Iron Gods: Iron maps;

Welcome to the Fallen Fortress module!

Let's hope we enjoy together a great time while exploring this old fallen Absalom fortress.

This is the information I want you to fill up (you can copy&paste the form):
Character name:
PFS number:
Day job:
Brief character presentation:

Most important thing, if you have any doubt about everything, or you feel I am missing something, let me know! You can use private message if you prefer not to post a public message.

I will give 1 day for you to sign in here answering to my invitation. If you feel you need more time to flesh out a new character, report so in this discussion thread and you will have an extra day while the Gameplay thread warms up!

Be kind to the other players and have fun!

PD: I'm not native speaker, so you will find errors and weird grammatical structures all the time. If some kind of error is repeating enough for you to bother, please, let me note ;)

Character name: Mithrennon Beryamae
PFS number: 152845-10 (CORE)
Day job: Painting!: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
Brief character presentation: Mithrennon is the prodigal son of the Beryamae family. After a few decades of squandering his gifts and some of his family's hard-earned resources, the gifted wizard is now trying to right the ship finding a purpose with the Pathfinders (where his father Arandur retired from and his younger sister Mirima is currently thriving). Milder and more mature than his younger sister Mirima, Meeth (as his friends often call him) and his hawk Blight feels the pressing of needing to prove themselves in their quest to re-establish the pecking order in the Beryamae household.

Elf

Sup all. I haven't had the time to pimp out a core PC yet, but should find some time in the next couple of days. A gnome rogue at your service at some point :)

Great! Thank you!

Character name: Tuilinnor Pathanar
PFS number: 123480-10
Day job: none
Brief character presentation: Tuilinnor grew up in a small group of elves in the jungles of the Mwangi Expanse and left his tribe to explore the world. He has talents in ranged combat and uses his shortbow whenever it is possible. He's wearing a studded leather armor and a small buckler to keep his flexibility and reflexes.

Hello, everyone.

Character name: Lionel "The Lion" Wynne
PFS number: # 120549-2
Day job: Temple Guardian
Brief character presentation: Large, flamboyantly dressed man, with a sense of humor perhaps too blunt for a Calistrian. Specializes in protecting his wards. Born and raised in Absalom, joined the church of Calistria for the usual reason most young men do, but stayed because he actually believes in her philosophy. Not the brightest tool in the drawer, but possesses streetwise experience.

Checking in

Character name: Nigel Mugfunkle
PFS number: # 157271-6
Day job: Profession: Herbalist
Brief character presentation: Small gnome who is well liked yet has noticed strange things starting within him. His parents told him the stories about his odd bloodlines but as a natural skeptic, he never really believed them until recently when magic started flowing through him. He's not particular strong or skilled, but he has recently discovered powers can make him dangerous to those who look a little gnome and laugh.

Iron Gods: Iron maps;

Ok, so here we are, 5 of you have reported in.

Nigel and Lionel, please, provide a day job roll for your day job.

All of you, please, proceed to the Gameplay thread.

Gilthanis, you have 24 extra hours from now to flesh out your character and participate into the Gameplay or I will consider replacing you.

Those of you who are prepared, can start your RP and buying decisions. The scenario does not allow for any knowledge or diplomacy (gather information) roll, but you can try if you wish so and I will see if I have something to fit in.
That's also a premise when you post, if you are unsure if something works in a certain way, try it out, if not, I will just ignore the action or tell you what other thing to do. It just saves a lot of time in PbP. Even more if you add contingency actions in spoilers.

For example:

If no one says against this direction, I check the left door for traps.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
I open the door and go into the room if there is no immediate danger.

I call the party rogue to open the door. If we don't have rogue, I try to force it open with my axe Strenght: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7.
GM answer:

Great contingencies post! Thanks for helping the action to keep moving!

The door seems to have no traps at all. When you try to open it, you discover it is locked. You call the rogue and he take 20 for total 26 unlocks it.

Your torch light goes inside the room, and you see a big birthday cake. All of a sudden your Pathfinder friends come out around and greets you all. "Happy birthday!"

That saves us from expending 3 days checking questions and answers back and forth to decide where to go and what happens with it.

Iron Gods: Iron maps;

Ok, I see now your confusion. The 'day job' is a roll in Pathfinder Society to get extra money in the scenario related with the profession of the character.

You can only do this kind of rolls if you have a trained profession or craft skill, or performance in case you are a bard.

Brief character presentation: Draylan was a member of the military, who was not allowed to re-enlist. He decided to put his training to use through the Pathfinder Society. He excelled at tactics, and use of tripping weapons. Tall and clean, he exudes an aura useally found in nobility, but draylan has never made a claim to an elevated social status. He is always quick to assist and determined to improving his skills.

He is cautious, and checks everything...even to a fault. He is meticulous. He is kinda smart.

Iron Gods: Iron maps;

Nigel please, proceed and post in the gameplay thread, we are finally on movement! :-)

Iron Gods: Iron maps;

Sorry Lionel, I didn't know you had a reach weapon or combat reflex.

That is indeed a complicated mechanic on PbP. It is advisable you make it know to the GM on the scenario beginning.

What we usually do, is you roll a couple extra AoO on your post and I take them if necessary. If you think you might produce more than 2, roll as much as you think will be need. If more are needed, I will ask you to roll your AoO on your turn if necessary and assume they will change nothing in the combat order. If that's not true, like for example a foe dying or a failed concentration roll, I will retcon later the result.

