A Pathfinder Society Scenario designed for levels 7–11.
In Kaer Maga, the mysterious and dangerous cliffside City of Strangers in untamed Varisia, the Pathfinder Society will come face to face with a sect of the cult of Lissala who prey upon the city's most vulnerable denizens to increase their own power. To what end do they conduct the ancient Feast of Sigils ritual, and can the Pathfinders stop them before their evil plans come to fruition?

7d7 ⇒ (3, 5, 4, 1, 4, 7, 2) = 26
Please feel free to introduce your character in the Gameplay thread. Make sure to include any special or unusual abilities used in combat.
Levels appear to be... 11, 10, 8, 8, 11 and a question mark. That puts us definitely high tier.
GM.Kashka |
To have it up front, also please post your chronicle info in discussion:
example...

Alchemist 8
aspiring Arcane Archer 7
Illusionist 7
Dr. Zephyrus Vitruvian |

I'm not sure if I signed up with anything specific but it looks like August is free so I'll use him if it fits the party makeup. Let me know if I need to swap out.

Huritt Two-hoof |
Riddywipple has a wand of cure critical wounds and can use all of Huritt's scrolls. He's basically a backup cleric, but he's still a faerie dragon. He has a very short attention span, so if you need something from him, it helps to ask nicely and/or bribe him.
Here's my scroll list, and I am happy to use most of them on other characters:
ARCANE
- antimagic field
- break enchantment
- comprehend languages (2)
- dimension door
- fly
- locate object
- remove curse
- resist energy, communal (2)
- spider climb, communal
- stone shape (2)
- tongues (2)
DIVINE
- anti-incorporeal shell
- breath of life
- death ward
- delay poison, communal (2)
- invisibility purge
- neutralize poison
- remove blindness/deafness
- remove disease (2)
- remove paralysis (2)
- restoration, lesser (2)
- water walk (2)

I wasn't planning to get started until next week, but since everyone is roaring to go, and everyone's profiles are ready - here we go!
Shandor "The Beast" |
I'm currently at my chalet with very limited Internet access, I'll be fully operational on January 1st, after New Year's Eve. Happy new year everyone!

