance, I've found an organisation that seems made for Dibbets.
When can I join up?
I think this would be a more long-term goal for Dibbs, and probably more applicable once he has a few more levels under his small sized belt

James "Madman Jim" Patterson |

Siren's a good name, but I kind of like stealing from Neal Stephenson and calling it Reason. Or inscribing "ultima ratio Reginum"--the Queen's final argument--on it. (And if I knew the Latin for pirate I'd put that in there, too.)

Cap'n Voodoo |

Dibbs- Aye, I just picked up (electronically anyway) a copy yesterday and thought of Dibbets when I saw it. It does say it is more of a tradition so I don't know if there is any real benefit other than perhaps bragging rights and a bigger share of loot and respect. If you think of any concrete benefit let me know. I doubt we'll see any crunch, but I like the idea.
I also thought that maybe your read weather spell could be more of just a fluff ability more like an aching in your leg when a big storm is on the way. again it seems more fluff than of real in game benefit, but whatever you like.
Pirate actually IS Latin- from pirata based on the Greek word for bandit :)

Dibbets |

I ain't after no concrete benefit - just more the camaraderie and respect. Maybe after a couple of runs out to sea I get noticed / approached by a like minded soul. Maybe introduced to a few other drinking buddies and get a tattoo of a pair of albatross wings across my chest.
No real benefits apart from an extra resource to use if we're searchin out info, and a means of getting a filthy, insulting, smelly halfling dressed in rags treated with a bit of respect in sailing circles.
If you'd like to run read weather as a fluff ability, I have no objections. Would make it easier for you as you'd just need to highlight any incoming inclement weather, rather than dictate exactly what is coming for the next 48hrs. I'll leave it as a confirmed spell slot for the moment at any rate.

"Keelhaul" Kaul |

Dibbet's advancement plans all of course hinge on him surviving Kaul's weapon testing of Mara his new havy boarding axe... heheh.
Anyway Dibbs seems to be able to call on wind at any time... there's only so many times he can blame a creeky floorboard or the inn's dog ;)

"Keelhaul" Kaul |

Cap'n Voodoo |

hey I managed to work both those in and no Dibbs in sight.
Kaul- you're vids keep getting yanked, but the Gimp reference may not be too far off :) What is it with you guys and splitting up the party to go find crazed killers? you've been watching too much scooby doo :P
"Keelhaul" Kaul |

Zoinks!
Yeah dunno what's going on with the vids... :S Was thinking the same bout the party! Jimmer's got the right idea, slap up breakfast and civil conversation with a harmless old academic... what could possibly go wrong there!?! (bets on Jimmer ending up _______ [insert possible condition] :)

James "Madman Jim" Patterson |

I think we should rename the ship the Narwhal, because they are so awesome.

Dibbets |

Working them in as we speak, though the UC preview has some things which could be quite interesting as well. *giddy with excitement*
Not that I'm stalking you..... honest....

"Keelhaul" Kaul |

Yeah I know - UC looks to have some very interesting archetypes in there... will probably allow time for any/all UC stuff to be disseminated and used. No rush. Feedback on the traits is appreciated.

"Keelhaul" Kaul |

Cap'n and shipmates - me and Dingus seem to be doing a tag-team with regards holidays.
As of tomorrow I'm off for a week's vacation in Turkey. Chat is the hotel's interwebs is pretty unreliable, so could be I'll be off the grid for the week.
I'll be posting up to tomorrow lunchtime, but after that it could be silent Kaul for 7 days. Know the group will suffer without his keen insight, but am hoping the Cap'n will keep him on a steady course and his usual cantankerous self.
Fingers crossed the hotel will be better equipped than Dingus' but I'm presuming not.
In the meantime I'll be about until tomorrow, but enjoy the coming week lads and try to keep Kaul alive til I get back.
Cheers

Dibbets |

For the ones which give +1 to two or more skills, I'd suggest making it so that two are considered class skills?
Touch of the Frost seems a bit underpowered, especially after you start leveling. Maybe it makes all frost spells also deal an extra 1 damage?

the Groom |

my posting is going to be slim the next two days. Big proposal to finish on Friday at work and a dinner party tonight.
The Groom wasn't planning much besides appeasing our landlord with our progress and trying to get a repeat performance under the docks later tonight.

James "Madman Jim" Patterson |

My posting over the next few days is likewise going to be sparse. Most of what Jim is doing has been taken care of, so he can concentrate on not laughing himself sick when he hears about what Kaul and Dibbets were up to. Seriously, guys, you're killing me.

Cap'n Voodoo |

No worries, guys. I was originally going to be backpacking over the next week, but finally got a temp gig so i'll be hanging around town instead. damn work getting in the way of fun! >:(
Why don't we break for a few days if everyone is pretty busy and we've got a few people off-line anyway? It cetainly won't do me any harm not feeling like I have to compulsively check the computer all the time :)

"Keelhaul" Kaul |

Back from my vacation lads. Was able to read posts but hotel server/interwebs A) Kept dropping out & B) wouldn't allow me to sign in... Was a great holiday and hotel but man Turkey needs to sort out its internets...
Right off to the game thread to get this ship sailing in the right direction again lol...

"Keelhaul" Kaul |

Heh - still astounds me how much hotels can charge for net and yet get it so wrong.
Glad you're back as Bess needs a work out...
I hear yah. Our hotel was 5 star [okay it was Turkey so maybe not really 5 star, but pretty swish none-the-less], everything about it was great - food, bar, gym, pool service, staff etc, etc... expect their net facilities... was like being back 10 years! Slow, dropping out, load times were an age and costly too... bizarre.
Anyways hopefully Bess will introduce herself good an proper to our firebugs... [methinks they are the Groom's mates from the Fin...]

James "Madman Jim" Patterson |

I was thinking they might be bullyboys that Obreck Dallian hired...after all, if we were to suddenly and inconveniently become dead, why, Finn'd have no choice but to let Dallian take all his own people with. Except for Half-Hitch, and everyone knows the sea's a dangerous place. All kinds of things can happen.