Let me know if this works for you ;)

This is indeed perfect, and I should've known to tell you earlier. From now on, I'll add 2 rolls in a spoiler in every combat round that would probably have at least one provocation.

I hope that this is a reasonable thing to do.

Dark Archive

Male Human Bard/1: HP (10/10): AC (16/touch=13/flat=14): Saves (Fort=1/Ref=4/Will=2): Initiative +6: Perception +4: Sense Motive +0

for GM knowledge, Draylan also has a reach weapon and combat reflexes. I forgot all about it though when the encounter started. Probably would have prevented a lot of pain here.

Iron Gods: Iron maps;

Sorry for that Demario.

One advise to everybody:
It is good practice in PbP to clearly state dynamic bonuses so the GM does not have to ask or calculate himself if you have taken into account dynamic bonuses and penalties. It shortens the confusion and speeds up gaming pace.

A good way to do so is something like this:
Bow-Melee penalty+Point blank shot+Invisibility-Prone+Bless: 1d20 + 7 - 4 + 1 + 2 - 4 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 7 - 4 + 1 + 2 - 4 + 1 = 11

Note how I don't break up BAB+Dex+Size bonus, as those are static and never change in any circumstance. Then I provide description for every effect I am taking into account, and provide the different bonuses next to the roll so it is easy to check out everything went good. It will also help yourself remembering about effects still on effect.

Iron Gods: Iron maps;

One thing on exploration rules, this is how I do it:

If you don't provide a roll, I assume you taken 10 in the roll when entering a new area.

If you don't say you take special precautions while moving, I assume you just advance normal without applying stealth.

If you tell me you try to advance quietly or trying not to be seen, or something like that, I will expect you to roll a stealth check. If you don't though, I will assume you are taking 10, which may speed up things a bit.

Iron Gods: Iron maps;

It is indeed going pretty well :)

I guess our time schedules mingle pretty well. It is usually difficult to maintain the pace in a campaign. But as long as the GM has time to post 1 or 2 posts per day, there is one or two characters pushing the exploration and/or the player interaction, and the other ones doesn't disappear for days, campaigns run good. Of course maintaining those 3 factors during months is very difficult, that's why most AP's stagger after the first couple of months. And when posts start coming at 2 or 3 days delay... well, everybody starts losing interest.

Lucky for us, this is a short adventure, and we have just passed the half, so we will likely complete without problems within one week or one week and a half more :)

As a whole, I have a lot of spare time now, so I'm using it for PbP. If you feel like I'm acting first and murdering everyone so you guys don't have fun, I'll definitely go to a more support role or wait for the initiative.

Also, Calistria is awesome. Just decided to share that in case you didn't see it as obvious.

Iron Gods: Iron maps;

Tuilinnor, there is a problem with your character. It does not report as Core character. It says it is a RPG instead of PFC character.

It does not allow to report the session, thus, I will not report you until you get a way to fix it.

The fastest way is probably you create a new character and I report that character on the session. But perhaps you can try to go the longer way of asking the character to be fixed to Core.

Iron Gods: Iron maps;

Here you have your chronicles. I will add Taulinnor's one once he finds a solution for a valid character. When opening the link, select the Download button.

I have reported without Taulinnor's character. Once you have a Core character I will add you to the report and also the chronicle.

I hope you all enjoyed your time in this small module. I would be glad to hear feedback from you, what you liked and what not. What do you think it can be improved and what is already working.

Also if you have any question about the module, what would have happened if...? Why this? Was something changed from how it was written, etc.

It was nice to play with you all, thanks for the game ;)

I think it was wonderful in both pace and content, and the party was full of people with different strengths. I don't believe I can see any issues with any part of the game I witnessed.

Also, a question, what would've happened if Calistria (or, more like, the RNG god) decided we should rush straight for the top?

Iron Gods: Iron maps;

You got 1 xp Nigel (this is registered in the chronicle, did you get access to it?), and once you reach 3 xp, you level up ;)

Also, any object and money you got during the chronicle are automatically lost (you are supposed to give it to the Pathfinder Society), you don't keep them. In exchange they pay you a corresponding amount of money, as marked in the Chronicle. Thus, to keep the objects you have to buy them from the gold you obtain in the chronicle.

You can use that money to buy any item of less than X value. That X value depends on your accumulated fame. Fame is the sum of all prestige points you have ever got. In this case you got 1 prestige points as Free Modules only give 1 point. For more info about prestige points and what you can buy with them, as well as fame, look at the Pathfinder Society Guide (I recommend to read it at least once every year as they update things).

In addition, you can also buy any object appearing in the chronicle, whether you have enough fame or not to purchase it. If a (limit #) tag appears next to the object, it means you can only buy it that number of times. In this case that happens only with the summoning wand, all the other objects can be bought as many times as you wish.

I hope that is of help. In case you have any other doubt, let us know ;)
And really, reading carefully the Pathfinder Society Guide should solve more of your doubts.

Ok, no problem! Let me know when you have it by private message as I plan to deactivate the campaign in one or two days. I will add you to the report sheet then.

I forgot to make you remember Nigel that you can perform as many character rebuilds as you wish until you reach level 2. Once you hit the second level the character is established and you cannot change anything.

Draylan, no problem at all, I am happy you found it useful :)
I will let you know if I run more scenarios. My next one I plan to be a Normal Campaign level 3.
