At present in gameplay:
Inside the Cathedral, meeting with Pope Gregory:
Arabeth, Sister Azmaria, Eli, and Shyness.
Outside the Cathedral, waiting with the mounts:
Chap, Marius, Aeryth, Cernan, and Poterol.
I must say, I'm surprised our two main seekers of knowledge are not inside the Cathedral seeking further knowledge. ;)
Those with the Pope, please continue gameplay discussion, asking any further questions you may have, pursuing those questions you have already asked that you think have not yet been fully answered, and scrolling up to read the Pope's previous posts in order to consider answering questions he has asked that have not yet been answered; there are several.
Those waiting outside, feel free to post character discussion with the others outside, or to just wait quietly at your option. :)

And, of course, anyone who wants could, you know, Aid Another on Eli's Diplomacy cheeeeeeck (or Sense Motive, or whatever. Or both. Retroactively!!!). Hint. Hint. Hiiiiiiiiiiint. It's not like you could make it worse*! :D
* Ah, dang. I said it. o.o;
Elysium "Eli" Blackdun |
Anyone wanna throw anything in there? Liiiiike, say, two-to-three people rolling Aid Another checks?
(Incidentally, I kind of wish Azmaria'd had more time before heading out. I'm presuming for the sake of the current story that she's been horrified into silence by Eli's boorish actions. :I)
Elysium "Eli" Blackdun |
H'okay guys. Do we give the ring, or keep it for now? Do we trust this guy enough?
Also, where next?
Where do we stay?
Cernan, you okay with me having left the ring with you?
Sister Azmaria |
On my phone can not post .much no formatting just time to get a comment in.
Kind of wish I was more available for this.
A Maria wanted to go there and didn't say anything.
Can't go back and say anything except mahbe she wentand got the rking
Not going to respond to the conversation since outcome will not change
When you guys go to the next place a Maria can stay here and talk to the pope and possibly accomplish nothing more but a personal connection
Not sure what to do now that where I wanted to go was done mostly without me. Should have waited I guess and gone somewhere else first.
Azmaria will stay at the church if she can. I asked to talk to the pope. Then I should talk.
Wanted to be useful here and was not.
I appreciate eli but can we let the rest of us be useful as well.
A appreciate the gm moving the church first since I wasgoing aawaybut instead I will come back to everything done without me.
Not sure what to do now. Splittling the party seems inevitable now. I intend to stay At the church for now.
Gm is there anything else I can accomplish here?
If not, then what can I contribute here.

We give the ring.
Since I wasn't available to speak I get the ring and give it.
We stay at the church
I didn't read all the conversation so not sure on everything and besides I will want to interject but the outcome can't be changed so any comment is for nothing.
Yayy uselessness.

I kind of wish we either moved a little slower or not have gone here yet.
I come home Sunday we could have waited a bit.
And I hate the idea of horrified into silence honestly.
GM Angelina |
Sister Az, you got in a good first impression with the Pope with your high diplomacy and religious etiquette knowledge, as well as what you said in both your posts speaking with him. His reaction to Eli's blunt mistrust would have been harsher if your posts hadn't come first, so your role was most definitely not useless.
The Pope is currently writing two letters for you to deliver to the General and the Lord Mayor for him. Your rolls impressed him enough for him to trust you as his messengers. When you go to deliver the letters, he will be going to speak to the Queen to share the news of Lord Hawkthorne's death, which seemed to shake him quite a bit.
After you deliver his letters to the Lord Mayor and the General, your group can choose to return to the Cathedral tonight, or tomorrow, or whenever. Your conversations with the Pope do not have to be done. Your posts opened the door to his continued interest in meeting with you and sharing updates on your mutual investigations into this fiendish activity.
Also, we can assume your diplomacy roll carried forward through the conversation, causing you to add comments to soften Eli's bluntness throughout.
So, no worries, please, Sister Azmaria! You did your part in establishing a solid connection with the Pope and opening the door for future conversations as desired.
Peace and Blessings to all!

