Recruitment

Sovereign Court

Hello one hello all! After the disappointing falure that was trying to get my Greek game back up and running, I Feel like I should give people the opportunity to try something. So, Recently I began exploring old campaigns, and I felt like playing this one!

Now, with it being a 3.5 game there will be extensive changes to the campaign, mostly in monsters and such. But that's beyond the point. I want to allow almost anything for this game (Paizo that is), so I'm very open to rules, races, and other such things. Of course they have to be logical. No Driders or Centaur in the middle of a populated City! However given the Diversity of Varisia and it's Cities I will allow most other races.

Here's the rules:

Character Creation:

Starting level:1(obviously)

Races: Most Paizo(No green martians or other four armed aliens) as long as you make sense(also, Kobold get a change to make them suck less)

Classes: Any Paizo, Unchained if available,

Archetypes: any Paizo(3pp up for review)

Starting Gold: Average,

Traits: 1 Champaign, 1 other, take a Drawback for a third

Rules in use: Background skills, Skill unlocks(Occult and Unchained), VMC(Can't multi class in another way if using this), Other rules up to approval

Changes to races:

Kobold: new stats!(+2 dex +2 Cha, -2 con, -2 Str,)

Gripli: gains Sticky tongue (As the race builder trait)

Other races with >or= 6Rp get a change depending on race, ask if needed.

Will not change humans °-°

Now, A short taste!

The king is sick... A form of leprosy has kept him in bed. And his dear wife has been desperately trying to keep him alive... It won't be too long before he is gone...
But this is just a minor problem for you, for the criminal Gaedren Lamm has been the irk of all your problems this last few years... I'd only someone where to find him and stop him

Okay! Let's do this!

Recruitment will be open to the 30th.

Note, some things will be quite thematic, such as a harrower or a Vigilante,

Interested
Will adjust the character soon.

How do we do stats?

Dotting. I would also like to ask the same question about stats, as they do not appear to be present in the Character Creation spoiler.

Also, Combat Stamina, Advanced Weapon Training, Advanced Armor Training?

Since Humans are 9 RP, I'm not sure why they'd be modified based on the guidelines you set.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I have been desperately looking for an urban campaign. And this is perfect. I've been dreaming about a charismatic rogue halfling. I would use Unchained. I can work up a simple build later tonight, and post it here.

Question, you say races with > (greater than) or = 6 Rp get a change, but I think you mean < (less than) 6 RP. Is this correct?

Dotting for quite some interest.

Interested. I'll look over your requirements and see if I can come up with something.

I have a halfling Alchemist mostly styled for the Varisia area.

I am currently running this adventure path so I'd just like to double check if that would be something you are ok with in a player. Only half way through book one. I've got the collectors edition and thats a little different as is in a few spots. I've noticed NPCs reworked with classes that didn't exist at the time of the original adventure path!

Likely old news but this was re-released recently. http://paizo.com/products/btpy9nme/discuss&page=20?Pathfinder-Adventure -Path-Curse-of-the-Crimson-Throne#tabs.

I'm not clear if it's still 3.5 or not.

Pathfinder Maps Subscriber; Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

Yeah that, and not it's straight pathfinder. As I said including updated npcs to new classes that are more suitable in one or two spots.

Sovereign Court

Now I figured I missed something!

Let's just do a Standard 20 point buy!

I would use the rerelease, but I only have access to the older ones for now, so I'm using them. Obviously I'll adjust a little but The changes shouldn't be too drastic.

I marked it > 6RP, meaning <6RP and didn't realize it....

And are you using Combat Stamina and the Advanced Weapon and Armor Trainings?

Sovereign Court

I previously started a Crimson Throne game that ended when the DM vanished in the first encounter; I played an urban druid. But, given the options here, I may try something further afield...

Just doing this while I have a free moment. I'll load this up on Hero Lab later and make it purrty.

