Posted too early in the morning. :(

Doing one more post and then handing the reins over to GM Sedoriku for a couple of days.
Keep it going!
GM Sedoriku |
The lights rise and a shifting mass of papers wafts on to the stage in time to shrill flute sounds wearing a mask that looks like a well-cultured half-orc...
Hello! I'm your back up GM for the next day and a half! It seems that Bret has moved you on to the next round of combat, so there's not too much I can do right now.
Ischell |
Welcome!
Just so you know, Ischell is a monk that has a reach weapon and combat reflexes- when it comes to determining AoO.
Thanks for stepping in!
GM Sedoriku |
Thank-you!
I had guessed as much, seeing as you seem to camp out 10 feet away and then roll AoOs. You're using a double chained kama, right?
Glad to help!
Grubglub |
I really like that double chained kama and am seriously considering it for GrubGlub! It looks to be exactly what I was looking for when I picked up the 9 section whip!
Ischell |
Ischell saw another monk using one, and decided it was a good idea! He originally used a pole arm (and flavor wise I still MUCH prefer the pole arm) but the ability to flurry and reach was just too much to pass up. It doesn't do a ton of damage (d6, doesn't scale) but all things considered its a great weapon.
The text clearly states that you can use the Kamas at reach or adjacent (1.5x str at reach, 1x Str adjacent)
GM Sedoriku |
They've always been a weapon that appealed to me, but I haven't made a monk since unchained came out, and the base monk needs to spend a feat to get it. It's certainly one of the better monk weapons out there!
Grubglub |
And what weapon is that, GM Sedoriku?
Ischell: Thanks for the notes and opinion.. I really look forward to what GrubGlub can do with this! He has a snag net for reach, but I don't think he's ever even used it effectively in combat.
Ischell |
Oh yea, and it also has trip- though it isn't something Ischell does often (only as an AoO against foes trying to charge or close on him). You can also attempt to sunder without provoking (most of the time)- its kind of a cheesy combat style but it certainly can help against BBEG
Ischell |
I am going out of the country for the next 2 weeks, and will have very limited access to internet. I should be able to post once a day, but there may be some days I can't make that happen.
More importantly, the next 48 hours is all travel and will be tough to me to post. Please feel free to bot me as needed.
GM Bret |
For the social portion, it may be better if one of the players bot Ischell.
Enapaishni |
I have a double shift today. Will check in again a little after 7pm EST. If the combat needs to move forward without me, I'll cast burst of radiance (3d4 damage) on the dragon or heal any ally with a wand of CLW if anybody is on the ropes.
GM Bret |
I will not be able to update for another 8 or more hours.
By that time, I expect that we will transition to the next section.
Provided no one is unconscious, there is no need to heal. Time will do that.
Ischell |
Sorry guys. I am on radio silence for the next 24-48 hours while I travel back from Africa to the US. I swear I checked into the game and didn't see any updates, but I guess I was just sleep deprived.
I apologize for holding things up...

I'm not really understanding the "portal thru the trees" thing. If they can open a portal straight to the BBEG, why don't we just go there? It's not already opened and we're on a timer is it? Can they keep the minions from using it?
GM Bret |
You can open it now. The minions will do their best to protect it, but they can not travel through the portal.
Basically, lots of tables convinced the spirits that they should help and because of that you can create a gate there.
The only complication is it has to be between two trees. There are no trees on the island with the seed pods.
It is a free action to call on the spirits to create the portal.
Ischell |
Even though he passed the save, puppy will still have a -2 to AC for the next round though, correct?
GM Bret |
So, we are approaching the end of this special. That means it is time to roll for boons!
It is a 1 in ten chance to win a player boon. GMs can either roll for their entire table or allow players to roll for themselves. GMs are ‘players’ too when it comes to rolling for GM boons! A natural 19 or a 20 wins a boon.
So everyone please roll a d20 here, no modifiers.
Boon roll, GM: 1d20 ⇒ 2
If you get a natural 19 or 20, roll 1d4 to determine which boon you get.
Thanks and I hope you all have had fun at my table of Solstice Scar C!
Ischell |
Boons Please!: 1d20 ⇒ 8
Which one, because I am optimistic: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Zarnel the Torn |
Boon?: 1d20 ⇒ 15
Close, but no cigar.
GM Bret |
@Mun,
Please roll your day job now.
You said you were going to wait until the end and might pass depending on faction goals. If you haven’t filled it already, this adventure would qualify for “In the course of an adventure, purify a corrupted object or location, or remove an evil force that is possessing or otherwise controlling a creature” from the Season 9 card. Ask if you are unsure on other goals.
@Pai,
Please PM me the e-mail address you want your boon sent to.
@Grubglub,
Please roll for a boon.
@Everyone,
I will be working on the chronicle sheets later today.
Ask if you are wondering about a faction goal and I will check.
Mun of Ashava |
Craft (jewelry), traveler's any-tool: 1d20 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 4 = 10
Shirt reroll: 1d20 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 + 4 = 18
Did we defeat a divine spellcaster of an evil deity, of at least CR 4?
GM Bret |
Red was a CN 4th level Druid. :(
Sorry, although they were certainly working with evil I do not see anything indicating they worshipped an evil deity.
GM Bret |
In case you haven’t seen it elsewhere yet, here is a link to the mid-point survey.
Zarnel the Torn |
There's not much detail about the breastplate we recovered in the final Overseer post. Is there any more background on it in the scenario (for RP purposes for Zarnel)? Would it meet the requirements for the Silver Crusade Season 10 goal below?
"In the course of an adventure, recover a relic or artifact associated with a good-aligned deity or a holy crusade."
GM Bret |
I will check, but I don’t think so because there are no statistics for the armor in the scenario.
GM Bret |
I asked the Overseer GM and they ruled it counts.
I would say that armor definitely qualifies as a relic of a good-aligned deity, and it is certainly a relic of a holy crusade.
Anyone in the Silver Crusade can check that box!
@Pai,
Still need an e-mail to send your boon to before I can report the game.
Nigel Flit |
This looks great to me! Thank you for running this!
I hope to see the everyone around on the boards!
