I'm looking at running a communal read-through of the Faerie Mound of Dragonkind, a solo adventure published by TSR in the early 80s. For those of you unfamiliar with the book, it's very similar to a Fighting Fantasy or Lone Wolf gamebook - it's a solo experience, where you're exploring the fey realm in search of...well, I'm getting ahead of myself.

"But Misroi!", you're asking yourself, in boldface type. "How can the forums play this game meant for a single player?" Simple, rhetorical person who didn't actually ask anything - through the recent invention of democracy! I'll describe the situation up until there's a decision point, present the options, and then anyone can vote for what action they'd like to see happen. Highest vote total wins!

If people are interested, then let me know below!

The Exchange

A few questions:

Is the character pregenerated or do we need to help with character creation? I'm a fair hand with that.

How are you handling character death - it's going to happen - there are lots of amusing ways to get yourself killed solo.

I've played through the entire Lone Wolf series online on project aon read a number of let's play of fighting fantasy novels like rebel planet, night of the necromancer(personal favourite) .

Both of the characters are pregenerated. (Spoilers: There are two characters, and that's the first decision point - which character are we playing?)

As for character death - yes, there are plenty of ways to die, some fair, some completely unfair. I plan on giving us three life gems - if our character happens to die, through violence or misadventure, then one of them shatters, and the death is avoided. After that...our quest ends there.

The Exchange

May need more then 3 if any indication of how the let's plays of fighting fantasy go around. I think it's common to die at least 5x for fighting fantasy books.

I think the chaos master fight was urm done 226 times. That fight is so wtf. Really can't bring the sommerswerd with you for those books.

I'm ready to get started. I don't mind if it's just us. Though don't count on me on good decision making since I dumped wis =)

I am intrigued. Feels a lot like internet forum "Quests" of which I am an avid fan. Count me in on it, Promise not to try and get us killed!

The Exchange

Don't get too worked up about getting yourself killed - for Fighting Fantasy books - it happens all the time. Playing through a book without getting yourself killed once is very uncommon.

Lone wolf books - not so bad - I think the Lets play I saw managed to get killed 15 times through the entire series, though some of them was multiple times. That's total of 20 books.

And the new order grand master series, they chalked up 12 instances of getting killed, over 8 books.

I don't expect I'll be much better..

Most of Lone Wolf was pretty fair, though there were some nasty exceptions. The boss of Book 5 comes to mind, and yeah, the Chaos Master in Book 11. Those are all rough as heck.

I will probably start this tomorrow or Friday. It's also my intention for people to drop in and out at will, so if this gains momentum, then we might actually build a player base as we go!
