Oh yeah laugh it up now... just wait til Tum Bobo sneaks into your hammocks...

In the word's of Henry Rollins:

See the monkey's eyes...
Look deep into the monkey's eyes as he comes to you smiling.
Day after day the monkey's eyes become bigger and bigger...
Soon the monkey's eyes are all you can see.
Soon the monkey's eyes become your eyes.
You feel the monkey's bite.
Monkey see, monkey do, monkey will destroy you...

BTW - isn't "Wakey, wakey hands off snakey the mantra of Dingus?

Depending on Dingus' spell picks he could do a cover of Peter Gabriel's "Shock the Monkey."

Also I'll be travelling the next week and a half. Should be able to post about every day, but mostly later in the evenings, so don't let me hold things up. If you need to DMPC character feel free to do so to move things along.

Cool. Thanks for the notice. What do you do that you travel so much?

I'm District Manager for a company that manufactures microscopes and precision measurement equipment. Aug - Oct is always my busiest time. That combined with an expanded territory, and new product launch has me busier than usual. Normally only 3-4 nights out a month, but the last few have been crazy.

@ Kaul...LoL. Want a free sample?

@Dingus I'm a Scotsman! We've a genetic eye for the canny bargain, so anything going free is never refused! lol

BTW - this has feck all to do with the game (sortof) but considering my coconut overlord there is a tenuous (but cool) link: The Octopus & The Coconut

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

By 'canny bargain' the Scots generally mean 'forcibly fell of the back of a truck' :P

I see this in Kaul's future if he keeps following the words of Tum Bobo

I was thinking more Billy Witch Doctor.

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

Perhaps thus?

Couldn't see the billy witch doctor vid unfortunately, blocked outside of USA

What, forcibly falling off the back of a truck?

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

Making a play on the fact that the best bargains are those items that 'fell off the back of a truck'; no better way to ensure that the bargain is obtained than 'pushing it off the back of the truck yourself'. Edit - just noticed that you were actually just picking up on my misspelling. You are correct Sir

After all 'A gien cou shoudna be leukit in the mou'

Actually, I missed the hyperlink in "this," so I thought it meant "forcibly falling off the back of a truck."

Credit to the Cap'n as I'm still not sure where Tum Bobo stands on the us and them axis... though methinks that my recent actions won't help his opinion of me ;)

That's OK, he'll just continue passive-aggressively cursing you every night, t'ief and unbeliever. :)

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

Cool - works for me. As far as Dibbs knows in game he hasn't tried anything on him yet, just that he gets a creepy vibe from the little guy.

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

Kaul - hope the mood isn't too dour in bonnie Scotia now that the Argies have knocked off your boys. All you need to do is beat England next week by four tries or more and she'll be right :)

Dibb's I'm a dour realist - didn't think we'd lose as closely lol.

True to form we'll squeak a glorious win next week and still go out, tis the way of things here in the land o' heather and haggis!

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

Just a pity the Argies couldn't get one up on the Poms in their earlier game... such is life.

Anyway, if you beat the Poms that's all that matters for the season innit?

Robe Ninja - new trick. Can shed clothing like a snake sheds its skin... ;)

Agree though now we need a voyage on a Tian junk...

my posts get ninja'ed quite regularly. does that count?

actually Kaul didn't mention his encounter with the Bosun either...

Bosun?

I slipped on the deck and was overpowered by a dozen heavily armed scumbags...

Dingus is not deserting you guys, but at this point with no spells, and being such a liability in physical ways..he's probably better off staying out of the way, and not soaking up the healing. Just wait till I can start slinging fireballs around :-). The only real thing he might be able to do is stand in the mouth of the cave and flash the goblins. :-)

BTW this is the first time I've played a sorcerer. I thought they'd be a little better than a Wizard at early levels, but the limited selection of spells really makes them weaker. If the situation falls into their spell selection they're all good, but it really limits being able to take utility spells at early levels. Not complaining about the game...I really like the characters, and the interactions...just feel like Dingus isn't doing his part right now. I'm sure that will change as he gets higher level. I think that scrolls should probably make up a large part of a Sorcerers arsenal...if we ever get back to where we can buy some.

