These aren't the "organization" minions; these are the random NPCs that run/work in his legal office. He doesn't have enough Leadership score to take any actions with an organization yet, so I'm not worrying about how that will work until he gets to level 8.
Btw, here they are! I usurped the Iconics hard, and I love it!

I seem to be missing something relating to the setting.
Mitra is the deity of choice; nearly everyone worships him, and the other PF gods are outlawed/persecuted/discriminated against, particularly the evil ones and especially Asmodeus. IIRC you mentioned that somewhere in recruitment.
So why would Valence be so quick to assume that the symbol is a ruse? He'll spend the upcoming week delving into the mystery a bit, but I want his actions to reflect someone from the setting, so I want to make sure I have it clear. Is the idea that someone from the Church of Asmodeus would contact him so far beyond the realm of believability that the idea wouldn't enter into his workings? Would he be more likely to suspect the followers of some other deity, hiding behind a more common evil to disguise their...evil?
Or, would it be more likely to him that someone unaffiliated with any religious order, perhaps someone contrary to Mitran law but not necessarily against a religion itself, is using the symbol of the faithful's enemy as an identifiable mark without giving away their true purpose? Because as it stands now, even without metaknowledge that AT is the Cardinal, I feel like Valence's first course of action would be to find some order dedicated to Asmodeus, or at least gather information from those in the criminal society about the possibility of such a cult.
| Hayato Ken |
As far as i understand the setting, there was kind of a crusade. Pretty much everything not Mitran was burned and removed. That was already some time ago (think a Star Wars timescale, where ~30 or even less years later people think jedi are myths). Also, almost all inhabitants there are human. Everyone else stands out or is a clear and probably despised minority.

I found this.
Markadian IV called the Zealot outlawed the faith and unleashed the Inquisition against it. In the Asmodean Purges of the twenty years ago, every temple and high priest of Asmodeus was burned. The Temple of Asmodeus never recovered.
So dad of the current king did it, and enough time ago that an entire human generation has been born in a world without it. But Valence was practicing law then, and very much an adult. That helps a lot.
Human-centric I get; PF's pretty ethnically biased in a lot of areas anyway, we humans tend to take over wherever we go!

@Valence
Well, what I wanted to say is something like this:
When passing the message only to you through a proxy, they used the Asmodeus symbol.
Now, that you are in a public place at the eyes of nobility, they are using a fake emblem.
--
About religion:
Asmodeus Cult is believed to be extinct.
All the others deities if they have any surviving cult, it's hidden and don't openly operate.
The purge happened about between 30 and 20 years ago. The history is not so clear when it started, but all changed when the Victor won the succession war over the Barca House.
--
The one-week time is for you to investigate:
They know you’ll investigate, and they know that connecting the dots, you’ll see there’s someone or something behind all the trouble. The ‘display’ of connections(knowing who you are) and power(sending an outsider), is the luring factor of the invitation.
Edit:

Not the biggest fan of PF being so humanocentric, but certainly not a "furry" either (that seems to be a real thing in the US...).
For a fantasy setting, i would have loved of humans being a good option, but not so centric.
Other races being stronger and more widespread gives somehow a more fantasy feel for me. And if it be elves, halflings, gnomes, dwarves.
More "exotic" stuff would have been cool too though.
That´s one reason i like TianXia, because it´s a bit different over there.

Everything but Halflings I get; they're just "always around," so I'm guessing they're supposed to be some sort of biological or evolutionary quirk. But at least PF handled the "core" races properly; Elves fought Humans pre-Starstone, and probably would have impeded their development more if they hadn't been wimpy and left the planet. Dwarves were busy digging up from underground, and Gnomes were ostensibly off-plane for most of the time. Do I wish there was a greater diversity, yes, but at least they explained it away in the lore a little better, IMO, than earlier editions.
As far as this campaign, I hadn't seen that there DM; I read the house rules, but must have stopped at that spoiler. Thanks, I'll look them over!
And roger on the letter! I'll get his actions up when I get back to a PC.
I do have another question regarding the houserules and combat. If things go the way I planned, he'll be making either Bluff (feint) or Stealth (sniping) checks each round. Sniping only changes the next round, but feinting (once he picks up Improved) will be once a round. For those instances alone, do you want me to roll them for you, or would you still prefer to do that yourself? I can include the sneak attack roll with the action post either way.
| DM Aku |
@Rolls
When in combat, all the rolls are open.
The rolls restrictions applies only to when you are not in combat, because the way I see it, the character has no way of knowing if ‘he rolled a low perception’ or if his ‘sense motive was really high’.
Making the player RP for his choices not knowing his dice results has the effect of creating more interesting scenario and situations.

