Heck, depending on your GM, blinded NPCs might attack their own allies!

I second Glitterdust and Burst of Radiance. Ghostbane dirge and Thunder Drums are faves of mine as well.
And then there is Dirge of the Victorious Knights...kind of the bard's Flame Strike, only much cooler...heh.

If we were allowed divine spells, I'd say greater angelic aspect. Nothing like making a paladin fly.

From the sorc/wizard list, I think spell turning. I GM more than I play, and it was a great moment when the witch nearly had his own phantasmal killer thrown back at him.

Create Demiplane (and its variants). Magnificent Mansion is a close second, since it functions pretty much the same way.

Need a fancy place to host a sweet company retreat? *BAM* Tropical island getaway with perfect weather & zero bugs.

Need to just get away from the rest of the multiverse? *BAM*

Need a magic dead hideaway where you can store a nasty artifact? *BAM*

Super secret vault, secure library, secluded pleasure palace . . . The list goes on.

Glibness

There is no such thing as magic. You're a mental patient suffering from delusions. If you settle down and take your medication the world will start to make sense again and you can have a nice walk on the grounds. How does that sound?

Implausible but not technically impossible lie (-10 penalty). +20 to bluff checks to lie. Is the BBEG specced for sense motive? Because I'm a bard with skill focus comedy and prodigy comedy and oratory.

Even if he doesn't choose to cooperate he no longer believes he can cast spells if he fails the opposed check.

Bluff is basically the one skill that can be as good as magic and glibness massively boosts it.

On a comedic note... there has only been one time in my PF gaming career that I've actually had a dice (D4) thrown at me.

BBEG conjurer, 2nd in command witch and 4 magus bodyguards... all effectively gone

The spell responsible?... Greater Forbid Action

Not one of my personal faves, but P4P right up there

My bard called it "instant tactical repositioning". Many the enemy baddie regretted being instantly sandwiched twixt barbarian and paladin.

Blessing of Fervor to make your divine spell caster the party's best friend, Righteous Might for making my oracle of life more than a healbot at mid to high levels, and Grease for the smurf potential at nearly all levels.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Gonna go with the old fallbacks fireball, haste and fly. Prob the most widely used arcane spells in any campaign ive played in other than the cantrips detect magic and prestidigitation

Does Gargamel or Azrael work?

Edit: guess not

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Mad Monkeys, because siccing a horde of screeching monkeys on your enemies is hilarious
Blistering Invective, for AoE intimidates but more importantly the visuals of swearing at your enemies so hard they catch fire
Prestidigitation, because screw needing to strip down to get clean during adventuring

but my absolute fave is FIST

Dark Archive

Sticking to core spells;

Summon monster is super-versatile. So many options, so many other spells available, and feats like Summon Good Monster, Summon Neutral Monster and Summon Evil Monster just make it so much better.

Bestow curse has great potential, if playing with the 'create your own' option. It's particularly fun as a GM tool.

Polymorph any object is ridiculously fun, when you reach the levels to break the game.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Mad Monkeys, because its a hilarious way chase people off your lawn.

Murderous Command because I can turn (n)pcs against eachother.

Extended Blade Barrier because in a slasher game, normal shower curtains don't cut it.

And of course, Greater Planar Smurfing

Nah, that's Liz's favorite. The Community Manager's favorites would be calm emotions, hold monster, and dismissal. ;)
Flagged for implying that the posters are not human. :p

Oh no. Only dismissal works differently on things native and not native, and that says nothing about humans. :-)

Mass Cacophony. Enables bards to get a sick performance!

The more I think about it, the more I like Summon Instrument because it forces me to think outside the box and be creative.

*Eavesdrop through a hole in wall or door with a horn in your ear
*Float across that river by using a large wooden drum
*Climb over that wall by summoning a tall drum
*Slide quickly down a steep slope by summoning a metal gong and riding it
*Create a large metal gong to use as a shield
*Make a poor man's grease spell by smashing a pair of maracas
*Reach that object by summoning an alpine horn
*Throw a tambourine (then un-summon it immediately) as a distraction
*Use a drum as a bucket for carrying large amounts of water/oil/gun powder...
*Place a hand bell on top of a slightly open door as an early warning sound

I'm sure there's more, but these and the ones I've created so far :)

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Unseen Servant, Overland Flight, Mage Hand, etc. because you don't feel like a true spellcaster if you need to physically exert yourself in any way.