Rough Build:

Darla Spinner
Female Halfling [Unchained] Rogue CG

STR 10
DEX 18
CON 14
INT 10
WIS 10
CHA 15

Feat: Two-weapon fighting
Skill ranks: acrobatics, bluff, climb, diplomacy, disable device, knowledge local, perception, stealth
BG Trait: Unhappy Childhood (tortured)

Will we be using Feat taxes?

Okay, I think I've got it.

This seems pretty interesting! Now, I see you're willing to consider third party archetypes, should I assume that third party classes themselves are off limits entirely?

I came up with a somewhat unusual character. Erasmus Harlaw/Steel Falcon, a Tiefling (but human looking) Vigilante.

”Background”:

Erasmus Harlaw is from an old Chellish family that dates back to the founding of Korvosa, it’s not a noble family mostly clerks and professionals. Like most families if you go back far enough there’s a few skeletons in the closet. Even as a child Erasmus began to realise he was different from the other children, faster and able to see in the dark… and he grew up slower than them. Asking his parents he learned he had a twin who died at birth, his shape twisted. Somewhere in the ancestry something a little darker had gotten into the gene pool.

Erasmus is a family secret, at this point he is an adult but is pretending to be one of his brothers sons. He’s changed his name a few times at this point, moved to different parts of the city and even for a three years to Magnimar. He’s worked several jobs and is currently earning some money as an acrobat.

However at night he moves to deal with the festering underbelly of Old Korvosa one night at a time. He’s even managed to gain a reputation amongst the people of Bridgefront, particularly the criminals. One criminal has evaded both Erasmus and the Steel Falcon, Lann is a foul crimelord who framed Erasmus “brother” Joshua for murdering an acquaintance of his Marsha Lane.

Lann’s crimes are well known to the Steel Falcon and once he gets the man in his sights he’ll put an end to a carrier that has lasted far too long and destroyed far too many lives. But Lann is very reluctant to be found and keeping a low profile. Erasmus has begun to get worried that Lann would meet his final end from old age and not from someone exacting justice.

Erasmus is gregarious and gets along with most people. He’s law abiding and generally doesn’t interfere in other people’s business.

Steel Falcon interferes in other people’s business. Every shadow can be his watchtower and haven, the underworld a buzz with reasons as to how he never appears with a torch, is he a half elf hiding his features beneath the mask? Is he using magic items or indeed a magic user, one tale that made him grin morbidly was that the Steel Falcon was in fact a cultist of Norgorbor who went after criminals to hide his sacrifices. In Bridgefront every other evening leads to a new theory being spawned for this or his origins in some tavern. There’s many lesser crimes he does not and can not spend his time dealing with and he knows the law is flawed. But even lesser crimes draw his notice when the targets are the weak and vulnerable. More than one mugging has resulted in an old lady being rescued in Bridgetown of late, with the criminal nursing a cut to remind them of the price they might pay if they continue. At the same time a few of the most vile criminals have been rudely awakened from their slumber by a sharp stabbing pain through the heart. There is no honourable combat to be had, these scum are beyond this point. Still it’s not just about punishing the wicked, it’s about protecting the innocent and the weak.

Where Erasmus is personable, quick to smile and tell a joke the Falcon is glib, sarcastic and indulges in some rather grim gallows humour.

Actually... Hmm, yeah I'm gonna give Feat taxes a Thumbs up, after all I agree with what they are doing by making Finnese a standard and simplifying Combat feats...

And for combat stamina and Advanced training, yes, however I'm not making stamina standard, you have to take the feats and such.

I'm not familiar with these. Can someone put up a link to the SRD or something?

Sovereign Court

Ah, if I had a link I would give it, but I'm on the phone ATM, although I want you to understand that you are not the only vigilante in the city. In fact if you are familiar with the campaign and you know that there's another.

Edit; Feat Taxes

There's that as a Valiant effort

This is the one commonly referred to when talking about feat taxes:

http://michaeliantorno.com/feat-taxes-in-pathfinder/

By the way, DM waz up, would you allow a level of unchained monk on a chaotic aligned character? I'd love to have an unarmored desna barbarian, but if I'm not allowed to break the rules that's okay too.

