About the teams. They are not set, I want you to organize...
1) Try to make them balanced
2) Watch out with the creation feats, if you want half price, your team must have the corresponding feats
Tomorrow I will take a look and give you some proposals for teams, but it will be your choice.
BTW: I liked the idea that you spend some time on your own, with your own back story, and only in the last 2 or 3 years you have been adventuring together (with big success, I must add).

Venetia Medvyed |

Personally I wrote my back story so that the last 3 years of their lives were when the adventuring takes place with the party because I didn't want to force everyone else to be as old as Venetia :)
1. We should brief each other on our characters. The important points are the crux of your background and personality, your character's role in the adventuring team, and access to any Item Creation feats. That's what I'd need to know.
2. Per the introduction, we need to document two descriptions of previous adventurers to get a feel for our team. We need some ideas. Maybe we have a name for our team. Anyone want to volunteer to actually write it?
3. I would suggest we also document why we all decided to take this commission to settle the Stolen Lands as a prologue.
1. Venetia (Paladin5/Noble Scion2) and Tarina (Oracle of Nature6) Medvyed. Venetia is Tarina's mother (in case anyone has missed that), both of them worship Arshea. Venetia is not one for lasting relationships, and ultimately only loves her daughter, despite that she'll sleep with just about anyone. Tarina is a little more committed then her mother, but she does not believe in tying herself down to only one person (she is a polygamist, she commits to lasting relationships, just not exclusive ones). Tarina also spent two years of her life as a male by the name of Arrin after her form became more androgynous then normal for a half elf (so there may end up being NPCs that refer to her as Arrin (Plot hook?)). Tarina is very dedicated to Arshea. Neither Venetia nor Tarina have access to any crafting feats.
2. Well Salereon Gavriil wrote an encounter with storm giants that included Venetia and Tarina, we could further expand upon that. As for the adventure in a town, Venetia could be getting the rest of the party to help her hide the fact that Tarina is her daughter from a noble who has connections to House Medvyed (since Venetia could lose face, or worse she's scared the house would take her daughter).
3. Venetia wants to keep Tarina close to her, and that is not a choice in Brevoy, Venetia and Tarina have already been wandering the river kingdoms and feel that the stolen lands would be a good place as any to settle down.

GM Arkwright |

Very open to thoughts.
Wordstrike (Su): At 3rd level, the sound striker bard can spend 1 round of bardic performance as a standard action to direct a burst of sonically charged words at an object within 100ft + 10ft per bard level. This performance deals sonic damage equal to 1d4 points of damage for every two bard levels the bard possesses, plus the bard’s Charisma modifier, to an unattended object.
Wordblast (Su): At 6th level, a sound striker can start a performance as a standard action, blasting a 10ft-radius burst within 100ft + 10ft per bard level with potent discordant gibberish, dealing sonic damage equal to 1d4 per bard level plus the bard's charisma modifier. Targets in the area can make a fortitude save to avoid half of the damage. This performance is highly taxing on the bard and requires him to spend a number of performance rounds equal to 1/2 his bard level to use the effect each round. This performance is tuned for living ears, and cannot be used to affect objects, attended or otherwise.

GM Arkwright |

GM, how do you handle retraining skill points? Once Irra reaches level 6, she gets to use her bonus from a Perform skill in the place of the bonus for two other skills; so once she levels, those two other skills become useless. Would Irra be able to shift around a few points after levelup?
EDIT: For cohorts, same character generation rules as for PCs, except lower level and lower gold?

Very open to thoughts. Wordstrike (Su) Wordblast (Su)
Wordstrike (Su): At 3rd level, the sound striker bard can spend 1 round of bardic performance as a standard action to direct a burst of sonically charged words at an object within 25ft + 5ft every 2 bard levels. This performance deals sonic damage equal to 1d4 points of damage for every two bard levels, plus the bard’s Charisma modifier, to an unattended object, ignoring the hardness of the object. It also deals damage to constructs and creatures made of solid materials (rock, metal) and double damage to crystalline creatures.
Making the range short, but making it ignore the hardness (you saw the Dune video?), and including specific creatures as "vulnerables) to the effect.Wordblast (Su): At 6th level, a sound striker can start a performance as a standard action, blasting a 10ft-radius burst within 100ft + 10ft per bard level with potent discordant gibberish, dealing sonic damage equal to 1d6 per bard level (maximum 10d6) plus the bard's charisma modifier, deafening the targets the bards charisma modifier rounds. Targets in the area can make a fortitude save to avoid half of the damage and the deafened condition. This performance is tuned for living ears, and cannot be used to affect objects, attended or otherwise. Crystalline creatures suffer double damage, and the targets must be able to hear to be affected (not deaf nor in a silence zone).
Made it stronger, I think is not overpowered, even if is useful against casters. Make some creatures immune and others vulnerables to it.
What do you think?
About the skills, I would say no, but we can discuss when the time comes.
And about the cohorts, yes, same rules, different level and the GP and magic item limits I wrote yesterday.

