Venture Captains and Pathfinders alike, be welcome!
Paizo's organized play mega-campaign kicks off this Gen Con and we couldn't be more excited to announce both its launch and the hiring of Nicolas Logue as our Organized Play Coordinator.
You can visit the Pathfinder Society page right now to get your first look at this exciting campaign. Stay tuned to the Paizo Blog for previews of additional events, descriptions of the five factions you can join when signing up for Pathfinder Society, and details on when we plan to launch sign-ups right here on paizo.com.
First and foremost, the Pathfinder Society is going to need volunteers. LOTS of volunteers. LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS of volunteers. We need scenarios run at Gen Con (this year) and at every major gaming convention across the country next year. We need scenarios run in retail stores. We need scenarios run at gaming clubs, in your home, at work, in the airport, on top of the Empire State Building--we want thousands of fresh-faced Pathfinders to be exploring Absalom and Golarion's Inner Sea region ASAP!
We don't have all of the details ready to release, but if you're interested in running Pathfinder Society Scenarios at the above (ok, most of them) locations, please email me with the subject line PATHFINDER SOCIETY VOLUNTEER. (Seriously, use that subject line or you're likely to get lost in my spam filter.) I'll keep track of potentials until we have Nick on board (next month) and fully up-to-speed. My email is josh@paizo.com.
We're unbelievably excited to FINALLY be able to tell you about Pathfinder Society and I, personally, can't wait to stand in a sea of Pathfinder Society players this summer at Gen Con.
The moment you can sign-up for Gen Con events, I'd highly suggest you sign-up for one of our Pathfinder Society slots as space will be limited for Season 0 and we expect a sellout crowd. Also, be sure to look for our Ascension of the Drow mega event on Friday night of Gen Con. You won't want to miss this exciting prequel to the Second Darkness Adventure Path--the results of which will influence all of Golarion!
Welcome to our new campaign!

Since I won't be able to make it to GC this year thou I'd love to finally go to GC, but I was curious will the adventures & other Society stuff be available for sale outside of the gamig events?
thanks
RM
Most definitely. In fact we are setting up a program through which ANYONE can play Pathfinder Society events all over the world, and dozens of local gaming stores will be a part of a to-be-announced network offering offical PFS scenarios at their stores.

Greetings All!
Whoa! Well this has been a long time coming folks, and I can't express enough how WILDLY OUT OF MY MIND EXCITED I am to be officially joining the Paizo team, especially when we are burgeoning on a whole new era of Awesomeness with the Pathfinder RPG and the Pathfinder Society.
This is going to be the t%$$. We've been rapping about Pathfinder Society for well over six months and the innovations we are going to implement to organized play will knock your socks off. I'm sure long time fans of Organized Play will be refreshed by the new tact we are taking, and those who've never really enjoyed this style of campaign will be pleasantly surprised I think.
I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M WORKING FOR PAIZO! This has seriously been a dream of mine (a pipe-dream feverish fantasy, that is not rated PG 13 I assure you) since I first visited the Paizo offices three years ago. I'm still in shock, but I'm ready to get CRACK-CRAZY on the Pathfinder Society.
So join on up. Get in on some of the wild events we're launching at Gencon this year, spawned from Josh and my twisted minds, and DO definitely check out Ascension of the Drow, it is an event like no other, in which you step into the soft leather boots of Drow masterminds, assassins and demon-priestesses, and vie for control of a WHOLE FRIGGIN CITY! Cause that my friends, is how we get down. :-)

Specifically, the Monday after Gen Con our Gen Con Pathfinder Society Scenarios will be available for download on paizo.com for a small fee. Starting in September, we'll release a minimum of two scenarios every month via PDF, again, for a small fee on paizo.com.
We're going to make the PDFs available to qualified (guidelines coming soon) retailers as well so they have free access to run Pathfinder Society Scenarios out of their stores.

YEE-HA!! This is the best news I've heard all year! I suggest we declare today to be Paizo Day and celebrate every year for the rest of our lives! And we shall remember always where we were when we got the news. Freedom reigns!
P.S. This is my tenth post- I'm locked in here now!