^.^

Sovereign Court

Although I'm fine with changing most alignment restrictions, I unfortunately agree with the monk restrictions. You may of course gain a level in that class, but are treated as if you made an alignment shift and loose all associated abilities, which I believe includes the AC bonus and Ki.

Once you give up intense and repetitive Training for a life if freedom from the shackles of order you give up the power that the order gives you.

You pay the price for breaking your Vows

Bringing this back up, since it appears to have been glossed over. Specifically, I'm wondering about Akashic Mysteries content from Dreamscarred Press.

Akashic Mysteries is essentially a port of the Magic of Incarnum subsystem from 3.5e,and it's solid without being overwhelming. It also has my, hands down, favorite nonlethal option of all time, the Guru.

Actually you keep all the monk stuff you've already acquired, at least according to the normal rules. It's not like the paladin where your powers get disappointed in you and go away, you still know all the techniques you learned.

Regardless, I'd have to change to lawful before I took the dip, then change back immediately afterwards. That feels way too cheesy for me.

Thanks, anyway!

Korvosa's a big city, Black Jack is more established which is fair. My character is only beginning to make a name for himself. As long as I haven't missed something about him offing any other vigilantes who show up on his turf it'll be fine. The city is big enough and corrupt enough to keep them working for a good while before they are likely to run into each other. Maybe Black Jack will approve of Steel Falcon's work on a much smaller scale, it takes time to hit the big leagues!

Thanks for the link.

Heh. Curse of the Crimson Throne starring Team Arrow actually sounds pretty cool. Maybe everyone can eventually take a dip in Vigilante. :-)

Sovereign Court

Heh, honestly if think it more along the lines of him telling you he's got it handled, then when you refuse to stop he sort of submits... Like he sees your potential and allows it to continue. And honestly you don't have to be a Vigilante to play a Vigilante. Anyone could wear a mask and punch villian in the face. Only the Vigilante can do it without being recognized.

Pathfinder Maps Subscriber; Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

...halfling arcanist with the occult archetype and skill focus stealth. "Commissioner weird animals keep appearing out of nowhere attacking criminals." And the commissioner just smiles.

There are only a few campaigns where I'm keep to give vigilante a go. Mostly ones that have a healthy amount of time in a single area. Hells Rebels is the ideal one but I got into a game of that shortly after it came out and Ultimate Intrigue wasn't out. I had made a masked Rogue going by Amon who was secretly the mild mannered apothecary who was growing mint tea on the sly.

Dotting in, I really want to play this one.

Revisions coming.

Pathfinder Maps Subscriber; Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

I think I might have the Vigilante identity with a better name. Steel Falcon is kind of a placeholder.

I'm definitely interested. Always thought this AP looked interesting but never got to play in it. I have a spiritualist that's haunted by (supposedly) the spirit of his long dead twin brother that would fit with an urban campaign well.

Although with those tweaks to kobolds, I might have to rethink that. Always liked kobolds but it hasn't always been easy making a PC work.

Hmm...

Okay, I am submitting Garran Fain, former gang member turned mercenary who was betrayed by Gaedren Lamm and nearly arrested. Now, he's back with a new name and new skills - and he's out for revenge.

A more specific request: Can I use the Sable Company Marine Archetype for ranger, accompanied by the Buraq animal companion archetype, which I can provide in PMs if you're interested. The long and short of it is that the companion gains access to a few Akashic feats and a smattering of veils that it can share with its master. It replaces Multi Attack, Improved Evasion, Share Spells or Light Armor Proficiency, it replaces bonus tricks with a few of its own related to the use of Veils, and delays Evasion until 15th.

Dotting. Alchemist probably

I'm interested. I'll see if I can come up with an interesting concept.

I'm going to submit Nicolai Fortescu, Human (Varisian) Wizard (Diviner: Foresight sub-school) who will be, eventually, taking the Harrower PrC.

