Hmm. Random thought; how much cooperation is there between the law on different worlds?

If someone knew a refugee from the law and offered them a job as spaceship helper and then took that spaceship elsewhere, what are the odds that the police on other worlds would care?


Barely any cooperation really. Heck the different city states even within Asana (the lashunta continent of Castrovel) don't have much cooperation between each other which is why Ralkawi wants to get to one of them to escape Qabarat authority. She wouldn't even need to get to another world to do what you're suggesting. She's small fry and no one would expend diplomatic effort to try and get her back from one of the many other lashunta city states. It's why Detective Mosai basically gave up on finding Dr.Solstrani as soon as he found out she was no longer in Qabarat.

The Stewards are the only interplanetary police force and they're very very careful and constrained about how they operate. They're very far removed from this level of thing.

Hahaha yeah Leila took the jump jet. I thought Cueta took the brown forcefield? As soon as someone says they're going to take an item I remove it from the group loot list and I assume they put it on their equipment list, so someone took it.

Bad part is we're not exactly swimming in credits compared to how much level 5-6 gear costs (3-4k at least for weapons and armor). A new weapon would be nice, P-4 is still using lvl1 laser rifle.

If I understood correctly, selling old gear & loot gives only 10% of the value. So not much coming from there either...

Hrm,, you know I havne't been actually keeping track of WBL and I don't really have the system mastery to fudge it around too much. Starfinder isn't a scrounge and sell game like Pathfinder is so it may by you guys haven't been getting as much hard currency as you really should be as I do know gear upgrades are very important to the game.

Can you guys give me an update of what you're carrying around and how much it's worth if possible? I think Cueta has been getting pretty lucky with the standard drops as she's the only melee person.

From what I can see the total amount of cash you guys have is 10459 or so.

One thing you guys will definitely need to shop for is upgrading the Sunrise Maiden. It's Tier 5 now, just like you! 135 BP total

If we are keeping Tahomen's money we will have 11659 credits to spend. Astrianna and Leila are still wearing lvl 1 armor and need upgrades badly. So let's prioritize that and a new laser rifle for Prospero. I'll put together a list of Astrianna's purchases and sell off some of our stuff tonight.

We have 800 UPBs for ship upgrades. Leila and Prospero seem to understand the ship stuff the most so I'll leave it to them to decide on ship upgrades unless I see something cool and whine about it until I get it (just to stay in character).


UPBs are not for ship upgrades, they're for crafting personal items and are traded 1 to 1 with credits.

Damn, that crystal is nice, a free Mk1 upgrade? If Astri had known what it was when she picked it up she would have immediately used it on herself without telling anyone (because she's that kind of person). Considering how we can all use it, shall we roll off for it? We could also just go ahead and spend the cash for the other 3 to get Mk1 upgrades, I think they're 2,000 credits? Leila, a "common" restaurant meal costs 3 credits. So 1000 credits should be plenty to get Ralkawi off to a great start. I'd be fine with 1000 or 500.

A search into teh internets showed that others have had some issues (or at least puzzlement) with the AP's monies. Starfinder character economy just works so differently from Pathfinder so it might be a matter of getting used to. I understood that the dev's idea was to have the characters use the loot they find - which is good in a way (in Pathfinder I find it a bit annoying that everyone chooses their weapon of choice at first level, and sticks with that no matter what loot they find)

But on the other hand, a character might spend most of his credits to a weapon (or armor, or thingie), and then find exactly the same item in the next encounter ("losing" 90% of the credits used).

But I think I should just get rid of WBL thinking and enjoy cool gadgets...

So I was thinking about getting Corona Laser rifle, but is 1d8->2d6 damage upgrade worth 4650 credits? (se,e WBL thinking surfacing again...)
Then again, Battle Harness powered armor would something cool and new altogether for 3450.
And synaptic accelerators for +1 DEX bonus for 1400

So maybe the latter two for 4850 credits

Starfinder has a lot of cool toys to play with so you guys should have fun with that stuff I feel. That and alien races feel like the most fleshed out portions of the system.

But still it manages to have a robust inclusion of magic as well. It's quite well done I think.

What do you guys think about the system?

@Guns - Personally I feel that it is more useful to have a small array of low level guns to properly bypass DR then spending thousands of credits on getting +3 damage.

However! Once we start dealing with Weapon Fusions/Seals that probably changes a bit. If I understood it right most of them need a minimum weapon level to work properly.

@Stat Boost Item - I think we should probably try and get one for everyone. They seem really useful for the price!

@Gear for Leila - I've thought a bit on it and there's basically two options. The reasonable one and grabbing the same armour as Astri (plus the stat booster) and be done with that.

The unreasonable idea is just to buy a bunch of neat junk instead ^^

The following are on Leila's wishlist:

Zipstick - think we can afford this one!