Up to this moment, I thought about joining RPGA for their Living Realms campaign.
And now I'm thinking how best to advertise the Pathfinder Society over in Germany.
You just made me thinking about to emigrate to the U.S. for the first time in my life!
Whoa, that's quite a feat! No need to immigrate! With the astounding number of awesome international supporters like you Wormys, I'm sure we can arrange for regional PFS events and activities all over the world! WE SHALL CONQUER THE UNIVERSE WITH GAMING WONDER! ;-)

With the astounding number of awesome international supporters like you Wormys,
You know, you deserve this support. I haven't seen an enterprise go to such lenghts to serve their customers needs as Paizo did in the past. Our support is the least thing we can do to express our thanks.

Wormy's absolutely right, and I'll do my best to help out promote Pathfinder Society in Germany too.

I was active in RPGA for about 7 years (since the start of Living Greyhawk), but ended up burned out after years of conventions, writing, etc. The announcement of 4E and Living Realms reignited my interest enough that I went to DDXP to get a taste of the new game and I was considering going to GenCon for the premier of the LR campaign.
Now, with the announcement of Pathfinder Society and the Pathfinder RPG I am definitely planning on going to GenCon, but I am not planning on any RPGA events at all...instead, I'm going to volunteer to help run Pathfinder events and hopefully play in the Pathfinder special :) THIS is the spark that really has roped me back into wanting to do organized play again.

Italy, Germany...next...THE UNIVERSE! Thanks guys! Email Josh at josh@paizo.com if you are interested in volunteering! We appreciate the help!

And I'll do my best in tiny Finland...

Glad to hear it Robert! I think you'll be excited by our new spins on org play with Pathfinder Society! I'll see you at Gen Con my man!

Gen Con is a bit of a drive from the antipodes - I'm hoping there's room for the small home gaming groups that just report from their quiet corners occassionally to be involved in all this...
Reggie
Your wish is gratned Reggie! The first four Pathfinder scenarios (found HERE) will be available for download for a very small fee on the paizo site right after Gencon. Anyone can join the Society, play and report to contribute to each Season's story arc (your actions WILL matter and decide your faction's triumphs or tragedies). Also, there will be regional events wrangled by regional vounteers that will be playable at gaming stores across the face of the planet. Get you some PFS baby. Join the Society, everybody's doing it. ;-)

I'm interested in possible home play of the modules but am unsure about volunteering. I assume volunteering is not the same as joining a faction. What exactly is desired on the part of those who do volunteer? I ask having never really been a part of a Living Campaign.

You don't have to volunteer to join a faction.
Everyone who joins the Society joins one of five factions.
Advancement isn't just about levels in Pathfinder Society, you also score points for your faction throughout the scenarios and these points shape the outcome of grand story arcs, deciding whether or not your faction rises in prominence or is cast down from power in the world.
Volunteers will be judges and coordinators (factional and/or regional) who would help by running official Pathfinder Society events, either at Gencon, or at local gaming stores, or smaller cons around the world.

*Tacklehugs Nick*
Congratulations on the new job! I'm all sorts of excited about this, I've never taken part in any form of organised play but I love pathfinder and adore your work.
My husband and I are planning to talk to the owner of our local games store about the possibility of running this once the critera for that is up and about, so that's the possibility of the UK to add to your invasion list ;)

Color me very excited. I've been a long-time member of the RPGA (#154777 - sometime back in the late 80's early 90's) and used to love organized play in the hey-day of Living City, Virtual Seattle and at the very beginning of Living Greyhawk.
I know organized play has moved away from the "classic" adventures but Pathfinder/Golarian calls out for it!
As an example, at the latest meetup I ran UK 4 When a Star Falls using Castles & Crusades as a "classic" game. I made up the PC's and the player's had a blast by using the background blurbs to get into the rp'ing aspect.
Instead of just organized play I think that adding a "classic element" to the Pathfinder RPG would get some of the grognards to join in (of which I'm one:)). I'd definitely volunteer to assist in either organized play, classic play or online play.

I've already pitched using these rules to one of my group at the local gaming shop. He's as pumped as I am. So I'd like to volunteer, but not sure how many con's I'll be able to run things at. (Though when I go I'd certainly be willing to run.) Is that enough to volunteer?
And congrats Mr. Logue! I look forward to what you'll bring to us in the future.
