I peer into this thread cautiously, like a child when looking into the room where the adults are sitting for thanksgiving wondering if the food tastes any better even though she knows it looks disgusting, and I wonder if there is a cathartic goal to be had here, a healing balm to apply to the countless indignities wrought upon the soul by infractions of play and dice stepped on in the night when the table wasn't cleared after a run in with a goblin horde, and I ask myself, why, why is it that posting of grievances should take on such weight, yet at the same time be light with the merriment of old friends sharing the Mountain Dew and Cheetos of game sessions gone on too long, and...
I post something

It's 5:10 AM in my time zone (Central US) and I've not been able to get a wink of sleep, no matter what I've tried. I have a full day later on and I am currently quite unhappy about this situation. I very tired, very sleepy, but actual sleep eludes me. I can't even work on this weekend's adventure I'm so beat. So I've lain in bed, wasting time, and cursing the normally comforting darkness for its mocking my attempts at sleep.

I can usually manage if someone or even two people miss a game. We just say they wandered off into another area. The running joke is that they have jury duty.
*shudder* Arcane disciples of the god of law popping up and spiriting party members back to major cities for jury duty out of nowwhere. Time to add that to my homebrew.

Psst.
Nope, that was just somebody necro-ing a thread from when he took a hiatus eight years ago. Grievance denied. ;)

Well, I'm selfishly glad I didn't miss a session, but maybe we should come up with an in-game reason why a character is missing. When our inquisitor has been absent a few times in the past the GM ruled that he'd used his ring of teleportation to go back to our home base. My cleric created a sanctuary and has scrolls of word of recall that he can use to go back there. Maybe he could have gone home to get something he forgot. ;-)

My best player (and the one who's been with me the longest - 30 years) is thinking of "retiring" from gaming once the current campaign we're running ends. His goal is to reach 20th level. Right now he's close to 14th with 3 Mythic Tiers. I'd hate to lose him after so many years, so I hope he changes his mind when that time comes.

I can never seem to find a good-fitting pair of pants. (Trousers, for those across the pond.)
I have pants that when I put them on in the morning, they feel snug, possibly even tight. But if I don't wear a belt with them (Which I seem to forget/think I 'won't need it' frequently) I'll be hiking my pants up all afternoon, or else walking around with my pants around my knees. And it's rapidly becoming winter up here in Canada.

Cotton stretches as you wear it. I suggest suspenders. :-)

Grievance: Reading comprehension. Or rather, the lack thereof.
Thread comes up about how to defeat a high-level caster, and I write up a list of obstacles that you'd have to overcome, including 24hr/day flight, the ability to live in a private plane of your own making, the possibility of being warned by God that the attacker is coming and go chill in heaven until it's safe, etc.
Somebody replies (to my post in particular) with the grand conclusion that he'll "just use ranged attacks". Solved!
Good job, buddy. Good job.

It bothers me how some players and DMs downplay how effective magic can be. Unless the caster is completly caught by surprise and no preparation whatsoever. One needs more than ranged attacks. It's like saying that one is simply going to walk up to the Wizards tower and simply and easily kill a sleeping Wizard. It's not as if he or she has any magic spells prepared for such a eventuallity or anything.

Whenever the subject of a presumed "unbeatable foe" comes up, I am reminded of a sequence in the Ironwood comic (nsfw) by Bill Willingham, where the young offspring of a dragon and human coupling, who is in human form, is confronted with perhaps the greatest swordsman in the land, and stealing a line from Butch and Sundance, proceeds to lift up a boulder that is easily several tons in weight and over twelve feet high, and says
"Somebody say one, two, three, go," and the swordsman immediately surrenders.
