Mulluq'Tar Sheptat |

Mulluq is a little more quiet than usual The idea that he was successful in receiving The Inheritor's blessing in helping the poor trapped... person is somewhat baffling. He never thought he could earn even her notice.
As they discuss dealing with the chasm, he offers, "I am a poor climber at best, but I am willing to stand on either side as an anchor to hold any end of the rope. I am willing to be the last across, so that everyone else can better make it over, in case the last man is unable."
Sorry, didn't mention it here (or in Aub's Dark Sun) but this semester has been intensely busy. Sunday's are usually the only reliable time I've had for posting.

Jod Eastwind |

Jod eyes the gap. "I might jump it, but I think I'd be more comfortable with the climbing."
Or someone could use the scale of levitation to rise to the ceiling and handwalk across to the other side...

Kira Valerious |

"The scale I took, that came from Terendelev will allow me to get across. It could be used twice more if I could throw it back across (10ft isn't that far to throw it...). We'd still need to lower our blind friend here down, and back up I expect."

Hannik |

"That sounds good, but Anevia is going to have a hard time bracing herself to do any climbing with a broken leg. She'll need something like that. Horgus, no offense, but are you up for doing a little monkey swinging from a rope to the other side? Not sure how much strength training there is in the life of a successful merchant. Wirra? How can we get her across with her hands bound? Not by giving her the scale, that's for sure."
I was thinking I could just dismiss Ghroth and resummon him on the other side of the chasm since it is so close, but I can't find any rules on a range for summoning the eidolon. It only has the initial 'fluff' line:
A summoner begins play with the ability to summon to his side a powerful outsider called an eidolon.
If I take that as rules then it must be summoned into an adjacent square and this is not an option.

"I've got rope." Sol offers hopefully.
Sols gots lots o' stuff to help climbers: a grappling hook, pitons (10), rope, (small hammer from thieves' tools?)
A couple of us can jump across. We transfer the heavy gear by rope. The rest of the party can jump or climb as they see fit.
Anything of interest at the bottom, on the walls, on the ceiling, on the far side?

![]() |

The rest of the party can jump or climb as they see fit. [/ooc]
Except we have one blind one, one lame one, and one who'd tied up! Hannik has a very good point above! If we were all able bodied this would be a piece of cake.

![]() |

So they employ a rope assisted climb or we hoist them. As long as we have good tie down points for the rope and someone else has rope, it shouldn't be too bad. Just logistics. Did anyone else bring rope?

Kira Valerious |

"This scale may carry a good deal of weight? Perhaps we could string a line across, and use the scale to levitate a big rock for people to sit on. Sort of a mid-air ferry?"
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 Is there a big rock about?

Jod Eastwind |

Jod raises his eyebrows in surprise, "It can do that? Well, that seems like a good idea. I have no idea how to make it work, but someone will still need to get to the other side, right? With a rope?"
He returns to looking for the best path down and is brought up short by a thought, "I can't see down there very well. Are we sure there's not something waiting in the darkness?"
I'm willing to climb down (with aid of a rope would be helpful) and climb up the far side or jump if that's the route we choose.
"Say, that big rock that had you trapped, do you think it would be long enough to bridge the gap?"

Sol sidles next to Kira. "This is a really good idea."
The plan is good.
Sol can drop the dancing lights down the chasm to see what's down there, but I think it's bare rock. Aubrey's made no reply to Sol looking over the edge.

![]() |

Sol sidles next to Kira.
Kira unsheathes her dagger, and takes a step back. She doesn't say anything, but the look on her face has the words "personal space" and "issue" written all over it.
Whoa cowboy, you're standing awfully close to that there edge...

Hannik |

"Wait, it can do what now? Holy hell that sounds useful. Imagine if we had one of her horns or teeth!"
"No point in backtracking with the whole entourage. You guys want to send a handful back for the boulder while the rest wait here? So Kira would have to go to use the scale. I'm fine to hike back, but Ghroth and I are a package. We can't really split up."

Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |

Kira and Mulluq head back and find the large slab of rock. Using the scale, they manage to make it float. It resists, having plenty of inertia, but they are able to get it going and nudge it back towards the tunnel and chasm. Stopping it again is a bit of a struggle, but soon it it there, waiting patiently for its first passengers, hovering about a foot off the ground.
The mongrelfolk look a bit askance at their proposed cross-chasm conveyance. "Um, after you," says Lann.

Sol lays a hand on the rock and experimentally pushes down while grinning widely. He slaps the side of the rock twice in approbation.
"It's not as stylish as a flying cartpet, but this will work. I'll go first too!"
How many and how much gear can go at a time?

Kira Valerious |

"It's probably safest to do this a couple of people at a time. We should also tie a rope to the rock if we can, so we can make sure it doesn't crash into walls or anything."
Kira will come over last with Wirra, we should probably have a sighted/able bodied person along with all of disabled ones, and should ferry a couple of the group first, then the NPCs, then the last of the group. Do we need to be more specific about marching order than that Aubs?

![]() |

I was thinking tie a rope, stick some people on with another rope. Give it a push and use the rope to stop it at the other side. Once first people are over, tie other rope on, and we can then just use the ropes to pull across and back. Anyone with a high int want to suggest that?

Jod Eastwind |

"If the paladin and I are on opposite sides, I think we should be able to move it back and forth as long as the magic lasts. Mulluq, do you wish to lead or follow?" I assume he will feel it necessary to go first.

Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |

With judicious use of pitons and ropes, the aerial stone platform is lashed and ready to use. Rhok clambers on, grips the pitons and receives a shove. The platform slowly floats across the chasm before being brought to a stop with the ropes. Rhok climbs off (and is promptly eaten by the monster hiding on the other side - no, just kidding) and the platform is hauled back to pick up its next passenger, Sol.
With all of the members of the group, it takes a while to get everyone across. Horgus complains loudly, but nevertheless the prospect of being left behind concentrates his mind. Both Aravashnial and Anevia need help getting on and off, but they both make it, as do the mongrelfolk once they overcome their suspicion. Soon, everyone is on the far side of the crevasse, the tunnel leading onwards towards the mongrelfolk village.
150xp each.
Lann stops after a couple of hundred yards. "Up ahead is a cavern we do not usually enter. It has become the lair of a monster, a spore-cougher. Alone, we three could not defeat it, but with all of you it should be no problem."

![]() |

Sol's eyes turn instantly to Mulluq, mutely urging the tiefling to pass on the exciting once in a lifetime opportunity. But Sol already knows what Mulluq is going to say.
I think we have 1250 XP after the floating rock ferry.

Jod Eastwind |

1383 xp here - I had missed the 133 for Wirra, so I matched Sol. Not sure where I would have missed another 450 xp to match Rhok.
Gesturing at significant wounds that he still carries, Jod asks, "What does a spore-cougher do? As my cousin says, we have not been enjoying a stroll on the prairie down here."

Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |

"The creature is a type of fungus-monster. It has gives off spores in a cloud and when it strikes. The spores take root in the flesh and, if you breathe them in, you see things that are not there. But there are..." - Lann counts swiftly - "... thirteen of us, so I am confident would should be able to kill it without losing anyone."
Knowledge (Nature) or (Dungeoneering), DC 15:
"Shall we go ahead?"

Kira Valerious |

Damnit the providor of my VM that has my little wiki on it is having issues, so I can't get at it at the moment. I have the definitive XP list on there there.
"Yes, we would need more information before we know if we could help. Some of us can still fight, but we will all need rest at your villiage before we move on if we fight another fight."

Hannik |

"Sounds like one from what they said. I've never heard of anything like that. What about you Aravashnial?"
"Ok- so we stay back and fill it up with arrows. We've got bows, crossbows, a sling, and more people than a city guard patrol. Should be fine. It's one mushroom! I'll armor up Ghroth before we go in and he can shred it if we need a plan B."

Jod Eastwind |

"If there is no one to keep it from approaching, it will just pursue the archers. Is it possible the spores would harm Ghroth less? Or I saw hunters do this once against a mammoth - they had two groups of archers. One would fire at the animal until it chased them and they would flee while the second group fired at it. Maybe we can do that?"
