Yes, I would definitely say that is happening. Also having a single round where we're not all on the brink of fiery death so I have time to cast resist energy...
On a semi-related note, GM Angelina inspired me to throw my players a curveball with a particularly tenacious and extremely irritating imp this past weekend. No fireballs, though. Not yet :)

Elysium "Eli" Blackdun |

Mph. Fighting OOC-tendency to try to get an informant (in this case, though, that involves removing both wings and a tail... as well as a necklace) v. in-character strong belief that the thing should be die now.

Cernan the Patient |

It's... very hard to capture, imprison, or interrogate an Imp.

Cernan the Patient wrote:It's... very hard to capture, imprison, or interrogate an Imp.I say kill it like the others.
I am curious as to why? Do you simply mean due to it's change shape? A solid wooden box (sized for a boar, but awkwardly and filled with hoof-size holes at odd angles and locations) or cage would take care of it. It's strength and dexterity never increase due to the rules of Change Shape, and it lacks any sort of Disable Device or Escape Artist.
We don't have one, but I could see "keeping" it well enough, though it depends on a given GM's particular rulings on attended items v. things like cuffs or tied rope.
Regardless, I'm not demanding or pushing for anything above: I was merely describing my tendencies as a player opposing my character's sensibilities. :)
EDIT: for clarity

Cernan the Patient |

It can bluff pretty decently, it probably doesn't respond to torture, heals fast enough that we'd have trouble tying up, and is constantly invisible when not in combat.

Elysium "Eli" Blackdun |

Cool. I'd still just say "a cage" or "a box" works really well (maybe with flour tossed in it), and a few presumptions seem arbitrary (if understandable), but that's probably just different style-presumptions, which makes sense. :)

Elysium "Eli" Blackdun |

Moving these over here to continue...
I'm not sure if I see the use of a Necklace of Fireballs in a campaign where all the enemies are fiends...
Yeah, selling it for the wealth would better suit our needs I believe
Also: Fire Resistance
Probably, but Eli honestly doesn't know that. He knows it's a mysterious and powerful talisman of some sort and that the fiends are malevolent and used it to create large and dangerous bursts of fire... which they may or may not be immune to.
This is, in part, due to the fact that I can't remember if Eli learned of their resistant nature, in part due to him lacking appropriate knowledges, in part due to no one telling him, and in part due to the fact that, currently, I'm he's quite fond of the idea of placing the necklace around the neck of the bad guy, and pulling one of the balls and loosing it on him despite the fact that he doesn't know that it works that way, naturally.

I'm inclined to agree that dumping it is probably the more sensible action... but then again, it's magical and shiny and powerful, so what else really matters? I'm sure nothing terrible would happen wearing it around your neck with a bunch of pyromaniac imps on the loose!
We really need someone to identify it before we try wearing it into the next (literal) firefight.

Cernan the Patient |

Oh, right.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16

Marius Rizallo |

Mending is very, very slow at 10 minutes per casting and mending 1 lb per caster level. Technically speaking it's one object of up to 1 lb per caster level, so it may not even work on the wagon as a whole unless you're dealing with individual parts/boards/whatever in the whole thing (which is what I usually do with complicated doodads players want to fix in my games, but obviously table variation applies).
Either way, the wagon's going to be out of commission for a while.

Elysium "Eli" Blackdun |

Probably not; it doesn't make much sense for the character. I can always pick it up next level. Doesn't anybody else have Detect Magic, though?
Well:
- Aeryth: is a Fighter
- Sister Azmaria/Eli/Shyness: does not have spells yet
- Marius/Arabeth/Chap: has no Spellcraft
- Poterol/Cernan: WE HAVE POTENTIAL!
- Everyone else: has left the game!

Cernan the Patient |

"Dammnit Jim! I'm a Doctor, not a Geiger counter!" :P
Which is a bad pun at the instance that every one is kind of a Cleric... (^_~)
I recently played the new SSB for the first time, and upon discovering that Dr. Mario was once again playable made a number of such remarks.

