Do You Think Flattery Will Keep You Alive?

Thursday, November 19, 2015

Only one creature could be the winner in this Bestiary 5 throwdown, and with it, five winners of our latest Pathfinder Roleplaying Game hardcover!

Dominating against the Pakalchi Sahkil, the Wyrmwraith emerged the victor in our battle royale! This CR 17 incorporeal undead has a terrifying array of powers at its command, making you long for the days of "just" fighting a dragon for its wealth. Not even dragons are safe from the wyrmwraith, for as much as this undead hates the living, it hates those that remind it of what it lost the most.

Many of you voted in our elimination contest, leading the Wyrmwraith to victory, and for your votes, we promised a signed copy of Bestiary 5, and I'm happy to announce that Thyrion is the winner! We'll be contacting you shortly, and the four winners of the PDF copy are: BelkarBitterleaf, fuzbuckle, Paladinosaur, and Drexer!

And following tradition, here's the complete table of contents for Bestiary 5!

Yeah, I guess the dragon was going to be a shoo-in. Congrats to the winners. Liking the art for the cetus and Kurobozu. And I see we're getting some yokai? Cool!

Congratulations to the winners!

Also that thriae looks absolutely awesome. Yay more thriae!

Congratulations! Now for me, to the store page!

I would like to thank Nethys for his inspiration to the chaotic and lawful nature of the RNG demi-gods, and my players who shall suffer mightily through these new and beautiful pets that I shall unleash on them.

Now the heikegani will always stay the unfinished artwork. Love the undead monk, dislike this art of cetus wich looks a bit like the lusca.

Nice to see some of the Triaxian creatures making it to the (setting neutral) big time!

I've always loved the look of the wollipeds. And storm ghosts and ursikka could ruin anyone's day. :)

While I'm sad I didn't win, I'm glad for the people that did. Now I just have to convince my mom that getting this for my Birthday is a good thing.

That or Christmas.

There is a lot of interesting sounding words in that list.

Taxidermic creature makes me wonder, undead or construct? Either way it sounds like a template I want to apply to some humans for super creepy encounters.

Astral, Dream, Etheric, Nightmare, Occult Dragon looks like the new dragon family. I wonder what they are called as a group?

Ether Drake as well.

Giant Mantis shrimp, does that mean I get my cannon shrimp?

Hope Mutants are the ones from the recent numeria material rather than the mana waste mutants, if it is at all either of those templates. The numerian mutants are much more variable and interesting.

Wollipeds are great to see on the mere fact hat they are animal type but not actually a real animal, or an oversized version of a real animal.

Vukodlak? Are we to see a new type of werewolf?

If I remember right the vukodlak is a kind of werewolf ghost that was written up in the bestiary for one of the entries in Carrion Crown.

Dataphiles

Congratulations to the winners, and the Wyrmwraith. I know its CR17, but PLEASE find a way to fit it into a PFS scenario or at least a high level sanctioned module or AP.

Yet again no Proteans? :(

I'm pretty sure these are the Esoteric Dragon group.

Tell you what: Come to the delve table at Paizocon while I'm running and remind me to do this, and I'll run a wyrmwraith for your four 4th-level pregens. It won't be as bad as the time they found Lamashtu (though I guess Kyra converted and lived) or an efreet (and accidentally wished Sandpoint into annihilation so that it "Would never be attacked by monsters again").

Wow, I would've loved sitting in on that table.

Hi all,

I got the below mail from Liz Courts this night.

Hard to believe that I had the unearned luck to get the price...

Looks credible though.

Thriyon

The final results were not public, but the Wyrmwraith has almost double the Pakalchi's votes.

Hi again,

Ok, it seems I have to face the truth.

I will assume the winner's name and accept gratefully the price.

Maybe my name was confused because of my new favorite spell: Aspect of the Toad.

Many Thanks to Paizo and for the Congrats!

Regards

Thyrion

No problem! Funny thing is, I only found it because you mentioned there was a Pathfinder squonk image floating around, so I looked up said image and found the crab on the same site, posted recently. :P

Did you find the Squonk in the end?

And maybe I can thank you with this un-used Kaiju artwork that should have been in Bestiary 3.

I did indeed find ft! And yeah that kaiju is pretty sweet, it would've been an awesome addition to the bestiary.

The Jungle Drake is gorgeous, easily my favorite piece of artwork in the book

I voted Mind Flayer. Why Mind Flayer no win?

The Intellectual Property Dragon ate him.

Intellectual property would seem to be the property a mind flayer would have the easiest time damaging.

Here's hoping the jungle drake is a familiar option. Looks small, but the picture could be misleading.

Either way it's most likely evil.

It's actually Large, so yeah, not a familiar. It is Neutral Evil, though.

Improved Familiar options for this book are:

Brain Mole (5th, one step of neutral)
Chuspiki (7th, any chaotic)
Clockwork Familiar (7th, any)
Liminal Sprite (7th, any chaotic)
Sahkil, Esipil (7th, neutral evil)
Aether/Air/Earth/Fire/Water Wysp (7th, any)
Xiao (7th, any)

...and technically, a small aether elemental is an option since it lists Elemental, Small (any type) in the feat.

They are evil.

They are also size Large.

In a battle royal of monsters, remember: The Dragon always wins.

Not true, the Nightmare Dragon actually lost to the Deep Merfolk (if I remeember well)

This is an undead. :-p
