I'll mention most of mine starting Friday (since honestly I think we should probably hold off on even this thread in favor of the Top 32), but I want to call out one I liked that I think disappeared in the cull: the battlevoice token.

I actually didn't copy it down, since it grew on me as I voted more, so I don't remember it exactly, but I don't think it actually had any stated mechanical effect the way most items do. It created a massive illusion of yourself and let you be heard up to a mile away, but there weren't really any rules involved in the presentation. That said, I felt like it was a really neat item and I was curious how people would end up using it. Since I'm sure people would find some really cool things for it.

It feels good to finally see someone mention my item. I was starting to think it had been DQ'ed for some reason. And Clouds saying it survived the cull is great.

Meh, I made the cull, that counts for something.

I'd be one of those on both accounts.

Actually, I don't think it would be cheating. More like I don't want to say it because I don't want, "Yeah, that was okay" or no response at all.

I liked the paper messenger too.

See, I know I made a camping item, so I figure I'll get slammed for that, albeit with flowery invective and flowing prose.

While I liked the cubes, I thought they needed too much GM work to use. Items shouldn't take that much work to use in game.

While I understand the problem of having 15 (or in the case of alternate Cubes, 21) results that the GM needs to prepare for, I was willing to deal with it because of two factors. First, the process was straightforward so after a single "Loading Screen" time, the monster block was available and usable. And second, if a GM is going to put the Cubes into a game, the work could be done off camera. Now you have 15 extra monsters to use in a game, and a single wondrous item explains them. So while it's an initial investment of time up front, the payoff of having created a spiderape or rhinoceraptor is well worth it.

Yeah the paper messenger was cool and one of my favorites.

Dedicated Voter Season 6

Thanks for the paper messenger love everyone. :) There's a lot I'd like to say, but I'm going to wait until Friday. I had been planning on waiting until then before mentioning it, but...since I didn't see it at all during voting I was so psyched to see someone mentioned it that I couldn't help but squee a little.

And Cheapy, since it was my item, I can PM it to you when I get home tonight if you'd like. Or, if anyone saved it, you're more than welcome to do so.

I also really liked the witchfrost heart. It had a creep factor, but I thought it was quite tasteful and it resonated with me for some reason.

I saw the battlevoice token multiple times, and several after the cull, so you definitely made it at least that far. I thought it was a neat item.

I didn't save a copy of the discordant cur, and I don't want to mess up in explaining it, so hopefully it shows up in the critique thread.

Hm...other items that I enjoyed that I haven't seen mentioned...

I had a certain affection for the "makes a house" item that was a gingerbread house. ...I don't remember the name and my notes are at home. I didn't feel like it was Superstar, exactly, but it was kinda cute yet sinister and I could see using it as a GM/throwing it into a fairy tale themed game.

I really wish I'd taken more/better notes because things are starting to run together more and more as time goes by.

I agree, and I upvoted that item a lot.

One "silly" item that I just loved and loved was the Amulet of Sense-Knocking. I knew it wasn't a contender for top 32 but I usually voted for it anyway.

There was also an obi (I think?) whose loose ends would keep fighting your enemy when you're paralyzed, such as by a ghoul. I thought that item did a great job of finding and filling a niche.

One item I kind of liked was a puzzle cube that summoned creatures whose power level depended on the results of a skill check made to "solve" the puzzle. My item had a similar mechanic, where you made a skill check to use it. I like this notion of expanding what qualifies as "use-based" activation. But I wasn't sure if people would go for a skill check as the activation method.

Ah, well done, Karkon. Like I said, it really grew on me (no pun intended). I hope you'll post it in the critique thread. Like I said, I think players could probably find some really neat things to do with it, but it probably just needed a touch more mechanical oomph (again, that's just from memory, which is part of why I want to see it again).

Ariax, I think that was the sticky cloak, which also was a neat item, I thought.

Girl, I'll PM you the discordant cur.

The charger boots were also neat.

Mikko, I liked your heart, though I think it got caught up in the mass of blood items for me. I suspect that hurt it a bit.

+1 for that. (Actually, +2 if I'm counting my sibling's item, which I also really enjoyed.) But I'll refrain from mentioning itat the moment unless someone else brings it up.

Otherwise, my three favorites made the top 32, so I'll give quick shoutouts to three more I loved: the synergistic extract of haunts (turn yourself blind, mute, or handless in order to see, diplomicize, and grapple with haunts), the elixir of last will (fall below 0hp, your spirit gets to reach out and twist fate with -2 circumstances while your body lies bleeding) and the handwraps of unerring flows (monks turn misses into a dance that boosts up their next attacks). All ingenious and joyful. I'll save further discussions for the Critique thread.

Mikko, the witchfrost heart was fun and elegant. It's one of the few that I read and instantly put into my top 32.

Oh, and someone asked about the discordant cur: it was a metal sphere that turns into a yapping clockwork dog whose annoying noises disrupt mental commands (like from a domination). If you whack it, it shuts up and goes back to being a sphere.

My biggest difficulty with the amulet of sense-knocking was that it had an extremely similar concept to last year's clockwork conscience (which I adored, for the record). If Clark had forseen this punny, punny title, he might've cut Mr. Ross a little bit more slack on the naming. :P

And I guess I'll post my top 32 list as well, since people seem to be ignoring the judges' request to wait a few days until commenting on items that didn't make the top 32. :D Besides, I spent too much time voting, worrying, waiting and stressing in the past few weeks that I need a break from the forums, so I better post this now so I won't forget. It's actually top 17 because I'm very picky. There were more items I liked, of course, but I couldn't remember their names afterwards so they didn't make my list.

