My email is also sent. I am very excited to help out in whatever capacity I can (administrative, authoring, DMing, convention organizing, etc.). I have years of Living Greyhawk experience and energy that I'd like to turn to the Pathfinder Society.

Gooe idea!

What about calling it Independence Day?
(For that's what today's announcements feel like to me)

And now I'm thinking how best to advertise the Pathfinder Society over in Germany.

You just made me thinking about to emigrate to the U.S. for the first time in my life!

Whoa, that's quite a feat! No need to immigrate! With the astounding number of awesome international supporters like you Wormys, I'm sure we can arrange for regional PFS events and activities all over the world! WE SHALL CONQUER THE UNIVERSE WITH GAMING WONDER! ;-)

Last but not least: Congratulations, Nick!

I can imagine that this is a dream come true for a D&D addict like you. ;-)

As an addition to Wormy's mail: Maybe you remember this odd group of fanatics from Germany which folllowed online Paizo's every step after its announcement of the Pathfinder AP products. Some translated all PF blog entries to german and published them on german rpg sites, some even stayed awake until 4 am cet in order to not miss any detail of the ongoing plans..

It doesn't necessarily take a german translation of PF (as proposed by then)., but I am sure that most of that group ('Pfadfinder') would welcome the chance to spread the word.

I'll certainly do so in Cologne/ Germany and Vienna/ Austria, both cities with an active rpg scene.

Cheers,
Guenther

I know organized play has moved away from the "classic" adventures but Pathfinder/Golarian calls out for it!

As an example, at the latest meetup I ran UK 4 When a Star Falls using Castles & Crusades as a "classic" game. I made up the PC's and the player's had a blast by using the background blurbs to get into the rp'ing aspect.

Instead of just organized play I think that adding a "classic element" to the Pathfinder RPG would get some of the grognards to join in (of which I'm one:)). I'd definitely volunteer to assist in either organized play, classic play or online play.

I'd love to see some Pathfinder "classic" style support also. Some of my favorite games ever were convention events with pre-made backgrounds and all sorts of fun RP mixed into the action.

Lots of support from seven different countries pouring in! Keep it up! Tell your friends! More exclamation points!!!!

Question: who will be responsible for all the pathfinder society scenario's? Will this be done in-house or will you do open calls / etc?

I am so in! I can't go to GenCon this year, but I want to help if I can! Will anything be going on for Free RPG day?

Heh :-) Care to tell us just how many folks showed their interest in the society? Or "too much to count"? I´m just curious.

More on this later. :-) Not ready to spill the beans, yet.

We will have a 3.5 Pathfinder Module at Free RPG Day called Revenge of the Kobold King that's a sequel to Crown of the Kobold King.

Can you tell me how can support this the foreigners of us?

Thanks and excuse my poor english.

We would love to have non-US players running games for Pathfinder Society. We won't have capacity to do translations of our scenarios, but hope for PFS games to pop up the world over. :-)

I'm definitely interested. I'm running Pathfinder all over my hometown now.. By the time this program is ready I'll be up for running games and volunteering!

I'm part of the staff of a convention that will be running this December. We would be very interested in running Pathfinder games (and we can wrangle GMs for it), as well as the possibility of hosting any other convention activities that you may be planning-- I don't know if you plan on doing interactives or the like, but if you do, we're interested. What is the best way for us to get involved? Should I send a volunteer e-mail with more details?

I'm a big fan of Pathfinder and a member of an established RPG club, so I'm interested in this. E-mail sent.

Hello, Greg! Long Live Mayor Charles Oliver O'Kane!

The special "dark elf houses" event at Gen Con will be very much like a "classic" tournament, as I understand it.

Very exciting! I was one of the original Regional Triads for the Yeomanry region of Living Greyhawk, and eventually got burned out like many of the people who have already posted. Frankly, the way the RPGA ran things is like how WotC is running things - closed. Triads had zero input, zero power, and zero appreciation. Paizo's tack in other areas is exactly the opposite, so I have high hopes that their organized play will be the same! I was on the fence about Gen Con but now I plan to go and run some Pathfinder.

