NEW PROBLEM!!!!!!....Hopefully someone is working on a fix. When I tried to click the download, my Anti-Virus software kicks me off the website because it detects a Trojan Virus.

Oh, fun, just what we need.

What Anti-virus software are you running?

If it's from Eset it appears it's a false positive Reddit post on refresh.bc trojan alerts

wow.. thanks... I did not realize this. yes it was from EEST. I didnot think it might even be a problem until after I logged off and went to another site and got the same message..

It does appear they fixed it though...

New tips for the downloading problem. If the Personalizing ends while you were out, the next time you can click and it will start downloading, otherwise it will start personalizing again.

If you get to personalize one of the files and it gives you the infamous remote3.paizo website that doesn't work, don't worry. The link is fully operational, but the server is taking a lot of time to respond and most browsers have a time-out so that cancels the downloading. Trying the 3 major browsers doesn't seem to work, but there is a workaround. You can try any http downloader. Me myself, am using wget (you can get it on windows here and if you use linux you probably already know how to use it).

To download go to a command line and type <name of the wget exe> <url that doesn't work in the browser> and it will start downloading after a while (It's 5-10 minutes for me, usually).

Seriously? Are people really still complaining after they told everyone exactly what to do to get it to work? It took me around an hour to download all of them the other day. I just had to wait 15 minutes or so after clicking the personalization link before clicking it again... Which is exactly what they have said to do.

Doesn't work for me, and obviously many others.

And that's not even counting the fact that this site straight up doesn't work in Chrome, which is already mind-bogglingly stupid.

Yet another example of DRM screwing the honest consumer. I won't be spending more money with Paizo, ever.

I actually downloaded them with Chrome. I had some major issues for the first few days, but even on my crappy internet I can still download my books.

After six days now I still have just downloaded a few files. It takes ages until the "ready for download" comes up - and when I wait the recommended 15 minutes I get thrown out of the site and have to log in again, with the result, that I have to reinitiate the download again.

Thank you Paizo - I can understand, that you like to get new customers, but although it was a bundle offer, you should think about solutions - and the website not going down at all is a good start. But I don't wnt to spent whole days trying to download what I have just bought.

DRM sucks!

I finally was able to download all the files that I didn't have from the bundle.
Chrome was too exasperating since it kept logging me out so frequently so I used IE 11 (windows 7 pro) and got through them. But I think it was more timing than anything else.

I had to wait about 5 to 10 minutes for the personalizing and then another few minutes before the download would start. And the download speed is slow as well.

Be patient and you will get your files. Paizo's "hw/sw upgrade" only helped marginally.

This is a very common misconception, it seems.

No, you don't.

The point of failure here is the download never reporting when it's ready (which is absolutely something which needs to be changed, going forward), and it doesn't report when it's no longer available.

So, if you catch it between personalisation completing and the download dropping off the server, regardless of whether you've had to log in to My Downloads again, the download will begin.

What's happening in your case is that you're coming back too early (not your fault, you have no way of knowing when's a good time), and clicking the link again. The server checks at that point whether there's a personalised product stored for you, and because there isn't it launches a new personalisation request.

Suggestion: extend your 15 minutes to 30 minutes. That should put you well into the period following completed personalisation and the file dropping from the server (which takes approximately 2 hours from completed personalisation right now).

Edit: Also, just re-read your post - if you're getting "Download will begin in 5 seconds" coming up, and it doesn't start in 5 seconds, don't wait. Right click on the "if it doesn't click here" link, and paste that directly into a browser that's not Chrome. You might need to refresh it a time or two, but it will download.

Ooh, good idea. That's working for me at the moment (wget that is), as long as I can catch the documents between personalising and the files getting dumped. Thanks!

Thank you Alejandro. I had never thought to use a download manager. I've sort of stopped using them since I got higher speed internet in the last few year.