Blackbriar's Boots
Cloak of Entangled Escape
Cloudwrangler's Gloves
Conspirator's Candle
Ethersnare Dust
Forceful Fingertips
Frozen Quartz
Ghost Ship Binnacle
Gloves, Tree Frog's
Gorum's Stompers <- I actually mixed up the names of this item and Boots of Earthshaking, so the latter item was originally on my list, but once the top 32 was announced I realized it was the Stompers I had been thinking about. Boots of Earthshaking were also pretty good.
Intransingent Belt
Quicksand Cloak
Seer's Soap
Shrieking Talisman of Expectorant Curses
Skipping Stone
Stolen Tears of the Winter Witch
Witchwood Comb

So, 9 out of 17 of my top picks made the top 32. Is my Superstar sense keen or what!?!

(Nb. A friend of mine designed the Gloves of the Frugal Healer, but I didn't include it on my list for the same reason I didn't include my own item, Witchfrost Heart: too much bias.)

Dedicated Voter Season 6

Shame my item didn't make it in, but one I liked that didn't make it in, was the chewing gum one. Multple flavors and effects, and just cool.

Oh, yeah, that was definitely a contender for my top item list. In fact, not only was it not gross, it somehow managed to make blood swirling inside ice sound... pretty. Good one, Mikko!

Funny enough, there seemed to be a lot of icy and/or witchy themed items this year. i found myself wondering if it was some sort of mental pre-prep for the Reign of Winter AP- almost all of them felt like they could fit in Irrisen quite nicely. And, for the most part, they were all quite good. (The witchwood comb was the only one of those that made it to the show, but I'd also like to give a shout out to the... winter's clutch, I think? It was a nasty little purse you filled with bone meal and then unleashed a mini blizzard on the local area when you opened it. Said blizzard also gave a boost to doing witchy stuff in the vicinity.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16 , Marathon Voter Season 6, Marathon Voter Season 7, Marathon Voter Season 8, Dedicated Voter Season 9 aka motteditor

I forget the name of that one, Sean, but I remember it. I thought it felt VERY Irrisen to me. I liked it, but I wonder if the bone meal threw some people off. (I suspect it would have thrown me off had I not read the Irrisen entry in Cities of Golarion.)

Along the Irrisen line, I also quite liked the [/i]stolen tears of the winter witch[/i].

I did like the patchwork cat. Definitely made my "keep" folder. It was one of the creepy items that kept the cool factor, rather than simply ranging into the "total gross-out" range.

Pretty much all the winter-themed items were fairly sound. I don't know that they were all Superstar, but I don't think I disliked any of them.

Two items with simple-but-cool ideas that I thought had a shot:

I have no list, so the names elude me. But...

I had a great moment reading the cloak which allowed halflings to float into the air and become shadowy, sinister and villany - all just to boost their ego! Tons of love.

I also miss the set of acupuncture needles that used the heal skill to do all sorts of cool stuff. The heal skill could use a boost.

I also reserve a special place in my heart for the triple jump sandals I believe it was. Hop, skip, JUMP! So simple and elegant.

Boots of the caper.

Marathon Voter Season 6, Marathon Voter Season 7, Star Voter Season 8

here is a list of some items that I really liked that didn't make the top 32

Relativistic Boots (step into the future)
Winter’s Clutch (Bag of bone meal can make a blizzard)
Cloak of the Shadow Provocateur (provoke 2 nearby creatures into conflict with each other... sadly the tacked on skill bonuses may have killed it)
Door Chalk (Draw door or window in wall and it works... to loony tunes to make the top 32, but a fun item).
Tapestry of Tomes (book shelf you can roll up and take with you)
Restraint Ooze (magical shackles, but with an awesome visual and flavor)
Flute of Silver Winds (changes the planar properties of the area around the player to match Elysium)
Earthen Spine (instant bridge opf giant stone bones)

Hoarder. ;)

I'm going to take way better notes next year. I voted from too many different places to effectively keep track this year and of the few that I was saving, most got eaten in a computer crash.

I quite liked all of the winter-themed items that have been mentioned. I liked the winter's clutch, or blizzard bag as I kept calling it in my head. I really liked the stolen tears of the winter witch, too. I kept coming back to the witchfrost heart, though. I saw it several times and I just really loved it.

I really loved the softening powder. The bit about the jar wiggling until the powder was gone was nice. I'm going to be keeping that one for later use.

The lute of enveloping was neat.

I feel like there was a different set of boots that had to do with dancing that I liked, but maybe I'm just remembering the boots of the caper incorrectly. ...This is why I need to take notes.

One item I initially didn't like, but then got on board with after a few more readings, was the dagger sheath that -- if I remember right -- essentially let you take an existing magical dagger and temporarily enchant mundane daggers with the same bonuses, so you could throw magic daggers without risk of losing the original.

The vrolikai hide belt sheath? Liked that too. In fact, it's similar enough to an idea I had but didn't develop for my 2011 submission that I felt obligated to upvote it almost every time I saw it.

Also quite liked Coridan's skein helm. Especially the name. Originally thought it was gonna be some fate/thread thingy and then realized it was about a group of geese and thought that was SO COOL. (I'm one of those people that geek out over the neat names groups of animals can go by.)
