GM Infinity |

Pindleton, you extract an odd little winged figurine. After cleaning it up a little, it seems to be made of jade and diamond. If you had to make a wild guess, you'd probably think it had some religious, rather than artistic, purpose.
Up top
The four wings of the tower are completely open on this level, forming one great, cross-shaped chamber with arched ceilings. The decayed remnants of a carpet run from the doorways at the end of each wing, meeting in the center, where a spiral staircase drops out of sight below. A large, throne-like chair stands in the middle of the eastern wing next to a big chest, and a huge albino crocodile.
Beyond the throne, gazing into the approaching night or perhaps the city in the distance, is the slender figure of a troglodyte.

Gloriana Beesunn |

Gloriana moves a few feet to her right, keeping her eyes on the albino crocodile and the lone trog. Cursing herself for not having her bow ready, she glances at her companions...specifically those with missile fire, either mundane or magical, and whispers, Light him up!
After a round of missile fire, Gloriana will charge the trog and attack with her longsword.
LongSword Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 171d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

GM Infinity |

Odan: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Sohar: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Pindleton: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Gloriana: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Seth: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Croc and Trog: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Round One:::::
Odan <--UP
Croc and Trog
Sohar, Pindleton, Seth
Gloriana
Gloriana I'll interpret that as a delay until the end of this first round. Note the throne gives him half cover from missile attacks.
The troglodyte turns, a full moon rising on the horizon. The light seems to echo on his silvery skin, and faint magenta runes can be seen.

GM Infinity |

True, sorry just had a brief moment to check boards at lunch earlier
The javelin whizzes by the troglodyte, who turns and squints in your direction. He pulls at thin air, seemingly manipulating the moonlight, drawing it into thin strands. The strands lash out at a nearby chest, ripping its top apart in splinters, out from which burst 1000 tiny silver spiders...
Swarm added to map on same init
The white crocodile snaps out at Odan as he approaches...
Croc Bite: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Dmg: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 + auto grapple, escape DC 12
...its 3 inch teeth finding a new home in the folds of Odan's armor, locking on hard.
All PCs up

Pindleton Montague IV |

Pindleton steps a little to the side both to spread the group out and see about getting a cleaner shot at the troglodyte. First, however, he takes advantage of the croc’s focus on chewing on Odan and sneak attacks!
Shortbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9 Or not...
Damage: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 4) + 3 = 11

Seth Kairos |

Eldritch blast to the trog: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 111d10 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 - In the unlikely case I hit, the blast would the trog would be push 10 ft away

![]() |

Sohar begins chanting as he runs up, releasing a spell in front of the spider swarm with a thunderous noise.
Cast Thunderwave(DC:13): A wave of thunderous foree sweeps out from you. Each creature in a 15-foot cube originating from you must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 2d8 thunder damage and is pushed 10 feet away from you. On a sueeessful save, the creature takes half as mueh damage and isn't pushed. In addition, unsecured objects that are completely within the area of effeet are automatically pushed 10 feet away from you by the spell's effect, and the spell emits a thunderous boom audible out to 300 feet.
Thunderwave: 2d8 ⇒ (5, 3) = 8

GM Infinity |

Sorry to slow this down even more, but Sohar, as you are placed currently on the map, your AoE does not include the troglodyte and it does include Odan. Just want to make sure that's intended. I drew the border for a 15 ft radius. You can center that on any grid intersection adjacent to your token.

GM Infinity |

Just a split second before Sohar's spell takes effect, the floor on the eastern side of the tower gives way! Nearly instantaneously, a thundercrack bellows hard out into the night.
Swarm Save: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (1) + 0 = 1
Croc Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Trog Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
As they begin to fall with every stone dropping one by one to the ground far below, the spider swarm is blown hard by the force of the thunderwave into the also falling wall.
This is kind of weird and cool, the floor gave way due to a scripted weight being present, and at the same time there is this huge thunderous explosion. Everyone on the east side is falling as that portion of the tower collapses, see red line on map...
Odan and Sohar, you get a reflex save DC 15 for each floor. First success is what you fall to. Roll 4 checks: floor 4, 3, 2, ground. Between each floor is 15 ft, for a total of 60 all the way down.
Trog Ref: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Trog Ref: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Trog Ref: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Trog Ref: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Croc Ref: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (2) + 0 = 2
Croc Ref: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (4) + 0 = 4
Croc Ref: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (13) + 0 = 13
Croc Ref: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (7) + 0 = 7
The nimble troglodyte catches himself down on the fourth floor by a hand. The crocodile falls all the way to the ground far below...
Croc Fall Dmg: 6d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 4, 6, 2, 5) = 25
...and bursts like a ballon in an explosion of blood.
Gloriana, your ready now fires. I assume you want to change your action. Also, we will probably need to theater of the mind the rest of this fight due to the difference heights. Summary, croc splatters, trog hanging on 15 ft below, spider swarm and nearly every stone blown far away.

