Listen, I don't want to hold us back... the scroll writing can wait until we get back. I'll just switch up my spell line-up a little.
I think Tristan's idea of going by Bokken's for some additional potions would be a good idea though.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

OK, let me know when you have a consensus on what you're doing.

Sasha Yezhov |

Maybe we should consider a wand of scorching ray for Nariel?
At the very least some vials of acid and alchemist's flame.

Arianna Wending |

Talking about what magic items we'll eventually get is pointless for now since there's no way to get them at the moment. I can craft alchemical items but that takes days without interruption. I agree with seeing Bokken although there's no guarantee he'll have anything he's willing to sell us.
Nariel could make at least one Scroll on the road. The magic item crafting rules say that by using time on the road where you're on watch, taking a break, and making and breaking camp, you can work on magic items and net 2 hours of work. The rules also say that to craft a scroll or potion with a base value of 200gp or less, takes only two hours. Anything more than that takes 8 hours. A Scroll of Invisibility at CL 3rd has a base cost of 150gp.

Narièl Laeric |

Perfect, good point Arianna. As for the evocation fire based wands, it's probably something worth considering, though Flaming Sphere might be a better choice since Scorching Ray requires an attack roll. Even though it's a touch spell, firing into melee is always dicey (pun intended)
So are we agreed the, Bokken's and then the Troll issue?

Tristan Aislin |

I'd also like to acquire a combat spell wand for Tristan at some point. Burning hands or something of that sort. He's mobile and can survive close contact with the enemy (for a little while at least), might as well make sure he's usually got the means to cause some harm.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Arianna - thanks for that, I always mess up the crafting times for smaller items. You are of course right, which means that the scrolls can be scribed on the road.
(What you can't do is combine downtime and kingdom-building)
In that case the itinerary looks like
1 Arodus (today): kingdom building
2 Arodus: go find Bokken
3 Arodus: go see trolls
4-9 Arodus: finish kingdom building for this month
10 Arodus: ????
I'll proceed on that basis.

Narièl Laeric |

Just a heads up, I'll be unable to post for a few days; go ahead and bot Nariel if need be.

Narièl Laeric |

Think I'll hit them with a web right off the bat, make them struggle to come to use while we buff up?

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Sounds like more of a plan than anyone else has come up with ;)

Aivar Kurisyl |

Question: is the mithral full plate masterwork? I remember full plate armor always being masterwork in 3.5 (?), but I don't think that's the case for PF. The only reason it matters is whether it gives an additional -1 ACP or not.
And yes, that sounds about right. Let them come to us, use what crowd control we have to reduce the number of active enemy combatants, and focus them down one at a time. Hey, wait, are we playing WoW classic? :o

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Mithral armour is always masterwork, just like adamantine heavy flails :)

Aivar Kurisyl |

Ah, check. I take it the MW bonus is already taken into the mithral's -ACP thingie.

Raquel Cailean |

Since we didn't come up with the plan to web the enemies and let them come to us until after my post, is it too late to retcon my action to cast bless instead?

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Raquel, yes, that's fine.
Tristan has until I get to my computer (about 30 minutes) to post his action for this round or he misses out.

Tristan Aislin |

I had been essentially unavailable Friday/Saturday/Sunday for the last couple of months (working a Renaissance Festival), but that is over now and I should be able to post a bit more and more regularly. And hopefully have the time again to go back to writing dumb songs for us.

Narièl Laeric |

Nariel, I think you have misread the rules on web: "These masses must be anchored to two or more solid and diametrically opposed points or else the web collapses upon itself and disappears." I will let you anchor a smaller web between the two points of rock at the mine entrance, which will catch a few of thems, but in future you will need to read your spell descriptions more carefully.
Oh snap, my apologies! We've been in an enclosed space for the past several battles, so I completely forgot about it.
On other news, I'm going to summon up some fire elementals to help out.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

I'm out of town this weekend so the next update probably won't be until Monday.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

OK, back now. Post up shortly.
EDIT: oof. Tristan's satire ability just saved Arianna's life

Tristan Aislin |

I use my power of ridicule... defensively.
Is it safe to assume Tristan would have a vial of alchemist's fire? We didn't divy them up exactly. Want to be sure of all my options given what looks like a rough fight.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

With great lampoon comes great responsibility...
I'm assuming you divided up the alchemist fire so that everyone took at least one. Have at it

Arianna Wending |

This is where my overconfidence gets me...