Dylos wrote:As twisted as it might seem, I think I've figured out Venetia's story feat, True Love (Tarina). This will make more sense with her full history, which I am in the process of writing currently. But basically, the explanation is simply this: Tarina is the only person Venetia has ever truly loved.
Arshea seems to accept such a relationship, and I had intended to put subtle hints that certain things happen between the two women on occasion, but it's really the only story feat I see fitting Venetia, her love for her daughter is truly her strongest motivation for everything that she does.I like the idea, it seems like a good Story feat for her, but I would like to propose a change.
Goal: Do the ultimate sacrifice for the one you love.
Do you like it? (And it doesn't necessarily means that she die for her daughter, but maybe let her go, or let her be, or something we figure out in the campaign).
BTW: Congratulations! I wouldn't miss the Medvyed's girls in this campaign for anything!
Certainly sounds better then never getting the completion benefit or getting it only to lose it again. With her fear of losing her child, letting her go is not something she is obviously willing to do at this point, so a goal that possibly involves letting her go would take some major character growth.

Arv Akul'mar |

Oh so much has happened. Thanks for letting me in.
to answer Szymon's points
1. Arv Akul'mar (Half orc Alchemist 4 (vivisectionist)/ Fighter 3 (cad) and my cohort is Mulray Gasparo - who was a wagon driver we had hired, but never left... and still refers to it as the "best job ever".
Arv has gone through phases dealing with issues of having been born the product of an unsavory experience. He was raised by his uncle in a mainly orc bandit settlement near Pitax, and his driving fantasy is leveling the place... conquering Pitax. He values keeping his composure, communication in combat, and looking presentable. He has an armlength tentacle sprouting from the center of his chest. The tentacle is used in combat for disarming, repositioning, smearing ground pepper in eyes... otherwise it is hidden in his blousy clothing.
Arv has Brew Potion
Mulray has Craft Wondrous Item, both have +10 spellcraft.
2. I'd be happy to be included in some storm giant fighting.
Once I get a better idea of everyone's characters I might have some thoughts.
3. Arv is in it for the glory and the shaping of a civilization. He wants word of his success to travel to those who knew him. He has always known he was meant for something big... guess this is it.

Szymon Wojcik |

I was redoing magic items to the new rules this morning. I probably will change my cohort's feat from Craft Wand to Wondrous Item (Spellcraft +8) if no other teammate possesses it.
Corsario, I'm sorry to bug you again about the equipment rules. However, my cohort can't have a +1 magic weapon and masterwork full plate armor with your rules. This doesn't seem to be a big stretch for a 5th level character with 10,000 gp of wealth. Can we change something?
Maybe use the open content guidelines?
PCs that are built after 1st level should spend no more than 25% of their wealth on weapons, 25% on armor and protective devices, 25% on other magic items, 15% on disposable items like potions, scrolls, and wands, and 10% on ordinary gear and coins.
EDIT Thinking about this more. Fighters need more weapons; I personally like a golfbag of weapons. Wizards need more non-weapons. So some latitude should be allowed.
I don't think you should allow us to enjoy the cheaper prices of our team Craft Item feats until AFTER the game starts unless the specific character and cohort have the feat. The alchemist should be able to use his brew potion. And wizard, his scribe scroll. Everyone else can keep cash to create items after we've started, when we've established a stronghold and time to create. Otherwise, these wealth limits by level will be significantly exceeded.
my two coppers
thanks

