This makes me sad, but I understand. Not being able to commit, seeing a game literally pass you by ... it's a real mood killer.
Thank you for all the fun RPG we got to share and who knows, maybe we'll run into one another again on these forums!

Narièl Laeric |

Sad news to hear, but totally understandable Sasha... life gets busy sometimes. I'll be sorry to see you depart, but at least we had the fun of gaming with you for a good long while there.
Good luck, and take care of yourself!

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Sasha - sorry to see you go, it's been fun having you in the game.

Raquel Cailean |

I will be out of town without internet access from Saturday 2/29 until Friday 3/6. It may take me until the following Monday to catch up on everything.
GM, please bot me as necessary.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Hey guys
Sorry for the delay - this game is still very much live and I will post this weekend for sure, and try to do better at posting more regularly thereafter.
I'm assuming we are good to continue with the 5 of you and not recruit a replacement for Sasha, but if you have strong feelings on the matter then speak up and make yourself known.

Aivar Kurisyl |

I do think that five players should be fine. If anything, it is easier to balance encounters for a group of four or five as the action economy makes or breaks combat.
However, if someone knows a player who would be a great fit for our game I would be totally okay with giving him or her a shot. I know Kingmaker games seem to be very sought after on these forums :)

Narièl Laeric |

I do have one friend who joined the boards in the last year that is always lookout for good games to join; he's a very reliable player who would make anything we ask of him in order to play in a high quality game like this one.
That being said, I'd be fine to proceed with just the five of us if that is the consensus. If we were to add a sixth, the one thing I feel we've perhaps been lacking in during this adventure series is a character with some nature skills (the total absence of animal handling after the worg attack comes immediately to mind). In that vein, I'd be in favor of some kind of Ranger, giving us some tracking/survival/wilderness/stealth skills in addition to some more front-line melee capability, and range attacks where applicable. Food for thought in any event.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

I will bear that in mind, but I think the main thing at the moment is to try and keep the game moving. We can consider recruitment once we're back up and running smoothly.

Tristan Aislin |

Happy to continue with five - still a sizable group. Maybe turn Sasha into an NPC and have her continue as Spymaster?

Narièl Laeric |

Maybe turn Sasha into an NPC and have her continue as Spymaster?
I was thinking the same thing.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

You guys are up to post in gameplay

Narièl Laeric |

I say we head back west to Brigid, hand over the shrooms, ask her about the shears, and then head back north. Once back, we should really tackle the (pending?) issue of the Soothscale kobolds.
That works for me.

Narièl Laeric |

I'm out for a few days, will post on Sunday

Tristan Aislin |

Looks like the plague has indeed spread beyond Mivon. Hope everybody is safe and relatively stable!

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Busy! I work in virology & vaccines - it's normally nothing like as interesting as it sounds. Right now, it's a little too interesting.
I'm still here but posting opportunities are scarce right now.

Narièl Laeric |

Yikes Wastrel, sounds like things might be a little heavy for you right now!

Decimus Observet |

Narièl Laeric |

Oh no... well, rest well and take care of yourself Wastrel. You would know better than any of us about how pernicious this virus is, given your line of work. Here is hoping for a speedy recovery for you.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

So. That was moderately unpleasant.
Hope you are all still here and good to continue? Apologies for absence!

Narièl Laeric |

No apology necessary, glad to hear your okay. Good to go when you and the others are!
Incidentally Wastrel, I've started my own Kingmaker Campaign with my regular table top group using Pathfinder 2E rules... and I have shamelessly stolen some of your NPC intrigue ideas, hope you don't mind!

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Glad to hear it - imitation is the highest form of flattery! Let me know how it goes.
I will get us up and running again today.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

And we're up and running again! Hope the story is worth the wait.

Sasha Yezhov |

Hey, guys. I spoke with WW about coming back and continuing play with Sasha. Ironically, it turns out that being stuck at home for weeks made me re-prioritize the things I do for fun.
He's cool with it, but I wanted to make sure you were too.

Aivar Kurisyl |

Of course! It would be super to have you back.

Narièl Laeric |

Absolutely, welcome back! Honestly, it's like you never really left.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Hi all
The bad news is that I've had to drop the games I'm playing in due to lack of time. The good news is that what time I have left is now going into the games I'm running.
I will endeavour to get a post up this evening.

Narièl Laeric |

I am sorry to hear that you've had to scale back on your PbP time; that said, I am very glad to hear you've decided to keep on with this game, as it has been a most enjoyable adventure thus far!