Feast On Fear because its a mind-affecting Fort save.

Mad Monkeys because schadenfreude.

Modify memory is great almost whatever you're doing, and so much more subtle than many of the other enchantment spells. Gotta love it.

Siphon magic's good for a laugh. There's nothing more satisfying than stealing someone's permanency, spell resistance or spell turning.

Quite partial to a good Battlemind Link as well, if you have the appropriate party members to benefit from it.

Mad monkeys may not be the most mechanically superior spell to use, but it sure is fun. Plus, I have 3 figures for it from one of the Paizo/Wizkids bundles.

Hideous laughter is another great icebreaker.

I'll have to ask my DM to let me research that "pants" cantrip. Looks too powerful for an at-will cantrip, though. <g>

Blade Barrier would be my favorite. Lower level and arcane... blindness/deafness or acid arrow. Or fire water for those who remember it.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

My favorite spell unfortunately isn't from pathfinder, its from the Neverwinter Nights games: Isaac's Greater Missile Storm

Nothing better than launching massive volleys of magic missiles at people.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Wish - and it duplicates other spells...

At First level?
Hypnotism, "I am your long lost brother/sister" or for Luke, "I am your FATHER!"
Mage Armor, +4 to AC! Shield for same reason. That's +8 before you pull out your tonfa's and go defensive.
Vanish, don't be a target and don't be Les Miserables, avoid the drama and run off with that loaf of bread.

Touch of Sarenrae, Blessing of Fervor, Heal.

Going with what I cast a lot :)
I might add (any) Restoration, (greater) Dispel Magic, Shield Other and Spell resistance, but they are not so glamorous as the arcane stuff.

Ooo... actual favorite, greater status.

Liberating command is available at 1st level and is a huge game-changer. Never worry about grapples again!

Stone shield is fantastic even at high levels. Having one or two of these memorized is almost as good as having a permanent +4 bonus to AC and a +2 bonus to Reflex saves. Note that the bonus is untyped, so it stacks with carrying a shield.

Wartrain mount lets you train any friendly or indifferent animal for combat instantly. A druid can combine this with call animal to raise an army of animals for combat.

You forgot the most important use of all: guitars serve as excellent fuel. With spark or a mundane fire source, you now have an instant bonfire wherever you go. In more technological settings, you can have entire cities running on giant guitar furnaces manned by crews of low-level bards. And the best part is that the guitars disappear entirely after a few minutes, leaving no remains or pollution behind.

Not that it changes much, but I just wanted to point out that the stone shield spell grants cover, which in itself grants a "cover" bonus, not an untyped bonus.

How is a 1-round spell tantamount to having a permanent bonus? It lasts for 1-round!

It's an immediate action to cast, so you can use it as soon as you find out that someone is attacking you. For wizards and other spellcasters who stay away from the front lines, this happens so rarely that you can use the spell almost every time you are attacked.

Sovereign Court

Grease. I put that s&~$ on everything.

The other great thing about stone shield is that the selected enemy can't execute Attacks of Opportunity on you.

Detect magic by far is my most used spell. Since it goes through wood doors i cast it before i go into any wooden door. I use that spell all the time

grease has so many uses and used your entire career.

Next i go with create pit. The spell is awesome and makes me giggle to think of guys falling a pit like they are some looney toon victim.

Silver Crusade

Explode Head. The spell made me laugh out loud when I first read it, and the mental image is a wonderful one.

Almost forgot Telekinetic Charge. Also known as the fighter flinger 9000

Scanners anyone?!?!

Grand Lodge

Surprised nobody has mentioned Unnatural Lust yet!

No love for Confusion? That spell is awesome.

Hold Person is my favorite combat spell. It + a buddy's coup de grace has ended MANY boss fights basically immediately.

I'm another lover of Grease for its versatility. Disarm, crowd control, or huge boost on defense against grapple in one spell.

Fireball is probably my favourite, stick dazing on it to get crowd control, play a blasting build and solve all your problems with it, use it to 'counterspell' by roasting the enemy caster and giving them a rather high concentration check. It's a classic, few things say wizard like fireballs. It targets reflex saves, the worst save for many monsters.

Not the most powerful for their levels, but the one's I've had the most fun casting are wandering star motes and damage loins.