I´m gonna casually mention at this point, her survival assumed, Bizan is interested in none-core feats.
Namely:
-Fox Form
-Extra Wild Talent
-Shrouded in Mystery
I´ll provide links to sources.
Those "restrictions" are pretty funny. Some of that always bothers me in rl games, where when you have people roll a dice and name a skill, they already get suspicious. Sometimes i do that on purpose^^ Or i let them roll and don´t say what they roll.
I do agree on the rp a lot though.

Even Shelyn,Abadar and Iomadae got kicked out? Sheesh!
One of my favorite things about this AP is that the House of Darius and Mitra are kind of jerks, despite being the good guys. It makes it pretty easy to come up with believable reasons why a villain might want to destroy them.

Not liking human-centric world histories
This is easily why I have always loved pre-4th edition Faerun. Easily one of the most diverse histories to date outside of the wackiness that is Spelljammer.

Don't ignore Tiadora! She is all about love!
In my very first Pathfinder game, I decided it was a wise idea to get physical with a pair of succubi. I learned my lesson in two rounds: whether Tiadora is a demon or not; don't get too friendly with evil outsiders!
Edit: I realize that makes me sound metagamey; I might have been slightly influenced, though I certainly wasn't being lured into an act of passion. But Valence has realized that, as powerful as she may be, she is still minion to Thorn; a minion is a minion, and respect always goes to their Master instead.
| Cecelia Wentworth |
| 1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Alas, poor Tiadora.
I must confess, I haven't exactly been given her a ton of attention either. I think my last post got so long that I just kind of skimmed over her.
Although, I am rather curious what you had planned now for someone making moves on her...*Contemplates possibly suicidal and completely out of character actions*
@Cecilia - +1 for the best spoiler name I've seen so far.
Haha, thanks. I think I am just getting my amusement that everyone else was facing an actual life and death scenario, while we are just like, "Pass the bread rolls?"
| Nahia |
Hey, I tried to get friendly with Tiadora (and everyone else), but she got all professional all of a sudden at the manor, so I backed off. : )

Let me drop the bomb here in discussion:
@Valence and Cecelia
To detail things further, the cardinal will ask you guys to sign a contract.
All other players have signed it and it is an important theme to the game, with several repercussions (for good or bad) in the future.
But that was to be expected: Asmodeus, he who is credited with the penning the contract of creation, the God of Contracts.
I’ll post it in some minutes and then tell me what you think about it.
| Cecelia Wentworth |
Contract shouldn't be too much of an issue for me, because:
a) I have already RP'd Cecelia as drinking Thorn's Kool-aid and not having very high wisdom
b) I get that the writer's main intention with the contract was to ensure that evil PCs play nice.
Speaking of OOC actions, with Nahia's "+2 sexy bonus" and Cecelia's 34D bust, it is a terrible shame that Valence is a gentleman.
Fortunately for the male player's inner perversions (that the wife would certainly find amusing), Harsk is much less refined!
Cecelia's bust is only average and her eyes are up here! However, I suppose her 20 Cha does kind of imply she is far from hard on the eyes...at least now that she is bathing again.
Valence Niels d'Geiger
|
I second Cecelia. Giving Valence a contract will obviously lead to intense scrutiny on his part, but on this side of the screen it's totally cool with me!
PS: Nahia, your avatar seems to have changed overnight...
Valence Niels d'Geiger

Lord Valence and Lady Cecelia skip through the park on this warm, sunny afternoon. A chorus of birds sings a beautiful hymn just for the two as Valence stops, picking a wild and beautiful carnation, which he gingerly places behind his love's ear. The clouds are as white as a sheet, and the couple reclines upon their quilted blanket, enjoying a light lunch of some cheese and wine.
There, that better? xD
| Nahia |
That was some fancy writing. But this (somewhat NSFW language) is probably closer to expected in this game. : )
@Valence Yeah, I change the avatar based on my current disguise. This is my 'true' avatar.

Unacceptable. Needs more bloody revenge.

