The Avalon Chronicles

Game Master lynora

This is a high level rules light game set in a school for magical kids, kinda a mash-up of Soul Eater, Harry Potter, and X-Men. :)

Godling? Where's that from? I'm not familiar with it. Aside from that should be fine. The rest of your questions I answered just a few posts up.

didn't notice that sorry

and yea, what dragonborn linked to :3

EDIT: I know middle-aged has modifiers of +1 to mental and -1 to physical stats, but what are the modifiers for a kid?

4d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 4, 1) = 12
4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 5, 3) = 13
4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 4, 6) = 16
4d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 2, 1) = 7
4d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 6, 3) = 15
4d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 6, 4) = 21

worst dices dropped

EDIT:

this seems to be 11, 12, 14, 6, 13, 17

hm, maybe wasn't the best idea

Jusr assign stats. Less hassle that way.

true, I plan to make a proper char sheet, and thus I already take it more serious than others I guess :)

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

If you read the earlier in the recruitment thread I was in the same boat...
Pick stats and classes that fit your character concept and go with it!

Okay, cool. Thats awesome and should fit right in. I approve. :)

Shadow Lodge

Sweet. Now try and explain why MrDark&Light shouldn't doubt. ;)

Don't worry about stat modifiers for age. Just assign stats as you like, within reason. Since there's not a lot of magical equipment, I expect folks to pad their ability scores to make up for that.

so, level 16 then? how much do out of combat skills matter?

joriandrake wrote:

16 or under for students. Some people choose to be less powerful, or at least start that way.

They matter as much as you want to make them matter, but are more often than not hand waved as there are a minimum of dice rolls in the game. But after an experiment without any dice rolls we realized that rules free doesn't work and dice rolls are needed to adjudicate combats. :)

Shadow Lodge

Cinematic battles work just fine...

Dragonborn3 wrote:

We just hellboy and a rat folk alchemist to a team that already included a whole crap ton of talent and is led by a reality bender....of course he isn't worried. ;P

Island vs Forest should be interesting...

hm, I think I have a good idea on how to work with this, sometimes she will be level 6, sometimes 16 :3

and I will have a rage-like power, but instead of actual raging the bonus to stats will differ, she will get a damage resistance, and the goddess side of her will emerge at these times

She will only be 16 when the divinity fully wakes up

Found a few "witches" with scythe images on google, was surprised how many good ones, I knew of Maka from Soul Eater, but nothing else, so it actually helped me find some anime for later :3

Sounds interesting. :)

going to cinema now, will finish up tomorrow, I have a pretty good idea how to make her now :)

ah right, and cackle will perfectly work for the classic "b*tch queen" laugh, every time I hear this in an anime, priceless

Liberty's Edge

So is it okay to do 16 levels with the cat lord template? That would technically make him a CR 18, but he doesn't use spells. He'll have alchemist extracts, but I'd honestly prefer to just reflavor the alchemist part completely. Or cherry pick the parts of the class I want and dump the rest. Using extracts just doesn't fit the concept that well. I'll try to post some stats today for your approval.

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

Some of the characters are level 16 getalts...

Jelani, gestalt is fine and don't worry about CR. If you want some class features but not others on the second class that's cool as well. I'm not stressed too much about power level.

Hey Lyn,
Sent ya a PM.

Nother question: any actual leveling taking place in this game? or are we static at 16, but grow in power in other ways?

Replied to PM.

No actual leveling. Not til after graduation. Which means either leaving or joining the teaching staff. Yes, some growing in power in other ways. A lot of times it's about gaining control of powers, so the potential is there but it doesn't always work. That's really most cases. And then there are those who may have power but not the maturity to use it well or who are healing from past trauma.

This is one of the pieces of equipment I want. Its magical but only increases my storage capacity.

Belt of Many Pockets:

This broad belt seems to be nothing
more than a well-made article of clothing, but closer examination
reveals eight small pouches along its inner front. In fact, a
total of sixty-four extradimensional pouches exist in the belt,
with seven more “behind’’ each of the eight readily apparent
ones. Each pouch is similar to a miniature bag of holding, able
to contain up to 1 cubic foot of material weighing as much as
10 pounds. In addition, if the wearer has a familiar, any pouch
can hold it no matter what its size or weight. The familiar has
no need for food, water, or air while inside the pouch, but any
other living creature of suitable size placed within a pocket
has enough air for only 1 minute, after which it suffocates.
Anything stored in the belt’s pockets is effectively weightless
and doesn’t affect the wearer’s carrying capacity so long
as the belt is worn around the waist. If removed, the belt
weighs one-tenth of the total weight of all the items stored
within it.

While worn around the waist, the belt responds to its
wearer’s desire to extract something (by opening the correct
pouch) or store something (by opening an empty pouch).

Retrieving a specific item from the pouch is a move action,
but doesn’t provoke the attacks of opportunity that retrieving
a stored item usually does.