Solar Sheeting - battery recharge. Maybe we can buy this one in a few levels for convenience?

Falcon Boots - walking on walls! Probably not worth the price really but ... walking on walls!

Resilient Jacket - this one we should probably get everyone one of. It's cheap and a reroll on Fortitude might save you from annoying poisons! It would have been awesome to have this for our jungle trek really...

And then one of the following:

Brigh's Bolt, Rubber Duck of Debugging or Animistic Tools. They're all neat in their own way. The last one is probably the neatest : )

@Starfinder in general - It's still a bit weird. Some things are nice, some are not.

The economy feels just as weird as most sci-fi games I've played! (So this pistol is more expensive that three spaceships?!)


Starfinder's kinda side stepped the spaceship vs personal item economy problem by refusing to even give a conversion between starship Build Points and credits.

As for my opinions on Starfinder in general- it's good mechanically, Ijust have a hard time getting into the sci fi part. I don't know why, maybe I'm just used to fantasy and change is scary, but roleplaying in a sci fi setting just isn't as fun for me unfortunately. I'm glad I tried it and I'm getting to play with you all, but I doubt I will do another starfinder game after this one.

Cueta purchased a MK1 upgrade with her starting cash, but can always take another one. She can put another upgrade towards a different stat, right?

I'd love to get Cueta different armor and/or other melee weapons, but I'm happy to see what Cueta can pull off of corpses as the game goes on. She's kind of cheap anyways. It was painful for her to spend the credits on her duster, and it just got ruined anyways :/

I quite like the SF ruleset, though I haven't figured out all of the nuances yet. I also think the setting is fun. I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would have.

@Cueta. Sorry You can only have one MK1 Upgrade, one Mk2 upgrade, and one mk3 upgrade. Starfinder's much tighter than Pathfinder on bonuses.

@Astrianna: The theming is very different and does make the RP very different. I think maybe a bit of the problem might be that this AP does not allow for building a strong relationship with a place or NPCs. I do what I can but this is very much a planet of the week type of story. Did you perhaps enjoy Book One's Absalom Station focused shenanigans better?

In any case there's enough Pathfinder around to fill a lifetime of gaming and I'm glad you're devoting some of you time to this game!

Suggestion - we should get an excel (or google sheets more likely) doc for the ship to calculate things like BP cost and power consumption.

Then we could just play around with it a bit until we are happy and then move those stats into our campaign reference : )


There are a few very good fan made starfinder starship calculator sheets out there that you can google for. It should make making choices easier.

So here's a quick idea I made with this ship builder. You can copy everything in the JSON spoiler and import it and play around with it yourselves if you want : )

This is basically just the old maiden with a few upgrades. Bigger main gun, better armour and the computer gives a bonus to 4 checks - so one for everyone! I think our shield is slightly over-sized but they looked very cheap ... :P

There's also 5BP not accounted for so we could upgrade something more. (Or go in a completely different direction of course!)

Note: I just went with the options the builder offered, haven't double checked if they are legal or not. Just assumed the builder would do that. So if you see something weird ... : )

Another thing to note; since we are going for deep space pursuit (maybe?) a better drift engine might be justified. But they were expensive and would require more fiddling. So I didn't upgrade that one :P

Might be better to try and get it in there somehow but I don't have the energy for that tonight sadly!

Yeah seriously thank you Leila! I don't know anything about the ship stuff but I can take a look at my book tonight and see if there's anything Astri would want to spend 5 BP on.

So if Cueta already has a MK1 upgrade I'll go ahead and take off Leila's so she can use the crystal. That leaves us with 3,444 credits if anyone wants to make another purchase.

Updating Astri's stats and then will post when able.

Wow, that's great! I don't understand ships enough yet to have much input, so the new Maiden sounds good as is to me.

I played around with the shipbuilder but couldn't get the JSON to import?

Was I missing something obvious?

There's something wrong with the JSON as it doesn't do anything in the shipbuilder. I tried one of the sample ships (copy JSON, clear, paste JSON) and it worked fine. Maybe something happened when copy-pasting to the paizo boards?

So! I figured out what was wrong; Paizo is helpfully adding " " in places. Or maybe it's the ctrl+c that does that?

Anyhow! Here's how that's fixable:

Step 1) Ctrl+C JSON textblock

Step 2) Open Notepad

Step 3) Ctrl+V the JSON into notepad

Step 4) Open the Replace command*

Step 5) Type " ", aka a simple space, into the find part

Step 6) Put nothing in the replace part

Step 7) Run the Replace function!

Step 8) Copy the JSON from Notepad

Step 9) Paste it into the ship builder : )

*It might be called Find and Replace or something, not sure. I'm sure you'll figure it out : )