Dr. Zephyrus Vitruvian |
...I thought alchemist's couldn't use spell completion items?
Good catch, you're right. I'd forgotten about that.
"Nel" |
Heyy guys, I am larping this weekend so I won't be able to post from now. I should be back Sunday evening to post, if not Monday morning. (UK time)
Dr. Zephyrus Vitruvian |
Please remind me what our nominal quest here is?
Dr. V's still with the party in all regards, of course, but of all the things he does, schmoozing isn't normally one of them.
"Nel" |
To discover what the Lossala Cult are planning and disrupt their plans once we have worked out what they are. And i would guess rescue the girls that have been taken.
Dr. Zephyrus Vitruvian |
Can you take a 5-foot step when staggered? The wording's a bit on the fence.
"Nel" |
Two quick things sorry. It seems when I updated my tagline with my Mutagen it didn't save so my reflex is currently +16 making my save a 20 if that matters? I also have resistance 7 to electricity ^^.
Nadil al'Gurat |
Can you take a 5-foot step when staggered? The wording's a bit on the fence.
I'd say yes, since it's classified as "No Action"
GM.Kashka |
Yes you can 5 foot step.
20 still fails, i will take off the 7 damage from the resist
Huritt Two-hoof |
If you'll forgive some kibitzing, Huritt, I don't think that was a particularly good idea....
Here was the situation before I cast the spell:
Dr. Zephyrus, Huritt, Riddywipple, & August: Can't see any enemies.Nel: Can see orange and green.
Shandor, Eidolon & Nadil: Can see orange.
After the spell, we have:
Dr. Zephyrus, Huritt, Riddywipple, & August: same
Nel: same
Shandor: Lost sight of orange
Eidolon & Nadil: same
Shandor is the only PC who lost sight of an enemy. In exchange for that, we got:
Red: Lost sight of Dr. Zephyrus, Huritt and Riddywipple.
Green: Lost sight of Nel, Nadil and eidolon.
Orange: Lost sight of Shandor and Nel.
We lost sight of one target, they lost sight of eight targets. We now have three rounds of relative safety to prepare for their invisibility. And if Shandor makes both saves, then our side won't have lost any targets at all.
And don't forget, we have the ability to coordinate via telepathy and message.
Dr. Zephyrus Vitruvian |
I see. I thought the rest of us could see them now.
May *I* do my action over, in that case, DM?
GM.Kashka |
Only orange is visible due to glitterdust
@Dr z - i am fine if you do something else.
Shandor "The Beast" |
... and I'm invisible, so only Nel can see me (unless the wisps can see invisible creatures).
GM.Kashka |
So illusions.
How i have been running 'interactions' with this fog cloud is:
a) Move action to observe it
b) it negatively impedes your actions (ie attack actions that miss)
c) others will come up - i'm still thinking through walking through the cloud. if it were a wall obviously i would count as an interaction... so why not a fog? starting to lean towards allowing the save for that - but i have not been granting that to the wisps
Bonus to saving throw: If someone else saves and then tells everyone it is not an illusion, the CRB explicitly grants +4 on those circumstances.
The Wisp is granting that to everyone who speaks Aklo.
the +2 circumstance bonus is my own application of circumstance bonus - if you make the spellcraft of an illusion spell you would think the creation there of is an illusion? But if that were the case... every bad guy could spellcraft and then they would know it too... defeating the purpose of will saves. So the compromise my home game gm and my illusionist came up with is a +2 circumstance for a successful spellcraft (which is perfectly legal RAW)- but only if they don't have the +4 already.
Kindof a ramble but i don't want alot of confusion or mistrust based on how i run illusions.
here's my pre-game message to Huritt
Some concepts we settled on:
a Move action to carefully observe a suspected illusion is interacting.
If there is an intentional sensation at casting (as in Major Image alters the temperature of lava, cooling it around the enemy) that counts as an interaction.
If the enemy spellcrafts the spell as it is cast and sees the illusion generated, he gets a circumstance bonus to will save but does not automatically count as interacting just for making the spellcraft.
if i think of others i'll let you know - I am pretty liberal about allowing illusions to work... example of a character creating an egg around a prone ally: good times
Nadil al'Gurat |
Oh, you posted this while I made my posts. It won't make that much of a difference for the eidolon with its blindsight, but I guess Nadil moves at half speed out of the fog and casts his spell, then.
GM.Kashka |
I've added a buffs summary page to the slide show - i think i got everyone on there - go ahead and double check
GM.Kashka |
I run it in f2f for my spell casters... but the format turned me off on the slides... might do a google doc and link it from the slide show... hmmmm....
Huritt Two-hoof |
F2F, I print spells from Perram's spellbook and sleeve each one. I can then write on the sleeve with a wet erase marker and pass them out. It works both for loot when I'm the GM, and for buffs when I'm the caster.
"Nel" |
Fyi I will be spending the prestige points on being brouht back to life, assuming my body is brought back, that with the atonement is 26 prestige.
GM.Kashka |
Chronicles are posted here: Chronicles
I want to thank everyone for playing and sticking with it - the wisp fight was a challenge to get through.
I also want to applaud the players staying true to their character's ethos. I've never seen more than 1 player at a table reject an evil boon like that.
If you would be interested in another high level pbp with me, I would be willing to start one up in a couple weeks and can take requests. I think it gets easier on pbp with more familiarity between player to player and players to gm.

I must admit, I was borderline. I would have gone for it if you'd told me it was permanent - not that it comes up much, but Dr. Vitruvian's got a monomaniacal private life-quest sort of thing going that he might have taken it in the name of.
Not worth it to me if it's just 1 year, though, especially since I do all my Pathfinder Society adventuring by PbP now.
I have a feeling Something Will Happen eventually as some sort of grand consequence for these new Evil Boons they're offering now. My Illusionist (who's CG) was presented with one once, too, and as I recall, he was the only one in his party to turn it down.

For this character, I would be very interested in "You Only Die Twice," which I hear

Huritt is level 11, not oos.
fixed

Does that mean I should get less, being level 8, or did total player level adjustment bump us all up or something?
GM.Kashka |
We played 10-11 sub-tier with 4 player adjustment. If you are level 10 or 11 you get full gold. If you are level 7 8 or 9, you get out of subtier gold which is the average of the two.
"Nel" |
Chronicle looks good, cheers
Shandor "The Beast" |
Chronicle is good for me too. Thanks for running this scenario, I think it was in line with the other of the same informal series - looking forward to play the two last ones I'm missing (Words of the Ancient and The Waking Rune).
August Autumnwind |
August would have eaten a wafer if he was instructed to do so and given a convincing reason by someone in the party. Otherwise, its not his nature.
August Autumnwind |
Oh, and I'd be interested in another high-tier game when the time comes.