Also this is the Halfling feat I wanted, despite not being one. Its not super important, but it is incredibly awesome flavor wise and fits really amazingly with my concept.

Well Prepared:

Well-Prepared

Somehow, you always seem to have the right tools or supplies close at hand.

Prerequisite: Halfling.

Benefit: Once per day, when confronted with a situation that calls for a particular mundane item of equipment, you may make a Sleight of Hand check with a DC of 10 plus the item's cost in gold pieces to “happen” to have such an item on your person. For example, having a crowbar would be DC 12, whereas a flask of acid would be DC 20. The item must be something you can easily carry—if you are on foot and have only a backpack, for example, you could not have a large iron cauldron. You cannot have magical items using this feat, nor can you have specific items, such as the key to a particular door. If you are stripped of your equipment or possessions, you lose the benefits of this feat until you have at least a day to resupply and “acquire” new items. You must pay for these items normally.

Since its nothing that powerful, I figure we can eliminate the 1/day restriction.

Liberty's Edge

Here's what I've come up with. The race was built using the rules from ARG, which are now on d20pfsrd.com. Class wise, he's a barbarian with the only gestalt elements being his reflex save bonus, and possibly some class skills/points (didn't actually calculate them). Let me know if this is okay. My only concern is his AC might be a little low for this level of play. Could always put on armor, but I'd rather not.

Tyga:

RACE: Mutant Human (26 RP)
Type: Monstrous Humanoid (Darkvision) (3 RP)
Size: Medium
Base Speed: 30 feet
Ability Score Mods: +2 to any two (2 RP)
Languages: Common (can learn same languages as human)
Racial Traits:
Fast Healing 3 (21 RP)

Pseudogestalt Cat Lord Invulnerable Rager 16/Rogue (only a little)

Str: 24
Dex: 20
Con: 16
Int: 10
Wis: 16
Cha: 10

Move: 50'

AC: 23 (+8 NA, +5 dex)
HP: 197 (16d12+64) (261 while raging)
DR 8/-, DR 10/Silver
Fast Healing 3

Fort +13 Ref +15 Will +8

BAB: +16 , CMB +23 (+27 grapple), CMD 38

Claws +23 (2d6+7+grab) and Bite + 23 (2d8+7)

Rage Power: Raging Leaper, Renewed Vigor, Bestial Leaper, Primal Scent, Flesh Wound, Superstitious, Disruptive, Spellbreaker, Eater of Magic

Feats: Power Attack, Improved Natural Attack (Claws), Improved Natural Attack (Bite), Eldritch Claws, Raging Vitality, Combat Reflexes, Toughness, Extra Rage Power

Skills: Acrobatics +28 (44 jumping, 60 when raging) (16 ranks, 5 dex, 4 race, 3 class), Climb +25 (16 ranks, 7 str, 3 class), Perception +22 (16 ranks, 3 wis, 3 class), Stealth +28 (16 ranks, 5 dex, 3 class, 4 race), Survival +22

Change Shape (Su) - move action to change to dire tiger
Dominion (Su) - speak with cats, charm animal at will (cats only)
Leap (Ex) - +8 to all acrobatics checks to jump, and always treated as running
Pounce (Ex) - Full attack on charge (including rake)
Rake (Ex) - When charging or grappling two extra claw attacks
Extreme Endurance (Ex) - Endure Elements hot
Greater Rage (Ex) (37 rounds/Day)- +6 str, +8 con, +3 will
Indomitable Will (Ex) - +4 to will vs enchantment while raging

This game looks insane.

insane .. yes .. but a lot of fun.

Like I said before, equipment is very limited, usually no more than one or two magical items. But I'm fine with it if this is one of your two items. And I'll approve the feat as well.

Looks good to me. If you're really worried about AC, I would suggest bracers of armor. Seems like that should work to boost his AC without having him go around in armor.

Liberty's Edge

Cool, so if I get an alias set up can I start playing?

You don't have too be crazy to play here, but sanity is just as optional! (That's how I got in!)

Jelani wrote:

Yeppers.

LYN!! PM!!

Please, when you have time, respond. Thank you in advance :)

PS,
Don't forget us over in Games of Chance.

Thanks for the reminder! I read it briefly while I was packing for the weekend from hell, but never had a chance to reply and would have completely forgotten about it.

And I will be updating Games of Chance this evening. :)

Also,
Sorry, for yelling. I am teh excited for this game and more importantly this character. Too, I have some others ideas to run by you at some point, regarding his survivability powers.

Finally,

Is the game solely at Avalon or do we go on "field trips" or otherwise leave the school and interact beyond its borders?

Shadow Lodge

There have been occasional trips to places outside of the school, but most of the time they stick to Agartha.