Unchained is pretty neat. It takes 3-4 feats to get there, but there's now very limited +Int to hit and damage with attacks.

Third, please discuss, in character, where you're headed first and what you're doing there. Please plan on sticking together as a group for this next section of gameplay.
It's been a while, so, in case you don't feel like re-reading old posts to gather this info, here's a convenient list for you...
Potential Contacts in Resplendent:
Potential Contacts in Resplendent:
1. Alice Treekeep recommends her Aunt Bertha Bethel's Inn The Talking Turtle.
2. Max Gelthis recommends talking to his cousin Gerry, a writer at the Dripping Quill Gazette.
3. Father Peter recommends speaking to Pope Gregory at the Grand Cathedral of the Church of St. Pelor.
4. Captain Ronald suggests speaking to General Garrund, head of Theramark's military.
5. Lord Mayor Vertin of Vigilant suggests speaking to Lord Mayor Lincoln of Resplendent. You have a letter to each of these five Resplendant individuals from the recommending individual in Vigilant.
Game on! :)
I'm having a super-serious bout of Player v. Character.
Eli wants number one (comfort/security/sensibility/self-identification) or number four (the way to deal with wicked spirits is to hit them: you all have proof they exist, you've seen the fires, they'll totally believe you!).
Tacticslion wants number two (incredibly useful to have the press in your back pocket when dealing with government things/strong relation with strong recommendation from Max Gelthis), or number three (he'll either be our best friend, or is the bad guy uber-summoner himself; either way, I want to see him post-haste).
The two of us are locked into a deep-seated emotional and rational struggle. Naturally, that leads us to conclude that some other option should be the one we pick; there is only one, so that should be easy, option five. Except that's the lord mayor. Both Eli and TL have the emotional response equivalent of a slowly deflating baloon+a hint of whiny disgust just thinking about it; both are convinced that it's a lead that, until we bear more proof/sway/power (like THE PRESS IN OUR BACK POCKET, I'm just sayin', dang it, tribal guy) the Lord Mayor will amount to approximately bupkis.
So... dang it.

*Arabeth* |

Arabeth will be voting for No: 3 as first point of contact.
Speaking to those others of the church faith is the first thing to do. Then, after seeking their advice, we talk to people 'properly'. Mayor, then Captain. After that we can talk to Alic and Max.
Wishing every one all the very best. (^_^)

Cernan the Patient |

My computer,s fritzing right now... but Cernan definitely supports going straight to the authorities FIRST, and worrying about tabloids/popes later.

GM Angelina |

So, you're writing letters to these people you've never met, including a pope, a general, and a mayor, paying someone else to deliver them for you, and just kind of hoping they all choose to show up at your suggested meeting place at your suggested meeting time?
I mean, you could try that, but I caution that you very well may not achieve your desired result.

We can go meet them in person and request they meet up at one meeting so we don't have to rehash the same news over and over.

GM Angelina |

A player vote seems like a fair idea.
There are six options. Voting option #1-#5 means going to that place first.
Voting option #6 means seeking out a courier service first to send letters to your five potential contacts to suggest a common meeting.
Try to pick only one option for where to go first.
Remember, no matter where you go first, you can always (hopefully) go somewhere else next.
Vote! :)

Cernan the Patient |

Might actually make sense for people to split up, though—have the people with charisma talk to the mayor, people with military/law enforcement training talk to the cops, and people with religious bent talk to the pope.