But I just installed one, and you were right... the downloads are starting to trickle through. I guess my download manager has more resilience to the timeouts/delays currently inplay with paizo's site.

Thank you sir!

Two steps forward, one step back, I guess.

I'm getting my file apparently personalized now, when I reclick it, instead of just refreshing the page and going nowhere, it will actually say "Your file will download in 5 seconds"... Then in 5 seconds, it'll refresh to an "ERR_TIMEDOUT" (or something of that nature) page in Chrome, and not actually start the download.

No, you don't.

Well, I don't have to - but I do, because I get no feedback, when my download is ready - so, when I am too fast, it get's reiniciated, when I am too slow, it has been dropped by the server and gets reiniciated

Sorry, but this is inacceptable for paying customers - download by accident! Paizo makes a lot of money now by getting new customers, I think, they should invest it in better download stability. Keeping the website alive is not enough!!!

The current suggestion for this problem is to copy/paste the link's http address into a different web browser such as Microsoft Edge. Also it has been suggested to clear your cache.

It is quite frustrating that we have to guess when the personalisation is complete but it's probably not ideal for Paizo either: They've stated in the update thread (http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2thdr) that each click creates a new request, rather than resetting (or reinitiating) the previous one. Even if you've been logged out, that request is still active.

I may be wrong but once your first request is complete and the file is available, you'll be able to download it, even if you have 4 more requests pending. You haven't started from scratch.

The personalised files do seem to stay available for a decent time. I gave up on a couple last Friday but got the download links straight away today.

Paizo have made efforts to improve the infrastructure but it's not reasonable to expect them to shell out for gear that will be redundant when this surge of users has died down. They're a business who have kindly offered a vast quantity of their products available to you for next to nothing. Why don't you try and think of yourself as a charity donor, rather than a "paying customer"; feel good about donating and feel even better when you get to enjoy the Pathfinder stuff.

Tl;dr. Thanks Paizo, we'll wait.

Yep. I just grabbed a download manager called "EasyGet Lite", free from the Mac App store, and it's working. This app only does 10 downloads at a time so you have to manually clear the downloads that have completed to download more items. No need to buy an app for Macs, just get one that's free.

I'm sitting at 13 of the Season 6 sessions, the GM screen, the Advanced Class Guide, the Advanced Player's Guide, and the Core Rulebook downloaded so far this morning. All things considered that's not too shabby. Thank you IT peoples for making sure your servers don't melt down into puddles of slag and allowing us to get these generous gifts!

EDIT: Let's change that to 15 of the sessions and Ultimate Magic, Ultimate Equipment, Ultimate Combat, Ultimate Campaign and the Strategy Guide.

EDIT 2: I've now got every one of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game section downloaded (the single file variants). Even with hiccups it's coming up aces for me today, so no complaining on my end.

Well, despite the troubles on my first day trying to download the core book, I've been managing to snag the other resources without much issue thus far. Other than Chrome still timing out way too early on the download, but that's Chrome.

Yea, the site's still getting hammered. But patience is the key. I think a bit of patience and understanding is worth it for this amazing deal of a bundle.

I was able to download a number of files this morning using Explorer. Chrome is not working for me at all.

The key is to set a timer for 6 minutes after clicking on the file you want to download. You'll get the wait 10 seconds prompt. Do something else for a couple of minutes.

When the timer goes off, click on the download again, and you should get the auto-download to kick off. Download only one file at a time and help out your fellow purchasers.

Success in downloading files gave me the courage to pick up the PDF for Hell's Vengeance. I bought it and downloaded it straight away with the first attempt. This looks fun.

Update: I have managed to get all the guide books, and the beginers box, and the hells rebels books.

From any amount paid, just 15% go to charity, if you don't change the preset. So from the average payment of $ 18 almost $12 go to Paizo. Yes, this is very cheap, but most of the new customers would probably never have bought anything, so this is good money. And they welcomed us as new customers, so I like to be treated as one.