Arden Darist |

Ok for some reason I've not been able to create a profile for my new alias the last day or so. I keep getting redirected to a page for Gygax magazine for some unknown reason. I'll have a Arden's profile properly set up as soon as I'm able but for the moment I just wanted to get what I have for his background up so he's properly in consideration.
Corsario, you had mentioned an heirloom magical disguise or some sort for Arden's Songbird persona and so I left that part unfinished until I have some idea of how that might work. Otherwise just let me know what you think once you have a chance to read through it. Thanks!
Arden Darist was born just another halfling slave in service to the chelish nobility. When he was but a small boy his father saved the life of a Brevish noble's son in a terrible fire. In thanks, Lord Thurgood Lebeda offered his father any request within his power to grant. Having lived the harsh life of a chelish slave, the decision was easy for Arden's father. He asked that the Lord adopt his son and give him a chance for a better life than could be hoped for under the harsh chelish rule. Lord Thurgood agreed without hesitation, and Arden was purchased from his owners in short order. After tear-filled goodbyes Arden embarked with the Lebeda's, elated by his newfound freedom but guilty at leaving his family to suffer a slave's existence. Upon returning to Brevoy and explaining the situation, Lord Thurgood's family were quick to accept the halfling boy as one of their own. From then on Arden's life was that of most lesser nobles, his days filled with study and training in various forms of combat alongside his adopted brother Reese. Arden found he had little interest in academic pursuits, he appreciated beauty and longed to create it. He spent much of his time pestering the aging silversmith in the village or carving small figurines. He would shirk his chores for no more reason than to watch the sunset from the large hill near the fields. Luckily Arden's adopted aunt, the Lady Kathryn was a retired member of the Shelyn clergy and took a special interest in the boy. She taught him of art and music, guided him to see the joy of the world's beauty as a religious experience. Showed him that bringing forth even more of the world's beauty was something a life could be devoted to and be well spent. Arden took these lessons to heart. Together with the help of Lady Katheryn, he made the somewhat conservative estate he now called home the focus of his youthful ambition. Rosebushes were planted along the border of every field, the estate garden made larger and the stream nearby diverted to wind through it. Tapestries, paintings and ironwork were crafted to bring the halls to life. By the time Arden was coming of age he was proud to think one might mistake the manor proper for a temple to his beloved Eternal Rose.
It was shortly after Arden's 21st birthday that life for the Labeda's took a turn for the worse. Bandit activity in the surrounding area began to rise, caravan's were attacked, farms burned and kidnappings became more frequent. When looked into, the source of the attacks seemed to be somewhere within the neighboring territory of Swordlord Tyrell Tarson. As a result Lord Tryell was tasked with routing out the brigands and he promptly commited his forces to the task. In the following months there was a noticeable drop in the rate of attacks. The sole exception being the Lebeda's lands where the violence had only seemed to escalate. It seemed to Lord Thurgood that the bandit's plaguing their land were in fact becoming better armed and organized as time passed. Several small villages and farming communities were raised entirely, traveling the region without a large escort became increasingly perilous and nowhere seemed safe. When Lord Thurgood confronted Lord Tryrell about his inability to stamp out the source of these attacks and requested leave to commit his own force to the task he was met with hostility. Lord Tyrell asserted that he had made great headway in dealing with the threat as evidenced by the drop in activity outside the Lebeda lands. He proposed that the devastation sustained by the Labeda lands was a product of Lord Thurgoods inability to live up to his responsibilities as their protector. Deeply insulted Lord Thurgood took has case to the King but Lord Tyrell seemed well ahead of him. He presented dozens of reports claiming that his own lands were encountering the same level of violence but that he was able to swiftly counter it at nearly every turn. Lord Tyrell claimed that lord Thurgood's advancing age had robbed him of the ability to see to his duties. In a shocking counter he petitioned to be granted temporary control of the worst affected Labeda lands so that he might turn back the destruction much as he was doing in his own holdings. Lord Thurgood was able to shoot down the proposal but he knew it was only a matter of time the way things were going. As long as Lord Tyrell sought to use this situation to his advantage it was in his best interest to fail at locating the bandits and the attacks would continue.
For Arden's part he knew something had to be done. These raider's were destroying everything his family held dear and threatening all the beauty he had hoped to foster. He had the abilities to track them but Lord Thurgood was forbidden from committing any forces within Lord Tyrell's borders. There would be consequences if he was caught seen withing Lord Tyrell's borders but Arden had little choice as he could not continue to do nothing. Traveling at night and avoiding the roads he was able to slip into the Tarson lands undetected. It proved surprisingly easy to find information on the raider's, Arden followed the abundant rumors to a small town where some of them were said to terrorize the locals from time to time. He was shocked when he finally arrived one night and found that a number of them had simply taken over the common room of a local tavern and were drinking rowdily. He had expected Lord Tyrell to be less than intent on actually finding them but could not believe they would simply be allowed to show their faces openly like this. With the offer of rounds and some of his trademark smooth talk, Arden was able to find a seat at one of their tables. The things he overheard that night shocked him to his core. He left certain that not only did Lord Tyrell allow them to flaunt their association within his lands but had in fact been funding them for months now in a bid to take over several of the Lebeda's holdings. Arden already knew that Lord Tyrell was unscrupulous but this was outright treason. Despite his anger, Arden knew that telling his father what he had learned would be futile as without proof any accusations would be quickly swept away by Lord Tyrell's deft political skills. He needed to find everything he could linking Lord Tyrell to the bandits and to do so would require a somewhat less subtle approach.
(Outfit/Disguise details pending).
His identity suitably disguised Arden spent the following weeks waging a personal war against the bandits and any part of Lord Tyrell's operation he could tie to them. He drove groups of them from villages, destroyed shipments of goods from Lord Tyrell, and harassed their operations if any way he could. Arden himself would admit that not all he did was strictly necessary to finding proof of Lord Tyrell's treason but deep down he wanted to embarrass the man personally for trying all he had done to Arden's adopted family. More than that, the bandits were paid to focus their operations on the Lebeda but the did not stop them from terrorizing Lord Tyrell's own people and Arden enjoyed helping them where he could. Not to mention that the more attention he could focus on himself the less could be targeted elsewhere while he built his case. Due to his small stature and brightly coloured outfit, reports of his actions began to refer to Arden as the Songbird and the name seemed to catch on. As tends to be the case Arden's actions made the Songbird somewhat of a folk hero among the common people as it became more clear that their recent suffering was a direct result of their lord's self centered ambition. The final piece of his case against Lord Tyrell came after Arden successfully snuck into Lord Tyrell's own manor and stole orders from Lord Tyrell personally to his liaison with the bandit organization. Combined with the other proof Arden had gathered during his exploits, Lord Tyrell's treason was undeniable. After the Songbird made sure this information made it's way anonymously to the capital it was impossible for the King to ignore. For his treason Tyrell Tarson was stripped of his title and exiled from Brevoy from the Kingdom of Brevoy. His task completed, Arden returned to his home settled back into his life.
As the weeks passed however, Arden grew increasingly restless. His time as the Songbird had given him a taste for adventure and he began to feel he might be able to do more good safeguarding against those that threatened the peace and beauty he valued than anywhere else.
The following few years will depend on how Arden's group comes to work together.

