Trex has parished what can I do

Advice

My Trex animal companion has just been slain hes at approximately -80 Hp. Is there any way I can bring him back to life? I cannot afford 10k gold for ressurection, I only have 2k gold. Could anyone provide suggestions? I cannot simply acquire a new one because the environment isn't home to any. So this is a situation where I could only acquire it from level 1 when we started the game because I was from a different region.

Here you go... :-)

Buy a scroll of Animate Dead and turn it into a Bloody Skeleton Tyrannosaurus Rex. Make sure you have at least one rank of Use Magic Device if you don't have the spell on your class list. A standard 3rd level divine scroll would cost 375 gp plus 25 gp per hit dice of the target creature.

I am disappointed that this is not about a T-Rex giving up the predatory life to become a priest.

Best I can say is this, Raise Animal Companion.
It only costs a 1000gp diamond. But you still have the negative levels.

Now I've got to go make an Awakened Tyrannosaurus Rex Cleric of Sobek.

Very interesting, more specifically he died in Thistletop. Would Sandpoint have any druids with this ability? or is there anywhere else within a couple days reach that would have a powerful enough druid to cast this spell?

Something artists always seem to ignore is that Tyrannosaurus Rex had feathers. At least a black and white crest on the top of its head, probably more. A god of birds is as likely as one of crocodiles.

His life's goal is to replace his stubbly little arms with majestic wings.

Would I be able to purchase a scroll of Raise Animal Companion from anywhere near or in Sandpoint?

And secondly hes level 3 like me, does that mean he'd go back to level 1 and all his stats go back to level 1? or does he still get the pluses to dex and str from 3rd level?

My elephant companion was recently slain off camera while the rest of party was trapped underground. It was pretty upsetting. I plan on getting a T-Rex later on (doing a Moon Boy and Devil Dinosaur thing), so I got a new companion that I will keep for a few levels (hopefully). Tell your GM that you leave town for a couple days to mourn, then come back with an animal companion. Thats what I did. My GM doesn't yet know that I choose the "beastial flashes" accursed companion trait. :)

I think Sandpoint may have this available as a hunter spell, if there is a hunter in town. It is to small to have druid to do it.

Yes, I do believe he would have the 2 negative levels until you pay for some restoration.

Thank you very much, so I will ask my GM if there is a Hunter in town if he says there isn't, are there any major cities within a couple days reach where I could find a paladin or another character who could cast the spell?

Keep in mind this text from Ultimate Campaign:

Quote:
A lost animal companion, cohort, familiar, or follower can be raised or resurrected with spells such as raise dead, resurrection, or true resurrection. For a cohort or follower with character levels, these kinds of spells give the character one or more negative levels—a price worth paying if the alternative is death. Creatures with no character levels (such as animal companions and familiars) count as 1st level for the purpose of these spells, and therefore they take Constitution drain instead of negative levels.

Because of the nature of that book, it is unclear if this is a suggestion or a representation of the rules as intended.

Magnimar is the closest major city.

Magnimar is the closest major city.

How far away would that be from Sandpoint?

Magnimar is a day's ride south of Sandpoint.

No, how does that work?

Perish is the english word which means: To Die

Parish is the english word which means: An area under the purview of a particular church

All of the jokes about Trexs and churchs stem from you auto-correcting to the wrong word.

Have a parish bbq. Don't forget the sweet tea.

Nice thing about looking for a druid caster? They're more likely out in the boondocks.

Negative levels don't make your actual levels go away, they just hang around hindering you until you get restoration or something (see linked rules). So, for instance, he does not lose the boost to his stats.

Ahhh I didn't know that, thank you Fuzzy. That's not so bad actually, I will have to get him restorated for sure.

In case anyone missed this quote from Ultimate Campaign.

Ohh, is there anyway to regain that lost constitution? Can it be restored?

Just get a different companion....it is free. Then when you get to an area where the GM allows a T-Rex, dismiss yours and get a replacement. It is a class ability, doubt the GM will make it too hard to get the creature you want. This is far better than playing with a gimped companion with negative levels, because restoration spells also cost.

Atalius wrote:

It can.

Link to the spell, restoration.

You'll want restoration instead of lesser restoration; that said, as noted, restoration costs 100 gold to remove all ability drain.

Lesser restoration restores ability damage, but this is not "ability drain" - "ability damage" is temporary, whereas "ability drain" is permanent until fixed by magic.

Note "energy drain" is something else entirely.

I cannot get a different companion Trex are very rare in the area I am in which is Sandpoint. GM said if I didn't try to revive Rexy then I'd have to pick a creature that is found around Varisia. That's why I'm determined to bring back this rare beast. I don't know if we are going to go to an area where T Rex's are found during this AP. We may not.

Could you link me this so I could show my GM please? This will save me a lot of gold which I don't have a lot of. I was expecting to spend 1000 for the raise dead and then an additional 2000 (1000per level) to bring him back up to level 3.

Link to the actual rules archive, the "PRD" - this can be found on the right side of the screen.

Link to the spell Raise Animal Companion - this can be found under the "Ultimate Magic" book in that PRD mentioned above.

Link to the spell restoration - this can be found in the Core Rulebook in the PRD linked at the top/at the right side of this very website. This is the Core Rulebook that everyone uses to play Pathfinder.

Link to reviving a dead companion - this can be found in the book Ultimate Campaign, as well as the the Ultimate Campaign link in the PRD and the Campaign Systems sub-heading. A simple CTLR+F should allow you to search for the words "Reviving and Replacing Companions" to bring you there.

Link to the Settlements rules - this is from the Game Mastery Guide, and found on the PRD linked above, yadda, yadda. Note that, at a population of roughly ~1,200 or so, Sandpoint is squarely classified as a "Small Town" (though on the upper end, thereof), meaning it has 4th level spells as generally available. This should allow you to access a hunter, ranger, or paladin version of the spell.

All of this is official Paizo material - that is the company that makes the game. Not only that, but all of this is linked to the official Paizo website - it is their PRD that they publish for free on this, the website you are currently on, that I've linked.

That said, bear in mind, your GM may be running under alternate or home brew rules, or may have personal reasons why it might not be reasonable for you to find everything you need to restore your companion right away. In that instance, it's best just to accept that things are the way they are in this campaign. That said, you could easily nab a gentle repose spell or three by hiring a local druid to cast it (it costs <3rd CL*2nd SL*10g=> 60 g for a three day extension), and keep extending how long you've got to raise your animal buddy, should it prove necessary to do so.

Hope that helps!