And you don't need to buy new hardware to fill the needs.

But it's of course, easier just to wait - time will heal the wounds.

Wasted another hour last night trying to download. Thats about 4 hours wasted so far. Clicked a link, waited 45 minutes, checked again - still personalizing. Tried again after 1:15, still personalizing. Went to bed. Whole site is so slow this morning it isn't worth even attempting.

With storage so cheap, why do you make downloads drop off after 2 hours? Spend $500, buy 15TB of USB storage and keep the files long enough for people to download them. Also might want to figure out a way to not kick off a new personalizing job if there is already one in the queue.

I've tried to be patient, but I'm really tired of wasting my time on this problem.

To all those who are complaining about not being able to download their books: I haven't even gotten my code yet, so conder yourself lucky. :P

Speaking of, I'm yet to get any kind of notification about how to claim the books or where to ship my Beginner Box or pay for the BB's shipping. Should I contact Humble Bundle or is that handled on Paizo's end?

Why haven't you gotten your code? It should be on the screen as soon as you complete the purchase on Humble Bundle. That seems odd.

You take the code(s) Humble Bundle gives you and go to paizo.com/humblebundle. You enter the code(s) there to redeem everything.

I have a question but since the files have to be personalized anyway why aren't they watermarked when they are validated to your account?

Hopefully this is a wake up call to Paizo they need better download servers. I have been trying to download my digital copy of inner sea god for 5 days now. No success; each time I click the link I wait for like 2 to 5 hours before trying again. Please fix this issue asap.

When you enter the code on the Paizo website the PDFs will automagically be added to your My Downloads section of the website. If you purchased the physical Beginner Box you will be prompted for shipping and shipping payment information right there on the page.

So, if I've purchased a 3PP product, and it doesn't need to personalize...
how often should I re-try to download it?

Also, if you didn't get the email yet with your codes, try checking your Humble Bundle account. Sometimes the credit you with the codes but their email is sluggish to notify you.

Also, if you do email the HB support, keep note of your case # and if you don't hear from then in a couple of days poke them on Twitter or Facebook with your case #. The last I knew the HB team was something like...7 people, so not a very big team and they can get over whelmed with emails and things slip in cracks.

Cross-posted from the megathread.

We've had reports since the hardware update that there are issues when trying to download using Chrome. Chrome has a hard limit on how long it will wait for downloads until it times out. While other browsers to do have options for users to adjust this time, Chrome does not. At this time, we recommend utilizing a different browser when attempting to download from the My Downloads page.

If you choose to use Firefox as your alternate, user KNHaw has written up an extensive set of instructions to adjust the browsers timeout settings to improve download behavior.

We seem to be getting a better response since the hardware upgrade. Nothing new that I can share about the issues, but I'll post as soon as I hear anything!

Anyone know how Humble Bundle sales usually progress?

Basically, I'm wondering if we can expect to see continually declining purchases and correspondingly improving download times OR if there is likely to be another huge surge in activity towards the end of the sale period.

We're told that typically, the first two days tend to be the biggest—Humble Bundle sends a mailing to their customers during that time, and social media buzz is the highest while it's still newsworthy. In the case of multi-week offerings, they send another mailing in the middle, which usually results in the third biggest day of the campaign. There's also a small peak at the end.

We have been holding off on promoting the Bundle via our own mailings. They'll go out to a far smaller number of people than HB's mailings, but we want to see the load on the download servers abate further before we fire them off. We have more hardware coming online tomorrow, and we hope to be able to kick off those mailings later in the week. Whether they'll result in a big bump or a small one is yet to be seen.

We're not adding anything to it.

Just a note to say I tried downloading the Hell's Vengeance Player's Guide a few days ago - using Safari on an iPad. Seemed to work fine then with next to no waiting period.

