A foolish student got in over his head when he created a "better" summoning circle using powerful summoning chalk to summon a pit fiend. Then he made the mistake of annoying said pit fiend and was quickly killed for it. A unknown fiend hunter of sorts killed the pit fiend and his summoned minions but did not notice that the student had not only summoned something beyond his power but also created a rift to the outer planes in the process. So it was not long until fiends started coming thru the rift which caused it to grow.
They started chain summoning more of their kind and working on opening the rift even more. At that point it became a full blown planar invasion by demons, devils, and deamons. After a little chaos and some of the more powerful fiends being dealt with the rift was closed and the fiends taken care of for the most part. Their were more then a few deaths and two week notices, not to mention damage to the school. Things are settling down for the most part so we are in the repairing phase.
Sense were in the OOC section their is one hellishly powerful pit fiend left but he is being smart and only the fiend hunter is aware of him for sure. I think I got everything, if I missed something I am sure someone will point it out.

He is using the name of the student he ate and raised as a ghost slave which is David. Really you think you could ever amass enough power for no one to find bowing down to a guy named David in fear a little iffy. I mean really beware the wraith of David, just not that scary. ;)
Dragonborn3 |
OP compared to what?
This. We've got a dhampir who can deal out huge amounts of damage, a headmaster who is considered among the top Seers of Agartha as well as a powerful Cardcaster, a dragoness who specializes in divination to the point of flat out ignoring most anti-scry spells, the leader of a rebellious force that is holding their own against a Dragon Empire, a Succubus who is now the Champion of Love, a fire bird who personifies "Knowledge is Power", a young dragon who can bend reality, a young dragon who is the Champion of Time, and one young dragon that gets stronger the more he grows bored and mentally creates monstrous manifestations of his emotions.
I know I'm missing some. Vakkler for instance, seems to have the ability to put any student in their place(detention), no matter how powerful they are.

It took all three of use to convince him that untyped bonuses to ability scores from shapeshifting was overpowered. He didn't like the fact we settled on alchemical.
Sphar, if you do make a class, we'll probably do the same thing. I suggest waiting until Lynora is done studying for/taking her tests on Tuesday before sending anything out.

Yep, what he said. :)
The Dalesman |
We've done that once and only once so far, and it was a combined effort Lynora, Dalesman, and myself to keep a class a player from the previous Agartha thread balanced.
Yeppers....and I don't have time to repeat that process again, so I'd strongly advise keeping it to what's been published. With the sheer volume of people here now, it's the only sane way to keep the new folks on a level playing field.
"Jim" Rivets |
Hrm.... I'm not quite sure how to introduce Jim. I was contemplating having him shipped in, after having been found in an old, forgotten Laboratory, having disassembled pretty much everything, but I'm not quite sure how believable that would be, and how likely it would be for him to actually be accepted into the school. The likelihood of actual admittance is slim. In any case, I have to go, but I'll post more tomorrow.
Asch Redgrave |
Hmmmm…Lynora do you have any issues with me taking the reins of Umbral? It'll make some stuff easier. Also not to sure own what being the Champion of darrkness gets me if anything with true seeing can see right through all my abilities. I'm thinking of adding a few things essentially one being shadow evocation/conjuration (vaguely like the main character from The Darkness graphic novel) the waistcoat vest (it'll make sense when I put the drawing online) allows Asch to always be treated as if he was in one level lower light. Bright becomes normal, normal becomes dim, dim becomes dark. And last would be any melee or ranged weapon is treated as if it had the frost and fire quality or shadow fire.
Questionable one would be a ray, line, single target, or touch attack of shadow fire (16d6 half cold damage half fire) let me know what you think.
Solivala |
Asch to me having a unbeatable miss chance is overpowered. Yes true seeing can overcome your abilities but even at high level very few monsters have it. Balors being one of them but then again I find a balor without some form of enchanced healing at that level suspect yet there you have it. Their are ways around true seeing that would be better then just blanket it with a champion power. For example when you create darkness its not so much a lack of light but a substance that you can control. (Yes I am treating darkness like Solivala's swarm) So he can call upon it to block out angles of sight on Asch, sense its semi solid substance it overcomes true seeing but it can be dealt with by a smart enemy who uses gust of wind or some other tactic to get rid of the stuff. Hell you can even use it in a combo with your shadow jumping power to get behind your enemy when its attacking your darkness stuff. Every power should have a weakness, if your enemy cant figure it out well its not your fault now is it. ;)
Just my 2c.
lynora |
Asch, I have absolutely no problem with you taking over Umbral.
I'm not familiar with The Darkness. Not sure what kind of mechanics we're talking about here. You've got a fair point about true seeing. At this point the majority of critters I'm sending against you guys are epic, and it seems like they all have true seeing even if it's totally ridiculous for them to have it. Shoot me an email and we can work out mechanics that work for you.
Filne Nathton |
Before Filne answers in the thread just want to run it by you.
He is going to let him in on his little lich condition, make you aware that he knows the real story about the dragons having shared a bit of history with them, and that he knows some are with in the school. But not who they are. Anything concerning his past I'll leave to rp.
Let me know if I have the go ahead. :)
Asch Redgrave |
As far as mechanics go I just meant normal shadow conjuration/evocation as spell like abilities. Nothing mechanically required, as for a permanent miss chance that'd be nice but it would still fail against true seeing. It's the other abilities that I'm hoping give him a boost against epic creatures.
Also for anyone who has read the iron elves books, I'm trying to base the shadow fire stuff off of the frost fire they have. I'm not really happy with putting actual fire in it since it had no heat yet still burned things to ashes. It was like a cold so cold it burned like fire. So I'm trying to figure out how to do that. Should it be cold all the way and just say it leaves ashes as if a real fire? Help me on this one.
Vai Emkar |
@Asch: Luckily, you have precedence for this sort of thing. The fire shield spell has a chill version. It looks like fire, and presumably still burns like fire, except it's cold damage. Easy enough to take the feat Energy Substitution (Cold), and simply consider any fire spell you cast as a cold spell instead, keeping both the fire descriptor and adding the cold descriptor.

Could work as is. One of the junk collectors could have found him while searching for old tech. Given her constant need for parts, Aananda would be known to quite a few junk collectors, so he could be sent to Avalon on the theory that the crazy lady might know what to do with him. ;P

I think I'll try to introduce myself now...is that okay? It seems like the best time so far...
I was thinking:
The Headmaster feels a light tap on his shoulder, and turns around to find a young elf looking at him curiously."Is everything well now?"
Now would be a good time to introduce yourself, but the headmaster is currently in a conference, so perhaps appraoching one of the other teachers would be a good idea. :)
lynora |
Iynora you mind looking at the above tabs between me and Ryo to make a call. :)
Already sent an email to DB3 on the subject. Clarified some points.

Sounds good.
