Vuloo |

Vuloo frowns, "The magical auras on the Sarcophagus well could be traps. Should we risk opening it? Though risky, I'm tempted to say yes. The prospect of finding a Runelord is difficult to resist. Alternatively, we can always circle back later."

Relan* |

Satisfied that these statue are not about to animate and attack Relan shoots a last suspicious look at one joins the others.
I'd bet all I own that a Runelord will be better protected that this. Relan speculates. Still this might be a minor servant to one, or some magical lesser copy, but even the tomb of such a lesser one could be quite valuable. I say open it. But I will also point out that we have the rest of this place to explore if we wish.

Levelle Mahe |

Sorry folks the holiday week started early in the family drama dept. I apologize if my posting is a bit spotty this week.
Levelle nods after the tiefling and takes a knee near the tracks, looking things over...
Survival: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31
They were carrying 35 cents in loose change and holding hands. Also they went *that* way

DMFflash |

Levelle determines that a medium sized party of armored humanoids passed through here several days ago. More recently a single individual has gone out and back in. Based on the size and weight, Levelle guesses they were female or smallish men. They took the western corridor and only 1 person approached the sarcophagus.

Relan* |

Hmm. So perhaps the tomb has already been looted and maybe a trap left behind? And how do you read that one member of the party came back alone to do the looting? Maybe that group chose as a group to not loot the tomb and that one person later dissented?

Vuloo |

Vuloo shrugs, "Perhaps the armored knights that the Boggards mentioned passed through here. They may have kneeled down to provide tribute. Who can say? There's only one way to find out if the Sarcophagus's contents are still in tact. Let's open it! Everyone stand back and get ready."
Vuloo waits for the others to prepare.

Relan* |

Relan moves up to help with the lid. He examines the seam to see if there is any type of seal before readying his crowbar and asking Ready?.

Vuloo |

Vuloo turns to the others, "This sarcophagus could contain any manner of guardian or trap. Stand back and be prepared for anything."
He then helps Relan leverage the heavy lid. "Let's just open it several inches so that we can look inside."
Strength Check, aid other: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (13) - 2 = 11

DM Fflash |

With a heavy heave you're able to shift the sarcophagus lid over and peer in. Within the sarcophagus lies the perfect body of a woman identical to the one depicted on the lid, clad in diaphanous flimsy robes and an enormous amount of splendid jewelry. She looks almost as if she’s sleeping. The body radiates warmth although the chest does not rise and fall.

Andel gasps, holding his hand over his mouth while pointing with the other. He staggers back a couple steps. "That's ... that's ... that's Sorshen!"

Vuloo |

No ranks in knowledge arcana unfortunately
Vuloo frowns, "I'm afraid Relan is correct, this can't possibly be the true Sorshen. With the power that the Runelords had at their disposal, they would not leave their mortal remains unprotected. It must be an illusion or magical trick."
Vuloo attempts to discern if the woman is illusory. He then reaches out and touches the woman's arm with trepidation.
Will: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16

Vuloo |

Vuloo will detect magic directly on the woman, "The sarcophagus radiated strong auras of necromancy and transmutation. I suspect she will have the same auras."

DMFflash |

Before you do that. ..
Vuloo touches the woman's arm and her eyes pop open. She sits up immediately growing in front of you as she steps out of the sarcophagus. She continues to grow, crouching as her head reaches the vaulted ceiling. Speaking an arcane language none of you recognize, she reaches out with a massive hand to spray a cone of magical fire washing across all of you.
I need EVERYONE to make a Will save followed by a Fort Save. I'll handle Andel. Hold tight on further actions until I adjudicate.

Relan* |

Does this movement provoke from Relan since he has combat reflexes? Its possible that both the movement and the casting could provoke...
Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Fort: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

DM Fflash |

You immediately recognize the illusion for what it is and the danger passes.
You grit your teeth as the burning flame washes over you and your heart skips a beat as fear seizes it, but you power through the pain. The giant Runelord disappears after casting the spell.
You each take 3d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 6) = 11 damage
Glancing in the sarcophagus, you notice everything is as it originally appeared when you opened it.

