One thing I'd have to ask of publishers is to note the date when they'll stop looking or at the very least post when they have filled the project.
This is for the sake of your sanity and anyone else who tries to query a year old project you filled within a week of posting.
Hence the "Respond By" option, and yeah, follow up would be good. :D

What kind of monsters would you like?
Honestly, creative as possible. Take a look at the monsters we have done already for NeoExodus and see what you might be able to add to the setting.

Would it be possible to add sample monster statblock to the guidelines - do you use any sort of header for the name of the monster (and possibly lower tier headers for sections of the template) or is the whole monster entry plain text without headers?

I will see what I can do about that. Thanks for the interest.

Question, I do have a sample of my work, but its for something that hasn't been released yet and I'm not sure I can use it. Can I give a link to where I've posted up some monsters online for this?

Therefore, those who apply will be sent a small assignment first, followed by longer assignments when the first is finished depending on quality and how we all felt about the process. Those who work out particularly well will find more work at higher rates coming their way in the future.

Just to let all yo know, we at LPJ Design have four several new writers who we like and have assigned projects to already. So if you are interested and not sure you think you can be good at this, I will just say, don't miss out on your dreams because you are afraid to go after them. Those guys did and now they are going to have writing credits with the 3PP that MANY well know Pathfinder, WOTC and OGL writers worked with including Owen KC Stephens, Neil Spicer, Tim Hitchcock and MANY more. It is your job to loose.

Is there a time frame in which I should expect a response? I imagine you have high volumes of e-mails to filter through, but if my proposal is denied will I at least be informed?

I'd give him a few days, especially over the weekend. If he doesn't reply in a couple of days, ping him.

I've been accepted as cartographer by the art director, at least.
Do you mean he is or isn't responding, congrats on the map position tho.

Felipe is, but as said, it took a full 7 days before I got a response, whereas for illustration work the art director responded the next day. I imagine there has been far more submissions for writing than illustrating, at least at the start of the Open Call.

I submitted my portfolio on the first day of this announcement. Perhaps he's gotten busy with more submissions since then. He noted I was the first cartographer that applied, though it was my portfolio that got me in.

When writing adventures for freelance gigs in general, is there a specific outline that I should follow in terms of organizing the adventure? The style guides I've read deal with general writing guidelines and formatting of game terms, but not necessarily on how to layout an adventure.
If the publisher doesn't provide you with a specific format, then I suggest going with what works. Find a Pathfinder adventure you own that really worked well for you, and use it as a template for how you organize your information and layout.

To add to my fellow ancient terror's suggestion I'd personally suggest finding an old copy of Dungeon magazine and using that as a guide as well. This is especially true if you're planning on contributing to a smaller publication.

...but one thing I know that publishers appreciate is when writers follow their house styles. If you are pitching to a specific company, look at some of the similar products and match that format. Not everyone uses a formulaic approach to their material, but almost everyone out there has particular ways they do things. If you're working on something that is like something else they've done, match that format and style.
Of course, there are always exceptions and I'm totally willing to be wrong. :)