Any chance we can get a "spread the word" document that we can take to our local games stores, gaming groups, etc.? With the number of individuals interested it would be a good marketing opportunity. I'm heading to at least two shops to talk about PF and the Pathfinder Society it this weekend, and would like to give them information they can keep (other than directing them to the site).

Fantastic !

Won't be able to run anything at my local convention the year (Polycon - SLO, CA) as it takes place in July, and Dundracon is already over, but I'll certainly run at both events next year !

Hey there Ernest, it's Eric from the Yeomanry (the one obsessed with all things Hillman)! You echo my experience with the RPGA as well, though I did stick around a bit to write some modules for the Green Regent and Mark of Heroes runs.

For the Paizo folks, count me interested in assisting from the good old Southern US of A. Email headed your way. I'll be talking to my FLGS folks tomorrow, and am sending a message out to our D&D Meet-Up Coordinator as well (I'm the assistant organizer) so you'll have some gaming in Birmingham.

Sovereign Court

I sent my e-mail and am hoping to get in touch with my FLGS' to find out what they think of this whole biz-nazz!

I gotta say, this is fantastic! I haven't been this excited about an RPG since 3.5 came out. The Pathfinder Society sounds fantastic, and I hope that I can help out in some small way!

Now that would be a good idea! I´m part of the staff for a local gaming convention here the weekend after easter, so that would be the perfect time to spread the news.

A stray thought:

Would all "Pathfinder Society" events need to be run under the Pathfinder rules, or could they be run under SRD 3.5?

If a lot of the changes in alpha-1 get incorporated into beta, I'm imagining that most D&D players coming to "Pathfinder Society" for their first time will be sitting down at the table imagining that they pretty much know the rules, and they'll be wrong in unpleasantly surprising ways.

Good question. Either way, I'd think that the alpha is a safe choice, the changes being minute enough that any player could pretty much learn the changes in under five minutes as pertains to their character. Good question though, I'll let the POWERS THAT BE field this one, as I don't get my wings officially until mid-April! :-)

BTW, Nick, are you relocating to the left coast or are you staying in NY?

Scarab Sages

I'm a member from the UK, never been involved in the RPGA or any other organised play.
It sounds great to have the chance to be in at the beginning of a new campaign setting, and now, a new rules set, and it's encouraging to know there are hundreds (thousands?) of active members on these boards to share tips, rules queries and amusing anecdotes with.

Before I sign up, though, I would need to know;

  • Is there a minimum number of scenarios that must be played?
  • Are there deadlines to play and report on each scenario?
  • How much paperwork and report-writing would a DM have to do?
  • Do all the players require registering?
  • Will the players be gathered into 'meta-regions', as per Living Greyhawk? That was one aspect that did not appeal; that my characters could be barred from travelling out of their designated area.

Basically, is this something that can be fit around an existing group and campaign, or would it have to be a full-time replacement for that campaign?

Cheers,
Bob

This is the most exciting aspect of all the Pathfinder announcements to me. I DM my own home campaign and only ever get to be a player when I go to conventions. That is why I play Living Greyhawk, but with its imminent demise I was reluctanly succombing to having to buy 4e to play in Living Forgotten Realms.

But now I am overjoyed to have an alternative to be managed by the people who are the best equipped to be the torchbearers for the type of campaign I can get behind. I love(d) Greyhawk and love Pathfinder. I can't wait to see more and get to play from the outset.

I won't be able to home game with it as my gaming buddies have never been interested in organized campaigns like this. So here is hoping we get local conventions (Wash DC area) going with this as soon as possible post GenCon. I hope to see the faces I have come to know form Living Greyhawk getting involved and many new ones also.

Eric.