Seth Kairos |

I guess I'll go after gloriana, but in case she can't kill the trog
Seth points to trog using his index and middle finger and says
Bang!
Eldritch blast: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 231d10 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 - He would get pushed 10 ft away.

![]() |

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
3rd floor it is. And Sohar thinks his spell is super-powerful. ;)

Odan Shan |

Con Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
4 damage.
May get advantage on the Dex saves for Danger Sense.
Dex Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 41d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Dex Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 61d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Dex Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 111d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Dex Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 121d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
If Danger Sense works, then that's 5d6 damage. Otherwise it's 6d6.
5d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 6, 3, 6) = 27
Extra d6?: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Even if Danger Sense works, that's enough damage to bring Odan to negative in his hit points, which is instant death.

Odan Shan |

All inspiration does is grant advantage, and I'd already have advantage from danger sense. It's ok. PCs die sometimes.
Just in case: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
See? He's destined to die. Lol

Seth Kairos |

I think this is the first pbp death I've seen

Odan Shan |

I had a PC die in an AL game (pbp) I was running last winter. Pretty rare, but it happens. Sometimes the dice don't like you.
Although, this is the first pc death I've seen from excessive damage.

Gloriana Beesunn |

Is it possible for Gloriana to leap for Odan and try to grab him to keep him from falling? She is quite dexterous and strong; it's possible she could latch onto him and hold them both. If so, she'll use Action Surge and run and leap for the dwarf, while also trying to grab hold of something.
If not, that's cool > just thought of it and figured, what the hell? :)

GM Infinity |

Gloriana slides across the stones atop the tower, her and Odan's hands just inches away before he falls.
Seth's energetic stream squarely knocks the troglodyte in the face, pushing him far off the side of the tower.
Fall Dmg 45 ft: 4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 4, 1) = 13
He gets crushed far below on the rocky plains, before the moon has fully risen.
Those left standing have taken the tower.

Gloriana Beesunn |

NOOOOOOO!!!!
Gloriana cries as Odan slips away from her, just out of reach, and falls to his death. She clenches her teeth, breathing heavily, just staring at him.
Do you think he might still be alive? she asks her companions.
Sohar! Can you tell from where you are?

Seth Kairos |

Seth barely know these people, but Odan's Fall make him feel very unsettled. Seth look away unable to answer to Gloariana. He puts his hand inside his pockets to hide from the others the fact that they are trembling.

GM Infinity |

Balenor, the captive bard from earlier carefully makes his way to the edge to inspect the scene. "Gods, you've done it...but what a terrible price. I suppose the Historian's League wasted a fortune on this place, and nothing to show for it but the death of a great man." he gazes below for a few moments. "I say we raise the banner of his clan over this place." nodding to a large stone flagpole currently barren of symbol.

Pindleton Montague IV |

Pindleton becomes quite somber and agrees to with raising Odan's clan banner over the tower. He had approached this as his first exciting trip out of the dusty stacks of the library and into actual field research. Such adventures sounded so exciting, and those who lost their lives were heroes to be honored. But helping to recover Odan's body, Pindleton realized the real sacrifices those explorers made, and the brutal reality out here away from the safety of his books.
Perhaps somewhere out here there was a means of bringing Odan back. If it took years or if it was never possible it all, Pindleton hoped Odan was celebrating with his ancestors at least.

Seth Kairos |

Seth remains quite, not really knowing what to say. He didn't knew Odan, like at all. But everything was going so well and then dead came so suddenly.
