According to the side view of the Horn, there is a staircase that runs from the caverns all the way up to the third floor.

It goes from C-5(s) to 1-27(b) to 2-20(b) to 3-12.

It passes thru the first/second level and end up in the third level, but there's no open passage to the stair. It passes inside the pillars, and there's no door except the secret one in the caves(c5) which give access to the spiral.

the situation is easily solved in case you guys open a door in the room where Rex and Hex keep guard (3-12).
However this design is intentional. No one can access the sanctum from inside the horn, and no one would believe that the entrance to the most sacred place is in the caves. Open a door anywhere in the first/second/third and you’ll give anyone that manages to infiltrate direct access to where you are performing the ritual and that might raises the change of the ritual being disrupted.

This game has been brutal on our various pets and minions. I have a feeling flying out on a nightmare would end up with a horse-shaped pincushion and rose and mysty falling out of the sky.

Well

If you are hundreds of feet’s in the air, mounting a flying horse, then yes, I would target the horse in the attempt to throw you off the saddle (honestly, who wouldn’t?).
However, if you are wading into melee with the nightmare, most of the times the rider is a better target than the horse itself, because it is painful to attack the horse while the rider is delivering punishment, and killing the horse will not stop the rider.

TLDR;

Flying outside range or too high: Horse target.
Melee: Most of the times the rider.

I say this because I believe going out there s a sucker's game, we try to engage and get shot full of arrows and then have to chase them all over the place while we still have two Moondogs lurking around who would be delighted to find out we have left. Plus we are prepped for Moondogs and not forest combat so at least waiting a day to get ready for the elves makes more sense.

I really don't want to get into a long run-and-gun fight with elves in the woods.

Luring them in is a good idea.

If that doesn't work, I think we should do things to keep their attention, and send the other Knot after them. They are pretty well built for woodsy work and stealth.

Well any ideas? I mean we do have our lair that we spent a whole lot of money on to keep out things like the elves.

Yeah, I'd rather not drive them deeper into the woods to team up with those f&%#ing dogs.

We've always done our best with the element of surprise on our side. And given how they just out and out pegged Mysty when she poked her head out, they clearly don't think very highly of us.

Let's use that hubris against them.

In truth, the elves have no reason to enter the horn. Simply harassing us, killing supplyruns and messengers, and shooting the occasional guard would suffice to harm us. The moondogs are also hit and run specialists, especially with that ninth level spell wammie they can hit us with.

Think guerrilla warfare. We advance they retreat, we stop they harrass, we retreat they attack.

Problem with forest fire is that how much magic fire will we have to dump to start one? Plus that is going to be loads of attention(not that the glowing tower of doom helps any) We won't be able to control it unless we try cler cutting/burning an area around the horn

Tar Bomb?

A few of these and the catapult on the garden terrace could start some fires pretty fast. The horn won't burn. It was described as barren if I remember right.

On the one hand, it would lure them out and clear some lookout space around the horn. On the other, it would make it easy for anyone to spot any of us entering or leaving the place.

Don't we have a fully functional achemist lab? I thought we spent a bunch of money to make sure that Nahia's lab was fully stocked.

Also, we have a bunch of stockpiled bones, which render nicely down to glue, and a bunch of oil. I'm going to assume we also have coal for the sand furnace, forge, and probably the alchemist lab too. Coal renders down to tar really fast.

Of course, Rose doesn't know any of that, so it's up to Nahia and Mysty.

So this is my thought.

Hound gets on leather armor and heads down to the caverns via the secret door and gets the boggards to sneak out and try to come up on the elves+snake from behind (Maybe some silencing magic if available?)

Rose,Mysty and Nahia head down to confront the elves and start talking until Hound can get into position and then we attack(Perhaps take some of the more ethically challenged minions with you.)
If someone has a message spell, or maybe Pyros can stick with Hound and Rose keep in touch with him via telepathy and give updates on how things are going.
