Who?

David Tennant. AKA the Tenth Doctor on Doctor Who (unless the "Who?" was a joke in referencing that) and Barty Crouch Jr. from Harry Potter.

His HP performance was extremely hammy, with lots of bizarre facial expressions and weird vocal inflections, so the expectation is that playing another villain he'll be likewise devouring the scenery with gusto.

... unless you meant "Who is Tennant playing?" In which case I have no idea.

Kind of incredible how much vagueness of intention could be compressed into a single word, isn't it?

Doubly so with sarcasm potentially involved.

Given your forum name, you would be inclined to say that.

Oh Hell yes this looks good. So excited. Purple Man is gonna be the darkest villain in MCU so far, and he sounds just right.

yeah...That is a really great trailer I have to say. Killgrave seems like he is going to make as awesome a villain as Fisk, and probably even creepier.

wow. Why is it not NOVEMBER 20th already?

This will be amazing. I hope there's sex scenes. She's dangerously hot.

To be fair some of the female costars are at least just as attractive.

That trailer was even darker than I thought.

Excellent.

The Exchange

Seems like I'm the only one not excited about the trailer. I guess I wanted to see more of a sample of the kind of action scenes we'll see in the series, and there wasn't any of that.

Then again, I remember being unexcited by the Daredevil trailer too, so... guess this doesn't mean much.

marvel is where dark is now... and no way... i think she's 345% hotter than the costars :)

Liberty's Edge

While DC has spikes of darkness, Marvel has always leaned darker in general. Part of the Marvel characters being people rather than archetypes.

Beauty is in the Eye of the non SRD Eye Tyrant ... to your own tastes be true.

I was a few meters from each of the cast members for a significant duration and an extra in an episode and got to interact with some of them, and I am partial to blondes so, with respects, I'll stick to my guns here.

Yeah, I think the "marvel characters being people rather than archetypes" was pretty much over as a distinguishing thing by the early 80s. And both have played with dark since then.

Liberty's Edge

I said DC had spikes of dark.

None can be darker than Grimdark!

Latest trailer.

So that's Spider Woman and Purple Man?

...

They're really digging deep for TV stuff. I read Marvel for years, from 1980 - 2000 and even worked in a comic book store and I don't remember ANYTHING on these 2.

No wait, I do remember a couple things. I thought Spider Woman was a silly psychic version of Spider Man and she was de-powered and I thought Purple Man was a joke villain. Also I don't remember either of them being particularly dark.

Can anyone explain?

Jessica Jones is a new character. Her creator wanted to use Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman, but couldn't, for whatever reason, so he made up a new character named Jessica, with generic 'Superman-lite' powers of super-strength, toughness and flight, and presented her as a retired former super-hero (having gone under names like Jewel, Knightress and Power Woman?) running a detective agency.

She's since gone on to marry Luke Cage, and have a child, Danielle (who in at least alternate future is the super-strong Captain America of her world!), and been, unfortunately, kind of 'Luke's girlfriend' in later appearances. (I don't really like the character, but if she's going to be used at all, she should be treated better than that.)

The 'silly psychic version' was the *second* Spider-Woman, Julia Carpenter, introduced during the first Secret Wars, able to generate psychic webs. She's unrelated to either the first Spider-Woman or this new character, and has been mostly abandoned and forgotten.

Purple Man started out kind of joke-y, but Bendis turned the joke dark in his run, with stuff that will likely be spoiler-y for the Netflix series. The character was used pretty well during the middle of the Thunderbolts run, but ever since, he's been pretty hard to use, much like DC's Dr. Light.

He's also got a daughter, Kara Kilgrave, the Purple Girl, who has been a third-tier Alpha Flight recruit and then member and then adversary. (Covering all the bases, apparently!)

Spoiler:
Whether or not the Purple Man used his powers to rape people, such as Jessica Jones, was confirmed and then denied so many times that it's pretty much a bad joke, by this point. He does more recently do dark stuff like mind controlling people to jump off buildings as a distraction so that he can get away from whatever superhero is after him.