FYI
Even though weekends are usually my more prolific posting times, today we're headed out of town to a big family get together for the weekend, so it's possible major posting won't resume until next weekend.
Feel free to RP a bit more, if desired, but don't count on quick responses from me for a bit.
Have a lovely weekend, all! :)

Hi, all! It's been a crazy week, but the family is more-or-less healthy, grades are in, and tomorrow is my last day at the school to wrap things up before break. I hope to be continuing our story tomorrow, and I hope you'll all be continuing the journey. Thanks for hanging in there with me! :)
GM Angelina |
FYI on timing... with travels tomorrow and the next day, I will most likely get into RP with your next NPC contact Monday evening or soon thereafter ... It sounds like you'll probably be headed to The Lord Mayor, then the General?
Please feel free to continue discussion amongst your characters.

Well played, madame... well... played...

"Denied."
Politician. Spin doctor. Potentially the greatest threat and/or villain. Impossible (for me, at least) to read.
WELP.
EDIT 1&2: Just to be clear, I requested an audience because he entirely evaded my question. Which he also evaded. Again. By denying the request. For "reasonable" political reasons. Paranoia meter is through the roof, at present.

Sigh.
I hope Arabeth's poor role was not too damaging? *makes note to double check for broccoli between teeth in future...* :P
Also, I do believe the nature of this interview is to be 'public' with the Mayor giving us an 'Out' for later, more secluded conversations?
Much cheers to all.

@Eli: If you can't get a straight answer out of him (even in private), maybe Cernan can annoy him into saying something revealing in front of a large number of witnesses.

Ah, good stuff! Nice RP, guys!
I'll craft an appropriate response by The Lord Mayor as soon as I can ... This isn't over just yet ... but I'm headed out of town today, so my responses will likely be sporadic for the next week... Please feel free to add more in gameplay if desired. I'll get results of checks back when I post again.
Peace! :)

Gameplay post up!
You may add any final comments or questions for this meeting with the Lord Mayor, then everyone (except Chap and Aeryth) please post in character in the gameplay thread what name your character would give. You get the sense that the more complete the name given, the more preferable.
Also, as for temporary residence, please stick together as a group. Either everyone stays at the Cathedral Complex in the four rooms offered by the Pope, or you all head to the Talking Turtle Inn run by Alice Treekeep's Aunt Bertha Bethel, or you all seek some other lodging.
Please vote on this here in the discussion thread.
Everyone please vote CATHEDRAL ROOMS or TALKING TURTLE or OTHER.
Thanks! :)
Cernan the Patient |
Definitely the church. In the event of demonic invasion, Cernan would rather have Clerics at his back than Commoners.
Elysium "Eli" Blackdun |
The TALKING TURTLE Inn! What self-respecting folk would hole up in a sacred place?! Them places're f'r spirits!

Marius? Poterol? Would either of you like to be the tie-breaking vote? :)
Elysium "Eli" Blackdun |
Ninja'd!
... by ~30 hours.
You know, I should really work on that Attention Deficit of mine.
The following has been in my "Submit Post" box for almost three day (sans quote code, naturally):
CATHEDRAL ROOM (3): Cernan, Chap, Azmaria
TALKING TURTLE (3): Eli, Shyness, Arabeth... huh. Anyone else?
Marius Rizallo |
Sorry, been traveling the past few days.
Marius would definitely prefer the Talking Turtle, even if the Cathedral makes more sense from a defensive standpoint. He just doesn't trust you holy rollers enough :)
Sister Azmaria |
oh great, glad to see such trust in some of your family
depending on the vote can we assume azmaria gave the pope guy the correct info?
GM Angelina |
Talking Turtle it is!
Before you head there, however, I assume you deliver your other message from the Pope and try to talk with the General at the Command Center.
And, yes, Sister Az. We can assume your group left word that you'd be headed to The Talking Turtle Inn with both the Pope and now with The Lord Mayor.
Sister Azmaria |
personally I would prefer the church but the group has spoken. I think we have to many party members that do not trust religious types.
so I wonder...do they trust their own party?
sorry, but that is the only reason that I really am not understanding.
GM Angelina |
Arabeth, Poterol, Cernan, Marius, please post in character what name you would speak for yourself in gameplay. The scribe is waiting to copy it down.
I'll move the game along soon, bringing you all to hopefully meet with the General.
Here in discussion, please note if your character plans to enter the Command Center or wait outside with Aeryth and the mounts.
Cheers! :)
Shyness |
Well, of course Sister Azmaria thinks we should embrace religious types. =P
We have a mandate from an angel/goddess to trust each other as good people, but our characters' views are not always going to line up. But, deciding to stay somewhere other than the church is not a referendum on anyone's character.
Shyness going in.

