By the way, I've been thinking about giving Lo'j the same BAB progression as a fighter. His auras are nice and all, but not incredibly powerful, and a martial character would be expected to be good in combat along with fighters. Any thoughts or comments?

Go Dravite!
This must be one of the strangest scenes ever - the dwarf hanging from the legs of a flying dog, pulling it down so his friends can get to it. It's like something right out of Baron von Münchhausen!
BTW - I dunno about DR and grappling damage, but DR does not stop falling or drowning damage or that sort of "natural" damage. Perhaps grappling falls under that as well?

Grappling damage is considered "unarmed" damage - it is essentially the same as punching it. DR would apply. A monk with the various ki strikes could bypass it with his grapple the same as with his fists.

I also believe that creatures with DR can overcome like DR with natural attacks, like Heathy whooping on a wherewoof would overcome it's DR with his natural attacks.
Dravite wasn't really trying to beat it up anyway, just hold it down so it could be smacked around a bit easier.I love this game!

OK, referencing my post above, I've decided that Lo'j should have the same HD and BAB as a fighter. In hp terms, that will give him an extra 2 hp at first level and an extra hp at second and third level (and rolling a d10 thereafter). Everyone OK with that?

How DARE you!!!!
Yup, fine with me also. Have you figured out how to keep Gurney viable(survivable)? I thought maybe just throw the dog a bone and give out +1 BAB and +1 HD for every 2 levels that Lo'j gains, kinda like the dog is progressing along also. He may still need to retire at higher levels but for now he is at least able to be there if not in the frontline. Maybe when he gets additional feats you could toss some evasion his way or something to help keep him alive.![](/WebObjects/Frameworks/Ajax.framework/WebServerResources/wait30.gif)

Lo'j has the feat (from the WotC website, referenced back in this thread somewhere) where Gurney is treated (basically) like an animal companion and scales up in power with the character.
Cool.

Oops, I though you had more hp. Ah well, so do you want to roll up a new one (my preferred option)?
I don't know.....I kinda didn't get to do what I wanted with Dravite. His shtick was large creature/giant killing and he never did it. I feel like I want to still try it out. Not sure what to do yet. Gotta game tonight so I'll try to think about it for tomorrow.

Indeed.
All we need to do is convince Hudak to take a few hits for Dravite, and we're in the clear...

I went to the bookstore; looked at that 4e.
I was blah...on the Monster Manual; nothing new. Not even all the ORIGINAL Monster Manual servings. Meh...
Looked at the demons, didn't see succubi (devils now--duuh).
I'd tap the succubus picture chick, but she wasn't all that.
Saw "mezzodemon," pooped in my britches a little bit.
IDK; there'll be a class, then there's all these powers 1/day, 1/encounter, whatever; I'm meh on the whole thing.
I thought I liked warlock; I don't even like warlock.
The alignments are meh...
I liked them dragon dudes; they look snarky. That's about it.
I guess to me, it looks like all the exact same shit but not as much as the original 3 PHB/DMG/MM so you can't even run with just those three;
so unless the system's so eggregiously great, there's no real reason to rebuy all that stuff, the first module sounds like a total waste of time and money, and so I'll stick with 3.5/3.x/whatever.

Haven't looked at it. It could be the best system since ... 3.5, but I'm in no hurry to try it. 3.5 works fine for me, PFRPG looks like it might be better (with the bonus of being compatible).
Mind you Heath, the succubus in the 3.5 MM wasn't all that either. I mean you'd tap that, but I don't know if she'd be worth losing levels over...

I've given up looking at the 4ed threads, so I don't really know what the new system's like - having said that, I had no real problems with 3.5. I don't find grappling confusing, I don't think the fighter's underpowered etc. Also, I actually like setting up the wizard's spell lists - sometimes you miss, but that's the price you pay for having such a flexible class.
If what I've heard is right, level 1 PCs now pack much more of a punch, but the monsters are similarly tougher. I don't really see how that's an improvement. I also don't care for the different mechanics for PCs and NPCs. All in all, 4ed is a product I see no need for and which I have no interest in.

Assuming this dog is the same as the ones above (probably, though I don’t think this one is flying?) … I don’t know. We didn’t use fire against the other ones, and I failed my knowledge check. If it is a lower planes based outsider, then immunity or resistance to fire seems likely though.

Was I out of order in that discussion with Kirth Gersen and the mechanics of the assassination scene in Crimson Throne? He seemed to get incredibly defensive, but my (initial) comments were really just observations about what he described about his style of play. He niggled me in the end, but even so - he seemed to massively lose his cool from the start.
