My first thought was Rakshasa! So I checked the d20pfsrd for racial paragons only to discover it was already done by Rite Publishing... :(

Yup, make sure they aren't done by anybody else! Try to find that overlap between something people would want to play, and something that hasn't been done by somebody else.
(Non-humanoids are fine, if not encouraged).

I've not run into this concept, before: "paragon/racial classes"?

Other than picking this up in a published supplement, is there somewhere online that describes this well? I've not found anything on the d20pfsrd.

Curiously yours,

Rakshasa Paragon Class on d20pfsrd.

Basically it's making a monster a playable class.

I am really interested in this... Just gotta find the right creature...

So say we all...

Gotcha; thank you!

Shadow Lodge

Please make sure that you do not pitch classes that have already been covered by other publishers. You can check on that here.

And don't forget, we are looking for three related paragon racial classes.

@Broken Zenith: Jeff, I see the respond by date for pitches is 3/17, but do you have a deadline for delivery of the finished assignment yet? I don't want to pitch something if I know I won't have time to finish by the deadline.

Shadow Lodge

Hey Russ - the deadline for this would be about a month from when I accept it. Something like first draft by late April, and final draft by early May. I can be flexible on this one though.

Fat Goblin Games is seeking a Line Developer for its successful Shadows over Vathak cosmic, Gothic horror setting for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. Duties will include writing and editing multiple books in an ongoing series, that range from short 10 page adventures to full setting resource guides upwards of 500 pages. Compensation will vary depending on specific role for each book in the line (primary writer, content editor, line development only, etc.) but typically be paid as percentage of profits. Opportunities exist to revise and re-release many existing books as well as develop all new texts. Once part of the Goblin Hoarde of Fat Goblin Games’ freelancers, additional writing and development opportunities are possible depending on your availability and aptitudes.

Interested parties should contact Rick Hershey at fatgoblingames@gmail.com While no specific, minimum previous experience in tabletop roleplaying game writing and editing is required, you should plan to provide samples of your writing for both lore (fluff) and game mechanics (crunch) specifically for the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, and provide evidence of your ability to work in groups as well as manage a team of freelancers on a large project of this nature.

Note: Shadows over Vathak is a HORROR setting, and many of the topics and themes that the setting works in are… horrific. Providing clear evidence that you “understand” horror as a genre and are both comfortable writing about it, but also able to evoke the needed feel and terror of writing horror are clear asset we hope to find.

Question. Would it be possible to pitch more than one concept of related paragon racial classes. (two sets of three for example)?

Zenith Games is looking for Authors for the The Simple NPC Codex
Project Length: 80 NPC Statblocks
Pay Rate: $1.50 Per Statblock or by experience

Additional details:This is a bit of an usual one. I'm looking for authors to write out statblocks for NPCs levels 1-20 in four new classes: The Simple Fighter, Simple Wizard, Simple Cleric, and Simple Rogue (80 Statblocks total). These classes (which I will provide) are designed with complete simplicity of play in mind. They don't earn feats and have very straightforward rules. They are used for NPCs or players new to the game.

You must be extremely proficient in creature statblocks. These will be the easiest statblocks you have ever written, but you should still have a good handle on things. Please send me your credits and a writing sample/published product (including monster statblocks, if possible). If you would be happy to work for less than $1.50 per Statblock, then please let me know. You don't need to pitch anything for this book.

What does 'by experience' mean here, and are we to assume that stat blocks are going to be around 150 words? I mean a standard stat block is around 600-700 words, can your classes really condense it down that much? You talk about not needing feats, but that's maybe 40 words at most for a lot of stat blocks.

Statblocks will probably be between 100 - 250 words.

Given the project, you won't need to come up with creative backstories, write plot, generate ideas, playtest, etc. About half of the word count is pregenerated, and about 95% of the word count is repeated between levels. ... Essentially, you'll just need to run the calculations.

"By experience" means that if you want to get your feet wet and are happy to do it for less than $1.50 per statblock, let me know.

Would we be provided with lists of equipment etc per level and have the responsibility of ensuring the numbers reflect the equipment/stat/class ability upgrades?

Shadow Lodge

Mark Thomas 66 wrote:

Yes, that's about right. The equipment is going to be the standard ring of protection, weapon + armor +, headband of x, belt of x ... you'll need to figure out the appropriate level and cost of each per level. Going up one level at a time, you'll basically need to look at how much money the NPC gets, upgrade one thing, and leave everything else the same.