Also, Sister Az, I think several party characters specifically don't trust those Church leaders who may be involved in or influenced by Kingdom politics, since you're searching for a mastermind mass murderer who stands to benefit from a possible Kingdom heir being killed. It's different from simply not trusting any Church folk. Even Arabeth, who IS Church folk, would rather be staying somewhere more independent. :)
Sister Azmaria |
ok I was just not really understanding the reasoning that's all.
sorry, I'll shut up now...
*Arabeth* |
Arabeth did all the proper things in her last posting. (^_~)
Arabeth would also rather go back to the cathedral. However, given what's been happening, going and actually protecting the normal people would seem the better thing to do.
Also, she would have rather the Mayor's office be told they were going back to the cathedral. Subterfuge and all that. (^_~)
Marius Rizallo |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
It's as GM Angelina says; Marius is still new to this whole religious thing and doesn't really think of himself as angel-touched or on any holy mission or anything of the sort. In his past experiences with religious folk things didn't go particularly favorably, so he's a little wary of all of this. He trusts the group not just because of the dreams, but also because we've survived trials and tribulations together.
If it was solely an OOC decision, I think the cathedral would be a better option if only for defense.
Elysium "Eli" Blackdun |
So, I guess I'll drop some very unknown-to-most character insight about Eli's decision-making.
Similarly to several others, Eli is very religious... but not in the same way as most folk.
The IC idea, for him, is that "holy places" are places for spirits to reside, not people.
While he intellectually knows he's talking about something different from his own spiritual views, it feels wrongful to him to act in such a blase manner toward a "spiritual" place. Further, he distrusts the hallmarks of "high" civilization, having actually lived through the mostly-ignored "skirmishes" between his people and the people of Theremark (or, more accurately, a few very aggressive, racist, and not-terribly-good folk who were in charge of military actions two generations past). For these reasons, he distrusts staying at the Church, even if he has nothing against the Pope himself. The mayor did no favors, being as coy as he was.
Beyond that, having been an innkeeper in his early life (the closest his folk got to Theramark 'civilization'), he feels more at home with folk that it seems like he could relate to better. An inn is a "safe place" (regardless of its tactical safety) because it's where you have "family" connections: Angelina sent you to one inn, and those folks sent you to another. This is far more serious and "real" to him than vaguely explained religious politics: and thus, in a very different sort of way, inns are a 'spiritual' home (though that is a term he'd never use) to him. He feels kinship, knowing how important it is as an innkeeper to never betray the trusts of those who stay at your place. He may well end up headed straight for "Disillusionment-ville, next stop!" but it is his opinion that, due to the importance of the good nature of folks who run inns, they must be more trustworthy.
Thus he has a two-fold reason: he doesn't trust politics of civilization (and the local church seems to have those in plenty - even if individuals are good), and he has a history (and feeling of kinship) with inn keepers.
OOC: yeah, being at the church would (hypothetically) make the most sense. But, paranoia-meter being what it is, he'd still not allow people to not sleep in shifts, even if it's only him.
(That summoner's gotta be out there somewhere, after all.)