Anyway...carry on. I'll shoot anything that shows up.

Heheheh - quality ad - never seen that one, as a Scotsman I heartily approve - would be the ultimate response tae that Haka!

I actually think Dingus being limited works at this stage - comes across as a man of mystery who could do more should he need to...

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

That's not a haka, This is a haka.

I prefer the NZ Maori haka (Timatanga) to the Ka mate - though the Kapo o Pango can be pretty good as well.

Dingus- yeah, i've always thought it wasn't so much the limited spells, but the delayed spell level progression. you still have unlimited acid splash and a poison dagger.

anything else that would help you feel like you can contribute more?

Male Halfling Oracle of Gozreh 6

Dingus - casters are on a bit of a slow ebb for the first few levels. Dibbets ain't too much better off, as pretty much all I've got is the cures - and lord knows I need to save those for good ol Kauly there.

Light crossbow / acid loogies are your best bets probably.

If it's a BBEG type enemy, you can always use Intimidate to demoralize to inflict -2 on attacks, saves, etc.

That's a good one, yes. The Ka mate is the one most folks outside of NZ know about, but Kapo o Pongo makes a fine test for whininess on the part of the opposing country. (Hint: If you get uptight about the gesture at the end, you're probably too sensitive to be playing rugby.)

Yeah. I don't mind the tactics of stick and move...but in this case my physical limitations would make it very difficult for me to get to the cave. (Need to roll a 16 or better three times). Utility spells like levitate, or Jump or spider climb make these possible for magic using characters, but they wouldn't necessarily be wise choices for repetitive use spells. Not really complaining, just explaining. I'll pick up some useful scrolls eventually, and fill in those slots. As a sorcerer I don't really need magic weapons or armor, so once I get the wand of MM out of the way, I can start buying scrolls / potions to overcome the weak areas. Now that I've played a sorcerer, I know what I need to do going forward.

As I said for this particular battle it's the fact that I can't get to the battlefield :-)

Carrying a longspear is also a good idea--you can stand behind the meatshields, er, Jim and Kaul, and Aid Another to give one of them +2 to hit or +2 AC vs. a single opponent. Considering what Kaul can dish out with his choppers, adding that +2 to hit for him can be a pretty big deal, especially against creatures w/high ACs.

Aye, alot of it is media beat-up nowadays. Old days used to have dodgier hakas, but blokes were a bit more interested in standing up. There was one year where Sam Scott Young (Wallabies) was blowing kisses and winking through it.... needless to say he came out of the next few rucks with some boot shaped dents in his noggin.

i'm sure you can be pulled along with a line. Eeryone kinda rushed into battle, but once there's a pause you ought to be fished in.

Am impressed with the restraint shown on "spank the monkey" comments tho

nutters all.

Dingus:
Do you think you might prefer to run Erizi in my Katapesh Nights (LoF) campaign? I was just looking over your input in FW's game and you really seemed to have a better feel for that character. I seems to me that you have had a much harder time getting into Dingus' skin. My version of LoF should be sufficiently different that I don't think it will be too much review. Let me know if you think that might be more fun for you.

Cap'n

Spoiler:

What and miss all this fun. Seriously, I like Dingus, and am happy with the game, and the players. I tend to build my characters as I go for the most part, and Dingus's humiliation at being so helpless early in his career, should be the impetus to be more powerful later on. I know when I built the character that it would be third level before he really began to prosper...when his charm person spell will work on animals as well, and his little friend becomes a real benefit... I was really just letting everyone else know why Dingus wasn't participating in this fight. I'll admit there is more physical climbing, and swimming, and jumping than I thought there would be, but he'll adjust and I think you'll really see him come into his own over the next few levels.

Thanks for asking though. Erizi is a fun character, but it takes a certain group to put up with his stubborn social ineptitude. In fairness I had a lot of travel over the last couple of months as well, but after October things slow down. I'm thinking about dropping some of my slower moving games so I can embrace Dingus's coming out of his shell.
