Most people have their lives flash before their eyes before they die. I died once, well a piece of me anyway. My old life ended, and a new one, with a new purpose began. Let’s go back to that fateful day.

It was a warm summer day, my new bride Cheyenne and I had just moved into my childhood home. It was a wedding gift from my parents. The house was small and on the outskirts of Magnimar, the city of Monuments. We inherited a mill and a field. This land was previously worked by my father. We had an honest future in front of us. I knew we would never be rich, but it was a lifestyle we could easily provide for one another. I was twenty-five and her twenty-three, and we felt like we had the world at our fingertips. It is funny how your life can turn in the course of a couple of hours.

The beginning of the end started later that evening, when Cheynne had run into a man beaten on the path in front of our place. She offered him a warm meal and a place to sleep for the evening. At the time the man seemed eternally grateful. We went to bed, wishing the stranger good night, anticipating the workload we would have on our hands in the morning.

I awoke in the early hours of the morning as I was being dragged out of my place, and down to the cellar just outside of my home. I was bound and beaten by the man we had opened our home to. During the night he had called his friends and decided to rob us. After being beaten for what seemed like hours, they decided to deliver one final blow my way by plunging a dagger straight into my wife's heart. As she fell to the ground, the men quickly left the cellar, and set it a blaze. As I saw the spirit draining from my wife’s eyes, I could only mutter the words “I Love you” before she passed on. The weird thing is, it felt as though her soul did not pass on to heaven. It felt lost, like there was unfinished business. It was at that moment I was able to knock over a scythe and free my hands and leg. I grabbed my wife’s lifeless body and fled the cellar. Upon reaching the outside, I see the mill and my childhood home engulfed in flames. It was too late to put anything out; I could just sit there as I watched everything I had known and loved got destroyed.

A couple of days passed, and the funeral had just ended. I didn't know what to do with myself. I simply knew that I could no longer stay here. I took off from the funeral knowing that when I returned the Varisia, I would not be the helpless man I was now. I set out for the Silver Crusade, there I learned how to defend myself, and avenge the ones I loved, and now lost. However, my most important goal is to find out what happened to my wife’s soul. With the goddess Svarozic guiding my path, my next stop is the pathfinder society. Here I am 27, the son of a miller, but a new man. God help the men that destroyed my world. Should you have evil intent and a cross a man in a black cloak, wielding a scythe, I would run.