Relan* |

Surviving the fire Relan wonders for a moment where the giant woman went but then something inside the sarcophagus catches his eye. What a waste to leave these pretty baubles here. He reaches into the sarcophagus and begins to remove a necklace of lapis lazuli which he fastens around his neck. What do you think? he asks as he begins to reach for the woman's ear rings.

Vuloo |

Vuloo wipes the sweat from his brow, "It was only an illusion! I thought we were doomed for a moment."
Vuloo looks annoyed as Relan tries on the necklace, "Relan, this is no time to be trying on jewelry!" He snatches the earrings from Relan's hand, "These are precious artifacts, not trinkets for you to wear!"
Vuloo stares at the earrings in wonder, "They are beautiful though ... "
Vuloo detects magic on the woman and the jewelry.

Relan* |

Relan shoots Vuloo a greedy look and quickly begins grabbing up and donning the rings. Its just for now. I am only going to wear them until we get back to civilization. he explains.

Vuloo |

Vuloo smiles at Relan and hands over the earrings, "They'll look better on you than me, my friend."
He returns his attention to the woman. "She has been preserved through magic. This is either the runelord Shorshen, or a meticulous facsimile. Either way, this is an incredible find. I wonder if she can be woken?"
Vuloo checks for a pulse or any other sign of life. He gently shakes the woman and pries back her eye lids.
Heal: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Levelle Mahe |

The hunter offers a strained look to the lore warden, Are we certain that is wise? To wear the ornamentation of a dead Runelord? Perhaps one of us trained in arcane arts might look them over and ensure they are safe?

Vuloo |

Vuloo backs away from the body and scratches his head, "The body is not alive, yet it is in perfect condition. Perhaps we may come upon other clues here in these chambers that would provide more information. I suggest we put the lid back on the sarcophagus for now and keep going."
Vuloo shrugs at Levelle, "Well, I doubt this is the actual dead Runelord if that makes you feel any better. It is a good point that we should check if the jewelry is magical."
Vuloo will detect magic on each piece of jewelry.

Relan* |

Relan continues to adorn himself with the jewelry until he is wearing it all. Too much? he asks the others but turns away before you can answer, obviously not interested in your opinion. Maybe this body is simply under some type of preservation magic. She seems dead to me. It is interesting that the one person came back but did not disturb the sarcophagus or take any of this wonderful jewelry.

Relan* |

Speaking of which.
Even though some of you said that fire was not real, it seems to have damaged me all the same. Could I get some healing?

Levelle Mahe |

Levelle starts to open her mouth again in protest but the lack of magic on the jewelry and the lack of concern from the others causes her to second guess, I am new to the group, perhaps I best stay quiet for now...
It does seem strange that this would be here unmolested. Perhaps it was simply that the other group was in a hurry?

Vuloo |

Vuloo will heal Relan.
CLW: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Vuloo shrugs at Levelle, "Impossible to say. But I suspect that we may run into this group eventually. Are we ready to keep going?"

Vuloo |

Vuloo looks to see if he can see the footprints in the dust.
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
"I suggest we follow the tracks, if we can. Levelle, are you able to follow them?"
Vuloo begins heading down the western corridor.

Relan* |

Relan touches the necklace at his neck absentmindedly as Vuloo speaks. Yes, lets get on with this. he says as he readies his Ranseur and takes point.

Moving on and for the sake of expediency, I'll give exploration in both directions. Please use headers to separate actions. See Dungeon Crawl Mode under the Campaign Tab if you need more info
River Balcony
Tracks head this way ...
The hall opens here onto a balcony overlooking a subterranean river flowing leisurely to the east. The waters of the river are dark, while the walls and ceiling above are a breathtaking array of earthtones, the natural stone polished and smooth.
Red Panel
The hallway ends at an immense panel of reddish metal is nearly twenty feet tall and ten feet wide. Dozens of scenes have been carved into individual one-foot-square frames on the panel. These scenes chronicle a beautiful woman engaged in a magical incantation involving some sort of winged creatures.