Narièl Laeric |

Ugh, how did we miss that? No matter, not an insurmountable problem, but it will lead to some unrest. If it becomes necessary, we could spend money from our own assets to bolster the treasury at a rate of 4K to 1 BP, though I think only during the income phase. What we will need to do is spend a turn doing very modest expansion to a farm hex like J1 so we can recoup our gold and rebuild the treasury, or perhaps nothing at all. If the income roll is insufficient, we should consider a re-roll perhaps.
Thoughts?

Narièl Laeric |

So if I'm reading the rules correctly, our unrest will increase by 2 if the we go into negative spending. That makes sense, since it likely represents shortages of things people have come to expect... ie. you can't pay the local Sheriffs budget, so they reduce staff leading to fewer lawmen to patrol the streets.
We reduce that unrest with a successful stability check, so we'll need to pay attention to that. Once we fill out the treasury again, through an economy check and possibly from our own funds if necessary, we can avoid this problem in the future. Lesson learned!

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Nariel, that's my understanding too and I will move us into Kingdom Turn 5 on that basis.

Aivar Kurisyl |

It's funny that the KM rules work that way, what with actual lords always doing everything using IOUs and other people's money :'D but it makes sense to do it this way in a game.
So with 6 BP remaining, I guess we should avoid spending it on another building for now. I'm not sure if we should go out and explore in the hopes of finding gold and valuables so that we can trade them in for BP, because I have the feeling that - barring a string of bad kingdom rolls - our treasury should stabilize over time. Getting the necessary gear for everyone (a magic weapon, decent armor, a cloak of resistance, a stat boosting item, and perhaps some quality of life camping+traveling items) seems more prudent than translating that wealth into BP.

Sasha Yezhov |

If we want, during the current Edict Phase, Sasha could shift her Spymaster bonus into Stability. It would give Arianna a bonus to reduce Unrest, if I'm understanding the rules correctly.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

OK - we'll do that unless someone disagrees with the plan.

Aivar Kurisyl |

That works for me!

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Need you guys to tell me which hex you're claiming for farmland and which square you want to put the housing in

Narièl Laeric |

If we want, during the current Edict Phase, Sasha could shift her Spymaster bonus into Stability. It would give Arianna a bonus to reduce Unrest, if I'm understanding the rules correctly.
That's a good idea, we could use the extra focus on stability right now. As to the hex, I'd argue for J2. We can finally link up with Oleg's, having a straight road path from our town to the outpost and the main road with Brevoy.
As for housing, I had originally imagined zoning the city into residential and commercial. As such, any of the squares in the top left (1, 7, 13) would make good sites for new housing.

Aivar Kurisyl |

I trust your judgment. I'm not sure if we have the BP to put down a road in the new farm tile, but we can always do that later.

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Nariel: remember that some commercial buildings need to be adjacent to a house (or two). Leaving blank squares beside each house to fill in later is sensible.

Narièl Laeric |

True, good point. Been awhile since I looked at the Kingdom building rules. Maybe space 20 then?

Wandering GM Wastrel |

Done!
Right: is there any particular RP/stuff you guys want to do in Thornhold, or are you off back out to go exploring - and if so, where?

Raquel Cailean |

Unless there are any more leads regarding the strange midwives, Raquel is ready to explore again. I suppose the far southwest portions of the map are the only places we haven't been yet?

Aivar Kurisyl |

We might want to sow some seeds with regards to acquiring cold iron weapons and or the ability to have such weaponry made by our own smiths.
Aivar will also want to have a personal one-on-one meeting with some of his advisors so that they can speak their minds. There's a lot going on, and he needs to keep a tab on things. Karinna, Jhod, and Yuri come to mind. Karinna, to see if we can keep our promise to Restov and deliver on the mines, and because it is good to share some time with someone who 'gets' you'. Shelynites, am I right? Jhod has a good feel for what's going on in the community and perhaps the priest has something useful to add to how to best deal with a possible showdown with fey creatures. Yuri might appreciate a one-on-one, just so that he feels more involved. It also won't hurt to show him that both he and his job matter to the Mark. Aivar might want to avoid Eva, but something tells me that that won't be possible. Obviously, he's afraid that what with the big shoes he's wearing he might stumble and trip ;)
And whatever we do next, I say keep it relatively brief and if possible, close to town. Winter is coming, and we'd be in deep trouble if something were to happen at home. Travel will be arduous and it will be impossible to quickly return home in the case of an emergency.