GM Angelina |

Third, please discuss, in character, where you're headed first and what you're doing there. Please plan on sticking together as a group for this next section of gameplay.
Please don't split the party. Let's keep this one narrative that everyone can follow. You can feel free to have your character step more in the foreground or more in the background based on which NPC is being met, but I'm asking for you to stick together. Also, don't forget, depending on what you learn, you may not want every NPC to know everything. You're playing a dangerous game here. And, yes, if you manage to get one of the more powerful ones firmly on your side, he could certainly help you to influence certain others.
So, so far Arabeth is a firm vote for #3.
Pick a number! Vote! :)

Elysium "Eli" Blackdun |

After thinking of it a lot, and revisiting a few older posts, I'm going to solidly suggest Gerry of the Dragon Quill Gazette.
I'm posting it here in discussion, but I'm doing so for two purposes: one, it's our strongest "personal" connection, and two, it makes sense that he'd know most of the town and be able to get us into contact with various other individuals of influence where we might be rebuffed otherwise. This satisfies both Eli's desire for personal connections within such a large area and Tacticslion's desire for having a "base contact" with some (however ephemeral) influence. I'm not able to post in-character at the moment, but will do so later.
Happy Mother's Day!

Poterol |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

I'm actually split between #2 and #3. We have a lot of those of 'Priestly bent' in our group to make sense that we would go to the church and make contact there. However, Poterol has been a scribe before, and knows the power of word, as well, the gazette will have the lay of the land, what attitudes people have at current in what direction, so we can tailor any meetings to be favorable to that person/group. The military might answer to the mayor, but that doesn't mean that they'll like it if the orders are strange or come from a group of wandering vagabonds with no references that they can see. The mayor might get upset if the pope suddenly makes decrees about flinging sand or flour everywhere for no reason. The church might start wondering what's going on when the military suddenly up their presence in the city and start carrying strange weapons for no reason.
Suffice to say, there's power plays going on in the upper echelons of any settlement, but getting background info on everyone can help sooth feathers when the time comes.
So, um... I say #2 first, then #3.

GM Angelina |

As best as I can read the tally,
That's one tentative vote for #1 Talking Turtle Inn first (Chap),
two votes for #2 Dripping Quill Gazette first (Eli & Poterol),
two votes for #3 Grand Cathedral first (Arabeth & Sister Azmaria),
and one vote for "the Authorities" first (Cernan) ... (Is that #4 the General or #5 The Lord Mayor?)
The only characters who have not yet weighed in on the matter are Shyness, Marius, and Aeryth (although Aeryth hasn't posted for a few weeks so we won't be waiting on him).
Shyness? Marius? Thoughts?

Cernan the Patient |

Cernan is fine with either the General or Lord Mayor, but he'd rather not turn this into a misinformation-filled swarm of rumors by going to the gazette/inn or talk to a priest about what is clearly a military concern.

Marius Rizallo |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Marius would be most inclined to speak to the general, since he's the one with the most practical ability to help deal with little demon things running about. His second choice would be Gerry, simply because he doesn't care for politicians or popes, and while a good bed is a good thing to have, the Innkeeper might not be very helpful.
Sorry for the delay, I hope the mothers among us had a good holiday!

A good holiday indeed! Thanks! :)
As best as I can read the tally,
That's one tentative vote for #1 Talking Turtle Inn first (Chap),
two votes for #2 Dripping Quill Gazette first (Eli & Poterol),
two votes for #3 Grand Cathedral first (Arabeth & Sister Azmaria),
and three votes for #4 the General first (Cernan, Marius & Shyness).
So, it seems fairest the head to the General first, although the current in-character conversation seems mostly Cathedral-leaning.
Cernan & co, if you'd like to head to the General first, make some in-character arguments in the gameplay thread to convince your fellow characters, then perhaps some knowledge (local) or diplomacy/gather info checks to figure out where to go.

Just a heads up, I will be going to Pittsburgh Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. to visit my Aunt. she has Cancer and we don't know how much longer she will be around. Doctors said she can no longer travel.
not sure on posting ability during that time.

Sister A,
I'm very sorry to hear about your aunt. I hope you have a good visit with her!
All,
alright, in light of the gameplay conversation still being strongly Cathedral-leaning for the most part, and in order to give Sister A a chance to be involved in the Cathedral conversation before she has to leave town, I'm going to rule that you all do head to the Cathedral first. I'll try to have the next gameplay post(s) up soon.
