I have a 14th level Life Oracle (Soon to be 15) that needs some gear suggestions of things that I don't already have or am considering listed below. Discovering the Ring of Protected Life has instigated this post, and am wondering if there is some other really useful things I've totally overlooked. The items don't have to be directly healing in nature, but hopefully some stuff that I have overlooked that is useful for a full caster/buffer/healer/re-roll forcer.
Stuff I have already:
Mithral Armor/Shield
Jingasa of the Fortunate Soldier
Phylactery of Positive Channeling
Amulet of Natural Armor +1 (Can sell for sweet neck item)
Cloak of Resistance +5
Gloves of Elvenkind
Ring of Protected Life
Belt of Mighty Constitution +6
Various Ioun Stones (+1 Saves, +2 Cha (buying higher next level), + 1 saves vs. death effects, +1 AC, +1 Initiative)
Luck Stone
Stuff I am considering/aware of:
Dueling Spiked Gauntlets
Various Metamagic Rods
Various Ioun Stones
Arachnid Goggles or + perception goggles
Mealable Holy Symbol
Numerical Upgrades to stuff I already have
Heavy Fortification Armor/shield enchant
Deathless Armor Enchant
Ring of Protection
Ring of Evasion
Ring of Freedom of Movement
Unfettered Shirt
Staff of the Master Necromancer
Ring of Revelation

I believe that Duelling only works if you are attacking with the weapon.
I would want a Charisma headband over the Phylactery. Two extra channels, bonus spell slots and +2DC is a better deal than 2d6 healing at level 14. You mention upgrading the Ioun Stone but as far as I am aware you cannot do so within the standard rules. If you are playing in PFS this will be an issue.
I would skip the Ring of Protection and use Shield of Faith. Similarly Freedom of Movement is great but you can cast the spell. Evasion is decent but Revelation is better, especially if you have the UMD to activate off Mystery Revelations. War Sight is extremely potent. Similarly the Staff is amazing but it depends on what Metamagic feats you know. I would definitely get Eyes of the Eagle, they are cheap and very effective. Same with a Handy Haversack.
Other things to consider include Pages of Spell Knowledge, back up wands and scrolls, Orange Ioun Stone or Karmic Prayer Bead. You might also be near the point where you can start investing in Charisma tomes.

Dueling adds to initiative, so it doesn't make any sense that it works only if attacking since no one is attacking out of combat.
The stacking charisma ioun stones cost 24k each, my channel heals/damages for 13d6 and can do so as a move or swift action. So worth it to me.
Yeah that is what I am doing now with shield of faith, I put the list of things I'm aware of to cut down on countless suggestions I was aware of.
I have all the revelations I want from Life. I don't think I can use it to get revelations from other schools, please explain?

You can use UMD to emulate a class feature allowing you to access other revelations from different mysteries using the Ring.
Duelling may well fall foul of the stupid Defending weapon FAQ. It the duelling weapon has to be wielded then you need to be attacking with it to gain the bonus. No it doesn't make any sense.

Sandals of Quick Reaction let you use a metamagiced spell in the surprise round (if you get to act at all).
It can be useful to have some way of stepping up your game when you expect extra danger. You should be able to afford some Incense of Meditation.
With ioun stones you may well want a wayfinder of some sort.

Though there are stackable Ioun stones, like the Crimson Sphere Ioun stone for Intelligence, there are no stackable Ioun Stones for Charisma. It is only bought as an 8k Ioun stone that only gives +2.
The only two Attributes that can stack with Ioun stones are Intelligence (Crimson Sphere) and Constitution (Onyx Rhomboid).

I have a 13 Life Oracle in PFS myself. My stats are at http://paizo.com/people/KaerilAdon .
Here are some of the ideas I have:
Reach Rods: The lesser for Shield Other, the regular one for Breath of Life.
Long Spear: Stand behind the tank and assist when not using spells. You can add to his AC or +hit.
Flight: If you have the money just get Wings of Flight.
Ring of Invisibility: A lot of creatures can See Invisibility at the higher level, but it is a way to keep the mooks away.
Circlet of Persuasion: Gives you a +3 to all charisma based skill checks, a must for any high cha character. Also, some GM's may allow this to apply to Concentration checks.
Ghostvision Gloves: With Channel Energy you can make a ranged touch attack on undead creatures....and roll d12s.
Also, how are you wearing Mithril Fullplate. You don't have Heavy Armor Proficiency listed?
I know I plan on dumping my charisma headband for the Phylactery as soon as I can get the money. I know that Angelic Wings aren't quite optimal, I got them for flavor more than anything.

