Medium BAB Classes, New

Homebrew and House Rules

Grand Lodge

I'm trying to find a bit of time to design some new Medium BAB Classes and am hoping for advice on things I should consider.

Like the Bard and the Inquisitor, these Classes would have 2 good Saves and up to six Spell Levels. Some would have 6 Skills Ranks per Level like the previous, some would have 8 or 4 like the Rogue or Druid or Monk.

One is a Medium BAB "Paladin": Divine Spells, 4 Skill Ranks, a few of the Pally Features. Considerations to maintain Balance are appreciated.

Another is a Medium BAB "Pathfinder": Arcane & Divine mix of Spells, 8 Skill Ranks, Feats as Class Features in-line w/ the Fighter progession (Lvl's 1,2,4,6,8...) -- the Feats are Skill Feats & non-Combat or Casting Feats (Improved Init, Fleet, Skill Focus, Dodge, Gr Fort, etc., etc. -- no Weapon Focus, Power Attack, Combat Casting or Spell Focus). The "Pathfinder" would also have something like Bardic Knowledge and some Features including Evasion, Uncanny Dodge, Rogue Talents and the like. This Class is intended to replace the Bard -- unless one plays a Bard purely for Bumping other PCs, which this Class has nothing that does that. Compare with Bard, Rogue, Akashic, Fighter. Game Balance considerations, please?

So he's closest to the bard... lessee.

His spell list sounds close enough to the bards where it IS the bards; I'm cool with this.
Replacing Perfomance and Versitile Performance with an underpowered, non-combat feat... I can buy that.
Bardic knowledge unchanged.
2 extra skill points per level; probably unnecessary, I'd keep it @ 6. 8 skill points is a rogue-exclusive, and should stay that way. You could take away all martial weapon proficiencies and bump to 8 if you really want.

He could toss in some useful assorted abilities at non-feat levels, since right now he's a little weak relative to the bard (the underpowered feats are not as good as performance + versitile for characters, generally). Things like trackless from Druid and maybe bonuses to diplomatic skills and such. Maybe even evasion around level 9 or so.

Yeah, seems generally fine as a "new" bard if that is what you are looking for.

(Still has lots of work to be done...)

You realize that giving this guy that bonus to linguistics and several bonus feats to boost skills, he has psychic paper. The only thing that the rogue has that he doesn't is sneak attack; that is fine if you're just.trying to make a better rogue.

So it's a 20th level Pathfinder Chronicler with spells? Why doesn't the Archaeologist work?

Grand Lodge

I keep comparing him to Monte Cook's Akashic in Arcana Evolved -- but yeah -- he seems better than the Rogue; he just can't fight. Those d6s the Rogue gets are strong. ... Maybe it really will depend on his Spell list??? Or Maybe Stalwart and Improved Uncanny Dodge should be Gr Rogue Talents. Maybe I should just edit the Rogue Talents lists.

Archaeologist?

Archeologist Bard archetype from Ultimate Combat. It would be quite close to your Pathfinder (but with not nearly as much bonus feats).

Ah, the UC (Is that even considered a legitimate PF book -- it has the gun-dork "class"?)

Anyway, thanks for the link; I'll check it out!