Zenith Games looking for Playtesters for We Be Leshys
Project Length: 1 playtest 3-4 hours long
Pay Rate: Copy of final module

Additional details: I'm looking for a few groups to playtest our upcoming We Be Leshys module by Jeff Gomez and Mike Welham . The module is about 3-4 hours long. It has its own custom leshys that the players will be play testing, so it's unlikely to fit into your existing campaign. After you run it, I'd like a few paragraphs on your thoughts, and I may ask additional questions. Your group will be credited in the final module (if you like), and you will receive a copy of the final module.

You'll need to be able to run it and get notes back to me before the end of May.

We Be Dragons will be found on our products page as well as Paizo and RPGnow.

Respond to: zenithgames.blog@gmail.com with your name, credits (if any - not required), and when you would be able to play. Subject line should be "We Be Leshys Playtester"

3-5 Players, but easily adjusted for more or fewer.

The "Level" is 6, but the player characters are provided within the module.

So, is there really likely to be much of a pitch, in this case? It sounds like the traditional sense of a pitch ("here's my cool idea I want to expand on") doesn't really apply too well to this. Is that a correct interpretation? Or is there more to this than calculations and bookkeeping?

D20Pfsrd Publishing is looking for authors for the Affordable Arcana series.
Project Length: 6-8,000 words
Pay Rate: $0.01 per word. (In case of doubt, 1 cent per word)

D20 PFSRD Publishing is looking to, in effect, restart our Affordable Arcana series. This is a series where we present a bunch of magic items, created and priced to be affordable. (Our first series was about magic staffs, priced to be affordable for low level adventurers, and we'd be looking to make similar magic items for the "low level market", with each book themed around a single type of item (rods, ring, wondrous items, and so on).

Respond to: curtisin@gmail.com with your name, credits, and pitch (which should be around 500 words, and include a single item (which would be included in an eventual release). Subject line should be "D20PFSRD Affordable Arcana"

Respond by: June 15th (deadlines will be agreed on an individual basis, but will generally be a month after we accept your pitch, with a final deadline including editing 2 weeks later).

Can/should we include background information and additional information about our example item besides just a short description and statistics?

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32

Hi Chance,

We're not looking for plot-devices so background info for ech item isn't needed. In effect it wotks similarly to Paizo's RPG Superstar, so it's similar rules for item.
Your pitch or article could well introduce rules and backgrounds for variant items however, like how the previous one introduced cracked staves. (Upon acceptance of your pitch, you'll be sent a copy of that book, so.that you'll have an idea of what we are looking to do).

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32

And I should apologize for the poor spelling. That's what happens when you answer on a phone, while shopping. :-P

So your next project is focusing on which type of affordable items; rings, wands, or just a broad book on all types this time?

Would seem better if people knew whether you were planning to focus on rods or just release a compendium of sorts so you don't end up with a bunch of good ideas but not enough of a certain type to get the next in the series out or you were planning to do wands, but just end up with a big collection of wondrous items. Also, do you want more staves, or are you done with those for now?

Or is that not a problem? I suppose you could collect the submissions and see which category is expansive enough and run with it from there.

Hmm... *looks at document full of about 400 magic items he created over the past year*

I'll send a message after collating.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32

Hey Pizza Lord,

The plan is for each author to focus on one type of items. So author one might do rods, author two rings and so on. As the previous release for staves is several years old, staves are not out of the question, but an author working with staves will need to ensure compatability with the previous release.
And while a compendium of items is attractive, that would be further down the road, provided the range is successfully brought back to life.

For Benjamin: Looking forward to seeing what you have. Just remember that the same advise that Sean K. Reynolds provided for RPG Superstar applies here too, (so no joke items, plot devices, spells in a can and so on).

Oh, I totally understand. Are you looking for the same stuff as listed in the Staves accurate, for sub-1,000 gp items? I was doing a magic item a day for a year (sometimes more), and did sub-1k items for every slot for a couple of weeks.

RPG Superstar 2009 Top 16

That answered a number of my questions, so it would be best to pick a focus and thin about material to fill out a book based on affordable items of that type, correct?

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32

Benjamin/Matt: That's a yes to both your questions. :-)

To clarify, the pitch should be a single 500-word item? Not multiple items that add up to 500 words or a single shorter item?

*finishes collating items*

Hmm... nope, don't have enough that fit your needs, Curtisin. Only have 3100 words worth, as far too many are too simple, or are at or above 1k, so I'll bow out.

On the other hand, if any other publishers need just over 400 magic items, feel free to contact me. I'm never going to do anything with them.

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32

Hi SirCasimir,

The item should not be the entire pitch. Only about half. The rest should be a general idea for where you want to take the book, for example if you have ideas on a set of feats or traits that could help with making low-cost items or how damaged versions might be cheaper. (Like the ctacked staffs in the 1st book).
I'm not going to say that it'll be all magic items in the book, though most likely will be, as I don't want to stifle anyone's creativity. :-)