EDIT: So far I think only one was actually approved by the school though...

btw, I didn't forget or stopped caring, just I want to have my witch girl appear when I am sure I have enough time and attention for this game too, so I rather postponed my joining a bit :)

joriandrake wrote:

No problem. You can join the game whenever you wish. You can show up here or in the discussion thread whenever you are ready and we'll get you in the game as soon as we can. :)

Lyn,
I sent you a PM last night, but because of all the craziness with the site, I have no idea if you got it. If not, I should still have it in my sent box.

Let me check. I don't see the new notice, but maybe it didn't show up because of the site being down.

Ah, found it and replied.

Is recruiting still open?

Shadow Lodge

It is always open!

i am thinking of a incubus scholar, at this time. being a bookish person, that is too good with the lady's, but only wants a girl that sees him as a person, rather then a man whore.

another idea was a young template grave walker witch, that might have a undead butler of sorts. being very naive about her ability's, and thinks it is all her dolls doing.

Shadow Lodge

The Young Template isn't really needed, in my opinion. Just say she's Small Size and your good, making her ability scores match what you think she would have. Or just make her a slightly crazy teen. Either way works for me.

The Incubus could be interesting, since we recently added a similar Angel version of one not long ago. Is he evil? Is he honestly trying to become good?

What are you wanting to accomplish with those characters? Why are they at Avalon? Any ideas for story arcs you'd like them to have?

EDIT: I just had an idea for how the Incubus can get to Avalon. I'll PM it to you if you want to consider it. Just let me know! :)

Well, either of those could work. It just depends on what would be most fun for you to play. :)

Edit: and all that stuff DB3 said. Even if the character is a small child, theres no need to give handicaps for it.

Shadow Lodge

He could play both if he was so inclined, many of us have enough voices in our heads to fill out multiple characters after all.

This is true, though usually I ask that a new player picks just one for the acclimation phase. And then once they've got the hang of things add more. Some people get the hang of things very, very quickly. Like within a day kind of quickly. :)

i would only play one, it is your world and game, what one would fit in better do you think, and how would i stat the char up, ie point buy, levels, if you think the incubus is better i would like to hear your thoughts in a PM.

thoughts for story's and char stuff
young witch, why she is there, is because she does not accept or know her power comes from herself, story ark would be her learning to control her power and use it for aiding the school or world.

incubus, why there, looking to learn what he can from the school, and for a love that is not just after his body. or what might fit better, once more your world.

Well, honestly I think either concept fits the setting very well. One of the main purposes of Avalon is to help students learn to control often out of control powers and also to provide a safe environment for children and teens who are often persecuted just for being different. So both of your ideas fit solidly within that framework.
There's a level cap of 16 for students (in order to keep certain spells off limits) although it is okay to choose to be lower than sixteenth if you like. There are some less powerful characters. And sometimes a character is started as very not powerful and grows to become more powerful. This is at the discretion of the player really. But no going beyond sixteenth unless the character graduates and either leaves the school or joins the teaching staff. Stats are assigned according to the rule of cool as long as you don't go too overboard. I will bust things down if you have scores in the forties or more than one over thrity. This is rules light, so you don't need to have a full character sheet though of course you may if that makes things easier for you. You'll need to know your attack bonus, AC, saves, CMB/CMD, and some basic idea for skills though I usually calculate those on the fly myself. You can have one or two magic items that are important to your character concept, but no more. Gestalt is allowed as are psionics and most 3.5 and Pathfinder material.
This is a very story heavy game so don't worry too much about the crunch. The story itself is often driven by the personal interactions that occur within the school. Also,if there's an idea for the character you have or an element you really want to include, we will work to accomodate that. This game really is a cooperative effort. There's a lot of setting information under the campaign info if that would help. And while I certainly don't expect you to read the whole thread, it might help you to pick a spot at random and read for a page or two to get a feel for the play style. That may help solidify for you which character concept you feel will be the most fun for you to play.

I have an idea for a doppelganger. He isn't sure how or why he is in Agartha. See, he does know that something went wrong. Which is why he has also acquired the missing template. Whatever that crazy wizard, and it must have been a wizard, did, it scrambled something that succeeded in getting him into Agartha, it unfortunately also wiped away his memory.

He's been wandering around learning a new set of skills. There's often something tugging at the back of his mind, but, it stays just a hunch or feeling. Thirsting for knowledge, hoping that something will jog loose the mental blocks and return his memory, he has become quite adept at going places he isn't supposed to go and reading things he isn't supposed to read. He has been studying at Avalon for a while now hoping to learn what his purpose was supposed to be, or baring that, how to get back to where he thinks he is from. Unfortunately, he really isn't sure where that is either, though he believes it is from outside Agartha. Even though a few clerics have said it wasn't likely and that he was probably suffering some head injury.

crunch: Advanced Missing Doppelganger, Gestalt Rogue/Wizard.

Shadow Lodge

Up until recently, it wasn't know there was an "outside Agartha" so that works fine. He could go around to all the people who said it was just a head injury and go "See? I TOLD YOU!" XD

The concept seems sound to me. Just need to know what the Missing Template is.

Also: Finally, a new character that could already be enrolled!
