Interest check: Serpent's Skull PbP campaign

Recruitment

1 person marked this as a favorite.

So, after a long time spent seriously considering all the facets of the thing, seems like I'm inclined to start a new experience as PbP GM.
I really love APs, so I'm choosing the one I've GMed more than others for my first attempt: Serpent's Skull.

This post is intended to check users' interest about my project, interest which must take into consideration the list of things detailed below:

  • English is not my mother language. I'm Italian, and even if I have the honor to be one the official translator for Pathfinder's products in my country, I could well make some linguistical mistakes in my posts.

  • I would require a character's creation process that's slightly different and more time consuming (but also more rewarding) if compared to what I see is the standard with PbP campaigns: with this I mean in-depth additional reading to make sure that the character does fit perfectly to both the campaign and the campaign setting; a stronger focus on background info of all sorts; creation of a character SPECIFIC to the Serpent's Skull AP.

  • I intend to consider "legal" for the campaign in terms of characters' creations and development only those sources that were available when the Serpent's Skull AP came out: I would post a detailed list of legal sources to which players must conform to. The reason beyond this choice is that I really love every single handbook published by Paizo, and restricting the options gives me the chance to see some sources thoroughly exploited, without considering the fact that this choice allows grater mastery of the game for me.

  • I'd like to have at least one experienced PbP player that could help me in the harsh beginnings, helping solving problems that may occur.

  • The starting idea is to run the first module of the AP, "Souls for Smuggler's Shiv", as a standalone adventure: if we like it, we can follow with the rest of the AP; if we don't, we would have played nonetheless one of the most exciting first modules in the history of Adventure Paths (IMO).

  • The campaign would start in September, giving the applicants time to conceive their characters.

Looking forward to know if are there enough people who intend to applicate and if I can get any suggestions that the extraordinary people here has got for a fresh new PbP GM.

I would like to play and would be happy to be the experienced hand. I've played games here and off-site for years now. Am in two nice games right now, with big goals (and have been playing for months now).

One quick question, have you GM'ed before? Even if not PBP?

Of course yes. I GM'ed Council of Thieves, Serpent's Skull (two times) and Carrion Crown until the end of each in person. I also GM'ed Rise of The Runelords, stopping at chapter 4. I'm actually GM'ing Skulls & Shackles for my physical players.

Then put me down, no doubts!

Serpent's Skull probably has my favorite setting of the APs so your character creation is of interest to me. I always feel a little off put when I see those recruited for a PbP and sometimes realize none of them really fit in with the campaign about to be played. Starting in September is also useful because I will be on vacation until September 1st, though I could certainly start character creation while I am away.

I will tell you now that if you posted the recruitment thread you will have tons of interest, APs always do. You'll have a lot of people to pick from but it can be a lot of work to do so.

Dark Archive

Im down, and would love to be part of this adventure. I am not experienced in PbP, but have been playing D&D for years.

My character's creation requirements will be very demanding, since I am going to ask to any player who applies to read some pages from various sources regarding the campaign setting. I wish this can help to reduce the number of people demanding for a spot, at least those who aren't really interested.

For example, as you may already know, PCs are supposed to hail from one of various cities (Corentyn, Senghor, Bloodcove, Magnimar, Corentyn, Ilizmagorti, etc.): PCs backgrounds and personality must reflect this origin, since many of those cities are very well detailed (in books such as Cities of Golarion, Magnimar, City of Monuments, Heart of the Jungle and so on). My intent is to choose those whose characters fits best with the AP and prove that they're part of Golarion both in background, motivations, personality and player's options (such as archetypes, feats and so on). I want players to be part of the Serpent's Skull world, I want characters who are heavily involved in the stories we're going to tell, and not only universals that go floating around the world in search of a suitable adventure to join.

Dot

I'm very interested in this ap.

I'd have to do some research on what sources were available at the time, but count me interested.

I am interested.

I like your style Giuseppe, I'll definitely be submitting a character for this campaign when the time comes.

The bulk of your character creation requirements don't phase me in the least. I tend to do a fair amount of extra reading when creating a character for a campaign regardless of requirements. Like you I'm not a fan of reusing character ideas regardless of how well they fit the specific adventure.

I do admit that limiting our sources to effectively APG and prior gives me slight pause but I'm certain there will be more than enough material for me to work with. After all, I didn't have any complaints about a lack of options while building characters in 2010.

Anyway, restrictions or no, I'm certain you'll have a fair number of interested players for this game. I eagerly await the recruitment thread!

Consider me interested as well. ..your process sounds interesting

If I can get a list of products that were out at the time of release, I'd be more than happy to come up with a suitable character. Still reletively new to PbP, but am always looking forward to expanding my repertoire.

So, we have 9 interested players already. Guess it's time to open the recruitment thread. I'll do it today or tomorrow. Stay tuned!

I'm interested too. Looking forward to seeing the submissions!

In the meanwhile, everyone can take a look at the list of legal sources I recently published.

I'm interested. I will be making a human (mwangi) witch.