Okay, just to help people out some of you and just to let y'all know, I didn't get the Humble Bundle (tight budget, but I'm giving Paizo two thumbs up for helping out those less fortunate by participating in this charity drive! Way to go y'all!), but yes Chrome does like to kill the download and will keep refreshing itself, until it stops (when it does varies) and gives you an error page.

However, I copied and pasted the link when it tried to personalized for my download of the Hell's Vengeance Player's Guide from Chrome to Edge and it worked with very little wait. Took about ten to fourteen minutes. Not bad actually.

HOWEVER you must clear out your caches for both Chrome AND Edge for this work!

I can't say with 100% certainty that it will work for everyone, but it might work.

And once again, a big rebel yell of approval from this South Carolinian to all of y'all at Paizo for this great game and for working hard to fix things and for helping out those less fortunate!

So much for my dreams of the Advanced Races Guide. I was hoping maybe there'd be something for how successful this has been, or as a bit of "thank you for your patience". Ah well.

For the record, everything's been running pretty smoothly for me today, even in Chrome. Managed to snag the other guide books I wanted from my list.

Great. Thanks for the details.

On the new hardware, is this a temporary measure to handle the current surge or are you planning permanent upgrades? Paizo hasn't seen anything on this scale before, but I remember a few years ago a server blew and the downloads were down for the better part of a day... and when the second PFO kickstarter PDF fulfillment came through there was a somewhat similar bottleneck situation for several hours. Can we expect issues like those to be less likely (not that an average of a few hours per year was all that serious to begin with) going forward, or will you scale back to the original hardware once the Humble Bundle crush has passed?

There are a lot of things getting attention here, including faster processing power, more memory, more storage volume, faster storage speed, and more bandwidth. And some of these upgrades have the primary goal of temporarily increasing the load handling, so are short term, while others have the primary goal of improving performance, so are permanent.

my problem is the delivery charge...$50 to $60 for the beginner box! are you serious?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Hey, whatever you folks did during the maintenance/upgrade, it seems to be working. (Or, it's so soon after the "down for maintenance" period that nobody's trying to download anything but me. But hey, it still works. ;) )

The download itself is still very slow (~150 mins for 115 MB) but it starts quickly enough, so the watermarking's being done much faster, I guess.

So... Thanks! :)

Everything's downloaded for me, thanks for the bundle! I do fear however, due to huge negative responses, there won't be any other Paizo offerings in the future. I would have liked to see some other formats of bundles (but would not hold my breath for it).

I was having problems on both Chrome and IE until I re-enabled SSL 3.0 and TLS 1.0. I had turned these off due to the vulnerabilities discovered over a year ago with these protocols.

Paizo really needs to re-configure their servers to turn off these insecure protocols.

With the right volume it should be possible to manage lower delivery costs. Alternatively, if there's enough in the UK, make a deal with someone in the UK to make a larger shipment and ship from there, so only the UK leg is paid individually. Since we've got the PDF downloads (or will do), then we may be happy with surface shipping - slow but much cheaper. Paizo may be charging what it's costing them, but that doesn't confirm that they're doing all they can to minimise that cost.

So, onto the downloads. Here's a small but significant suggested change. Instead of clicking on the same link and guessing if it's generated, possibly regenerating it, email a link to the download when it has generated. Then you're not left retrying and overloading the system, you get notified. When you get the email, the file is ready, you get the file, however long that is. No guessing, no timeout login, no repeated request.

In the earliest days of Paizo, we worked with a couple of different companies in the UK to handle European fulfillment for us, and it was a terrible experience for everyone involved, including our customers. Bringing our service fully under our own control was one of the best things we ever did.

Short of fulfilling from within Europe, if you can find a way to ship a package that weighs 4 pounds or more to Europe cheaper than we can, by all means, let me know. Three of Paizo's most important products—the Core Rulebook, the Beginner Box, and our Adventure Card Game Base Sets—are all over that limit, so I can assure you that we've explored every option we're aware of. (The USPS stopped offering surface mail in 2007.)