Anyone can wear Full Plate. If the are not proficient with it, the Armor Check Penalty applies to their attack rolls in addition to the STR/Dex Skill checks.
So you can have a Wizard in Full Plate and a Tower Shield casting Still Fireballs (No Somatic component for Arcane Spell Failure) with ease. Or in this case, a Life Oracle channeling in Full Plate.

Save money and use a headband.

So it does. And you're not allowed to combine items in PFS.
Hrm! $$$ not fun. Is the extra +2d6 worth it?==Aelryinth

L16 PFS Dual-Cursed Life Oracle here
What you want depends on your party because odds are that post L12 you are adventuring with a small dedicated group.
At higher levels, I dumped my phylactery and went with a +6 Headband. The extra spells and boosted DCs make the difference.
I'm a Life-Link/Shield Other-style Life Oracle--I LL the entire party and SO the wizard (and sometimes the bard).
Aegis of Recovery
Belt of Con +6
Cloak of Resist +5
Handy Haversack
Headband of Cha +6
Ioun Stone, Saves +1
Mnemonic Vestment + situational scroll library
Page of Spell Knowledge
+1 Determination Breastplate
Buckler
Banner of the Ancient Kings
If I seem light on gear, I'm sitting on like 80K gp and waiting to see what the next adventure & exact party comp will be. The wizard has an Orange Prism Ioun Stone we share when doling out typical all day buffs the night before we go to sleep and any situational 1 hr/level or 10 min/level buffs we discover we need during the day. I've been putting off picking a Ring of Freedom of Movement but that's pretty high on my list -- since my group has a kitted out mounted ranger archer, a pouncing barbarian and a high initiative conjurer I've kinda slacked as they rocket tag the hell out of encounters.

By the time you can afford a 53K breastplate, odds are your wizard/sorceror is already throwing up Stoneskin on a regular basis (or you are via UMD). If you have a slotted Orange Prism Ioun Stone, you're getting 1d4-1 CL on all your spells, not just your cure spells (and you should definitely be casting more than cure spells on a regular basis).
So, you're purchasing a 3/day personal mobile globe of invulnerability that disappears when you take an offensive action. Depending on your party and playstyle that may be worth it, but 53K is very expensive for a limited use item.

Wow, I guess I just assumed that there were stackable Ioun Stones for all the abilities. Well that is REALLY crappy, thanks for pointing that out Cao Phen. I was using a non-stakable +2 cha ioun stone as it is. In addition, that rod looks like it might be something I would pick up. I'll reevaluate, I'm sort of annoyed I bought the Phylactery under an incorrect pretense.
I bought some reach/extend rods as I have been meaning to get those for a while. The ghostvision gloves while cool, aren't really my speed especially since I am just eating that ACP on the fullplate (which makes attack rolls a pita)
Boots of the earth would be a good investment if I ever buy a endurance ioun stone and take die hard + fast healer, but until I do that I don't plan on picking them up. I don't mind just using charges, as opposed to standing around all day letting my buffs tick down.
That breastplate is pretty awesome as well, I'll look into picking that up. Not sure I'll be able to though, but we'll see.
Thanks for all the awesome advice guys.

I was working under the assumption that it wasn't a thing. It is certainly pretty iffy. Either way, I don't have UMD ranks (and I do have wasting as a curse) nor do I have a ring slot I want to use since I will be picking up a ring of evasion pretty soon. So a relatively moot point as far as this character goes. As far as I am aware the devs never made a ruling, and that was what I was trying to get out of Andrew up thread. He didn't indicate as such either.

Eh, either way UMD is definitely worth it as a skill. Other than perception, maybe a few knowledges, what is more worth putting points in?
Just saying if I have points to spare I always put some in UMD, class skill or not.
And I have maxxed my UMD skill with classes that don't get it as a class skill, as well as Skill Focus and that one that gives you +2 to that and another skill (well I think I had a trait that gave it to me as a class skill actually).
Okay, not trying to be a derailer just that it is an awesomely useful skill when you can afford to buy some wands.
Himokl |
Nah, I agree. Thread is for the most part over anyway, unless anyone else wants to suggest some things!
If I wasn't taking a -4 to it from Wasting I might have put some ranks in. On this character I have perception maxed, spellcraft maxed, 3 ranks in Acrobatics (fighting defensively/total defense) and the rest in knowledge religion (mainly because it was a requirement for quick channel but Knowledge is always useful)
I don't get to do UMD anywhere near as much as I would like due to low skill points and/or intelligence. This is mitigated somewhat by the fact I usually play something with at least a little casting. The only character I have a lot of it in is my Alchemist who I think has +29. (lol)
