Gotta ask this...

When we were hit with the news of the playtest, and second edition, am I the only one that decided, "I'm gonna start another first edition campaign."? Some people act like their entire gaming world ended due to a playtest. C'mon, your players never hit 20th level with this, you have no reason to put die and pencil down...

I'm still over here planning PFS scenario plays. Got a bunch of 12+ adventures to get through.

I am an addict to creative energy. It has been pretty obvious from the very first blog posts that PF2 is where this energy has relocated as far as devs are concerned. And later threads showed that this is true of many posters too, myself included

If they did, I'm pretty darn sure it wasn't a paizo.com preorder.

For the sake of public safety, I'm sharing your weaknesses.

I actually started Wrath of the Righteous campaign a few months back so I'm not missing a beat on that campaign. I did do some modifications to it though. I made each player a weapon in which they have to find four pieces to unlock its special ability. Each part has a special ability tied to it. For instance the dagger our Rogue found is a dagger that he can use once per day to use vampiric touch and recover some hit points. He doesn't know that using it on certain creatures in the adventure path could have ramifications. I also scaled up a few creatures in further in so that giving these weapons wouldn't cause the adventure to be a walk in the park.

I have two campaigns running on first edition, Curse of the Crimson Throne and Wrath of the Righteous, both will probably run for another year. My third group is likely to want to play War for the Crown soon, and I'm not sure that gives itself well to being converted to second edition, and then probably to second edition proper once that's out. I will play second edition sooner or later, though, but I don't have to stop the world to do it right now.

We've actually been playing Starfinder for a while anyway - though we're going to be taking a break from that for a few months while I run the playtest module.

So should we expect the preorders to start arriving mondayish

In my experience amazon (who is doing the shipping) does a pretty good job of getting things there on the day of release. Id expect it on Thursday.

Every day that passes increases the likelihood that packages will start to arrive. I really do not expect anybody to receive their order today, and probably not tomorrow. There's an outside chance a tiny number of orders will arrive on Saturday, and I'd actually be surprised if at least a few don't arrive on Monday. But since the target is Thursday, most of them should hit Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

And because international shipping is the most variable—they usually take extra time in transit, but they also generally depart earlier—I expect that international customers are more likely to have their packages arrive earlier or later.

That would be glorious. I probably would lose track of the rest of the day (unless it's Tuesday, where I got to GM Shattered Star... would be hard to concentrate, though).

I'm sure it is August 2nd in some other dimension or timeline.

It is still a little ways away in my own dimension, but we know time doesn't flow equally in all of them! As for other timelines, well that is way above my level of competence in math!

Shortly after the Gen Con floor opens for early access to VIGs—9 AM Eastern, 6 AM Pacific.

...not unlike predicting the birth date of a child. :-)

I think I said something similar to this in another thread talking about people getting the playtest early...and the same idea will probably also relate to when the PF2 rulebooks release...

Someone ALWAYs breaks the release date. It's like an unwritten rule.

I play video games and it seems that this always happens every week when the new games are released...someone always gets them early (sometimes even weeks early) despite major publisher's best attempts to release it all on the same day.

No idea how to stop it from happening though.

Appreciate that people aren't sharing major spoilers yet...

and hope that I at least get the hardcopies of the playtest on the planned release date...

though I also plan on downloading it that day if I do not...though I expect that the servers may be slow and it may be hardgoing for at least the first few hours of trying to get it downloaded.

I am frankly surprised that we have not seen more copies in the wild yet. I figured it would be found, scanned and posted by now. Just a few more days.

Regards locking the threads: That is an absolutely terrible idea. --It's not like your server farm is running out of space for text files. (It's my assumption that you're going to box these threads all up and move them into a subdirectory anyway, so just name that directory "1st Edition", and no one will be confused. To avoid being pestered, disable the FAQ button in such a PF1 subdirectory. If you do shove everything into a new subdirectory, please run a bot to fix all of the broken within-forum links that such a move will create.)

A great many people, for quite some time, will continue playing their existing PF1 material. Strangling discussion of it will not bully anyone into upgrading to PF2 any sooner, it may drive them away.

They're locking the current playtest discussion board that contains discussion based on blogs but not the actual playtest CRB. They're not locking every existing messageboard. That's why the thread title is "The fate of this board" not "the fate of these boards."

Try be less paranoid, OK? Paizo is not out to get you.
