Fortified Position Round 5 Cont

Initiative: Braelex, Clarence, Filth Flingers, Stirges, Fulmen, Relan, Jousters, Lorlenn, Andel

Fulmen drops the mist making everyone adjust to the sudden sight picture. Goblins are visible in the rafters above Fulmen, above Clarence and above the crates. Relan and Fulmen see the stirges, and the fighter breaks over to assist Lorlenn while Fulmen switches to throwing darts at the goblin above him, trying not to vomit as he dusts off the remaining vileness from his body. His dart thunks into the rafter above him and Relan can't connect with the stirge.

Across the "pond" the goblin drops from the ceiling and ducks behind a crate, pulling the crossbow down with him.

Lorlenn attacks with his morningstar, swinging wide and missing the quick little creature. Andel tosses a dagger up in the air but it too just misses the goblin hiding amongst the beams.

Fortified Position Round 6

Braelex nearly slips off the edge while she swaps to a melee weapon and reaches out. Trapped between the door and Braelex, Clarence pulls out a heavy weighted sap and takes a mighty swing at the stirge which darts out of the way, "Yer wan' me to open this here door, Relan?"he bellows out.

The goblins above each throw another pouch of filth although these appear to be their last, their tosses go straight into the drink and both of them bare their teeth and waggle their hands, thumbs in ears at the group.

The stirges dart in, the nimble Clarence moves aside, but Lorlenn isn't so lucky and the giant mosquito creature sticks its probiscis straight into him and begins pumping his blood out.

Fulmen throws and misses with yet another dart.

At Relan and NPCs for action in Round 6. Everyone else for 7

Initiative: Braelex, Clarence, Filth Flingers, Stirges, Fulmen, Relan, Jousters, Lorlenn, Andel

Relan sees the attached stirge and strikes at the now stationary target lopping it's head off.

Across the pond, the little goblin jumps up with the massive crossbow and fires with a great twang and a little giggle as he sends the wobbly bolt toward Fulmen, missing wide.

Lorlenn pulls the rest of the creature out of his body and switches to his crossbow, firing at the goblin across the way, but thunking the bolt into the crate it's using as cover. He moves to the corner of the room

Andel looks like he might crawl down into the water/sludge but hesitates.

Fortified Position Round 7

Braelex and Clarence engage the stirge and the trapper connects clobbering it on the head with his sap and the creature lazily flies down to land ungracefully and unmoving in the sewage.

The goblin above Fulmen hops down to the ground and stabs at him but comes short. The other one moves to the southern part of the rafters and hops down next to him.

Fortified Position Round 7 cont

Initiative: Braelex, Clarence, Filth Flingers, Fulmen, Relan, Jousters, Lorlenn, Andel

Fulmen and Relan attack their respective goblins and the wily little monsters caper about dodging their blows. Across the way, the third goblin ducks down to reload.

"Let's increase the odds," Lorlenn whispers as he touches Relan. Activate bit o' luck

Andel reaches out and pulls a dart off Fulmen's bandolier, saying "Excuse me," to the half-elf as he does so. He holds it aloft waiting for the crossbowman.

Fortified Position (aka Whiff fest 2013) Round 8

Braelex and Clarence take the opportunity to retrieve and reload their weapons of choice.

The goblins stab back out at the druid and cleric and one scores a nick on Lorlenn.

Bit of luck is actually the reroll, which you don't need because you'll hit and kill the creature with the roll above. Just for future reference :)

@Braelex, Lorlenn will come touch you next, so feel free to reroll now

Male Human Fighter - level 2

Oops.. its a double roll? heh.

Female Azlanti Pureblood Alchemist (Trap Breaker) 10

Fortified Position Round 8 cont

Initiative: Braelex, Clarence, Filth Flingers, Fulmen, Relan, Jousters, Lorlenn, Andel

Fulmen exchanges a series of thrusts and parries with his opponent but fails to get through. Relan carves through his with a great blow to the head and then steps over his dead body to flank Fulmen's opponent. (Took a little liberty here, but flanking gives you both +2 to hit)

The little goblin behind the crate pops back up and fires a bolt at Clarence seeing him and Braelex pick up their weapons. This goblin struggles with the monstrous weapon and shoots the bolt into the ceiling.

Lorlenn moves to Relan's spot and instills Braelex with a bit of luck. Andel pulls another dart from Fulmen's belt and chucks it across the way, sticking it in the goblin's ear who scowls and turns his head to look at Fulmen as both Braelex and Clarence's bolts just miss.

Fortified Position Round 9

The goblin with the dagger spins twice and decides to attack the unarmored druid sticking him in the thigh.

At Fulmen, there was no need for Braelex to delay since the goblin popped up to shoot on his turn

Fortified Position Round 9 (cont)

Initiative: Braelex, Clarence, Filth Flingers, Fulmen, Relan, Jousters, Lorlenn, Andel

Fulmen takes advantage of the flank and attempts a spinning strike with his staff which the goblin nimbly jumps over, lining him up perfectly for a thrust to the back of the neck by Relan. A quick spray of black blood and it's over the little monster.

The crossbow goblin takes one look at the carnage and drops his weapon and runs up the wall and along the rafters. He's almost out of the room when Braelex's bolt catches him in the side. Clarence attempts to shoot him as well, but misses.