No problem, that's what I get for having good players. And better to check it now, and not later.
In fact the limits I set are arbitrary, not based in "hard" data tat I can prove optimal, so obviously can be improved. In fact, the one you wrote about looks very nice, so:*** NEWS FLASH ***
Besides the item limits I set, if you want - and this goes for everybody - you can use the "Open Content Guidelines" Jubal mentions.
25% of their wealth on weapons
25% on armor and protective devices
25% on other magic items
15% on disposable items like potions, scrolls, and wands
10% on ordinary gear and coins.
So, you can choose one or the other, but not pick-and-match.
About the fact you can have plenty equipment thanks to the item creation feats... not to worry, you are going to need it ;)

Something that let you "Superman" away. One second Arden is there, the other Songbird appears. And no one is the wiser about it.
Let me think about it.
Arv Akul'mar |

I have a slight alteration. I had forgotten that alchemists require the Master Craftsmen feat to craft magic items. So in addition to a brewer of potions, I am an arcane clothier. I can only craft wondrous items which could qualify as clothing. Caster Level 7... check roll bonus is +17.
Potions are CL6 with a +18 to my craft roll.
Apart from incidental gear, I think I am done tinkering with my crunch.

Malor Ginty |

I probably have to drop out as well. My laptop died this weekend and I'm seeing about ordering a new one, but probably wouldn't have it until the end of the month. If I can get it soon enough, maybe Malor could have arrived late or something, having just run away with his lady Calene, but we'll see.

OK people: we have AT LEAST three slots open, and three weeks to make new submissions.

Ok, the updated Recruitment thread is on. Don't worry, I will be reading both, so you can keep posting here.
Right now, accepted, we have:
BinkyBo -> Arv Akul'mar
Dylos -> Venetia Medvyed
Jubal Breakbottle -> Szymon Wojcik
Lloyd Jackson -> Salereon Gavriil
P33J -> Marius du'Caat
With a reserved spot:
CrazyYodler -> Gerad Jortem
Cosmic Dream Lord -> Janus Sevenstar
Dark Netwerk -> Rhasadilara Wynterfall
Edeldhur -> Reknar
Otm-Shank -> Arden Darist
Sai Ling (Qorin) -> Edrawn
At least 3 spots left open.

