[GM Interest Check] Jade Regent: Far over the Crown of the World cold...

Recruitment

Now that GM-Salsa has completed his recruitment here, I noticed there were a large number of players (myself included) who were still interested in forming a Jade Regent campaign. All we need is a dedicated GM willing to accept a few of us to get started. Anyone still interested in Jade Regent? Anyone interested in GMing?

Dotting as an interested player.

I've been involved in three attempts at playing Jade Regent, we've never gone beyond putting the caravan together so far, so I am most assuredly interested.

Hmmmmmmmmm...................

I am tempted to GM. I currently GM RotR (we are going onto the third book), have played in shackles, etc.

I just don't have a lot of time put in on the boards yet, I'm not sure people would trust I'd be in it for the long haul (though GM'ing and Adventure Path is super easy, and adding to it even easier <3)

BUT, I do love GM'ing sometimes more than playing, so if people were to trust in it, I'd consider dropping the AP's I've applied for and GM'ing this instead! After all, as a GM I get to play as *many* characters haha.

I know that part well, being the GM can be very fun, but also draining.

Bah. I don't find much draining, I run 1 to 2 live sessions four about 6 hours each, and then I play in another one for 3 to 6 xD

PbP is harder at the start for prep work but it tapers off, cause 1 to 3 posts per day on average can only build up to so much after a bit.

I'm still interested as a player. In fact this is one of those games I've really wanted to play for a long time.

I'm potentially interested in running a Jade Regent game. I'm just trying to decide if I'm more interested in Strange Aeons, Winter's Reign, or Serpent's Skull.

Started it with another character (Gôlgast, Eldritch Scion Magus).
The GM had to bow out due to RL commitments, though.

So, I'd still be interested in giving it another go.
The whole caravan thing sounded like lots of fun.

Spoiler: The caravan system is terrible.

This does not diminish my desire to play it!

Silver Crusade

Same here!

I'm a newbie to this whole RPG thing but I would be interested in doing this campaign.

Now my interest in this whole caravan system is piqued-

I'll start reading the first book tomorrow. If it looks cool and I don't get picked for a PBP soon, I'll run it.

If it SUCKS,

I'll probably still run it. Just with my own homebrew things added now and again.

Just to throw an aside in there, the caravan system is more-or-less optional. You can throw the whole thing out the window and hand-wave it to the next chapter of the AP, If you'd prefer. I had a GM do it that way and it worked fine.

I would be definitely interested in playing.

Sovereign Court

A slightly-more-elaborate discussion of the caravan system.

The caravan system is pretty clearly wedged in under the auspices of a directive that an AP needs a new system for players to engage (like kingdom-building in Kingmaker, campsites in Serpent's Skull, etc.).

As constructed, the caravan system is a way to keep a bunch of extra paperwork, so that you can turn your encounters into a series of back-and-forth sets of "One player makes a roll, DM makes a roll. Repeat until one side loses" with minimal opportunities for meaningful choices, and for which your character's abilities don't really matter.

Additionally, the first AP book is built with the assumption that the entire second act (going from level 2 to level 3) is built to be just these encounters, and all of them are just randomly-rolled and (a) have nothing to do with the story, and (b) have no controls so it's expected that you might just roll an encounter that will wipe the party and they have no way to avoid it, manage it, or minimize the damage from it.

So do your players a favor and carefully read Act 2 of Book 1 (which is one whole page long), then rebuild it.

When I ran Jade Regent in a face-to-face game, I threw out the caravan system with, so far as I could tell, no deleterious effects. It did, indeed, seem like it would take a lot of bookkeeping for little reward. But the right GM and group could probably make something of it... perhaps with a lot of their own tweaking.

I am definitely still interested in playing this!

I'd like to add that my character is the OP, in the interest of transparency. I had her all set up for Salsa's recent recruitment and she wasn't selected in the end. I just really want to use her in Jade Regent and not have her go to waste...

I'd still be interested.
Did the first module with this magus, before the GM had to bow out.

Don't want this character to go to waste either.

Didn't get far enough to try the caravan thing.
But I thought it looked interesting, anyway.

Interested at well. I played once with this character but never even made it to the caravan.

Alright. I'm going to read up on Jade Regent today folks! I might get picked for one other PbP but, tbh, Pathfinder is my "video game of choice", so :3

After reading through book 1 and 2, I'm going to base character creation rules, race rules, etc. etc. etc. off of that.

I also don't want to stretch myself too thin, so I'm going to take another few days to let the Shackles Recruitment go before I get people's hopes up, only to crush them :(

I will see you all in a few days!

Outstanding!

HOORAY! THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU! I'll make any adjustments to Syeira you need!

Now this finally has me interested since no one is running APs I am interested in. A tengu ninja sounds awesome!

Jade Regent always gets my interest.

I would also be happy to run Jade Regent, though I don't run true Pathfinder but my own Game System roughly based on it.

If anyone here would prefer Roll20 live games to PbP, the link to my broad recruitment thread is below, made huge for convenience.

Cosmos Eclipse Playtest of APs Recruitment

It Begins!

Everyone, in order of posting on this thread, has first dibs access to my closed recruitment to Jade Regent.

Anyone after Kyrt that posts will not be counted for the closed recruitment, and will have to wait to see if this thread is opened to beyond this section here.

Please read all sections, and enjoy!

*sigh*

Are you kidding me? I was literally about to say I was interested after not getting into the last recruitment.

Ya know there's another GM here Commando...

Unless you're only available for PBP in which case I am sorry for your loss.

Does this mean I (Leandro) have second dibs? If so, I love you. If not, love you just the same.

Most people here are like me, only for pbp.

I'm in the same boat as CommandoDude, except I've been following this thread since the creation, but I didn't think posting here would affect my chances of getting into a game if one did pop up, so I never did. Most games I see here pick players based on which ones the GM like best, not based on who posts first.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Either way has a form of favoritism. Favorite player, first come first serve, there is no way to please all, nor a best method. What I chose is what I chose.

Sapiens, it does not mean you have "second" dibs, to clarify, it means the group as a whole has dibs in the closed before opening it up. Those who participated to this point are put first in line.

Liberty's Edge

Of course, it makes perfect sense, just asking to be sure, since I'm kind of a newbie.