Sovereign Court

In the theme of doing something off the beaten path, I'm currently working up a vishkanya ranger (sword devil), Vedika Bhatia.

The sword devil is a Paizo archetype, but because it was published in a comic (it was made to be able to stat up Red Sonja) it doesn't appear in the usual d20 PFSRD. I've included all of its mechanics in the alias, with a link to a write-up of the archetype.

This character takes until 3rd level to get really up to speed, as she gets a kind of conditional weapon finesse from her archetype at that level. Then she will wreck house on things with dual machetes. Until then, she will be a semi-tank, and will also occasionally use stealth + shuriken + sleep venom to try to gain advantage in combat.

Thematically this character is a visitor from afar who is swept up in the events of the city. As a foreigner she is in some danger, though usually she can look human enough to avoid too much notice if she doesn't do anything egregious. While most vishkanya are neutral, she has developed a bit of a soft spot, and especially once the events of the AP are in full swing she becomes upset about the new regime, and finds that as an outsider she is disproportionately affected by it. This makes it personal, and thus commits her to fighting to overthrow the regime on behalf of everyone, as it becomes a broader cause than just selfish reasons.

I expect to have the alias fully complete later today and will make a followup post when she's ready.

I'll dot for this. I've been itching to play an urbanite of some kind, and this seems like a great fit for a Kobold Vizier/advisor of some kind. Perhaps a Mesmerist, or possibly an Oracle.

Sovereign Court

I've updated Vedika Bhatia with equipment, traits, personality, description, background, etc. All the usual goodies! Ready to go as a tank (at lower levels) and a two-weapon disaster area (after level 3 or so).

Sovereign Court

Glad to see your interest!

Now I'm going to have to look through those archetypes but for now I'm going to give it a maybe.

Time and let you guys know that I may be a little slow in posting, after all it is now summer and work is kicking it up for me as I work at a place that really has business in the summer, however I do try to post daily when I can.

And it made it a little hard for me real soon cuz I'm moving but don't let that get your hopes down for this game I usually try to post if my phone when I don't have my computer

Sovereign Court

Thanks DM! I made a couple more little tweaks (Vudrani language, VMC monk instead of fighter b/c VMC fighter is not as useful for a sword devil). I appreciate the opportunity.

In my opinion the sword devil is actually a little underpowered; it's supposed to two-weapon fight with finesse weapons, but gets limited finesse (pick one weapon) at level 3, so you either don't start with weapon finesse and are not a great fighter for two levels, or you take it at 1st level and then one of your class features is redundant. The other abilities are okay, getting +Cha to AC if you don't wear armor is so-so unless you really push your Dex & Cha; the Death Vow is basically a lower-powered smite, and of course you give up favored enemies, favored terrain, and spells.

As a player I am also a regular on the boards, I like lots of RP, I like to contribute to the group as a whole, and I'm not a major optimizer in character designs - but I do try to make characters that are at least functional. I like having connections to other party members and I run several games so I'm not going anywhere any time soon!

I am interested in submitting myself. I have most of my backstory done and am still working on a bit of the crunch. I am looking at doing a Teisatsu Vigilante. I would like my vigilante identity to wield a daisho (katana in one hand, wakisashi in the other). So my question, would you be willing to allow a katana to be a finesse weapon? If not, what about giving dueling sword proficiency to the Teisatsu and I'll skin it as a katana?

I'll continue working on this submission. Let me know if you think there's something I need to modify

Ignore this. I can't seem to get it to work quite like I'd like it to, and can't really get behind it as a concept, at least, not enough to keep me into it.

Dot, never played in this one.

I will submit a Kitsune Vigilante when I have a moment.

Hey, don't I know you from somewhere?

In Stalwart's Red Mantis game we're currently doing a bit of this AP in reverse. I think I'd get a kick out of playing this the way it's intended. I've got an idea for a character, will just have to see if it comes together.