Narièl Laeric |

By the way, if green dies from burn this round, the fire elemental will skirt around turquoise trolls threat zone and engage from behind to open a flanking opportunity for Aivar.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

@Nariel: if you look under the GM screen*, I rolled the reflex save and applied the burn damage already. If you want to query things that I may have forgotten (like Tristan's satire, although I actually remembered it this time, go me!) then just post in the discussion thread - don't try to apply retroactively in your gameplay post as it just complicates things :)
*I don't generally encourage this, but if you are in doubt as to whether I applied a bonus/penalty/save/whatever then you can take a look
@Raquel: could you put the DC save for your Adoration ability into your stat-line? I can never remember it when I need it.

Aivar Kurisyl |

This ain't looking pretty! Don't feel bad if you're considering whether retreating is the right choice here or not, because honestly, I think we need some major dice variance to go our way here or we're screwed.
(We're screwed)

Raquel Cailean |

Fleeing isn't an option while Arianna is down.
Unless, of course, everybody else goes down, in which case Raquel will GTFO. :)
Trolls are bad for you. Especially when they ace their Will saves. :P
@Wastrel, added the adoration DC.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

KM is designed so it's basically one-fight-per-day: not so much a 15-minute adventuring day as a 15-round adventuring day (if that).
The fights are scaled accordingly. This is difficult but not impossible.

Narièl Laeric |

Sorry, I thought that was your roll for how many rounds it lasted since it lasts 1d4 rounds. My bad :(

Aivar Kurisyl |

Ah, that explains a thing or two. No wonder playing a paladin feels so powerful in this particular campaign: you can quite literally go nova with your smite, LoH and single spell and not worry too much about the repercussions.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

You're right, I did forget to roll for how many rounds it lasts. Since it's now dead though it doesn't matter that much, but I will remember for subsequent rounds :)

Raquel Cailean |

Not impossible by any means. It's just that the dice have been favoring the baddies so far. Also, with some more warning, we could have buffed up a bit beforehand. I've got a few shields of faith burning holes in my pockets. :)
We should start sending invisible scouts ahead.

Tristan Aislin |

At least with enemies like this, if we have to retreat and try again tomorrow they probably aren't smart enough to prepare for our return too much. :D

Aivar Kurisyl |

I can't vroom :(

Narièl Laeric |

Can't wait 'til we hit level five... then Nariel will be able to swoosh away XD

Raquel Cailean |

I will be on vacation from work from October 12 - October 21. My posting will be sporadic over this time frame, but I will try to check in when I can. GM, please bot me as necessary.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Waiting on Sasha/Tristan
(Arianna is excused from posting for now)
(Arianna is entitled to be annoyed with her companions for not being able to post)

Arianna Wending |

Oh don't worry about me, I'm just trying to decide whether my next character should be Arianna's little sister, or little brother, or a Terry Pratchett character. Decisions, decisions.

Raquel Cailean |

Sorry, I didn't want to bring Arianna up with just a few HP when trollhounds are standing over her. That would just make her a target and a lucky critical could kill her. :(

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Yes, all in all a sensible tactical decision. I'm just enjoying the moment to create a little tension :)
Arianna - which TP character did you have in mind?

Arianna Wending |

Well, I don't want to say it outright, but
Vimes. I was thinking of Vimes. The Warden is commander of the watch, a copper. I've really put that one aside, earlier this week I was amusing myself by statting Vimes as a Fighter, but while he's be fun for kingdom building he is not an adventurer. Even if it was just a character inspired by Vimes, just wouldn't feel right.

Narièl Laeric |

Well, let's not start planning a post-Arianna world just yet XD
The Trolls are both nicely messed up by Raquel's spell, and the Trollhounds near her have both sustained significant damage, and the yellow one is presently engaged with a fire elemental (might even be dead now after taking a hit and possibly lighting up with Burn for even more fire damage). For either to attempt a coup de grace, they would trigger AoO from the elemental and worse, from Aivar who tends to hits things like a freight train.
Maybe Tristan ought to disengage and take out the pink trollhound though, just to be safe? It's pretty injured at this point, and could probably be put down by Tristan with a good hit. If either or both purple and orange fail their will save, they'll be blinded and likely stunned for at least a round and possibly longer.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

As a heads-up, I'm not one of those DMs who takes a particular delight in killing my PCs. Most things won't use a CdG, especially when there's an active combat still going on.
Only the most ruthless of the villains in this campaign (such as [CENSORED]) would run Arianna through at this point; and you're a ways off from facing them anyway.
@Arianna - good call. Vimes is one of the favourites of my TP characters. Some of his quotes are truly memorable.

Aivar Kurisyl |

That's good to know. One thing about playing at a table with friends is that you roughly know what to expect from both the DM and the other players - establishing a 'what's what' when playing PbP certainly doesn't hurt the game :)

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Blech. Forgot Tristan's satire last round. It doesn't affect the trollhounds, but it does mean that the troll missed Aivar with all attacks.
I'll recalculate hit points in my next post.