Chris:

We won't be switching over the Pathfinder RPG version of the 3.5 rules until GenCon 2009, so for the intervening period of time, all scenarios will be using the 3.5 SRD just like Pathfinder and our other products will be.

On a related note... If you wish to DM at home or with friends, do you need to be a volunteer or a registered DM or just a registered player?

The Exchange

Wow. I cannot wait to join in on this. I spent several active years in the RPGA doing a ton of different things from RPGA State Representative to organizing cons centered around RPGA events. I know Pathfinder Society is going to exceed everything RPGA accomplished and make its mark on the gaming world.

You can count on me Nick!

My goal for PFS is to create a system where in-home, in-store, and convention play all work relatively the same. There will probably be a registration system and both players and GMs will need to register for their games to count toward the overall prestige of each faction.

We have a two-day-long meeting planned for next week to solidify the organizational structure of PFS. Additional details coming soon. :-)

As a side note, I'm moved by the enormous level of support even the IDEA of PFS has generated in our readership. Please tell your friends, your local game store, your game groups about PFS and let's make this the best org play system in gaming! :-)

I stopped by one of the shops in my area tonight, and talked to them about it- the owner was very interested. He asked for more information, so I told him I'd bring it in once more was available. :)

Awesome, I'm from New Zealand, heavily involved in the gaming scene here and currently running Runelords at my local club. I also run a couple of rpg events each year and I know we would definitely be interested in running Pathfinder events here. I've sent my email to be a volunteer. Can't wait!

Awesome news.
Will there be a Paizo/Pathfinder presence at GenCon UK this year?
I've run RPGA games (Living Greyhawk, Eberron and others) at GenCon UK before and would be happy to volunteer to help with Pathfinder here in the UK.

There's an Irish volunteer.

I second this request because my FLGS runs Living Greyhawk events constantly and that game will be ending soon. If I start getting them looking forward to this now they just may switch over when Pathfinder Society begins instead of any 4e rpga living campaigns start. Or maybe they will do both.

Dark Archive

Any kind of "spread the word" document, posters, maps or hand-outs would be a step in the right direction, especially as many RPGA games are coming to an end.

I was very disillusioned with the RPGA decision to drop Greyhawk and changes that had been made to Faerun. Arcanis was looking to be the only "Living" game left to consider. Which is why I am so very excited about the Pathfinder Society.

I can't wait to get started.

While I don't plan on becoming a member of Pathfinder Society, I plan on supporting it by buying the scenerios as soon as they come out. Quick question about them though.

Are these going to be similiar to length as the RPGA Living Greyhawk ones (about a 4-6 hour session)? I'm hoping to introduce my daughter to D&D/PFRPG soon, and am hoping these could be used as a one-shot type adventure.

Good luck Nic, and the rest of the Paizo staff!

I'm pretty sure I'll be at GenCon UK and I'd also be happy to run a module or two. Paul 'Kithran' James is in charge of all organised play rpgs at GenCon UK, I believe; if I see him in the near future I'll talk to him about it!

Well, this is all very exciting. And I would love, L-O-V-E, LOVE to volunteer... But I'm not sure what good it would do. I'm not the best organizer, and I haven't been able to scare up a game in years. And I'm in New York. Near NYC, no less. How does that figure? (Well, beyond the fact that I don't drive, I guess?)

That said, I'm still very excited, and await word on what is going on with PFS in New York. I plan on participating, if not running. And who knows, I might try it at some point.

I'm in awe of Paizo right now, I really am.

They had better not interfere with the PFS R.O.C. Taiwan. We will not stand for cross- China sea denial of our status as an independent Pathfinder society!

I will eagerly sign up for homeplay. I'm moving in July, and sadly where i'm moving has no FLGS. So i'm going to be encouraging my nephews and nieces (most of whom are adults now) to sign up. I'm very excited by all of this.

I've never been this excited and fully behind both PRPG and the campaign setting. More so than i've ever been for any other setting and game.