END COMBAT if you wish, or you can pursue the remaining goblin. The three dead goblins you can reach easily have only their small leather armor and small dogslicers on them

And assuming you open the door to the north

Map here

Dead End

This chamber has no floor, opening directly into the sump of a sewage pit below. Likewise, the charred ceiling has fallen away, revealing the fire-blackened rafters above. Next to a hole cut in the southwest corner of the wall, a crude ladder that has been nailed to the wall provides access to the rafters above.

The Dice:

Clarence vs Jouster: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Goblin Climb: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

Female Azlanti Pureblood Alchemist (Trap Breaker) 10

Braelex nearly chokes from the 'fresh' infusion of sewage odor. "Why are we here again? I can't imagine Vancaskerkin would make this her abode." Frowning, she takes a moment to look over the room ahead. "Doesn't look like we can get through here. If we take the plank from the entryway, we might be able to bridge to the fort, and climb up there. Any other ideas?" Regardless, she makes for the front door, and fresh air.

Thinking a bridge between where Fulmen's icon is and the fort. Or maybe sling a rope on the rafter and swing across?

Male Half-elf Druid 3 Monk 2

Dead End

"I have some rope. If someone can get boosted up to the rafters we can get the rest of us up there."

How high up are the rafters?

They are about 9 feet.

Either plan is fine, let me know which one you want to try and from what squares. Note: the plank is currently in the sewage.

Female Azlanti Pureblood Alchemist (Trap Breaker) 10

Braelex gets to the ledge, sees the fallen plank and sighs. "When did that happen?" she mutters, more annoyed with having to endure the fumes than the obstacle. She turns back to Fulmen, "Looks like its the rope plan... but I think a swing line would be easier than trying to climb everyone up."

Tie an weighted anchor, toss a rope over the top, and swiiinng! Sound good?

Swinging across to the goblins barricade, I'm assuming?

Grand Lodge

You guys should definitely check upstairs, Natalya might be unconscious up there or something. If not, perhaps she set this place up as a trap for anyone who came looking for her.

Or the Tower Girls got to her first and set this place up as a trap. If she's not here, go after the blonde chick in the yellow armor that Fulmen saw on the other roof.

Female Azlanti Pureblood Alchemist (Trap Breaker) 10

Yes, and we can hopefully use the ladder once there.

Male Half-elf Druid 3 Monk 2

"My plan is to climb up to the rafters and tie the rope halfway across the room to use to swing from. Guess I should have said that earlier. We want to swing over to the ladder in other room, right?"

Fulmen looks over at Relan, "Can you give me a boost up to the rafters?"

Male Half-elf Druid 3 Monk 2

Here's a climb roll if you need it.

Climb: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

While I'm up there, after tying off the rope on a sturdy rafter beam, I'll take a look around.

Male Half-elf Druid 3 Monk 2

Two perception roles per DM request.

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22

Precarious Crossing

With help, Relan easily boosts Fulmen up on to the rafter. They are about 8 inches wide and are solidly built, easily supporting your weight.

Movement on the rafters requires a DC10 Acrobatics check per move action. You can take a +5 bonus by crawling but you move at 1/4 speed

The druid looks around and is in the process of securing his rope when he notices the rafter he's securing it to bends just slightly. Looking much closer, it appears that both the middle rafters (not the one he's on) to the west have been 90% sawed through. Should any weight be applied to that side of the rafter, it would likely collapse.

He's able to find a secure point and secure the rope on the second rafter over, creating a rope swing.

Probably only safely room for 2-3 of you at a time over there. Who's going?

Male Half-elf Druid 3 Monk 2

After a couple people have swung across I'll move to the north and west (above the ladder). I'm looking to see into the nw room and also in the rafters for any more goblins. I'll crawl keeping a lookout and listening for more sabotaged rafters and other baddies.

Acro checks

acro: 1d20 + 1 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 1 + 5 = 25

acro: 1d20 + 1 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 1 + 5 = 23

acro: 1d20 + 1 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 1 + 5 = 20

Perception checks

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12

Male Human Fighter - level 2

Relan gives Fulmen a boost up and waits to cross.

Female Azlanti Pureblood Alchemist (Trap Breaker) 10

Braelex can cross first.

Looks like there's only room for 2, so I'll assume Braelex and Relan with Clarence and the others standing at the door for now

The tiefling and the warrior swing across without much trouble. It's more of a guided jump considering how far or rather not far it is across.

Once on the other side, Braelex pokes her head through the hole and notes the ladder.

Perception DC15:

The ladder is rotten and doesn't look like it will bear the weight of a full-sized humanoid.

Relan checks the goblins, there are 3 of them each with a dogslicer and leather armor (small for both) as well as 2 medium-sized heavy crossbows and 15 bolts total.

Female Azlanti Pureblood Alchemist (Trap Breaker) 10

Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

Braelex takes a few of the bolts to replenish her quiver.

Relan, only 3 players here, currently ... need some input

Male Human Fighter - level 2

Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 8

Relan grabs a few bolts and looks around.

Sorry kinda lost at were we are, are we by the ladder going up yet? Or a door?

Hmm, I didn't repost the map ... my bad. You and Braelex are on the crates in the NW corner of the room you were fighting in. The NPCs are back on the east side south of the now open door. Fulmen is in the rafters above them. There is a hole in the wall next to Braelex and she sees the ladder that is reachable by you both

Male Human Fighter - level 2

Relan smiles at Braelex and motions to the ladder, "Ladies first" he half-bows with a grin.
