Didya' get it yet?
No - my rage grows by the hour. I'll have to go on a random killing spree if this goes on much longer.
Actually, Fakey, could you do me a favour? Could you read the section on the Pathfinder Institute (or whatever it is called) and post here about what it is, and maybe some ideas for what the players might actually know about it, or even if/how they might be involved? Obviously, if that section is chocked full of spoilers, stop reading! Cheers.

I will try. I have a bunch of running this morning but I will see if I can print it out and bring it with me.

The Pathfinders are a group of adventurer/explorers who plumb the ruins of the world. They are part archeologist, part historian, and part adventurer. They are part of a semi-secret society that basically go to ruins, explore them documenting what they encounter there (strange beasts, interesting traps, make maps, any unique items of mundane or magical nature). These documents, once the trip is done, are sent to a "venture-captain" who is like the local manager of the Pathfinder Organization. He checks the writings for accuracy (usually with Divinations) and forwards it upwards in the ranks of the Organization until it reaches the main Chapter House in Absalom, which may publish the findings for distribution to the lesser chapter houses.
Most major cities have a chapter house, usually a secretive location, like an underground lair, a manor house, or a decommissioned temple. They each have a library of of the written exploits, at least one set of the Pathfinder Cronicles, and various maps, historic treatise, and beastiary catalogs. These locales usually have rooms available for traveling Pathfinder members to stay and some have a small trove of magic items provided by the Decemvirate (think a 10 member secret council of rulers of the organization, like the Lords of Waterdeep) to be provided to agents asked to perform specific tasks by the council. Usually Pathfinder agents act on their own accord, though, so Council orders are rare.
Duties as a Pathfinder Agent.
Explore the world.
Report findings in a fairly detailed and accurate manner (some agents bring bards with them to cronicle their adventures), this reports will be checked for accuracy by divination somewhere in the travels to the Main Lodge in Absalom.
Cooperate with other member. There are no moral obligations in the Society (i.e. no alignment restrictions). Agents are expected to respect other agent's claims and stay out of each other's way unless offering assistance. Tradition dictates that Pathfinders must attempt to parley with other members before a potential conflict, regardless of a mutual emnity, political motivation, or other factors (like I am good you are evil. I will kill you stuff.) The one exception to this is the Lodges. There is never any conflict allowed in the Lodges regardless of reason. Good, evil, Chelaxian, Andorian, it doesn't matter, no fighting amongst members in the Lodge.
Sometime rogue agents will manufacture accidents in the field to steal another's claim, gaining great wealth but if the Decemvirate or a Lodge leader finds out, other agents may be sent to eliminate the Rogue Agent.
They also have some details on a few of the larger lodges and how they operate. Some of the Pathfinder Volumes are detailed a bit. Nothing that looks like a spoiler or anything, but very interesting.
So basically they are a world-wide adventurer's guild with some benefits and drawbacks for members.
I would like my PC to be a member and I could just change his backstory slightly to make his Ranger mentor a member who has educated him on the order and made him a member.
The whole party could also be members and that would give us a good way to join together, have adventure motivation, and gives the DM a way to keep things rolling.
You have my report.

I think it is entirely optional if you want to join. I'm sure it won't impact massively, more likely give me as DM something to hang the plot on. As low level PCs it is unlikely you will be core member anyway.
I'll take their gold....of course.

Thank you, that is my read as well... that makes that feat a lot more attractive to me now

Not big on the whole "joining" thinger much.
They aren't really a "lets have meetings and discuss politics" type of organization, they are more of a "do what you want, how you want, without moral dictates, give some info on mysterious areas and be able to take advantage of our library of info on all things from locations, creatures, and histories, and enjoy free lodging" type of organization.
This isn't the Harpers.

Hee-hee. They never said they want anything just info on old ruins and history. You can loot whatever you wish, they don't care. They aren't National Geographic either. The organization justs want info on past history and archeology, in return you get to use their vast wealth of knowledge in many areas, and have a safe haven to recoup from the trials of looting some ancient tomb or whatever.
Win/win I say.

Yeah, that sounds pretty cool. Vethran would be willing to go along simply because it will get him away from society for awhile and let him learn new magics and gain power.

I would not be opposed to becoming a member, but I have developed a good "outsider" template for now. Having someplace to belong just doesn't sit right.
Finding someplace to belong though... now there is organic growth.
Somewhat with Lo'j on this one. But being (or wanting to be) a member of the Pathfinders may give the somewhat-bigoted-when-it-comes-to-humans Elisile a good reason for joining this human-centric adventuring group.

I really would not worry if you don't want to join. It is not compulsory. If you all joined, it would be weird, frankly.
Probably, only it gives you (and us) a really simple "in" for the adventure. "So, the Pathfinder Organisation sends you all to Sandpoint to..."
Still, I'm sure you can come up with something more creative than that.
Hey, somewhat sucky about non US customers getting the PDF so much later. I'm sure you're champing at the bit to get it, and for more reason than just getting this pbp going - but on that note, as a player, I'm cool with however long it takes for you to get it, read it, digest it before we start. If we need to wait another week or two, that's cool.

Somewhat - I'll be asking Fatey what the opening encounter is soon, just so we can get going. With any luck, I'll get it by the weekend. So I'll get a chance to read it in a reasonably leisurely fashion and be ready for Monday. Here's hoping...

If you don't have by tomorrow night, we will figure something out. I will send you an email with the pertenant info in it.

Don't worry - I can't believe they have so many overseas customers that it will take them that long to sent them out. And I wouldn't want to ruin your enjoyment by getting you to read the adventure. I shall have to maintain my current Zen-like calm.

Yeah, I am trying to avoid that. I could just scan the first couple pages and send them. Is that illegal? I ain't really giving you anything you haven't paid for.

Well, it's Wednesday today - let's decide on Friday.
No problem. Let me know. If I can just scan in the first couple pages to send then I don't have to worry about reading it and spoiling the surprises.
I can't wait! This is gonna be cool. Also just a note on my PC, he will definately be a Pathfinder Agent.

I don't really imagine Illes being a pathfinder. Not at this point anyway. He's more hoping to wrap up this whole affair and get back home. Vethran joining probably elicited a lot of eye rolling, head shaking, and arguments that weren't good enough. Or really all of that probably further encouraged Vethran to join.
This being a Paizo adventure path I'd be willing to bet that it offers more than just that one affiliation. Maybe there will be one that better suits my character.

Yeah, I kinda like that idea. Vethran heard about an organization of people who get paid to venture into old ruins and learn powerful and ancient secrets. He'd be all about that, especially since his cousin seems to think it's a bad idea.

Let's wait until this evening (my time) before we decide what to do. I must confess, this is a pretty crap situation. I know I am being unreasonable, but Paizo are busy pissing away my goodwill. They have never been very good at despatching stuff - five days or so before something get's posted to me after the order is placed seems to be the norm. I could handle it when it was the odd order. But to pass the overseas subscriptions through the same process seems the height of folly. It doesn't help to find out the priority in which the orders are handled is based on some arcane formula no one really understands anymore but which seems to consider me, for reasons unknown, a very low priority (thanks, guys!). So I have no idea if it is pending, or if there has been a c0ck-up and my order is lost. There is nothing like uncertainly to breed fear and anger (to paraphrase a Star Trek movie poster, IIRC).
As you can tell, I am grumpy about this.
And to cap it all, the website is on go-slow.