Unacceptable. Needs more bloody revenge.
They were really dead the whole time?
@Nahia: That last one was pretty. Do you remember what category she's under? I may have to use it on a female character sometime.
@Aku: I thought Asmodeus paid your bills... :P
No worries!
Valence Niels d'Geiger
|
This guy's the iconic magus or something, but I totally didn't know that until later, and totally picture him as Valence...maybe without the obnoxious eyebrows though.
@Hound: Oh that guy! I was fully expecting an 80s wrestler...though that isn't far off!
Valence Niels d'Geiger

I'm looking at Gameplay, and I think; "Wth, Bizan has 83 HP!!?!" And then I remember that they made a Con caster class...
I get to be a squishy one for once! It's a bit amusing though, not being a caster and having one of the lower HP values.
...except poor Mysty, who has less than our minions...
Bizan Ashura
|
Well this class also gets level*hp nonlethal damage which can only be healed through resting everytime it takes burn and uses some abilities.
The hp can melt pretty fast with that^^
So with 9 burn, what is the highest she can take, there´s 63 nl damage of 90 points (because CON goes up a by 2 after 3 burn). That makes for 27hp left. That´s where she probably should be at the moment.
Valence Niels d'Geiger
|
So it's really like a "glass cannon," except that instead of dying, they just pass out.
That's pretty neat. I need to take a better look at the occult stuff.
Valence Niels d'Geiger
|
I wonder if Paizo would ever consider releasing a Belt of Hidden Pouches. Every Vigilante needs a utility belt!
Also, have any of you read UI? I read the class on the d20pfsrd site, but, like the Occult, they usually make more sense in context of their whole book. I'll be getting some store credit in August, and there's so much stuff I don't yet have it's ridiculous; gotta narrow the list somehow! And if y'all wind up at Gen Con, I'll demo the card game for ya!
Bizan Ashura
|
Chances of me being at GenCon are very, very slim since i´m in europe.
If i would be there though, there would be plenty of me gming and hopefully playing with some GMs i wanted to see live for a long time now, as well as some time reserved for checking out the rest of the Con.
Of course it would be nice to meet some people then^^
But that´s a far away in the future if.
I try but i can´t keep up on reading everything Paizo puts out unfortunately. Gotta have a life in between^^
Also not a fan of Batman or other marvel/dc stuff in Pathfinder, sorry.
Valence Niels d'Geiger
|
I'm really not, either. I am a fan of that item, just as an additional and handy storage medium, though! And I only mentioned UI with it, since apparently Pathfinder did want Batman. Magic batman, anyway. As far as I've gathered about it, we could have easily built a Vigilante with exiting classes; switch Valence's first class from Fighter to Inquisitor, and swap out ranks, and that's pretty much what I've got. Unless I'm missing something super special about it. Base divination repellent would cost money, but come on, what's a 1st level Vigilante going to fight, anyway?
"I must save my city from the terrible crime and corrupt government...after I kill these giant sewer rats."
Edit: Also, totally joking about the card game; I fully expect to sit there for my two shifts a day either talking to children not yet ready for Pathfinder, or random MtG stragglers wandering into the Paizo area. Cards only run the first two slots, so I'll have the night to do whatever I might've actually wanted to do. And I'm only doing demos, which I'm pretty sure means "This is the basics of how to play, isn't it fun!," so I'm personally not holding out for a lot of interest.
I could be surprised, though. I'm really hoping I can choose between the RPG boon and the card reward; I'd much rather have the boon, but I'll take what I'm given! (Which is the new Lovecraftian hardcover! That, and the credit, is the real part I'm excited about. Love me some Lovecraft.)
Bizan Ashura

I think the cardgame has some fans. I know some people here playing it and they are serious gamers.
Some people want batman and other stuff yeah. Other wanted Ctulluh. Even the dragon fans and the underwater fans get something.
At least there´s a tiny bit stuff for Kitsune and other interesting races coming in october.
It´s about real time though there´s gonna be something more, deeper and dedicated for Tian Xia!
Besides the batman thing, there´s some good stuff in the intrigue thing.
Valence Niels d'Geiger
|
True, but I'm just doing a demo, not running a game or anything. It seems equivalent to saying, "Go talk about the CRB to get people into the system" rather than "Discuss the changes to Fencing Grace." I wouldn't know what to say to experienced card players.