Bedis has gone on record many times saying that this simply isnt true.

I'm just going with what he said before, I'm sure he's changed the story multiple times, since he does that a lot.

In a 2005 interview,[2] Bendis claimed that "[o]riginally, Alias was going to star Jessica Drew, but it became something else entirely. Which is good, because had we used Jessica, it would have been off continuity and bad storytelling." Previously, Bendis commented "I was at one time toying with doing Jessica Drew [in Alias] because she has the best hair of any superhero in comics, but this book is entirely different than what that idea was to be."[3] Although both statements make clear that Drew was a part of Bendis' earliest conception of Alias, by the time he was actively developing the title, Jones was his central character, one with a distinct background and voice from Drew.[4]

Yeah but that's still very different than what you originally wrote there. You stated that he wanted to use Drew but couldn't for whatever reason. That's very different than him toying with the idea of using Drew and then deciding against it.

Not looking to start a fight just felt that what you said kinda misrepresented everything that I've read and actually heard him say at cons when straight up asked about that.

I don't know Jones as a Marvel character, but I'm going to watch everything after these trailers. Looks amazing.

Hopefully Iron Fist soon!

Dark Archive

The show runners still do not have a definitive version of Iron Fist they want to do.

Will there be magic and mysticism? Probably, but what level? Once the "magic bag" is opened that little rabbit hole can up end a lot of the other projects Marvel/Netflix has. They also want to keep the story arc separate from their other projects, at least for now.

While there were some thoughts Iron Fist would be out by the late fall of 2016, that will probably be pushed back later.

Dark Archive

Since Iron Fist is my favorite of the four characters they've chosen to focus on, I'm a little disappointed by that. (Indeed, one of the things I'm looking forward to about Jessica Jones is how casually she's been showing off super-strength during the trailers. It's definitely long past time for a Marvel super-heroine whose super-powers are more super than 'good with guns' or 'has green skin and some undefined bionic enhancements.')

That said, Jessica Jones (or Carol Danvers, for that matter, since the 'Superman-lite' powerset always felt like it played better over at DC) would be way down on my list, after super-ladies like Monica Rambeau, Crystal, Songbird, Elsa Bloodstone, Moondragon, either of the Spider-Women, (or, for 'strong/tough' ones, Valkyrie, Sif or Molly Hayes) etc. but if she's what they want to go with, I'll take it.

K'un Lun and the dragon might be a bit out there by the standards of what we saw in Daredevil, where the 'super' hero had the amazing power of being less blind than most blind people, but it's set in a universe with Asgardians and dark elves and alien Chitauri and Infinity Stones and Inhumans and gamma-powered Hulks, and is on the verge of introducing Dr. Strange, so it's got plenty of room for mystical cities and giant fire-breathing lizards, IMO.

A more mystical edge to the Iron Fist story could tie in nicely to what's going to be introduced in Dr. Strange.

I still kind of want to see Misty Knight as well. :)

Liberty's Edge

I think they will absolutely wait until they roll out Dr. Strange and define how magic and mysticism fits into everything before seriously considering Iron Fist.

Totally different topic, but I wouldn't mind seeing Moon Knight make an appearance somewhere ....

Well, Doctors Strange movie will come before Iron Fist series, so that might be what they are doing.

Oh my god what I would pay to see Moon Knight in Netflix tv-series. That dude's AWESOME.

Was there not a rumor that Moonknight might get a series?

Yeah a netflix series has been rumored for Moon Knight...the most recent rumor I saw was that he might get introduced ala Punisher in someone else's show.

Also chiming in to say I'll be greatly disappointed if Iron Fist gets pushed back too. Can't get enough of kung fu.

The more clips I see of Jessica Jones the more eager I am looking forward to it. Gonna take a lot of willpower not to binge it in one sitting I think.