Yeah, I noticed that too. I had originally planned to make Arden a melee character but I think I'm going to go with a bow instead so we can round things out a bit more.
For the "special" magic item... what about this:
When he discovers Lord Tryell treason he tells Lady Kathryn, and she, in turn, gives him his most precious and secret treasure: Her nightingale.Because her nightingale is special. Normally it will be a pet for Arden, singing melodious songs while flying free around him, unless he mentally gives a command, and them...
The nightingale transforms into Arden, taking his place, and imitating him very convincingly, even if trying to get away from danger and minimizing his contact with other people (saying he needs to do something or rest or whatever). Arden, on the other hand, appears where the bird was, transformed into the Songbird.
The songbird alter ego has a different face and voice, and a different set of equipment, that "survives" between appearances. The duration of the shift is as long as Aroden wants. That let the Songbird "fly away" (in the nightingale form) when he needs it.
We would need to give it a range and time limit, so it can't be used as a "teleport" spell. Maybe you can only do it once every day.
What do you think?

Here's Corsario's list with classes for those that I could find.
Right now, accepted, we have:
BinkyBo -> Arv Akul'mar Alchemist 4 / Fighter 3
Dylos -> Venetia Medvyed Paladin 5 / Noble Scion 2
Jubal Breakbottle -> Szymon Wojcik Fighter 5 / Monk 2
Lloyd Jackson -> Salereon Gavriil Cavalier 5 / Chevalier 2
P33J -> Marius du'Caat Fighter 5 / Hellknight 2
With a reserved spot:
CrazyYodler -> Gerad Jortem Barbarian 2 / Oracle of Battle 4 / Rage Prophet 1
Cosmic Dream Lord -> Janus Sevenstar Oracle of Life 7
Dark Netwerk -> Rhasadilara Wynterfall Witch 5 / Winter Witch 2
Edeldhur -> Reknar Fighter 5 / Ranger 2
Otm-Shank -> Arden Darist ?
Sai Ling (Qorin) -> Edrawn Druid
I intentionally left out archetypes on this list, even though they are an important part of the characters, but I wanted to have classes on this list to point out a few things. We are mostly martial characters, all 5 on the top list for sure are proficient with martial weapons and at least medium armor! The top list has no spell casters (ok, alchemist kinda), and the bottom list only has 3 primary spellcasters (I'm not counting the rage prophet as a primary spellcaster) and we lack skill monkeys, the only ranger is a splash, the only monk is a splash, aside from that its mostly 4+int classes with some 2+int thrown in. It would strongly help if those three remaining slots are 2 skilled characters and an additional primary arcane spell caster.

I'll add that to the new recruitment thread.

Noble's Clothing + Jewelry 175 gp
191 gp remaining

Venetia Medvyed |

I could do a Magus
That's what I said.
Joking aside, I think the current group is fine for kingmaker, because as far as I know, kingmaker is good for heavy melee groups (not that I'm insinuating everyone proficient with martial weapons and medium armor+ is melee, some might be more archery focused), it's not the current group that needs to change, it'd just be nice if the new recruits fill the roles we're missing (1x arcane, 2x skilled). And honestly we probably have a wide array of skills among us, but it's nice to have a character or two that are able to utilize a lot of skills.
The Cohorts on the other hand might not be as balanced, but I didn't take a close look at their classes.

![]() |

So my Forge Master Cleric can create +1 Weapons without assistance and +1 Armor, he can also create any special material armor as well.
That said, if you want any weapons or armors that are higher than +1, any 7th Level caster can assist in the creation of said item to up the caster level to 7 and get us to at least +2 enhancements.
For straight +2 enhancements, your character needs to be able to cast Magic Weapon at Caster Level 7, any other enhancement, you need to be able to cast the appropriate level spell.

I'm going to finalize Marius and Hraggar's build today.
Perfect!
Corsario any thoughts on a proper Nemesis for Marius, I'd like to work with you on this pretty closely to ensure it fits into the story or in case I need to select another Story feat.
If you have a proposal, lets hear it. if not....
When Marius was a young boy and traveled towards Cheliax he met and loved a beautiful Nymph. Yes, while crossing the River Kingdoms he met her and loved her, and she loved him. But after a couple of blissful months he realized how her beauty was a disguise for the disorder and chaos, as she just enjoyed playing and lying, and forgot about him and his love as one forgets the rains of yesterday. And she saw how Marius did not loved her, but wanted to posses and own her, so they fought one night and Marius had to fled, fearing for his life. That relationship has scarred him since then, as he knows, somehow, they will meet again someday.How about that for a nemesis?
Second question, Item Creation Feats, my Cohort is a Forge Master Cleric, he gets craft magic arms and armor at level 5, his level. He should be able to craft my weapons and armor right and everyone else's for that matter.
When the campaign starts you will get time to craft all the equipment you are selecting, so Hraggar will be able to make it.
